4. His Lie

At the interview with the help of Anna, it went well. She was happy, after her encounter with Shaydon, now she didn't have to show her face to him and ruined everything which had already been ruined for years. So she was grateful she could save everything even with this job.

She went back to her apartment and thought now everything would go well as Shaydon told her off clearly she didn't have a chance, but who knows if he actually didn't want it? But Selena would never think about that after yesterday.

Soon Jenny came into her apartment with a grin, "Look, I bought your favorite sandwiches and cold coffee. You must be hungry, right?" She came and sat on the couch while putting it on the coffee table in the front. 

Selena smiled as she felt grateful for having her as a friend. Shs sat beside her and hugged her from the side, "Thank you so much.. There was literally nothing at home, and I was really craving this sandwich, Jenny. You're the best!"

"Hey, now eat it and tell me about your interview at the college. What do you think?"

She pulled away and told her with a smile. "I can join as soon as possible. And, then, I told them I could teach.. But I'm not sure if I can really do that? What do you say?" Selena then told her worriedly. "Oh, don't worry. I'm sure you can do anything." Jenny gave her an assuring smile.

"Not anything.." Selena trailed off and turned at the side, when her phone began to rang. She picked it up,

"Ms Selena Smith?"

"Yes, who's this?"

"We are calling you to inform you that you have been hired in our company. You can join from tomorrow and start work. Have a good day."

"Uh, thanks a lot.. Bye." She was left unable to react after hearing 'Shaydon Shearer' hired 'her'.

'How is that possible? He would never give me the job.. Also when he remembers everything?'

She looked at Jenny with an unreadable expression. "What? Who was on the call?" Jenny asked. "I got the job. I mean, in his company. I was wrong that he would never- but, did he?"

Jenny’s face lit up in happiness and she grabbed her both arms, "What? You really wanted to work in a company again but you had to apply for the job of professor in the college and I was so sad for you, but now you got it- oh, but yeah, you said he will never give you that. What happened to it?"

"Oh no, Jenny." She got up from her seat and began to roam around in front of Jenny. "How will I face him again? Before, I didn't know he was the CEO and I went. Otherwise I wouldn't have, Jenny. So I mean, now. I don't know how I got so lucky to finally have a job back yet so unlucky to face 'him' as my boss, who I thought no one years ago.."

Jenny also got up and held her arm to stop her walking, "The good thing is, that you got the job. Just go there then see what happens. Okay?"

Selena nodded and sat back on the couch, saying, "Come on, eat with me. While we will think about the new morning of my life." She began to eat and Jenny also sat back with her.

Shaydon was sitting with his back leaned back on the chair, hitting his chin slowly with his fist, thinking,

'Not wanting to see her face and yet wanting her to come here so I will force her that much, that she will leave from here herself. What should I do? The mention of her makes everything come alive in me which she made dead because of her.'

Next morning, Selena got ready, prepared everything, messaged her landlord that she will meet her today for the talk of rent and left her apartment. As usual, she took the bus and on the way there she was nervous.

'I don't know how to get happy about finally getting this chance, or worried that I will see him everyday. He obviously doesn't know that I have realized everything I did in the past and hates me. But, I can't say he misunderstood either.'

She reached there, and stepped inside to start her work here and with all the questions if it is not a misunderstanding of anyone. She came inside and didn't know where to go when she walked to someone and told them about her. 

That man said walk her to the manager’s office and he will tell her, but stopped when he saw the manager coming from front himself.

"Oh, there he is." He said and pointed at Mark and Shaydon who were walking towards here. Mark walked casually with both hands in his pants pockets and Shaydon was busy with his phone with one hand in his pocket. He walked to them, and Mark stopped with his eyes at Selena.

"Mr Bamford. She’s Selena, she just joined and I was coming to you for you to tell where her place is. That's good I saw you here."

Mark didn't remove his eyes from her with a mesmerizing smile on his face, and motioned him off to go from here, "Yeah, yeah leave it to me, you go."

"Yes Sir." He walked away from there and Mark began to take a step forward to her. Shaydon noticed Mark was not walking with him as he was continuously walking forward in his phone, he stopped and looked back. "Mark?-"

He also stopped in his tracks when he saw both of them. Mark was smiling and Selena was confused. "You work 'here'?"

'God, what is this coincidence?'

Selena thought to herself and Mark began to say, "Hey, Selena? But, you was about to-"

"Yeah, I was. But-"

Selena was also stopped in between when she saw Shaydon coming from the side and toward Mark. As nervousness took over her, she couldn't speak again when he stood beside Mark and began to stare at her.

'How do they know each other? He doesn't know about her, so did she plan on getting with him?'

He was about to look at Mark, thinking how he knew her. Mark was still smiling then he finally noticed that both were looking at each other and how different their expressions are. Mark leaned over to his side and said in a low voice, "Shaydon?"

He abruptly moved his eyes from her and looked at him, "What? Why did you stop walking and-"

"Because, she is Selena." Mark told him and wished in his heart she wouldn't be her because he knew she gave him an interview and found her here. "Did you give the job to that girl? Is she that-"

"No." Shaydon immediately let it out of his mouth and shook his head, and looked straight at her with a cold expression, saying it from it as well. "I didn't. I would never. She is some other Selena-"

Her breath hitched when she heard her name and what he said beside it, not believing him lying.

"Oh my!" He sighed in relief and began to say with a grin, "I can't believe what just happened, Shaydon. I knew you would not. It's just that I met her yesterday and I didn't think this could be the case until I saw her here."

Shaydon made a fist and looked at the side, 

'Why did I lie!?'

He thought and she was left confused as she said. "I don't understand, what do you mean?" She asked Mark in confusion, and Mark suddenly locked his lips, not knowing what to explain to her.

"You come with me, I'll show you your place and avoid telling you about that other Selena- I mean it's nothing. You interviewed for the job in 'this' company? Did you also lie to me about getting the job of professor?"

He asked casually as he motioned for her to come with him and began to turn back. "Shaydon, you go alone. I'll be busy here."

Without an answer, Selena began to walk beside him, "No, I didn't lie. It just happened that way. I got a call and was told that I was hired. I was.. also surprised that my interview got…" Selena looked behind at Shaydon who was still standing there with his fist close tight.

'I don't believe I got to meet with someone you told everything about me, Shaydon. I don't know if I should keep your lie or ask you why you did it? Is it because you don't want to be in any kind of interaction with me?'

"Well.. what happened, I would not say it was not good." Mark said while smiling to himself as they walked to the lift. "What do you mean?" Selena looked at him now and asked.

They both stopped and he said, "I mean, it's a good opportunity to work here, you know. And I hope now that doesn't matter that I lied to you, now that you'll be working with me. Right?"

"Yeah, of course. Why would I think about it? I got to meet you now where you actually work and now 'I do too..'" Selena trailed off to herself in the end, and soon they got in the left.

Shaydon was leaving as he stopped and thought, 'From where does Mark know her if he doesn't know who she is?'

Mark showed her around, told her everything and about everyone. And lastly showed her the seat. "I hope we get along in the work, Selena." Mark said.

Selena passed him a smile and nodded, "Me too."

She started her work as she wondered how Shaydon didn't say anything to her. Why did he just try to tell her with his expression about his mind? She didn't know what to think about him yet she tried to find some situation where someday she could tell him about what's in 'her' mind about him. Or, if she ever could? This roams around her mind.

There were her new colleagues cooperating with her as they helped her and informed her about the things and the day began to pass like this. Evening was around as Mark also came from time to time, probably telling her about her work and she tried not to think about Shaydon as he did not seem around.

She was busy with her work when she stood up and left for the restroom after asking the girl next to her where it was. That's when she was passing the corridor, a hand reached her arm and harshly pulled her there and made her walk inside. "Ouch! What is this?-"

She stopped when she saw Shaydon made her come here while harshly pulling her there and left her arm when he pulled her a little to himself, asking her while his eyes wide in anger.

"Now tell me, why did you come here in the first place?"
