"Sir."
He only said this, in his dominating and deep voice.
"Huh?" She said with a tensed expression, and he made a disgusting face after all this, and said again.
"Call. Me. Sir."
She nodded hesitantly and began to say, "O-Okay. Sir.. It's nothing like what you are thinking right now, really. It was my friend who-"
"I don't have any time to waste on you. Remember what I said to you just now." He said ruthlessly and walked away from there. Not exactly revealing why he came behind her in the first place. She was looking at him leaving with the prayer in her heart he won't misunderstand her for anything.
She made her way back to her seat without having anything for lunch, thinking about several things that wouldn't make her hungry enough. She was tense as she finally got a job but where she never thought about getting in her whole life. That she didn't know how she'll survive.
Soon in her work, she was texting Jenny,
'Are you crazy? Why were you giving me absurd ideas earlier? I would never let myself fall that low to break anyone's heart, in any circumstances now.'
She texted her and continued her work, but when she took a look around every corner to at least see him and his mood, her tries were becoming useless. Because, she just wants to say what probably won't change anything in his heart but wants to take a chance if it would replace his bit of feeling to something else.
Few minutes later she got a text back,
'Sorry. Don't take me seriously, okay? I know this will not suit you in this situation.'
'Is this the only reason?' She replied.
'Fine. Forget it.'
'He was there. That's why I didn't say anything. Now how will I apologize? Half the day has already passed..'
Just when she sent this text, someone came to her seat with files in their hand. "Hey, Sir ordered to give you these files and to inform you have to work on them today. And that you can't leave from here before you finish it."
"But, soon I will be leaving-"
"We had to finish the given work before leaving, and you can take your time around your leaving hour." He placed them on her desk and walked away. She began to look at them and thought sadly,
'Shaydon? What more do you want me to do so that you will understand me? And my life would be free from your thoughts..'
What she didn't know, when she was thinking this, was that these thoughts didn't come to leave anytime soon. 'Or, ever.'
It was evening and everyone was leaving, half the office was emptying. Mark, as usual, walks casually to Shaydon’s office before leaving because this habit of years won't change since he is his friend. Whatever he thinks. But he knows what he has to do every time he goes there, to take a look at her seat.
He stooped his hand on the door handle and began to look around with no expressions on his face. He saw she was still there, and immediately left the handle and began to walk towards her without another thought.
He walked to her, took a chair next to her and brought it near her, and sat beside her. Selena looked her side, "Oh, hey, Sir-"
"Mark." He said, giving his natural smile.
"But now we actually work in a place where you are my senior, even if it's not the college. Then why should I?"
"Fine. Then say this when only I will be around. That's okay?"
"Okay." She said, passed him a faint smile and began to look at her work.
"Are you not leaving for home?" He asked, not removing his eyes from her.
"I.. was given this work at the side so I would leave after completing it." She told him while still looking at them.
"Who gave you this?" He asked, thinking about the person. "Is it Ben? Why would he-"
"Um, I don't know his name. And, he just listened to Sir’s order." She looked at him, "You should be going too. It's not something hard to do and look, there are people still present here. But you asked.."
He cleared his throat, "Because you are new. That's why- Yeah." He finished and began to give an awkward smile. She nodded, "Thanks.."
"Are you adjusting here? Is there something you are finding difficult to do here?"
'He is making my mind restless.'
"Yeah, I am. I'm still finding new things and adapting here of course. It's not even been a few days.." She said and chuckled faintly. He nodded in understanding,
"Yeah.. if you need to find something, you can ask me." He smiled and his eyes shined.
"You?"
"Yeah. After helping you that day.. I would love to help you again."
'And again and again and again and again-'
"You are a really nice person.. Um, Mark. I sure would ask you. You did help me find Anna that day even if you didn't know where she would be."
He chuckled aesthetically, "Then you should. You should-"
Shaydon got straight out of office and in between his walk he just glanced only a bit at her and said in his usual tone without stopping in his tracks. "Mark. Come with me."
Mark quickly looked back at him, and he said again while still walking straight out. "This is your time to leave, not to gossip with your workers."
"I will be leaving now, so, I hope you won't stay long." He said, getting up then he looked back at her for a second. "I'll see you tomorrow."
She nodded and he ran to him. She look at her side and thought,
'You will know someday that I was never gonna do something stupid again.'
And continued her work.
Mark came to him and began to walk beside him. "Hey, what were you saying back there? What was I doing?"
"I didn't see you talking with any worker at this hour until today even when they had finished their work. Do you know her other than the office?"
"Oh.. you missed me since I didn't come into your office but began talking to her, right?" He asked teasingly. He looked at him as they both stopped in front of the lift. Mark began to say again,
"Fine. Yeah, I happened to meet her recently before she joined. That's why I asked you about her because of her name, remember? So I was just asking how she's doing."
"Alright-"
"And she just joined, why did you give her loads of work?"
Shaydon raised his eyebrows, "Huh? When did I-"
"You know.. That work which she didn't have before but now she does." He said and began to look around himself because he didn't know if that made any sense.
"Mark. Whatever it was, but work is work. She has to do it no matter what. Leave it." He told him seriously. And soon the lift opened and they left.
Later when Selena was ready to leave, he saw his eyes looking at her soul. He was standing far enough so no one could see him, but the expression on his face could be seen perfectly with her eyes. She quickly turned back and began to take rapid breaths.
'Despite that I don't like your very being, I'd still not leave you alone for good.'
His words came back into her mind and she slowly began to look back from her side. He was not there. She didn't understand what he wanted from her after clearly showing what he felt around her. She again looked ahead, but not sure what she should do.
When she went back to her apartment, she threw herself at the couch and began to think.
'I want to try telling you that I'm sorry.. And I will.'
Next morning at the company, everyone was busy with their work. Mark was looking at her from afar as he was about to walk past those people seated around her. He smiled to himself and went that way.
From this morning the thing which Selena did repeatedly, was to look back to see him come out of his office. Thinking how she could talk to him.
So, she gathered courage, took a look at everyone, got up from her seat and turned to go into his office. She thought about taking a step ahead to start letting the series of her heart out step by step.
She stopped in front of the door, and took a deep breath before knocking. After hearing his voice, she went in. When he saw who entered, he locked both his hand’s fingers and placed them above the table while he moved his eyes along with her steps until she stopped far in front of him. He was not moving his eyes from her, and waited for her to speak.
"Can we talk?" She let this out, saying quietly.
"Sorry, but Ms Selena from where I'm seeing, we don't 'have' anything to talk about." He said, then began to say with non interested tone, "You can leave-"
"But, what if 'I' only have something to say? Does this still apply?" She asked hopefully and he stared at her for about a minute. Then, he hummed and quickly began to look somewhere else.
"I.. wanted to say.."
He began to work at his laptop and she was nervously finding words as to what to say first. Then after mixing her mind for a few seconds, she blurted out which made him stop his movement and thought what made her talk about this to him.
"Please forgive me for the past."
She stopped and looked at him for a few seconds, then began to say with a low voice and soft eyes. "I have changed, Shaydon.."
Just after hearing this, he closed his eyes for a brief moment and let out a breath- after hearing his name.
"...Sir. I don't know how to say it since you are in the place of forgiving me- let alone giving me the chance to say my words are not even near you, but now that I have you in front of me, I can't lose that chance. I don't want anything from you right now.. the only thing I wanted right now was a chance to speak. And.. Thank you for that." She stopped and continued her words after swallowing heart. "You're thinking all wrong about me. Assuming wrong things about me. I have truly changed. I know you won't.. But, believe me. I.. I have changed. You don't know how regretful I have been living since the day I went to Australia. I was alone.. I did all that, not by thinking I could gain people in my life, I was only being selfish. I- I know nothing of this sort will help me change your mind even for a second, and I also don't know why am I even saying this. But…" He was just staring at her with a straight face the whole time and she was speaking continuously without halting and without
His steps didn't stop, nor did her fast pace heartbeats as her back hit the wall and she was startled to see him stop so close in front of her. She was being another mess all over inside herself, but Shaydon wanted to teach her even once a lesson in her life which tells his side of the story as well. "Shay-" He leaned closer and was scaring her now with his intense angry gaze. "Shh.. You are not allowed to say my name.. Ever. Moreover, I will not allow myself to hear it from your mouth again." He stops for a second after making her quiet, then begins to say in a restraining tone. "You don't know but It was years ago and when you broke my heart completely, I have swore to not let myself hear it from you ever again. This is not something which came to my mind just now. You don't have any effect on me now." He completed in much of a serious tone. Then, he grabbed her arm tightly and pulled her to him, "What did you tell me? Life had paid off, right? You regretted so much in your life,
With those thoughts and another sweet and without the destination determination, she fell asleep. A day has arisen with the new hope. After wearing this hopeful smile on her face, she got ready to leave for work. It was almost an hour at the work, but she hadn't seen him coming in, nor coming out of his office. She was not sure if he is not present here or if she didn't see him today at all. After a while of her getting herself busy in work, she saw him walking straight towards his office. She didn't remove her eyes until he was gone out of sight, and Mark was standing in front of his office door. Their eyes met, and Mark passed her a reassuring smile. She got herself back to work, and soon it was evening. She was surprised to see he didn't give her more work like usual and got up to leave, but someone was in front of her again with another extra work on her bench. She drops herself again on the chair and gets herself ready to prepare those. Shaydon was in his office, resting his ba
"Today, you won't leave for home until I tell you so." For a few seconds, she kept looking at him. Then began to speak in a bit of a panic tone, "Huh? Okay. No problem. I'll stay. You're my boss, and I'm willing to do every work you'd give me. Alright." "You better do it, or you don't have any choice." He removed his sharp gaze away from her face and let go of her arm. Then, the lift door began to open, he stepped back, and got out of the lift without glancing at her. After he left, she placed her hand on her chest and took a few deep breaths. 'Why does he always want to keep me here until late? But, I'm going to do it anyway. To whom I have to go if I'll not listen to him?' The rest of the day passed in their usual work, and more than soon it was evening. Selena was trying to pass the time until everyone leaves and continued her work which she was given everyday, to the other side of her work, but she would gladly scratch her head to the end of the day to complete this. Shaydon,
"What?" She whispered confusingly with a breathless voice to herself. "Is this you?" She called out to him, frightening to think that he would do this. "Hello!-" "Yes, it's me! I'm here to ask you, how does it 'feel', huh?" "What do you mean? I don't understand, please open the door-" "Listen to me. Let me ask you, what are you trying to do? Do you really think you understand me from any situation? What were those talks and things you were trying to do? You think you would know everything by looking at my face, really?" He ended in an amusing mock, standing in front of the door, hands in his pockets and anger on his face. "No, I didn't mean it to offend you. But, I really don't get-" "Shut up. How does it feel to get trapped in there, huh?" He began to hiss, "Did you know, my heart was trapped in an exact same place like what this looks like. A place where it was the end of the difficulty to breathe, nothing came to sight which showed any sign which could save me, no path, no des
Holding her tears, she found herself alone at midnight. Somehow she got to her apartment, and dropped herself on her couch in the pitch silence at her apartment. It was one regular morning like everyday but a feeling of loneliness for Selena as she again woke up in this. Silently made a cup of coffee for herself and sat there for a while to think about what to do next. She has lived in this apartment since she came to this city to make her life what she never thought would look like this, after her father passed away. Her stepmother wanted a reason to send her away for studies, and when she got it she did it. When Selena came back after her graduation her father left her alone, after him both of them did not live with each other. For some days, she is jobless and working hard to get into another company to make a living. She worked at her recent job for two years, and got fired from there because of her mistake, and was humiliated badly. Right now her age is twenty six, and she needed another job to continue living in this apartment, and for her bills as before this everything was going good somehow. So she went on two interviews in the pas
Shaydon is currently living his life according to his work, does not usually want to go back home and normally stays late and leaves the office after everyone. It seems weird to his workers, but no one ever affects him. He was soon going to be twenty eight, he was cold, workaholic and lost his belief in staying entirely happy. It seemed that he just works and since no one would be at his home other than his father, he doesn't usually go home for anyone. It was morning and Shaydon was having breakfast with his father. His father was very famous for a lot of years because his company’s over reaching success. Soon he gave all rights to his son, and since then Shaydon was handling all his business and being the only boss in his company. Shaydon’s personality was not always like it was now, but after his mother’s death he was completely changed. And now, he keeps himself busy with chasing his own success now, not his father’s. He had everything. Money, house, a big company, every essen

Earlier, Mark was sitting in his office with the continues smile on his face, remembering the yesterday when he met his mother, ** "Mom?" He called her when she was busy with work. She hummed, "Yes? "A girl named Selena was coming to you earlier when I dropped by in the afternoon. So, did she get the job?" She looked up at him suspiciously, "How do you know her, Mark?" "I met her here when she was coming. So? Did she?" He looked curious to her and she said, "But, I'm not sure, but I guess she would.. No, actually she did get it." "Really?!-" He stopped and said again, "I mean, really? That's good for her." He cleared his throat and sat back." "Now tell me, 'why' are you asking about her?" She asked again, "I told you, because I met her today, Mom. Nothing else." He tried to shrug it off, then she loosened her shoulders and said, "Son, but, you should bring something other than nothing, okay? What about that girl who I introduced to you for marriage?" He rolled his eyes, "Mom…"
At the interview with the help of Anna, it went well. She was happy, after her encounter with Shaydon, now she didn't have to show her face to him and ruined everything which had already been ruined for years. So she was grateful she could save everything even with this job. She went back to her apartment and thought now everything would go well as Shaydon told her off clearly she didn't have a chance, but who knows if he actually didn't want it? But Selena would never think about that after yesterday. Soon Jenny came into her apartment with a grin, "Look, I bought your favorite sandwiches and cold coffee. You must be hungry, right?" She came and sat on the couch while putting it on the coffee table in the front. Selena smiled as she felt grateful for having her as a friend. Shs sat beside her and hugged her from the side, "Thank you so much.. There was literally nothing at home, and I was really craving this sandwich, Jenny. You're the best!" "Hey, now eat it and tell me about yo
