That caught his attention. I was up off my feet and pressed against him, his lips ravaging mine. I heard three hisses in protest behind me which quickly faded out of my mind, Ash’s kiss completely intoxicating me, commanding the attention of all my senses. I felt paralyzed against him as his hunger fed on mine. I had missed him too, more than I knew.

He broke the kiss and put me slowly back on my feet. I whined; I didn’t want to stop. His hot hand rested on my cheek and the heat stung a little but I didn’t jerk away. I opened my eyes and smiled when my hazels met his brown.

“Hi.” He said his lips parting in a smile, my smile.

I bit my lower lip and looked away shyly. It was amazing how giddy and weak this man still made me!

“That’s it?” Josh signed in relief. Reluctantly I turned away from Ash to stare at him. He was on the couch, his hand on his chest fear and shock still written on his face. “For a minute there I thought we were all dead.” He chuckled nervously as he exhaled lou

“Oh no, next time you want to take off, I want to see it coming.” And he was serious. I felt a pang of guilt hit me as I stared into his sad eyes. I looked away and laid my head on his chest. I couldn’t look him in the eye anymore. I’d hurt him, and that was the last thing I wanted. If only he would understand.“So Ben,” Billy started taking a seat next to the couch Ben was on. He was clearly not happy about Maria and Ann sitting so close to him but Josh was in between Ann and Ben, which must've soothed him a bit.“Not yet,” Ash spoke before Ben, “Joe is going to want to hear this.” And in that second Joe appeared.“What’s up?” he asked Ash his eyes leveled on the hand Maria had on Ben’s head.“How did you?” Ben said amazed again.“Ben has a story to tell us, which will interest you very much.” Ash answered.Ann stood up to make space for Joe and sat on Billy’s waiting laps, which made him very happy.Ben sat up pulling Maria’s hand gently off his head with a grateful smile. “First,

“I caught Baku’s scent when I started searching for Lee’s. By then, Ben was gone and so was his scent until tonight when he stepped out of the car.” He chuckled, “You were clever to stand behind her.”“That was a chance I took, your reputation doesn’t do you justice.”“Is that a good or bad thing?” Maria asked.“Let’s just say if I’d gotten accurate references, I wouldn’t be here,” Ben laughed, “But you are also not as cold and heartless as they describe you.”“Of course he’s not. He can be sweet when he wants to be.” I was proud of Ash and I was glad people- and by people I mean wolves- thought twice before messing with us. If only Baku had the same mentality.“I think it’s time we went to bed,” Maria proposed standing up. “The twins are going to sleep in mine and Joe’s room. Ann and Billy you already know where you’re room is. Ben and Josh, you two will share the one next to us, don’t worry it has two single beds. Lee, your room is downstairs past the stair way down the corridor.”“

The image of me on my bed popped into my head. ‘Ann, don’t let them cut me open,’ I watched myself struggled to stay awake as I spoke and then I was out. At first, I thought I was asleep until I saw my body sag like I had been deflated. I saw Ash move over me. He pulled my shirt up and then he ran his sharp claw on my lower abdomen. He was cutting me open with his nails. ‘Stop that Ash!’ Ann yelled.‘What are you doing to her?’ I saw Maria run into the room. She stopped when she saw me terror written all over her face. ‘Is she dead?’ she cried.‘What!’ Ann exclaimed before she knelt next to my head. She placed her hand on my neck, ‘She’s so cold... why is she so cold?’‘Because her heart isn’t beating!’ Joe half yelled. He disappeared for a second then reappeared with another bag of blood. He moved quickly around me, putting the new IV in my neck. ‘Ash what’s taking you so long?’ He put his hand on my chest and began pumping.‘They won’t they let me open her up!’ He yelled cursing. ‘

I walked to the kitchen, feeling happy and complete again. I was together with my family again, but I’d prefer to be in our own home. Yes every wolf out there knew where we lived but I always thought we had home field advantage. No one knew those forests better than Ash, Joe and Billy. They had proved it time and time again, surviving every assault and depleting Baku’s army. And as beautiful as this house was, it was too small for nine people and it didn’t have a panic room and the forest wasn’t as big as the one back home. Hunting was going to be a challenge for the guys. “Should we be checking you for bruises?” Ann teased me. AJ sat on her lap entirely covered in his breakfast. “I’ll get the ice,” Maria added. Unlike AJ, Meri was spotless as she sat quietly on Maria’s laps. I kissed her perfectly brushed head of hair before I moved to her brother. “Very funny! Nothing happened.” I said picking him up, “Ann what are you doing to him?” I pulled off his bib an

“I’m fine,” I spoke sliding up the fridge slowly until I straightened out and as if on cue a sharp pain hit my lower back. I groaned hitting the fridge with my fists. “Please, give me a break!” I whispered through clamped teeth.Meri’s cry grew louder and AJ’s more urgent.“Why are they crying so much?” Maria asked walking around the kitchen as she rocked Meri.“Lee, I know you are in pain but we could really use your help right now,” Ann was getting desperate.“Give them to me,” I said taking a deep breath as the pain faded away. I took a step forward keeping my arms astride testing my rickety body. I was eighteen years old and my body felt ninety.“What if you get another pain?” Maria walked to me.“You want them to keep crying?” I asked and they responded with silence, “I didn’t think so.” Hesitantly, Maria placed Meri i

Ash blinked a few times, more in the present like he’d just woken up from a trace. “How do you feel?” He asked stepping closer to me.“No pain just a small ache.” I responded with a grateful smile.“You remember our talk about you being a bad lair?”I rolled my eyes. “Okay, it’s a throbbing big ache.”“Is she going to be alright?” Ben asked his face full of worry.“She’ll be fine,” Ash answered still smiling. I wasn’t sure exactly what was up with him. Precedence had taught me the smallest attention from a male who wasn’t in his pack was usually met with hostility. “She just needs to lie down.”“I’ll walk you.” Joe offered. And by walk, he meant lifting me to my room. He placed me gently on the bed, shifting the pillows around to make me comfortable. “Don’t worry,” he began with a smile, &ldquo

  • Hiding From My Mate   Chapter 85

“I thought I’d find you dead and Baku and Sabrina would have finally killed me. And then when I couldn’t feel them or hear them cry anymore I knew for sure I’d just lost another family. At that moment I didn’t want revenge, I just wanted to die.”I looked up at him and saw a tear stray down his cheek. I’d hurt him, worse than I possibly though I could. He chuckled, wiping the tear away. “Only to get home and find out you took my children and ran away from me,” the pitch of his voice was higher, anger replacing the sad dazed look he had in his eyes.“I’m so sorry Ash. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I was only doing what was best for the twins!” I cried, very close to tears. He snorted, “Best for the twins.”I sat up, determined to get my point across, “We were a distraction and you didn’t need that if you were to finally catch Baku and Sabrina.”

I spent that entire day in my room, and when night came, my sisters took my children away anticipating Ash’s arrival but he didn’t come. So I spent that night alone, and the next night and the next night too. I sat at the top of the steps in the early morning cold, staring out at the forest hoping to get a glimpse of him. I was worried, not for his safety but that he’d left me again and this time he wouldn’t come back. I have always known my relationship with Ash would never be easy, but I never banked on this. Once I found out all that he was hiding from me, everything seemed to get easier, despite the constant threat to my life. We were inseparable and so deeply in love. But when I found out I was pregnant, it all got complicated. Those three months without him were hell and when he got back and the month before I left they were awkward, loving, threatening, and then loving again. For those seven and a half months I’ve spent loving him, it’s been a wild emotional roller coaster ri

“Felt...” the words died on her lips when a harsh burn scorched down her back. The tattoo there burnt fiercely like a fire razing down and entire forest. She wanted to scream but the only sound that parted her lips was a struggled cry. It hurt, worse than it did the first time she felt it. She felt Samson’s arms tighten around her, holding her stiffened body upright. When it was finally over, she fell into his embrace, her body still buzzing with the painful sensation.“How...?” she choked out.Samson carried her to the couch and sat down, cradling her against his chest. “Merilee is alive.”Merilee? She wanted to ask which one but it was obvious. The only time she felt her magick part from her with such excruciating pain was the night Martha came into her powers. If she was not wrong, Merilee was a few months shy of nineteen... wasn’t this happening late? She shook her head to clear her hazy mi

Lena patted the young boy’s head and gave him a reassuring smile, “You’ll be fine.” He nodded and smiled back, then turned his face into his mother’s chest. A few minutes later he was fast asleep. “Asante,” his mother said, gently holding his broken arm steady on his side. Lena smiled and nodded. Watching the boy turn to his mother for comfort seared a pain through her heart as if a hot blade had been driven through her chest. She missed Martha and Merilee, her two beautiful daughters. But it had been years since they were gone. Merilee died in a car crush as a teenager. She was rebellious, envious and jaded by the fact she was not born first. Lena knew if they could switch places, Martha would happily give her the burden. Lena sighed, Burden? The duties of being born the first daughter from a twentieth-tenth generation faerie had never felt like a burden to her. Granted it felt like a duty

Then everything in the room changed. I felt sick to my stomach. I moved back and put a hand over my mouth. I was aware of everyone, even my twins felt different but more like Ben. I looked at them. For a moment their eyes looked different but I couldn’t be sure. I felt too sick to be sure of anything in that moment. Loud hisses filled the room and then I was standing far away, Ash’s arms around me. “Lee, what’s wrong?” That was Maria’s voice. I felt a hand on my cheek and I knew that was her too. It was human. “I don’t know.” I whispered. “She’ll be fine once this is over.” Ben called out. I looked at him. His eyes had changed. I turned to Joe, his eyes were gold and his grip on Maria was tight. She was tucked into him, her eyes shifting between Ann and me. I leaned my head back against Ash’s chest and bit my teeth together as the back of my neck burned. “Just take a deep breathe,” Ash whispered in my ear. I did as instructed, and with each breath the pain subsided to being be

Three days passed and the house was like a minefield. Maria wouldn’t speak to anyone else but Ben and me. She also never left Ann’s side. She moved all her things in Ann’s room and Ben and I would go downstairs to get her something to eat.Billy felt uneasy staying with Ann. One the guilt of not being able to defend her was eating at him and two Maria made him feel very unwelcomed. But she didn’t care much about justice, or better yet vengeance. She was waiting for Ann to wake up. We all were. The three of us would guess how she’d look like, the color of her fur. But most importantly, how long it would take to subdue her craving for human blood and flesh.Of course we wanted to see the change. No one was looking forward to the pain that would come with it. But mostly, we were waiting for the first thing she’d do once she woke up. Hopefully go for Sabrina’s neck.Sabrina knew it too and it made her very uneasy. She

He pulled away and looked at me, holding my head back so that I looked into his pleading eyes. “I love you, only you. You know that so please don’t doubt my love for you or the twins.”I knew that, but Sabrina was standing in the living room disputing how much he truly loved me.I went to pull away but Ash pulled me back, trapping me in a long desperate kiss. And for the first time, I felt his heart beat in sync with mine. I felt his soul touch mine in a connection that was more than physical intimacy. Every single thing of him intertwined with every single thing of me. We were one and the same. And yet...“How much of an influence does my blood have on you?” I whispered breathlessly on his lips.“Like an energy drink would have on you. And yet it feels like I’ve just kissed the true you for the first time. You feel more a part of me than you ever did before. I don’t think I’ve wanted you

  • Hiding From My Mate   Chapter 110

“Aww!” I cried out at the sizzling pain in the back of my neck. It felt like burning larva as it slowly crawled down my neck to the mid of my back. I stayed very still until the pain faded away. What the hell was that?I blinked my eyes open and looked around. I was in my room. Alive, I think.I rose up slowly into a sitting position. When I didn’t topple over I stood up on my feet on the warm floor. I rocked for a second as the room tilted. Once I felt steady enough I walked to the bathroom and pulled open the folding mirror. There was a large tattoo on the back of my neck. How the hell did that get there? Before I could explore further, Ben’s urgent voice filled the room. “Lee, Lee!”“I’m here,” I announced walking out of the bathroom.I saw his face relax and then crease as his eyes filled with tears. He rushed to me, hugging me tight against him.I cradled him, “Hey, I&rs

Five more werewolves shuffled into the room as Baku and Seth made their quick exit.I pulled out of his grip, “Not yet. Hold them off as long as you can.” I ran to Ash and sat next to him. I was close to sobbing when I saw his battered body. He had shrunk to my size.“Lee what are you doing!” Joe demanded.I turned to him, “What I have to.”He made to come near me but Ben stood in his way, “the fight is over there!” He bellowed.“Get out of my way!”“Joe, please,” I begged.“Joe I need you!” Billy yelled. There were five more of Baku’s men in the room. They stood in a circle around Billy and stalked towards him, tightening the circle with each step.“One minute Lee, not a second more!” Joe ordered rushing away.“Ben...”“One and a half... I know.” He answered without looking at me, wo

It took a few more dodging before Ben put me down, a solemn look in his face, “He’s in here.”I walked in, a quiver in each step I took. It wasn’t the hostage room I expected. It was beautiful and could have easily been mistaken for a living room if there was furniture in it. There was only one royal-like chair against the wall sitting on what looked like a very expensive rug. It was probably where Baku sat as he watched his men torture Ash. I felt the rage inside me boil up as I rushed to that chair. All I wanted to do was rip it to shreds!“Lee!” Ben called out to me, his hands on my arms. He turned me slowly, “there he is.”I felt my legs give under me when I saw him. That chained, withered, bloody body on the ground could not be my Ash. He just couldn’t!Ben held me tight against him, “He’s not dead but I can’t let you go to him. We’ll have to wait for Billy and Joe.”

I pulled off my coat and sat on it. Five more minutes on the cold floor and I wouldn’t be able to feel my ass again. The chains jingled when Ben tagged on them, “maybe this wasn’t a good idea after all.”He was on the other side of the cold dark steel room. Just like me, he’d been chained to the wall but he had six chains on him; one around his neck, one around his waist and the rest on his hands and legs. I only had one, around my wrist. It made sense, how could a little human break a chain used to weigh down anchors!“Can you tell if Ash is here?”He nodded, “I caught his scent when we boarded. He should have been here by now.”I felt relief flow through me, “Why?”He smiled, “Because you are here. Your scent should lead him right to us.”“Why.... do think he isn’t okay?” I stammered under a whisper.“He could be weak and cha
