Dear Reader
Thank you for reading the first chapter of the book called, Hot Under Cover.
Hot Undercover was originally written as an Interactive Story Game. I am in the process of adapting it into a novel form. The original version contains a great deal of dialogue to fit the platform for which it was intended.Though you can enjoy the story in its interactive format too as currently published.(eg when Aaron speaks, the format will be as this: Aaron ~ "Devan, I think we are damn lost.")Full adaptation will be dependent on the popularity of the old Interactive Story.
Let me know what you think, of Hot UndercoverHappy reading, Tatum Whispers*************************
Something extraordinary is about to happen to me today. Everything in my life has leadup to this moment.
I am not a man for small things; love to me is a small thing; I do not embrace it, nor will I go and look for it. Love is one of those things that I don't desire. What I do desire is having it all; in my line of business, having it all is demanded; the bigger you live, the badder you are. And bad is what it is all about. In my world, if you not bad, you will get stomped on. You need to be the ultimate of them all.
When my name rolls off someone's tongue, there should be fear. It's a crazy messed up world; falling in love is getting weak. The man next to you patiently waits for you to fall, then they become who you were. It's a constant battle to be the best. I have worked far too hard for far too long to sit here at the top. I am not now or ever going to give up this life. I live and breathe danger. Adrenaline constantly runs through my veins. I do not want to be just another ordinary person.
Today we are taking our bad far, far out of the city. We go where the business is, but only if the money is good.
"Devan, I think we are damn lost."
"That's not what my GPS says."
"I think your G whatever thing is not working."
Then Mason decides to break his silence as he turns to speak to Devan. "You should have let me drive; we would be there by now."
"In a body bag, yes."
"At least I will get us there."
"You still sour about that chick last night."
"Don't you worry, the next one you pick up will be the one I take."
I cringe in my seat as I hear them talking about their accomplishments of last night. "You two sound sick. Who shares their damn girls anyway."
"You just sour you not getting any," Devan says as he now turns his attention to me.
"Just shut up and get us here. The last thing I want is to be damn stuck out here."
"I see a diner up here; we can ask for directions."
"That is about the only damn sense I have heard come out your mouth."
"Man, you need to get laid. Can you stop bickering and come inside? We might as well have a beer or two."
"What did I say about getting stuck out here."
"It's only for a half-hour."
"What is the worst that can happen."
"Half hour, that is all."
We stop in front of this diner, now that is a word I never knew will come out my mouth. It looks like a damn dinky toy. I do not want to be seen dead in here. When we walk in, the entire place goes quiet. Fantastic, a bunch of buff tattooed men walks in a place that is clearly filled with good old decent folk. After a couple of stares and that we don't want any trouble look, they all go back minding their business.
There seems to be a fight between the waitresses with whom is going to serve us; most of them seem to be pretty scared of us; I doubt we are the type of men they have wet dreams about. It seems the quiet one gets the short end as she walks on over.
"Hey, guys. I am summer, and I will be serving you."
"Did your friends over there throw you in the deep end?"
"I guess you can say so."
"Well, tell them they just missed out on a big tip."
"You are not seriously giving me that."
"Go shove it in their faces."
"Well, what can I get you guys then."
"Three beer, please, Summer."
"That is pretty easy to remember; I will bring you guys your drinks."
"The name is Aaron. And those two idiots are Matson and Devin."
"Well, it is nice to meet you guys."
She turns around and leaves; I cannot help but stare at her ass; she is petite and tight. She is pretty, not the plastered women we hang around with. A good girl, she seems shy and very innocent. I even feel bad having these thoughts about her. I am finding her strangely very attractive; I would love to have a girl like her; I am sure she is a far better than the city girls.
"I know that look," Devan says as he spots me looking at her.
"What look?"
"That I am gonna eat her up."
"And he has a damn frustrated," Matson adds as he has a stupid smirk on his face.
"Both of you just shut up. I think she is pretty."
"Pretty?" Devan laughs at me. "Did you just hear yourself? Since when do you think girls are pretty?"
"Then what should I call her? She looks too innocent to call hot."
"She is hot. If you don't want her, then I will take her," Mason says as he claims her for himself.
"I will break your hands off, and we are not going to be here that long anyway."
I see her walk back with our drinks and slap the two idiots to keep quiet. We sound like a bunch of horny schoolboys.
"Here you go."
"Thanks, Summer."
"So, you guys staying around here?"
"No, we are just passing through, or should I say got lost thanks to Devan. His thing said we are on the right road."
"Those things do not work around here, so you are probably lost."
"Told you your damn dumbass."
"So you staying long?"
"We are hitting the road after this beer."
"I am sorry to give you bad news, but I don't think you are going anywhere for a while."
"Why is that Summer? Are you going to tie us to the tables?"
"No, there is a storm on its way. They usually last for hours, and with you guys being lost, I won't recommend going out there."

Summer has just told us that there is a storm coming in and that we are set to be stuck in it for rather a long time. To say that I am not pissed off at Devan is an understatement."Nice going, Devan. What did you say again? What is the worst that can happen?""Mat, phone Bruce and tell him we are going to be late.""I don't think your phone is gonna work out here.""What does work out here?""Not much; that is why everyone comes and sits in here or the bar."And, of course, this is the first thing that has caught Devan's attention in the past five minutes. "Where is the bar?""Down the road, but you won't make it in time.""Seems like today is Aaron's lucky day." Matson smiles at me with that damn stupid smirk on his face."Fuck off, Matson.""Well, I will check on you in a b
It is two days since my encounter in the diner. I can't stop thinking about her. I keep checking my phone to see if she has called. She is consuming me. I guess I am fucked. Not only does this girl have my head in a spin, but I seem to have become the daily amusement for these two idiots. So as early as this morning is, Devan feels it is good to start."Are you still thinking of Summer?""Yes, and your problem is?""You look like a lovesick puppy.""Your ass is a lovesick puppy.""At least my ass is not in love.""I am not in love.""Oh, you so are.""You don't even know what love looks like.""I am looking at it now. You are so screwed.""I know."Then Devan comes up with the best idea for the day, or so he thinks."Let's take a drive out there again.”"Do you know how to get lost there again?"
After threatening to cut off their toes, the manager promises to get me the name by this time tomorrow. But he goes silent for a week. There are no further calls from Summer either. And just as I am about to give up, Devan comes to me. "The guy phoned with the name.""Let's go.""I have never seen you so damn excited.""Just shut up; you're driving.""You sure you want to do that?" Devan asks"You will get us lost.""Just get me there; I have to see her.""Then what? She comes back with me.""And if she does not want to?""She will."With what seems to be the longest drive of my life, we are finally back at the dinky toy diner. I am out the door even before the car comes to a dead stop."Hi, guys," one of the waitresses greets us as we walk in. "It is nice to see you again.""Likewise. Where is Summer?"
I have my baby with me; she is fast asleep in my arms. She is perfect; I have never known a woman that holds natural beauty from both outside and within. She is also very vulnerable and innocent, though she could have easily been taken advantage of by those two men. She believes that this world is just as pure as where she came from where it can be hard and very ugly here. How do I protect her when I myself am a bad man.I slip my arm out from underneath her and pull the covers back over her shoulders. I slip a pair of shorts on and make my way down to the kitchen. I find Devan and Matson already having their morning coffee."Well, look who decided to wake up," Devan says as he greets me."Have you seen the damn time," Matson asks."Why did you not wake me up."Devan looks at me as a cocky smile appears on his face, "And have my face smashed in, and after all that moaning last night, we thought you'd be tired. For a virgin, she does scream a lot, o
What a shit damn job, I never in my life had to do that damn crap. But it is done, and I can get home to my baby and our asses to get her things from her father. When we get home, she and Matson seem to be having their own damn fashion show."What is going on here?""Hello, baby.""He is just showing me what to wear every day.""That is nice, baby.""Baby.""Yes, baby. Wait did you just call me baby?""Yes, Mat says you like it."I turn to Matson that can barely contain his laughter. "Matson?""I am expanding her vocabulary. Tell him what else you learned."I turn to Summer, not expecting what she will be saying next. "Baby, you are hot.""Damn, that sounds hot. Can't you teach her something useful?"But I see that Summer has a burning question on her mind. "Baby?""Yes, baby?""Can Mat stay with me every day?""Yes, he can, baby."Matson looks at me in horror
A half hour later, we on the road to her father's house; it is way past the bar, even further past three farm-style houses, and past something that looks like a damn cemetery. This is a scary shit town, which has a damn cemetery in the middle of nowhere. We finally turn off on a dirt road that is smack bang in the middle of another nowhere too."This looks like the perfect place to hide a body."Then Devan corrects me. "Try three bodies."We get to a big ranch where two men are standing and waiting for us. I don't think you can call them men; they are centerfolds for that mean heavyweight magazines. I am hoping it is not, but it probably is her father and cousin. She jumps out of the car and runs over and hugs the one man."Guys, we are fucked.""Her dad looks cool man." Devan remarks with a nervous tone in his voice"And her cousin is actually good looking," Matson joins him."Then go say hello big mouths.""Guys," Summer
What does a man that is not a boy that is maybe too much of a man do? He waits. He waits for her dad to either come to kill him or let him take his daughter home. There is no way to tell how this one is going to go.“Baby, I think dad likes you.”“Do you think?”“Yes, cause he has not chased you off the property with his gun yet.”“Thanks, baby, you really know how to make a man feel good.”“Oh,” Devan says as he interrupts us.”You should let her go and show you those horses."“What the fuck are you two idiots on about?”“I showed them the horses,” Summer explains. “You must really come to look at them too.”“Let's go see these horses then.”These two idiots have smiles so big that they can rip their ears apart. Either they have done something stupid, or they ab
Well, here I am sitting and staring Summer’s father in the face, and he is asking me the very thing I wish to keep a secret. What do I do?Now by the size of the arsenal in his barn, I can safely say that he is into some serious shit too.The question is, who is going to play kiss and tell?“Sir.”“Call me Joseph.”“Joseph, Matson is a tracer, the world's dumbest one if I might say, your daughter did a better job than he did.”“You don't look like the type of guy that does any finding, and I am even too damn scared to ask.”“I am not in the type of business you will find in a phone book. You need to know someone that knows someone that knows me.”“Goddammit. What shit are you into, boy?”“Enfor
Summer is gone.I am torturing myself with so many what if's. What if she has left me? What if someone took her? What if she has gone back to Sammy? What if she has gone after my mom? What if. What if. What if.
So it has come to this, the end, the end of the game, the end of my life. They say that at the end of a game there has to be a winner and a loser. And that every story has to come to an end. Is this my end? Is my game up? Has my life come to an end? But then there is that cliché saying that with every end there is a new beginning. Whichever way you look at it, whether you live or eventually die things will always come to an end.Summer ~”AARON …AARON ARE YOU OKAY? ...BABY WAKE UP…AARON.”&nb
Fate is what takes you down that road you ever so often avoid to take. Take for instance landing up down a deserted road at a diner. At the time I had no idea that it was where I was supposed to be with who I am meant to be, doing what I should be doing...falling in love.I wish I could have blamed gravity but the truth was I fell in love. I fell deeper and deeper until I reached the deepest point. In the middle of all my chaos, there she was. You can call it destiny or you can call it fate, the point is you will fall in love with the most unexpected person at the most unexpected time.
Sometimes the smallest turn in the wrong direction ends up being the biggest turn of your life.If you asked me a month ago where I would be today, this would have been my last possible answer. The road of life will take you down an unexpected place but in the end it is exactly the place you should be.
Summer ~”GUYS!!! GET YOUR FUCKING ASSES TO THE FRONTDOOR!!! NOW!!!”We grab our guns off the kitchen counter and head to the front door. In less than thirty-seconds we are standing weapons ready behind Summer.Who ever said that things don't fall out of the sky surely spoke a load of shit, because this surely did. We are completely dumb struck, not one of us can utter a word.
Today my life will change. I am about to give up everything for two woman that will matter the most in my life. The one I will protect with my own life and the other, well I won't rest until I find her. If you ask me tomorrow to choose again, then I will definitely choose the same.Lovers on the run that is what I would like to call us now. I can't care if we are on the run as long as I am on the run with her. We might have been apart for a week but hell I love this woman still. No matter how much I say I love her, I will always love her more than that.
There comes a point in a man's life when he realizes that he is making bad choices, especially when it comes to matters if the heart. Take for instance Caitlin, a beautiful girl, laying completely naked in my arms. Was it a bad choice, she is not a bad girl, rash decision, most definitely it was. Even though I could not keep my hands to myself, I could not get myself to have sex with her. I have been officially been ruined for love.I slide out from underneath her arms and slip on a pair of sweats. I softly close the door as I make my way down to the kitchen. I make myself a cup of coffee and go stand outside in the cold crisp morning, I need to clear my head.
I am finding myself at a place I do not want to be, I am at a crossroads with a broken heart. Do I turn right and put what has happened behind me, turn everyone away and start a new life? Or do I turn left, hope that this will somehow work out and that she will take me back? Or, I can also go forward, learn from my broken heart and embrace who and what is next for me to come? Whichever way I go, which ever choice I make, it will define who I will become once again. We have a group of beautiful women sitting at our table but I cannot help but notice her standing at the bar. Do I get up and to talk to her or do I keep my ass firmly glued onto this chair? That thi
I am woken up by a pounding on my door, almost just as hard as the pounding in my head. Please do remind me why I drank so much again, she is as hot as hell and sleeping in the other room.Aaron ~”Someone better be dying out there.”Devan ~”Just get your ass downstairs and s
