Just when she walked out of his office, Shaydon grabbed the file tightly in his hand and threw it far away with much anger.
'Huh, you need a job. I hate you. You.. don't even deserve my voice.'
He took a deep breath and prepared himself to interview another applicant coming after her. But, he began to look at the seat she was sitting on and something didn't make him lift his gaze, until someone entered from the door.
Selena went back to her apartment, back to her life which was without meeting him. Yet something changed. She called Jenny, and in the evening, both were sitting in her apartment when she said,
"Do you know? The CEO of this company?"
'No.. if she knew, then she would've told me.'
"No. Why?"
"I thought so, Jenny. But, you won't believe who he was. 'Shaydon'" Selene spoke with difficulty while remembering the time of interview.
"What? Shaydon Shearer? Who was in your university, right?" Jenny sounded shocked. Selena turned to her, "Who else? There is only one Shaydon in my life, that too I can't handle it."
"Why did such a coincidence happen?"
"Huh? Do you think it was-"
"No. Absolutely not, Selena. If you could get to work there then how would it be?"
Selena was lost in thoughts, "You're right.. But-"
"So? What did he say after he saw you?" Jenny asked with curiosity. Tense, Selena got up from the couch and began to rub her hands, "What happened?"
"You could have looked at his face, Jenny.. He was so angry, he still remembers 'everything' and doesn't want to see my face." She turned to her and continued,
"He didn't look at my face the entire time but before telling me how he was still living there. How he's living what I did to him, Jenny. How much he hates me- he's so much changed.. He.. didn't 'hate' me back then that's for sure."
Everyone was leaving, but Shaydon was still in his office and looked like he didn't plan to leave any time soon. This time Mark just entered his office directly, "Again, man? Why are you still here? Even though I knew you would be here, but yeah." He asked and took a seat. Shaydon was searching for the answer, "I.."
"Forget it, tell me about what happened when she came? What did you say when you saw her? Is she still the same as before?"
"Before…" His voice was fading away, and he leaned forward. "Like before? How can I tell it when I'm the one who doesn't want to remember it but still it comes right before my eyes everyday. Every. Single. Day."
"Okay…. But, still?" Mark asked again as he was not convinced with this answer.
He leaned back at his seat and began to say, "Yeah, she was the same as before. I don't know if it's true or just a trap, but one thing I observed was that something had changed in her. No, how can she be that calm and nice?"
"Oh, so, of course someone can change after seven 'years', Shaydon. What's wrong with it? If you want, don't forget those days, but you can't blame these years if she seems or she is just, you know, changed. You have changed a lot, look at you being so cold and successful?"
He began to say, voice angry, "Mark, it is not that I don't want to, I can't do it whatever happens. I can't forget crushing under the name of feelings. And I don't care how she became in these years, this won't change my feeling what it is 'now'-"
"Yes! That's what I was trying to say before, Shaydon. Not that you don't want to. Yes."
"Yeah.. so? How will that solve anything?" He said now with a calm tone and Mark said, "I was only saying, it was nothing behind it. She was nice to you? That's you figured?"
"Mark. I 'hate' her face. I 'hate' her voice, I hate her 'soul' and everything. Because, all that reminds me of that time, when she not only made fun of my feelings while leaving me heartbroken. She took everything away from me.. My-"
Jenny got up and walked to her, "You are 'that' sure, my dear friend?" She asked, and Selena said hesitantly. "Yes.. Why?"
"Then, why didn't you realize it when it was actually happening?"
Her question made her go silent, and she sighed quietly. "Jenny, you know, that was.. You know-"
"Leave it. What now?"
Mark cut Shaydon off and said, "I know what she did.. I know how bad, bad and worse it was. So.. you obviously won't give her this job, right?"
Shaydon didn't reply to him and began to get up and leave. "Shaydon? What is it? I know you won't and you don't want to talk about her, but at least answer me?" Mark began to ask him while he didn't look back and left the office.
Selena looked at her and said sadly, "It was clear from that moment, Jenny. And also, why would he? I shouldn't hope and try to- not Mom, please.. Let me try something else. Give me another chance."
"Fine.. But I was only doing this for you. Is there not a chance he could hire you?" Jenny asked, and Selena sat back and lowered her head. "I know what happened to him. But he doesn't. He didn't know what happened to me. So I'll think of something."
"Okay.. Um, Selena?"
"She looked up and smiled a bit, "Hm?"
"My friend teaches in a college. If you want, I can ask her and you can go try there to teach? I'm sure she can do this for me, she's nice. All would matter what the dean says." Selena’s smile grew wide, and she nodded.
Next day, Selena reached the college by herself and was searching for a friend. As she was walking to the dean’s office instead, she saw a man walking towards her direction and dressed like he was a professor in this college. As he was walking by her she asked,
"Excuse me? Are you a professor in this college?"
Mark stopped and pointed to himself, "Me?"
"Yes.." She asked again, "So, are you?"
Mark chuckled a bit to himself and was about to tell her that he isn't the professor and even opened his mouth too, but something inside him told him not to and to use this opportunity to talk to her. He closed his mouth and took a close look at her, her tense and beautiful eyes looked attractive to him.
"Yes. Yes, I am. How can I help you?" He didn't like it to lie at first, but, when she asked him, it didn't come to his mind again for a few minutes.
"Actually I came for the job to teach here, and was looking for a friend Anna who teaches here. So, do you know where I can find her?"
"I… Don't. But I know where she probably would be right now and take you there." He asked, even though he didn't know where he would take her. "Sure."
As both were walking somewhere Mark was taking her, he asked. "So, how did you figure I'm a professor? Don't I look young for it to you?"
"Yeah, I thought you are the way you were dressed and I would think that you are young for it. But then you said it yourself that you are. So.."
'Oh, I did. And I want it, what should have I done?' He thought.
"Yeah.. But I am, and I said so. I'm not surprised." He said, sounding excited. "And I could tell too that you never came here before as I never see you here until now." He asked while glancing at her. She looked at him for a second and smiled a bit,
"You're right, because you work here and didn't see me before."
"So, you're friends with Anna?" He suddenly asked and thought,
'Wow, Mark, acting like you actually work here.'
"Um, no, I'm not. She will help me to get a job here which I need the most right now. And, I would be looking forward to starting teaching." She told him and he nodded a bit. "Hmm, so you don't know her.."
"Yeah.. and sorry to disturb you, really. I could have been in contact with her before coming here but I forgot to take her number-"
"No, that's fine. Really. She should be where she's everyday.."
'Who the hell is Anna? Please, I don't even know which class she would be in.'
"Where all the teachers would be present. Yup." He suddenly said loudly and she was taken aback, then he began to walk where that room was. "You didn't tell me your name?- and yeah, I'm Mark Bamford."
"Selena Smith."
"Selena? I know some other Selena too, but nothing else about her other than the name. But, Selena Smith-" He noticed they came in front of the room and stopped. "Well.. it was nice meeting you Selena. There it is, you can go and meet her if she is here."
"Thanks a lot for this, Mr Mark Bamford-"
"Call me Mark. You are not yet working here nor I'm too told to tell you to call me this." He was constantly smiling and she said, "Okay. But I hope I will." She said and was about to walk in, but Mark decided not to leave with any lies.
"Wait a second!"
She turned back and he said, "I'm sorry I lied to you, but I don't teach here."
"What?"
"Yeah.." Then he quickly began to say, "I wanted to help you and didnt want to say I don't. I work in a company, and my Mom is dean in this college. Again sorry for lying, but it was fun. Nice to meet you."
He began to leave after saying it, leaving her unable to react to his speed and smiled after thinking if she gets a job she'll probably see him again and ask him about the fact that he told her himself about his lie.
He stopped in his way and looked back at where she was.
'I'll ask Mom if she gets a job or not. Selena.. One more Selena?'
He shrugged and began to leave.
At the interview with the help of Anna, it went well. She was happy, after her encounter with Shaydon, now she didn't have to show her face to him and ruined everything which had already been ruined for years. So she was grateful she could save everything even with this job. She went back to her apartment and thought now everything would go well as Shaydon told her off clearly she didn't have a chance, but who knows if he actually didn't want it? But Selena would never think about that after yesterday. Soon Jenny came into her apartment with a grin, "Look, I bought your favorite sandwiches and cold coffee. You must be hungry, right?" She came and sat on the couch while putting it on the coffee table in the front. Selena smiled as she felt grateful for having her as a friend. Shs sat beside her and hugged her from the side, "Thank you so much.. There was literally nothing at home, and I was really craving this sandwich, Jenny. You're the best!" "Hey, now eat it and tell me about yo
Earlier, Mark was sitting in his office with the continues smile on his face, remembering the yesterday when he met his mother, ** "Mom?" He called her when she was busy with work. She hummed, "Yes? "A girl named Selena was coming to you earlier when I dropped by in the afternoon. So, did she get the job?" She looked up at him suspiciously, "How do you know her, Mark?" "I met her here when she was coming. So? Did she?" He looked curious to her and she said, "But, I'm not sure, but I guess she would.. No, actually she did get it." "Really?!-" He stopped and said again, "I mean, really? That's good for her." He cleared his throat and sat back." "Now tell me, 'why' are you asking about her?" She asked again, "I told you, because I met her today, Mom. Nothing else." He tried to shrug it off, then she loosened her shoulders and said, "Son, but, you should bring something other than nothing, okay? What about that girl who I introduced to you for marriage?" He rolled his eyes, "Mom…"
"Sir." He only said this, in his dominating and deep voice. "Huh?" She said with a tensed expression, and he made a disgusting face after all this, and said again. "Call. Me. Sir." She nodded hesitantly and began to say, "O-Okay. Sir.. It's nothing like what you are thinking right now, really. It was my friend who-" "I don't have any time to waste on you. Remember what I said to you just now." He said ruthlessly and walked away from there. Not exactly revealing why he came behind her in the first place. She was looking at him leaving with the prayer in her heart he won't misunderstand her for anything. She made her way back to her seat without having anything for lunch, thinking about several things that wouldn't make her hungry enough. She was tense as she finally got a job but where she never thought about getting in her whole life. That she didn't know how she'll survive. Soon in her work, she was texting Jenny, 'Are you crazy? Why were you giving me absurd ideas earlier? I
"...Sir. I don't know how to say it since you are in the place of forgiving me- let alone giving me the chance to say my words are not even near you, but now that I have you in front of me, I can't lose that chance. I don't want anything from you right now.. the only thing I wanted right now was a chance to speak. And.. Thank you for that." She stopped and continued her words after swallowing heart. "You're thinking all wrong about me. Assuming wrong things about me. I have truly changed. I know you won't.. But, believe me. I.. I have changed. You don't know how regretful I have been living since the day I went to Australia. I was alone.. I did all that, not by thinking I could gain people in my life, I was only being selfish. His steps didn't stop, nor did her fast pace heartbeats as her back hit the wall and she was startled to see him stop so close in front of her. She was being another mess all over inside herself, but Shaydon wanted to teach her even once a lesson in her life which tells his side of the story as well. "Shay-" He leaned closer and was scaring her now with his intense angry gaze. "Shh.. You are not allowed to say my name.. Ever. Moreover, I will not allow myself to hear it from your mouth again." He stops for a second after making her quiet, then begins to say in a restraining tone. "You don't know but It was years ago and when you broke my heart completely, I have swore to not let myself hear it from you ever again. This is not something which came to my mind just now. You don't have any effect on me now." He completed in much of a serious tone. Then, he grabbed her arm tightly and pulled her to him, "What did you tell me? Life had paid off, right? You regretted so much in your life,
With those thoughts and another sweet and without the destination determination, she fell asleep. A day has arisen with the new hope. After wearing this hopeful smile on her face, she got ready to leave for work. It was almost an hour at the work, but she hadn't seen him coming in, nor coming out of his office. She was not sure if he is not present here or if she didn't see him today at all. After a while of her getting herself busy in work, she saw him walking straight towards his office. She got herself back to work, and soon it was evening. She was surprised to see he didn't give her more work like usual and got up to leave, but someone was in front of her again with another extra work on her bench. She drops herself again on the chair and gets herself ready to prepare those. Shaydon was in his office, resting his ba
"Today, you won't leave for home until I tell you so." For a few seconds, she kept looking at him. Then began to speak in a bit of a panic tone, "Huh? Okay. No problem. I'll stay. You're my boss, and I'm willing to do every work you'd give me. Alright." "You better do it, or you don't have any choice." He removed his sharp gaze away from her face and let go of her arm. Then, the lift door began to open, he stepped back, and got out of the lift without glancing at her. After he left, she placed her hand on her chest and took a few deep breaths. 'Why does he always want to keep me here until late? But, I'm going to do it anyway. To whom I have to go if I'll not listen to him?' The rest of the day passed in their usual work, and more than soon it was evening. Selena was trying to pass the time until everyone leaves and continued her work which she was given everyday, to the other side of her work, but she would gladly scratch her head to the end of the day to complete this. Shaydon,
"What?" She whispered confusingly with a breathless voice to herself. "Is this you?" She called out to him, frightening to think that he would do this. "Hello!-" "Yes, it's me! I'm here to ask you, how does it 'feel', huh?" "What do you mean? I don't understand, please open the door-" "Listen to me. Let me ask you, what are you trying to do? Do you really think you understand me from any situation? What were those talks and things you were trying to do? You think you would know everything by looking at my face, really?" He ended in an amusing mock, standing in front of the door, hands in his pockets and anger on his face. "No, I didn't mean it to offend you. But, I really don't get-" "Shut up. How does it feel to get trapped in there, huh?" He began to hiss, "Did you know, my heart was trapped in an exact same place like what this looks like. Holding her tears, she found herself alone at midnight. Somehow she got to her apartment, and dropped herself on her couch in the pitch silence at her apartment. She couldn't control her tears falling on her cheek when she thought his words all over again. After her one more defeat, he continues to wipe her tears while thinking,'What is happening to me? Why do I so much want him to understand when I very well know he hates me to the core? Why won't I just… stop trying and thinking about doing this. But, how would I know he won't if I don't try?'Sniffing, again trying to understand everything he does, and falling asleep after trying hard.It was a day off from work and she was having her breakfast, feeling unknowingly sad about not seeing him this morning when all he would do was just send sharp gazes into her direction wherever he would be. But she couldn't understand all properly why he locked her into the store just because he wanted to, and waited for everyone to leave so he coul
