Lia’s POV:
"Honey, we are home," Max called Alyssa while we entered the living room. Max and Alyssa live in a two-bedroom apartment in central park. I loved their home and spent time with them as much as possible. So Als made the guest bedroom as mine, and I had my spare clothes here if I had to crash on any night. I am so thankful to get such friends. Oh, God! Thinking alike for the second time today. I was so going to jinx me.
I then realized max had settled comfortably on the couch. When I decided to move to the kitchen to help, I saw Als standing at the kitchen door with both hands on her hips. Her eyes narrowed at Max.
"How many times I have to tell you to keep the keys and coat on the place, mister?" Als asked in a dry tone.
"Great. I got an OCD girlfriend." He muttered but immediately got up to pick up the keys from the coffee table and hung in the place.
"One more comment on OCD, I will keep you in your place, which is a trash can. Now Mr. Lazy Bones, you better come to the kitchen and help me."
I could not control my laughter at this exchange. When Max saw me enjoying the scene, he smirked by saying, "Wait till you get a boyfriend."
I shook my head and answered, "Not soon."
We had a fun time cooking and eating together. After dinner, we settled in the living room with our coffee. Max alone took something strong.
Our talks slowly went from general news to today's meeting. I once again disclosed my worries about the contract.
Suddenly Als screeched, "Hey, I forgot to tell you. Lucian Alastair is coming to Mandarin on Thursday."
I shook my head. "I cannot talk to him on any events, Als. I cannot bypass his bodyguards to meet him."
"There is no event planned. A suite is booked for him, and all employees are instructed not to disturb him after 8 pm. If you manage to catch before eight, you might get a chance to talk to him."
"I don't know, Als. I am not having a good feeling about this." Max voiced in a troubled note.
"Come on, Max. You know very well Lia was trying to talk to him. And if I understood, you need to get him convinced by this weekend. I think this is a good plan." Als sounded confident.
Well, till now, I was not able to get Mr. Alastair's appointment. And I knew they are finalizing the deal early next week. What was wrong in trying one more time? Significantly if it helped dad. My determination steeled once I thought about dad.
"Yes, Max. I don't see any harm in trying one more time. And this is for dad."
Max looked as if he was going to object, but after seeing my reaction, he nodded his head after
I mentioned my father.
I did not feel good about this, but I pushed my instincts back.
I later bade night to Alyssa with a tight hug and left home with Max to drop me.
*****
I woke up before my alarm went on and knew why. Today is Thursday, and I was planning to meet the great Lucian Alastair. Still, Dad and Jax did not know about this. I was very much sure, if dad knew about this, he would never approve it. And Max's details on Alastair didn't help me either. The man looked so mysterious in personal life and no details so far.
When I went down for breakfast, dad was looking at me with a frown. "Is everything alright, Baby Girl?""Yes, dad. Just zoned out on office thoughts." I smiled back at him; hopefully, he believed me.
"Oh Lia, you are stressing out much. I think you need a break. Why don't you plan for a vacation?"
"Seriously, dad. Nothing to worry about. I am alright." I replied warmly.
Before leaving, I just quoted, "Dad, I am leaving early from office today. I am meeting my friend for dinner."
"You need me to drop you, baby. You don't have your transport yet, remember?"
Crap! If dad had to come with me, then all my plans will be gone. "No, no, dad," I rejected in a hurry. Upon seeing his frown deepen, I waved my hand with a laugh. "My friends and I are meeting together, dad. Max had already offered me to drop."
I ran out before I was bombarded with further questions.
********************
I declined Max's offer to drop me at the hotel. I did not know why he was making a big fuss about this. I was trying to meet Mr. Alastair to convince him that Worth Manufacturers was an excellent choice in this contract. Of course, we had to face a tough time if I failed, but we would overcome slowly than anticipated.
I smiled inwardly at Max's offer on "Just give me a call if you need any help." Having all the pointers ready to stress my point, I checked my watch showing 7:00 pm while entering the main lobby. I reached out to reception.
"Hi, Has Mr. Lucian Alastair had reached? Can you guide me to his room, please?" I managed sweetly with a relaxed posture as if I had an earlier appointment. I mentally crossed my fingers so that the lady did not find my act.
"Good Evening, Madam. I presume your appointment at 8:00 pm. You are early."
Great. She had mistaken for Mr. Alastair's appointment. Luck was on my side today. I smiled back. "Yes, I don't want myself to be late considering the traffic."
She smiled back and gave me the Suite number. I walked towards the lift with as much grace I can, praying that no one finds my act before reaching Mr. Alastair's Suite.
**********************
Receptionist POV
The lady looked sweet. I did not know what the big fuss on this meeting was. But to do my job as instructed. I dialed the number given to us. Whoever was on the other side picked the call in the first ring.
"James," the voice snapped.
"Good evening, sir. As you have instructed, a lady had asked for Mr. Alastair. We have given the suite number. But I should say she was it early than your specified time."
"What the hell? I have clearly instructed to reveal the Suite details only at 8. This is way too early" I tensed when the voice yelled at me.
"But sir, as per your description, a lady came to check on Mr. Alastair's room. She was very confident that he is staying here and she came alone. Also, she clearly explained when I asked about her early arrival." I managed to convey my answer despite the nervousness.
"Leave it. But make sure that no one is reaching Mr. Alastair's room without my permission further today."
And the call got disconnected. So much for doing the job, I grumbled to myself.
"Who's that testing your peace of mind?" Reyna chuckled from my side.
"All about the great Lucian Alastair. I don't know what the big deal all about? So mysterious and secretive."
"Lucian as in THE LUCIAN ALASTAIR? Is he here? Oh, God. Which floor is he in? I want to get a selfie with him." I laughed at Reyna's excitement.
"He is in the Presidential Suite on floor Seventy-Nine. There is strict instruction on not to let anyone to the floor. So don't stress yourself."
Reyna murmured something as Spoilsport to me and turned towards the customer at the desk.
"May I help you, sir?"
But the person smiled as "Thank you. I got the information I need." With that, he turned his heel and walked towards the lift murmuring something on his phone.
We shrugged towards each other and went back to our work.*********************Luc's POVI got settled in the Suite by 7:00 pm. James wants to set all the necessary securities to catch the mysterious woman. I still did not accept this idea. I felt nauseous at meeting the flirt even though this was an act.
Suddenly my phone buzzed, and it was James.
"Yes, James," I asked.
"Change in plans. The lady is already heading towards your room. I am not sure if our plan got leaked."
What the heck in this? "Did you see her?" I asked, stunned due to this change of situation.
"No. I am on the way to the Suite. But be prepared. Bye." With this, he disconnected the call.
My anger raised again to see things going out of my control. Let her come...
Lia’s POV I tried and failed not to tap my foot impatiently as I was not alone in the lift. The old couple looked back at me and muttered. I could not catch it but heard words like 'Young People' and 'No Patience.' God! It was taking forever to reach the floor. Finally, after what seemed to be like hours, I entered the floor. There was no difficulty in finding the Suite as it was the only room on the entire floor. I took a deep breath and pressed the calling button before I chicken out. And I did not expect the person when the door opened. Whoa! If this is Lucian Alastair, then the film and magazines have not done any justice at all. I saw a fine specimen of almost 6 feet. His hair was black and sticking up attractively, and so his dark eyes. God! Girls would die to get such eyelashes. And did I miss out on the perfect jawline and the lips? The black Khaki and white butto
Lia’s POVI tensed, hearing the doorbell. And immediately felt a hand over mine to calm me down. I turned to see Alyssa looking at me with concern-filled eyes. I felt Max moving to check the door, and the smell of pizza made me realize that the food had arrived.I could not help recalling the evening and a fresh set of tears started flowing down my cheeks. Alyssa embraced me and whispered at me to calm down. But the words gave a reverse effect. I shuddered at the thoughts. What if he had not got a call? I knew his demeanor changed after the phone call. What if he had not attended the phone call? What if he had not cooled down? And so many what-ifs haunted me.I was not able to recall what happened once he opened the door. I saw some flash, and Alastair was blocking me from those lights. I also heard
Luc’s POV A tap on my shoulder made me look at the source. James nod that we have reached the destination. "I will wait for you here." James made a move to settle in an upholstery near the window comfortably. "Oh no, buddy. The invite is for both of us." I smirked back at him, and I let out a chuckle when James suddenly looked as if he had swallowed a lemon. "But why should I be invited for tea with your Mom?" "Since when they have treated you an outsider?" I raised an eyebrow at him. James smiled softly, expressing his love towards my family. But now, my mom had not invited me to a lovely family union. So the invite for today's morning tea was mainly due to today's news on me. I got a big round of advice from Hal. He stated that the damage control would be challenging
Lia's POV I entered a vast lobby. Despite my nervousness, I could not help but admire the infrastructure. Unfortunately, I did not remember how long I stood admiring the area when I felt a tap on my shoulder. "May I help you, ma'am? You had not responded when I called you,"
Lia's POV I entered the lift and let out the breath I was holding subconsciously. I knew it was a big mistake to let out such a statement. But who did he think himself off? That arrogant, self-centered, egoistic, handsome, eye-catching... What? Get a grip, Lia. Please don't say that you fell for him. You were not one of his lapdogs.
Lia’s POV I gaze at the figure in front of me. Is that me? Wearing cream suit with simple pearl choker and bracelet. It is not a dress I will choose for a love knot, but others will not doubt it on the intention of marriage. The diamond ring glitters on my finger, which is admired by our parents, friends, and family. Speaking of friends and family, where are Alyssa and Mitch? As if they get their cue, they enter the room. This room is in Lucian’s parents’ villa where our marriage is about to happen next hour. The room belongs to Lucian, but I am occupying it for the past two days. Thankfully he went on a business trip and has returned only this morning. “Are you ready, Lia?” Alyssa looks at me from top to toe. “Are you sure, Lia?” Mitch asks in a worrisome face. She still does not thi
Lia's POV Frustrated.. Angered.. Isolated.. Bored.. These are my current feelings. If not for Maria and Thomas, the couple who takes care of the villa, I am sure that I would have been lost in a vast villa and Island. I love beaches. I surely do. But after four full days of spending time on the beach, I had enough beach time for the near future. Once we had reached the villa, Luc introduced me to Thomas and Maria. Apart from two other housekeepers who come three times a day, Maria takes care of the cooking and cleaning. Thomas takes care of the garden and acts as a chauffeur. After the introduction, Lucian retired himself to his study and was busy with his work till now. Unfortunately, I have not brought my laptop with me to spend on my work. Apart from me working in my dad's concern,
Lia's POV Four Days! It's been four days since we are back at Lucian's home. And three days since I moved here. I scarcely set my foot out between packing, moving, and unpacking things. Tomorrow I will be joining Luc's office as his Associate. I will join in the name of Adelia Wentworth; in fact, I haven't changed my name to Adelia Alastair. Somehow the name Adelia Alastair doesn't ring a bell as good as Adelia Wentworth. As usual, I zone out of my thoughts and late for my night out with my friends. I am meeting Als and Mitch for dinner tonight. I rarely see Lucian in the four days. Once he dropped me at home, he just left to office. At least thoughtful to leave James to pack my things from my house. God, I am on the verge of crying, thinking about how I packed from my home. Even though my dad and mom braced a smile, the unshed tears
Lia’s POV I laugh seeing Luc’s discomfort on the way the females are falling on him. It is again the annual ball for the foster children. I could not believe it is a year since the last ball. Time is flying like anything. After the disastrous incident, Diaz, her mom, and Mitchel were arrested by cops. Poor Diaz killed herself in prison. Bella could not bear the shock of her daughter’s death and became mentally depressed. She is currently in the psychiatric division of state prison. Mitchel is still behind bars and has six more years to serve. Even though Hal was also behind the conspiracy, having Mary and kids in mind, Luc did not press charges against him. But Luc cut ties with him, and Hal is no more in the media industry. Luc is still in the media industry but more on production. He is taking up only selected roles once in a while. James is his manager, associate, and bodyguard. As for the Alastair Corporation, Luc is the Chairman. I am the Vice-Chairman having the complete aut
Lia’s POV I wake from my deep slumber and turn to see Luc lying head down. He is asleep, sitting next to me, holding my hand. I try to release my hands, keyword try. Once I move my hand, he grips even tighter and jerks up. He looks at me first as if to believe that I am awake. Then he smiles slowly. “Hi,” I say, not knowing what to say. He chuckles at me. “Hi yourself.” “How are you feeling? Any pain?” He asks me, looking at my mid-section. I shake my head at his question. “No. Just thirsty.” He gets up to bring a glass of water with a straw. I sip the water to cherish the chill feeling s
Luc’s POV I sit stoically in the hospital chair. The surgeons are operating for Lia right now. I could see James talking to the cops. Dad has gone to complete the formalities in the reception. Mom is sitting next to me, holding my hand. I am observing everything but detached from everything at the same. My eyes often drift to the doors of the operation theatre. I could not forget the way Lia fell with the gushing of blood. My heart will be scarred with that forever. I have failed to save Lia and failed my promises to her. Mom never says a word but sits next to me. That is all I want now. She understands that I cannot talk or listen to anything but need someone for me. How have I got blessed with such understanding parents? Why have I thought that they will blame me for Jake’s death? I
Luc’s POV Dad listens to everything and shocks me, saying that he already has suspected something like that. “How?” I ask him. “Lucian, I am your dad. But, just because I am not with you in your daily life doesn’t mean that I don’t know my children. Did you think that I never noticed the change in your behavior? Or the way you started treating Diaz and Bella differently? And, I am talking on behalf of your mom too.” I am speechless. How can I think so less of my family? A streak of guilt passes in along with my other emotions. Let me deal with that later. Right now, Lia is my priority. Dad says that he will be getting all the help he can, starting from the cops in that locality. I close the call and realize that we were almost near.
Lia’s POV I feel heavy over my head and try to shift in my sleep. I am stiff like I am tied up. I pry open my eyes, wondering what is happening. My eyes slowly get used to the light and find myself in an unfamiliar room. I try to rub my eyes but cannot lift my hands. I look down to see my hands tied up in the armrest. My neck is stiff and pain at the side. Possibly my head is at the wrong angle. But Where am I? Slowly memories flood back. Someone hit Patrick on the head, and I got sprayed. Panic surges through me, and I try my best to keep calm to assess the situation. Who did this? Why do they want me? I hear footsteps nearing and look up to see Diaz walking inside. “You?” I ask in surprise.
Lia’s POV “Thank you, Scarlet. Keep us updated on the progress.” I close the call with Scarlet. The operations have started in complete form in Japan. But there are some glitches beyond our anticipation. Some of the senior members on the board are slightly unresponsive as they are afraid of their jobs. But nothing too complicated to handle. Scarlet is doing a great job there. Making a mental note to inform Luc, I bid bye to James before leaving for lunch. I am meeting Mitch and Als today and haven’t spoken to them since my birthday. Patrick is driving me to the restaurant. Luc is still obsessive about my security. *** I wait in our regular booth for Als and Mitch. I am browsing the menu, deciding on the order by the time.
Lia’s POV We board the jet to Japan. Tomorrow is the final signing of the merger—one closer step to Luc’s dreams. My heart elates at this thought. James and Patrick are accompanying us along with Scarlet, Regina, Mitch, and, unfortunately, Cindy. I need to endure her stare for another 12 hours. I let an involuntary sigh at this thought. Luc raises an eyebrow at my reaction. I blush, shaking my head. We have settled inside the seats. There is a big living lounge and for everyone to settle down. The chairs are comfy enough for a small nap. The crew is available in the kitchen cabinet in case of any need for refreshments and food. James and Patrick are seated next to us. Luc is involved in his laptop. I start browsing the documents to do a final check.
Lia's POVIt's Christmas Eve. Luc, I, and James are here in our little hideout. Yes, the same beach house. He has excused us from the family dinner, citing the shoot. We are traveling to Japan in a couple of days and planning to visit both our parents after New Year's Eve. I know it is because he doesn't want to face Diaz soon. He is still contemplating the idea of how to avoid Diaz without the family's knowledge. He is afraid that his actions towards her will make the details of Jake's death known to everyone.I am sure that his parents and Thea will understand Luc, but he is still afraid of their reaction. I think he doesn't want to take the risk of getting rejected and so distancing himself from them. I am sad to hear this because I know Kate, Ric, and Thea are even more worried about Luc. I hope Lucian will overcome his fear soon.
Lia's POV It's Thanksgiving Eve. Lucian and I have come to the family feast along with Ric, Kate, and Thea. James has gone to visit his sister. It is pretty odd to have a family gathering without James, who has become good support like Jax. It is fun to prepare for the feast as a whole family—especially Thea, who is curious to do everything. Kate, as usual, organized an excellent lunch. Fortunately, it is only a family dinner, and hence we don't have to face Diaz. Luc has told me that he will take care of her, but I am becoming more restless after her latest stunt. We are happily chatting along with the lunch. "Thea, you are graduating next month. What is your plan? Are you ready to join the office?" Ric asks Thea.
