Aurora's POV
I never minded not having a place in the pack because I knew I was going to find my mate one day and leave—or so my mother keeps telling me when she sees me looking far away into nothingness.
I don't know why they hate me in the first place, but I never cared.
Today is my eighteenth birthday, and the Alpha and Luna took it upon themselves to celebrate it in their mansion. I stared at the whole pack as they grinned and sang the happy birthday song, while others took videos and pictures with their phones. I know most of them tolerate me because I am the Beta's daughter and have a good relationship with the Alpha's family. Also, because the Alpha's only son, Lucas, and his twin sister, Liana, are my best friends. They don't have much of a choice but to befriend me too.
Lucas and Liana told me to ignore what the rest of the pack thought of me. They just have nothing to do with their lives than make my life miserable simply because I am their best friend.
Even though it makes sense, I am not that silly to believe they hated me because I am friends with the Alpha's children. The real reason I know the best it's because I haven't changed to my wolf form yet, though it usually happens when we are sixteen. My mother keeps encouraging me to have patience, that something good is going to come out of it, but I have an inkling that the pack members dislike me for that.
Forget all that, it's my birthday and I hope I can successfully get my wolf and my mate today..
Both of my best friends Lucas and Liana haven't found their mates yet, and a part of me wanted Lucas to be my mate even though I wanted to leave this pack. I would stay for him. He understands me, is always there for me no matter what. He is the only person I want to mate in this entire pack.
"Happy birthday, Rora," the Luna came forward and kissed my cheek, then I gave her a piece of cake in her mouth.
"Thank you, Flora," I beamed at her, making her chuckle.
"I have the best present for you after the whole celebration, so don't forget to come get it before you leave, hmm?" She said, kissed my forehead, then left.
She is such a kind-hearted woman, just like her children. She is older than Alpha Caden, as the rumor has it, and she was the daughter of the Alpha of the Brown Wood pack who chose Alpha Caden as her mate when she reached thirty years without finding her mate. He also liked her then, so he accepted, albeit many years younger than she is.
The Alpha came next with his present in a cute purple box. He knows exactly what my favorite color is, and just from the sight of it, I know I was going to love what was inside. I always do each of my birthdays anyway.
"Thank you, Alpha," he kissed my cheek as he gave me the present.
"You have grown so big, Ro," he ruffled my hair like he does Liana, then continued walking away.
The Alpha is such a handsome young man in his late thirties. He got mated to Flora when he was just eighteen, and they gave birth immediately after that to twins. Since then, Flora wasn't able to give birth, and they were fine with their two children.
After that, some of my classmates from school came to give me their own presents, forcing a smile on their faces, and I did the same. The whole thing came to an abrupt halt when I swayed on my feet and my senses sharpened. Something is happening, and I don't know what that is.
"Don't touch her! She is going to change!" I heard the Alpha shout when my father started coming towards me worriedly.
My father backed away towards my mother, who looked equally worried and excited at the same time. A growl was ripped from my throat, and I rushed out of the room to the woods behind the Alpha's mansion. Tears clouded my vision, but I made it behind the trees to hide.
The feeling immediately vanished as soon as I sat down behind a tree, bringing my knees up to my che-st to ease the pain. I haven't changed, but something felt different about me too. My senses sharpened, my vision much clearer than ever, making me acutely aware of someone coming towards me.
"Hello, Aurora," a voice whispered inside my head, but I turned around to try and find out if someone was there with me. Empty.
"I am your wolf, silly. My name is Eva," the feminine voice said again inside of my head.
"Oh," I said to myself then blushing in embarrassment a second later; a laughter bubbled out of my throat in disbelief.
I have a wolf! But why wasn't I in wolf form??
"Yes, you do, and you should probably stop screaming before I turn deaf," she jested then hummed quietly, and if I am guessing correctly, she was watching her surroundings.
“Nice to meet you Eva, but why wasn’t I shifted yet?”
“I will explain this to you later, our mate is somewhere near," she said after a while, and I leaped to my feet unsteadily.
Mate? I checked behind the tree where the mansion is, and sure enough, Lucas, Liana, and the rest of the party were outside, as if waiting for me to show them my wolf form. Alpha Caden guessed wrong. I am not changing. I still appear to be in human form in front everyone.
"MATE!" Eva growled and purred at the same time in my head, making me dizzy again for a second.
The disappointment and mockery were written all over the faces of the people staring back at my human form. They thought I was going to change, but I didn't. The Alpha looked confused, then he smiled as if he knew what was happening; the Luna looked worried, just like my parents.
Lucas took a step forward, then stopped as his eyes glazed over in the dark. He closed them for a second, then he opened them with emotions that tore at my insides. I knew he was my mate; Eva's mental focus is solely on him since she uttered the word mate.
Lucas's eyes spelled so many emotions that made me cringe inwardly because it is as though I was looking at a stranger. Why does he look like he would rather be anywhere than here with me? Why wasn't he saying anything when I'm sure his wolf had told him we were mates?
He is trying to avoid me, and that is confirmed when he turned back into the house without saying anything. Everyone's attention is focused on me, so they didn't notice him slipping away. I don't know why, but my heart broke inside my che-st at that.
What just happened? I thought he was going to be happy finding out I was his mate. He has dreamt of finding his mate since he turned eighteen months ago, but now that he did, is he just going to walk away from me?
I raised the skirts of my gown and ran after him in my heels. No one tried to stop me, thinking I was just embarrassed I didn't change. No, that isn't the reason because I don't care whatsoever. I want to find Lucas. I need answers.
I caught him walking out of the house and straight into the darkened streets. I called out his name as loudly as I could, but he refused to turn, only kept walking like he couldn't stand being near me even for a second.
"Lucas stop!" I yelled then removed my heels and followed after him bare feet.
He didn't, so I ran with my short legs while he walked with those long legs. When I stood in front of him, he tried sidestepping me but I didn't give him the chance to. He cannot avoid me. Not after what we just found out.
"You are my mate, Luke. Why are you running away?" I ask through pants, confusion marrying my voice.
He looked like he wasn't going to answer, then he flexed his jaw and said, "Because, for heaven's sake, I don't want you! I don't want the burden of having you as my mate. There is someone I want as my mate, and that isn't you. You cannot be my mate. Never."
My life crumbled right there in front of me at the sheer determination in his eyes. In the eyes of the boy I grew up with. The only boy I have ever fantasized about mating but is now trying to reject me because he wanted someone. Not me. His best friend.
"You are a liability, Aurora. You haven't changed into your wolf yet and who knows, you might not change ever. I can't have a weakling as my mate when I am going to rule as the alpha in the future. I need someone stronger by my side." His direct words nearly destroyed me.
"Luke…" I trail off with a swallow because I don't know what to say to him. I really don't.
"Don't." He took a step back then added. "I, Lucas Ledger, reject you Aurora Grey as my mate a
nd future luna." Then he sidestepped me and left without a look back.
And I let him.
Aurora's POVI didn't go back to the alpha's house, instead went straight to my parents house which isn't far away from the alpha's being the beta and all. I know my parents are going to handle everything there so I showered and slid beneath the covers to sleep. I am usually not a crier so I am not crying but that doesn't mean I am not heartbroken. It hurts. My chest hurts. My eyes are stinging. Even my breasts feel tender with all the pain all over me. I tried to breathe but I started hyperventilating the next second. Slowly lowering myself to the floor, I tuck my chest to my knees and try my best to regain my breathing. I know panic attacks because I have had a lot in my life. Not being accepted in a pack you grew up in takes a toll on you even if you don't want to care. I know it first hand. And now even the one best friend I knew I had my entire life turned his back against me. He doesn't want to be my mate despite being his best friend. Maybe he never truly liked me and was
Alpha Caden's POVThe weather was chilly as we all stood there looking at the sand closing my mate's lifeless body. Like humans, we are also dressed in black for the funeral. Lucas and Liana are clutching onto one another as they cry their eyes out. She's been dead for two days already but today hits them harder than any other. I am not a crier so I only stared down at the ground. Everyone kept passing around their condolences and saying how much of a great woman she was, which is true but right then, I didn't want to listen to their sympathetic words. I really just want to spend some time in my office with a good whiskey. I did just that. I turned around and left the graveyard, my feet sure as I stepped inside my car and sped to the Alpha house where I'm sure no one will disturb me. The whole pack members will meet at the packhouse to mourn further. As soon as I got home, I showered and yanked on a sweatpant then blindly made my way to the study. I took two bottles of whiskey
Aurora's POVI don't know why I thought it was a good idea to come back to Brown Wood Pack after my father told me about Flora's death. She's been sick for a great deal of time and called her once to ask how she was. She was so happy to finally hear from me. I cut off contact with everyone for two good years, my parents included. I felt like I needed some time for myself without going through those questions they would no doubt ask. Why did I run away? Why suddenly and what is going on. I don't want to answer them. I wasn't ready. I haven't told them that Lucas was my mate and he has rejected me till date. I feel like there is no use. It is only going to ruin the relationship they all have and I don't want that. My father and the alpha are great friends and I know how my father thinks. He could cut off Lucas in his life for this. I don't want that. I'm sure Lucas hasn't told them either or they would have asked when I got in contact with them. Those years in the human world chan
Aurora's POV"Please don't do this to me." I murmur to myself after the door got locked from behind and there is no other way for me to leave. I lie there on the floor in Alpha Caden's study not knowing what to do or how to think because things just blew out before I could even think. This is all too much for my mental health. I have been trying so hard to keep back in focus but it's hard now. I left this pack for the same reason. I wanted peace of mind which this pack won't give me so I ran away. I left for my happiness only to come back and get trapped in the most absurd and unexpected way. This is really not what I was expecting when I decided to come to Brown Woods. I have a long list of clients waiting for me back in Canada to get their tattoos designed. I have so much to do back home. I haven't fed my dog too though I have given him to my neighbor to take care of him while I am away. She is going to be worried if I don't return soon. No one walked into the room for the next
Alpha Caden's POVStorming into my ensuite, I briskly passed the dimly lit corridor that led to the bathroom. The ensuite I once shared with Flora remained untouched since the day she died. For obvious reasons, I had chosen to lock it up, intending to preserve the sanctity of her space and safeguard her belongings from any unwanted intrusion. It wasn't that I feared being haunted by the memories; rather, I felt the need to close that chapter of my life, tucked away along with all the joyous moments we had shared. In the wake of Flora's recent passing, I couldn't deny the profound impact it had on me. The man I used to be seemed to have undergone a metamorphosis, an evolution spurred by the stark reality of her absence. I should have seen it coming but I didn't want to. I liked living with Flora as my mate and mother of my children. The version of me that existed before wouldn't have snapped at Aurora, let alone burden her with guilt for her actions. In the past, I would have extende
Alpha Caden's POVAurora is still on the floor thirty minutes after she's tried to wear her clothes but couldn't. I can't help but feel a pang of guilt at the thought of me doing that to her. I don't even know what is going on anymore, but I cannot stop being this person. She is my mate now, no matter what she does. She has no other option but to stay with me as her maid because I am doing all of this to save her. I'm sure she wouldn't want Lucas and Lilian looking at her with this whole thing.I don't even know how I am going to explain stuff to them if they ask me. They might not be staying here with me, but I'm sure they will know what is going on. She is going to hate that, which is why I want this to work out the way I have planned in my head. I had to work with my instincts and make her my maid so they won't know. But I can't hide this from her parents. I am going to tell them everything that is going on, knowing how her father is. Beta Knox Woods is the most complicated man I h
Aurora's POVI was startled when the door to the study got pushed open, and the scent that hit me had my core clenching in a way I hated but have no control over. My body is behaving like it doesn't belong to me since I arrived at this pack, and I need to check that before it embarrasses me further than we have already gone. Why the hell is my core tightening?Enveloping and irresistible, his scent is a captivating blend of sandalwood, subtly infused with the essence of the woods he cherishes. This pure, masculine aroma possesses the power to command attention from any discerning nose. It makes females throw away their panties straight away. But why is it that I am only getting the distinct smell now and not a few years ago when I used to come here all the time? What is so different now that I could feel his scent so much more than any other males in my life, and I have met many in the human world with different personalities? I have met my fair share of males, alright.Being a werewo
Aurora's POVDone with my shower and now enveloped in the lingering scent of Alpha Caden, I wrap a fluffy white towel I found inside one of the cabinets. It looks new, which means no one has used it. Carrying my clothes in my hands, I walk back to the study, thinking it might be empty, but stood shell-shocked when I found Alpha Caden inside. He stands there, next to his desk, a small black object in his hand that swiftly disappears into the pocket of his sweatpants as soon as he realizes I'm in the room. Slowly turning, his face remains expressionless, but his eyes move up and down my body, sending an involuntary shiver down my spine.Damn it, the intensity of that gaze sparks a myriad of emotions within me, creating a moment pregnant with unspoken tension and curiosity. I hate that he has this effect on me, and there is nothing I can do about it. Why can't it be the other way around? Why isn't he even feeling the least bit attracted to me when I feel this much attraction for him?Doe
Alpha Caden’s POV Ten Years Later. Her smile illuminated the room, a beacon of warmth that drew me in like a moth to a flame. I watched as she moved gracefully, every motion sending a surge of electricity coursing through my veins. When she stretched against me, her body arched with a sensual grace that left me breathless.I buried my face in her hair, inhaling deeply, savoring the intoxicating scent that enveloped me. Her laughter was like music to my ears, a sweet melody that echoed in the depths of my soul. "I need to send a thank-you note to the company that makes my shampoo," she teased."It's not your shampoo that smells so good," I replied, my voice husky with desire. "It's you. You're delicious." I pressed my lips against her neck, trailing soft kisses along her skin, reveling in the taste of her.Her fingers tangled in my hair, pulling me closer as our lips met in a slow, tender kiss. Each touch sent sparks flying, igniting a fire that burned hotter with each passing momen
Aurora’s POV The room was filled with the beeping of monitors and the quiet hum of medical equipment. I lay on the hospital bed, sweat trickling down my forehead, every muscle in my body straining with the effort of bringing new life into the world. Caden was beside me, his strong hand gripping mine, his presence a steady anchor amidst the storm of labor.“You’re doing amazing,” he whispered, his voice low and soothing. “I’m right here with you.”I focused on his eyes, drawing strength from the love and determination I saw there. With each contraction, I pushed with all my might, the pain intense but the goal in sight. Time seemed to blur, each moment stretching out endlessly and yet passing in a heartbeat. The doctor’s voice broke through the haze. “I can see the head. One more big push, Aurora. You can do this.”With a final, desperate effort, I bore down, feeling a rush of relief as the first baby emerged into the world. A lusty cry filled the room, and tears sprang to my eyes.
Third Person POVAfter the tension of the night eased, Lilian and Caleb found themselves tangled in each other’s arms on the bed. Caleb held her close, his warmth and steady heartbeat lulling her into a sense of safety she hadn’t felt in a long time. The bond between them was undeniable, and despite the confusion and complications, there was a deep sense of rightness in being together.Caleb whispered soothing words into her ear, his voice a balm to her frayed nerves. Slowly, Lilian's eyes grew heavy, and she drifted off to sleep, cocooned in his embrace. Caleb watched her for a while, his fingers gently tracing patterns on her back, until he too succumbed to the pull of slumber. They slept deeply, their bodies and souls finding solace in each other’s presence. As the first light of dawn filtered through the curtains, Caleb stirred. He looked down at Lilian, her features softened in sleep, and felt a surge of protectiveness and love. Carefully, he disentangled himself from her and p
Third Person POVLilian lay in her bed, staring at the ceiling as the minutes ticked by. Sleep evaded her, her mind a tumultuous sea of emotions and thoughts. Her wolf paced restlessly within her, agitated and yearning. She turned over, trying to find a comfortable position, but it was no use. The bond she felt with Caleb was like a persistent itch she couldn't scratch, a need that gnawed at her insides. With a frustrated sigh, she threw back the covers and got out of bed. The cold floorboards against her feet did nothing to soothe her restless spirit. She wrapped a shawl around her shoulders and quietly slipped out of her room, the moonlight casting soft shadows in the dimly lit corridor. Her steps were silent as she made her way through the palace halls, the silence of the night amplifying the sound of her own heartbeat. She knew where she was going. There was only one place she could go. She needed to see Caleb. To feel his presence. To understand what had happened between them.
Aurora’s POV I found Caden pacing in his study, his face a mask of anger and frustration. His twin brother and his daughter—how could things have spiraled out of control so quickly? I could feel the tension radiating from him as I approached, my heart aching for him."Caden," I called softly, but he didn't stop pacing.I moved closer, gently reaching out to touch his arm. "Caden, please. Sit down. Let's talk."He halted, looking at me with stormy eyes. "Fox, you don't understand. My own brother... with my daughter. How could he do this? How could she?"I guided him to the couch, my touch gentle but firm. "I know you're angry. But getting worked up like this won't solve anything."He resisted at first, but I coaxed him with soft touches, my fingers brushing his arm, then his cheek. I leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to his lips. Slowly, his rigid posture began to soften. He sighed heavily and allowed me to lead him to sit down.As he sat, I settled myself on his lap, facing him. "Cad
Third Person POVLilian sat on the edge of her bed, the room still reeling from the emotional storm that had just passed. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying, her body wrapped in the sheets that had witnessed the chaos. She felt hollow, her mind a swirl of confusion and heartache. The door creaked open, and Aurora stepped in quietly, her expression filled with concern. She crossed the room in a few quick strides and wrapped her arms around Lilian, holding her tightly. Lilian stiffened at first, then melted into the embrace, the dam of her emotions breaking once more.Aurora stroked her hair gently. "Lilian, I'm here. It's okay. Let it all out."Lilian clung to Aurora, her sobs coming hard and fast. "I felt it, Aurora. I felt the bond. We're truly mates, and I think I already like him. I feel like I can't live without him. But now he's madto me, and it hurts so much."Aurora held her tighter, her own eyes filling with tears at seeing her friend in such pain. "Oh, Lilian. I'm so s
Third Person POVCaden approached Lilian's bedroom with a heavy heart, ready to explain everything to his daughter. The events of the past week had been tumultuous, and he needed her to understand why he hadn’t told her about him and Aurora. But as he reached for the door, something felt off. The door was slightly ajar, and the scent of sweat and sex hung thick in the air.Pushing the door open, Caden’s eyes widened in shock at the sight before him. Lilian was in bed, naked and tangled in sheets, with a man beside her. His heart dropped when he recognized the man—it was Caleb, his twin brother. Rage ignited within him like a wildfire."You son of a bitch!" Caden roared, storming into the room.Caleb barely had time to react before Caden's fist connected with his jaw, sending him reeling back onto the bed. Lilian screamed, pulling the sheets up to cover herself as the brothers clashed violently."What the hell are you doing?" Caleb shouted, scrambling to defend himself as Caden swung
Third Person POV Caleb rises to his knees, rips open the zipper on his trousers, and fists his cock in his hand.Lilian stares at it with wide eyes, her hammering heart skipping a beat, then starting up again, beating even faster. Thick and veined, the shaft juts out proudly from his fist. The crown is fat and red, the slit on top glistening with a drop of wetness. His cock is massive, almost intimidating in size. "That look on your face is a bloody nice compliment," he growls. Then he positions himself between her spread thighs, sliding the head up and down through her pussy lips, wetting it.Lilian gasps, managing a breathy, "Condom?""Wasn't planning on having sex today," he says through gritted teeth, staring down into her wide eyes. "Still time to say no, Lilian."She's so turned on, she can barely think. "You said you were clean?""Aye. I promise.""Then fuck me, Caleb. And don't you dare hold anything back. I want everything you have to give me."His grin looks feral. With a s
Third Person POVDelirious, her eyes rolling back in her head, Lilian gasped, “What the hell is happening?” Maybe she is drunk. “Your mate is fingering your gorgeous wet cunt, that’s what,” Caleb growled, his voice dripping with lust.“Goddess! Caleb!” she cried out, her body trembling.“Aye, lass. Say my name just like that when you come,” he breathed, his accent thick and intoxicating.Rocking his hips into her so his erection was pressed right up against her hip, he kissed a path down her neck to her chest, then licked at her cleavage, dipping his tongue into the cleft between her breasts. When she groaned again, he lightly bit down on the swell of one breast.“I need to taste every inch of you,” he whispered, his voice dark and commanding. “I need to bite every perfect part of your skin. I want to fuck you and spank you and make you take my cock down your throat. I want you to tell me every filthy thing you want me to do to you, starting right fucking now.”He pulled his fingers
