Chapter 104

BRANDON

Ronan contacted me earlier today, asking me to drive Dahlia straight to his mansion. At first, I didn't understand why he said that, but when Blake showed up and explained everything to me, I understood perfectly.

I expected him to call Dahlia and update her on this new development but he didn't. I on the other hand didn't want to do it for him. I didn't want to be the one to break the news to Dahlia and watch her heart shatter. I knew she has come to love the manor. The once liveless building Ronan had decorated like a cemetery was now so full of life, the living room was nothing like before. It was vibrant and looked even more rich now. Dahlia, suddenly leaving all these behind and moving to some new place with no explanation would annoy and stress her badly. She isn't just a kid that could be moved around. Even kids are informed when they're moving.

Moments like this are when I detest Ronan. But seeing how much Dahlia loves him, I try to be supportive, find lik

“This must be a mistake…” I mumbled, my hands trembling as I stared at the test results. “You're finally pregnant,” my gynaecologist announced, smiling very broadly at me. “Congratulations Dahlia, you'll become a mother soon,” she kept smiling. I sat there, glued to the seat and speechless. “She is playing a prank on me,” I repeatedly told myself, finding it hard to believe the sudden revelation. Suddenly getting pregnant after being told I'll never be able to have a child of my own felt like a dream. “Yo…you should redo the test…Have you forgotten, I can't get pregnant,” I reminded her, stuttering and trying not to give myself high hopes. “That would mean redoing the pregnancy test for the sixth time. You're pregnant Dahlia. This is your reality!” She said louder this time, full of smiles. I shook my head in denial, but then she placed the fifth result of the pregnancy test on my palm. “See for yourself…” I glanced down at the paper, then my face slowly contoured in shock.

Chapter 2 DAHLIA “What is she doing here?” I asked, my eyes never leaving hers. “What were you doing with her?” I detached my hand from Desmond's shoulders and gazed right at him, taking a step back. “What…What are you saying?” Desmond quickly pulled his headset off his head, flinging it away. Then he quickly grabbed me, holding onto my waist. “Leave us, Sophia,” he instructed. My eyes never left Sophia's as she walked away, she sent a glare in my direction and just before she closed the door, I noticed she missed a button on her shirt. The moment the door shut, I pulled away from Desmond's hold, glaring at him. “Dahl, you're over thinking,” he said, looking at me. “I met another woman all sweaty and looking like that in your office, she even missed a button on her shirt…And you’re telling me I’m overthinking?” I couldn’t hold back the hurt, anger and disappointment. “Calm down, Dahl,” Desmond quickly pulled me into his arms and began to stroke my back like he always did ea

Chapter 3 DAHLIA Walking from the coffee shop to my car suddenly felt like an extreme sport. My heart was in turmoil. I was exhausted by everything. “Who do I believe? My husband or a woman who I’m sure badly wants to seduce him?” Never have I been this confused and drained. Today was supposed to be a big day for me, I can’t believe I’m ending it with worries and restlessness. Getting into my car, I drove back home with an unclear head, deciding to pull myself together before Desmond gets home. But then, by the time I got home, Desmond was already back. “You're finally back,” he exclaimed in excitement the moment I walked in. He was still on his work shirt, a clear indication that he just got home. He wore an apron and was making dinner. “You said you'd get something on your way home,” I pointed out, staring at him. “Oh, about that. I decided to just make you something myself. It's better than eating out,” he smiled yet again. I stood there, staring at him. All d

Chapter 4DAHLIA Throughout the entire ride to the Knights Cooperation, I kept having an internal war with myself. “Was my marriage going to fall apart?” I couldn't stop worrying. I met Desmond when he was at his lowest. I could never forget that eventful day. I was driving home from work after a late night shift, when I was suddenly flagged down by a yelling man, it was Desmond. His mum was in a critical condition and needed urgent medical care. I drove them to the hospital that day and even went as far as helping pay the medical bills, having figured out he had no money. After that day, Desmond and I became really close and in less than a month, he asked me out. I brought his family out of the slums and gave them an apartment, started a business for his father, made sure his mum got the best medical care and even put his siblings who were dropped out, back into school. Then offered Desmond a place in my company. Desmond and I got closer and closer after these and eventually go

Chapter 5 “You have just two days, Dahlia. Bring me a better proposal,” Ronan Knight solemnly declared. I just sat there, staring at him, not even a single word coming from me. I was in so much shock and confusion that I forgot I had to thank him. “You may leave,” he said, pointing at the door. I rose to my feet. “Thank you, Mr. Knight,” I managed to let out, then headed for the door. But then he called me back. “Take your proposal with you. It's of no use to me.” The instant he uttered those words, I lowered my head in shame. Never in my years of running a company have I faced an embarrassment like this, even as a rookie, something like this never happened, not even once. I retraced my step with my head bowed, picked up the files and walked out. My head was lowered as I walked from Ronan Knight's office to my car. “Dahlia!” The last voice I wanted to hear at the moment called out to me. It was Sophia. I ignored her, unlocked my car and got in, but then she stepped right i

Chapter 6“I should have sent Tony. You've lost your touch, Dahlia. How could you mess this up? You know how much this means to me. You lost a deal that could change our lives, Dahlia….fuck!” Desmond complained, taking a step away from me. My heart wrenched, the harsh reality hitting me so hard, that I almost lost my balance. I held onto the sofa, gripping it so hard, and gnashing my teeth, afraid I’d reveal my true emotions.“You know how much I was looking forward to this deal, Dahl. I sent you because I thought you’d get it, but you flopped it. The business deal was meant to change our whole life, Dahlia. How could you?” he kept complaining, walking around the house and nearly ripping his hair off.His act was so convincing that I almost found myself kneeling to apologize. But then, the fact that everything was playing out exactly the same way Sophia said it would, made me hold back. This man has changed a lot. He isn’t the man I helped up from the slums. He isn’t the man that I’v

Chapter 7 DAHLIA I drove behind Desmond from a safe distance and soon, he came to a stop in front of a hotel. I turned off my car and watched him walk into the hotel. I couldn't possibly follow him in there to avoid being discovered. So, I stayed back, never letting my eyes leave the hotel's entrance. Over 30 minutes later, he still wasn't out. I was getting hungry and was already exhausted. I haven't even brushed my teeth yet. My stomach growled, reminding me that I haven't had breakfast yet. I sighed, lowering my head on the steering wheel. “Classic that I'm finding out about all of this while pregnant,” I was nearly in tears. My pregnancy was supposed to be a thing of excitement for Desmond and I. Now, I'm not even sure. “This isn't the time to break down,” I reminded myself. Pulling myself together, I looked towards the hotel's entrance. The sight before me, made me question all I've heard and believed these few days. Outside the hotel was Desmond, walking hand in han

Chapter 8 DAHLIA “Why are they suddenly here?” Seeing them at that moment, the realization of what I've been tolerating all in the name of love for Desmond flashed on my mind. I had completely forgotten that they had a key to my home. Desmond had given it to them in the past. I never had an issue with it, because I was so focused on being a good wife and daughter in-law to them. But thinking of it now, that was so stupid of me. “Dahlia….I didn't want to come here today, but I needed some cash. Desmond didn't give me any, can you help me out?” Anita, Desmond's younger sister asked, holding my hand. Mind you, I was still standing outside the door. “I need money too, Dahlia…the allowances you send me are barely enough these days,” Frank, his brother added. “You should increase our allowances too. It's barely enough,” Gideon, Desmond's father added. “Dahlia dear…Can you take me to the hospital later, that's….” Martha was speaking, but then I cut her off, fed up and tired of being

Chapter 103DAHLIA “If you step out of this room. Then this relationship is over. I'm done trying to make it work. Go on, Ronan. Leave, turn your back on me. I don't care anymore,” I said, my voice firm.Ronan, walking away after I put on all that drama to finally get the two of us together. To finally make time for us to talk was the final straw for me. Having to go to this extent to get his attention was exhausting and worse, he just wants to walk away “Let's walk away from each other's lives. If that is what you prefer ... .Let's get facts straight, you walked into my life first, and so I'll do the walking out. You forced yourself into my life, went out of your way for me, forced me into a marriage. And now what? You're outrightly ignoring me. I'm done.”I rose from the bed, pulling his shirt over my head, leaving me in just my camisole and undies. I looked around looking for where he dropped my blazer and pants but they were nowhere in sight.I turned to Ronan who was still stan

Chapter 102DAHLIA“What?” I gazed wide-eyed at him.“I think you know exactly what I mean, Dahlia,” Brandon smiled. His smile wasn't like his usual friendly smile, it made me recoil and take steps backwards. He took a step towards me, that smile still on his face“Brandon? What are you doing? Take me back home right now!” I demanded He kept coming.“I'll scream!” I said with all seriousness.“We're in the middle of nowhere,” he countered. And that did it.I let out an ear piercing scream, one I was sure would be heard from miles away. Only then did Brandon take several steps backwards, raising his hands in surrender.“Mr. Knight is here. I know he has been avoiding you. He'll come out now if you keep screaming,” Brandon winked at me.I narrowed my eyes on him. He flashed me a smile.“I'm serious. You haven't been happy all day. I thought I could help.”“Thank you, Brandon,” I said, really grateful for his help.“But don't scare me like that again. I added a serious warning.”“Sorry

Chapter 101GAVIN“You did what?” Sophia yelled at the top of her voice, her fist clenched like she'd punch me if given the chance to.I took a step away from her. She covered the distance I just put between us.“Gavin, I thought better of you. Dahlia is your cousin for God's sake. You are supposed to be helping her recover, not making things worse!”“That's exactly what I'm doing, Sophia. Do not lecture me.” I love Sophia but during times like this, during times where we have misunderstandings. I absolutely detest being around her. “Really? Tell me how you're doing that. By trying to make her remember a conversation she has long forgotten. You gave her a freaking headache and what now? You decided to send her deranged step sister to her company. If that's your idea of helping her, then I have no idea what the hell I've been doing with you….”I turned, eyes widened and looked at her.“Really? You're going to pull our relationship into this? We've been together for over ten years, Sop

Chapter 100 DAHLIA Walking back into my office, Blake followed closely behind me. “Did you by any chance inform Roselle about you owning this place?” Blake asked. I faced him, still offended by the stupid stunt he pulled minutes ago. “First of all, Blake. I run this place. You do not get to block my path. You do not get to decide who I see and who I don't. It's an absolute disrespect to me. I am your boss’ wife and trust me, I can be stricter than Ronan,” I warned. He nodded at my words, in what I consider fake understanding. Ronan must have put him up to this. Tell me what the assistant of a large conglomerate CEO was doing at my office at 11pm, the pique of work hours. “I understand. I apologize for how I acted. Believe me, it was all on reflex,” he bowed his head. I scoffed. “You're forgiven. Go and sin no more,” I made a lame joke for no apparent reason. Clearing my throat, I spoke again. “For your question. I have no reason to tell Roselle about Helixx. I also haven't

Chapter 99 DAHLIA “What the hell are you doing?” I narrowed my eyes at Blake, rising from my seat and approaching him. Blake said no words, instead, he further moved to block my view of the door even more. “Please, go take a seat,” I gestured at my seat, infuriating me. “What do you mean by that?” I didn't even give him the chance to respond, I shoved him aside, hurrying to the door. The moment I pushed it open, what welcomed me was Brandon pulling a lady away. “Stop,” I called out to him, my voice firm and strict. This was my company after all, these two men had no right to turn away my visitor no matter who it turns out to be. Brandon halted, I could see his fist clench but it didn't bother me one bit. He overstepped today and I was going to reprimand him for that later. I walked up to them, pulling Brandon's hold off the lady's arm. I turned her around to look at me – Roselle. My eyes met that of my assistant who was still standing by the side, confusion evident in he

Chapter 98 DAHLIA Brandon drove me to a beach. It appeared to be a private beach. There was a little exortic building by the side and there wasn't anyone there except for the two of us. “A friend of mine owns this place,” he told me, leading me to stand in front of the waters. “I once heard Mr. Knight say you scream at the seaside when you're pissed off, so, I brought you here to do that. We can scream and cuss him together. What do you think, Dahlia?” He raised a brow, smiling at me. His gesture filled my heart with warmth. I was grateful and really loved him for this. Don't get me wrong, the only man I'll ever love is Ronan. He might be a jerk but he is mine and I love him. What I feel for Brandon is…different. Like the kind of love you'd feel for a relative, a brother. “Ronan's a jerkface!!!!!” I screamed at the top of my lungs and ended up coughing. Brandon stood beside me, patting my back. “That was one loud scream. I almost went deaf. Want to do it again. We'll do it tog

Chapter 97 RONAN I hurt Dahlia, I was a jerk for doing that to her. For leaving her there on that bed. It was obvious that she put in a lot of effort to set the whole thing up but I ruined it. I know how I left her there on the bed was wrong, but I had no choice. I couldn't take advantage of her current state. When I walked back into the guest room, after running into Dahlia. I shut the door, and leaned my back against it, filled with regret. I had no control over it all and I knew things might continue to go on like this. I finally exited the room when Blake came to inform me that Dahlia had left for work. Running my hand through my hair, and heading to my room to shower and get ready for work. “I have something to tell you, Mr. Knight,” Blake called for my attention before I could head in. I halted. Raising a brow and urging him to speak. “Your wife didn't have breakfast, nor did she take her medicine before leaving.” “What? Why?” I asked. Did she decide not to take them to

Chapter 96 DAHLIA When Brandon drove me to Ronan's office, I asked him for a favour before he left. It was to help me set things up for my romantic surprise. I further got Blake and Anita involved to get things done more swiftly. During my drive back home with Ronan, I was in communication with them, texting and asking if they were done. When they confirmed that everything was ready, I asked them to help me stall Ronan, so I could go up to our room first. To check if everything was properly done and get ready myself. Anita helped with my makeup. I had put in a lot of effort into this and then what? It just fell apart. Ronan left me alone in bed, angry, confused, and sexually frustrated with no explanation. I felt like I did something wrong, but just couldn't pinpoint it. Communication was the key in relationships, but it seemed Ronan didn't know that. If I had done something wrong, he should've told me instead of just walking away, instead of just leaving. It hurt, I felt rejected.
