He opened the doors, and I could see Richard and Josh, both being angry and curious at the same time.

“What was that?” Josh murmured to me as they passed, but I didn’t answer.

“May I ask?” Richard asked in a tone that made my blood freeze. He was really angry now.

“You should thank Moira, because she just gave our treaty a new perspective,” Alpha Duncan said ever so calmly.

“And that is?” Richard growled at him.

“I will let you have your way with the lands and we will sign the peace between our packs,” he said in an off-handed manner as he sat down.

“Why?”

“Because she is coming with me,” he said, his voice deepening as he looked at me. We never quite discussed it, but I did promise him I would be his, so it only made sense. For a moment, my heart was heavy at the thought of leaving, but I pushed the feeling away.

“No fucking way!” Richard roared, and as I turned to look at him, I could see that he was at his limits. “Just who do you think you are to request one of my pack members? How dare you…”

“Her mate,” Alpha Duncan cut in, and I saw Richard freeze.

“What?” he muttered.

“You asked who I think I am. This is who I am. Her mate,” he answered calmly. “She is mine, and she is coming with me.”

“Is it true, Moira?” Josh asked, because Richard was dumbfounded.

“Yes,” I breathed, and Richard turned to me. I could see horror in his eyes, then he simply grabbed my arm and dragged me out of the room. I could hear Duncan growl and ready to attack, but I looked him in the eye and signaled him to stop.

Richard dragged me to his office and slammed the door behind us so strongly that it almost fell from its frame. He pulled me close to him, holding my face in his palms.

“Baby, tell me it is not true,” he said, his gentleness actually surprising me. “This jerk can’t be your mate! You can’t leave!”

“It’s true. He is.” I caressed his hand on my face.

“Baby,” he breathed, and pulled me into a hug. I hugged him back and swallowed the sour taste in my mouth.

“It was a surprise for me too, and you know I would never want to leave, but we both know that I have to go with him. It would only make me miserable if I didn’t,” I said, gently patting his back.

“Fuck,” he groaned and let me go.

“Yeah, I know. But look at the bright side.” I smiled at him, but he just frowned. “I will be there on the other side and I can help make this treaty work.”

“But I lose you.”

“You have Jenny now. She is your mate, and she is all you need. I just kept her place warm till you found her,” I said with a sad smile, holding his hand.

“You know it is not true. I really loved you. I still love you. Not being my mate doesn’t mean you are not precious to me,” he caressed my face softly.

“I know. And you will always be dear to me. But I have to go.”

“If anything goes wrong, come home. You will always be welcome in my pack.”

“Thank you,” I murmured as tears clouded my eyes.

“If he ever hurts you…”

“I don’t think he would. Come on, I may be happy with him,” I gently punched his arm.

“I hope so. I really hope so, baby,” he whispered, gently kissing my forehead.

We went back, and the rest of the evening went smoothly. They both agreed on the conditions and sealed the treaty with their blood. I watched as my two most precious men shook hands. One was my life so far, and the other would be my life from now on.

I had half an hour to pack my things, so I put my bag on my bed, threw most of my clothes in it, quickly emptied my bathroom, and put my favorite book on top of it. I would ask Duncan to let me get the rest of my stuff later. It was not much, but it was mine. I stood at the door, looking back at my room, which was mine for the last ten years or so. It hurt to leave everything, but it was time to move on. I took a deep breath and closed the door behind me.

“Are you really leaving?” Jenny asked, as I turned around.

“Yes” I nodded. I couldn’t see my Luna right now, just a frightened little girl. “My mate came for me,” I smiled. We had a little odd relationship, as I was like an older sister to her, and I grew quite fond of her too, but the shadow of my relationship with Richard always hung between us.

She came to me and hugged me so strongly it surprised me. “Thank you for everything. I will be good to Richard, I promise,” she whispered.

“Just be happy, okay? You guys can make it.” I hugged her back.

“You too. Be happy,” she pulled away.

I nodded and went to the entrance, where a lot of pack members were waiting for me. Everyone knew I was leaving, and it was touching to see so many wanted to say goodbye. Some of them hugged me, and all wished me the best. I didn’t even notice when my tears started falling, but I could hardly see when I got to Josh and Richard. I hugged them both, then took a big breath and looked at all the faces for one last time, before looking into Richard’s eyes.

“Alpha, I found my mate, and I am willing to leave the pack.”

“Moira Conners, I sever your bonds with the Blue Moon pack. You are free to leave,” he said, and I immediately felt the pain in my chest. It was said that it is like losing a limb to lose your pack. I didn’t know much about losing limbs, but the pain in my chest was almost unbearable.

I clenched my teeth and went to the Range Rover with my head held high. Caleb took my bag, and Duncan opened the door for me.

Our gazes met, and the pain numbed a little. I couldn’t help but wonder, what was he thinking right now? What would he think of me after watching all of this? He closed the door and went around to sit next to me.

I looked up at the big mansion that was my home since I could remember, as Noah started the car. I looked at the people at the entrance, my family, and a pair of hot new tears fell down my face as we drove away.

When even the lights of the house faded in the distance, Duncan reached out and held my hand. He had big, strong hands that were so warm against my ice-cold fingers. I clenched my fingers between his and turned to look him in the eye. He was still unreadable. His face was calm, but looking from up-close I could see so many emotions in his blue eyes that it was impossible to tell them apart.

“Thank you,” he said as he caressed my cheek with his free hand. I didn’t answer, just laid my head on his shoulder and stared out the window.

As soon as we reached the border, I saw something from the corner of my eye. I leaned closer to the window and saw wolves running in the forest. One big black one caught up to the car, and I immediately knew they were Duncan’s men.

“You weren’t really leaning on good faith alone tonight, were you?” I asked when the wolves disappeared.

“Why should I? It was just enough good faith that I left them at the borders,” he answered, playing with my fingers. “Noah told me it was stupid and careless, but the sour look on your Alpha’s face made it all worth it.”

“You like to annoy people, don’t you?” I asked, and I could feel Noah watching me in the mirror. Did I go too far? Was he afraid? Was he agreeing with me in secret? I looked forward to his reaction, but it actually surprised me. He laughed.

“I just like to show them who they are trying to fuck with.” Duncan smiled at me, and my heart skipped a beat at his look. “It was just a necessary precaution. I don’t really need my men to protect me. I never did,” he said, and the darkness of his eyes made me think I should probably stop here.

I looked out of the window again, this time only seeing the shadows of the forest as we turned on a mountain serpentine.

“Come here,” he called, and his voice was surprisingly warm. I let him pull me closer, and I laid my head on his shoulder again.

It was a long ride, and I just laid there and listened to his heartbeats. There was no burning need now; just his closeness made me content. I could feel my wolf curl up, enjoying our mate’s closeness. He didn’t speak either, just hugged me and caressed my arm again and again.

It was after midnight when we arrived at the Blood Moon. Their territory was to the north, reaching way up to the mountains. We passed a small town, lying hidden in a valley, and Noah turned on a winding serpentine. The packhouse was even deeper in the forest, and I suddenly remembered that none of our informants could tell where the main building exactly was. They hid it well, I thought, as I got a glimpse of lights behind the trees. I was sure it was well protected, too. Noah stopped the car in front of the old manor, and I just stared in awe. Even in the dark, it was beautiful. It may have been old, but they took good care of it. It was way smaller than our mansion, I thought, as Duncan opened the door for me and I got out. It had lovely, homey vibes, and I totally loved it. He offered me his hand, and I gladly accepted. I even gave him a little smile. “You are back,” a petite girl opened the main door, and I saw her freeze the moment she saw me, and the smile died on her face.

I still had little spasms over my body when he pulled out of me and collapsed by my side. Letting my legs go, I laid flat on my stomach. I just watched his chest rise and fall as he slowly regained his breath. He pulled himself up, and I just watched the play of his muscles as he moved. He wouldn’t let me have a good look at him, but now I could freely watch. His whole body was lean, steely muscle. I could even say he was skinny, I thought as he ran his hand through his hair and I could count his ribs as he raised his arm. Not even an ounce of fat, I remarked as I watched him go to the bathroom.I found him incredibly sexy, but I couldn’t help but wonder about his scars. As he stood, I could see that his whole back was covered with them, some even reaching his butt. They looked like whipping marks, but that didn’t make sense. Duncan left me at dawn. He told me to sleep on, and he didn’t have to say it twice. I was quite beaten. When I woke up again, the room was lit by the morning sun. I rubbed my eyes and stretched. I felt my muscles a bit sore but in a good way. I stepped to the window to admire the view. My old room used to have a nice view, but it was simply beautiful. The forest seemed to be breathing with the remains of the morning mist, and the mountains were breathtaking. I had an urge to go out and take some pictures and that was when I realized that Duncan had brought my bag with the clothes, but I hadn’t seen my small backpack which held my most personal things, such as my phone. I will have to ask him, I thought as I left the amazing view and went to the bathroom. I took a quick shower and got ready. Deciding to go for a casual look, so I just put on my favorite pair of jeans and a cozy yellow sweater. I pulled my hair into a simple ponytail and put on some mascara when I heard a light knock.

I was sure they had checked it, but I didn’t have any secrets, so I decided to let it go. “Can I call my Mum?” I asked, pulling out my phone from the bottom of my bag. “She works in town, and wasn’t there yesterday,” I explained, seeing Duncan’s surprised face. “She will freak out if she comes back for the weekend and I’m not there.” “Sure, go on,” he nodded. “Should I leave you alone?” “No, just stay. I will be quick,” I smiled at him, and went to the window, dialing her. “Hi, baby girl!” she finally answered after many rings. “Hi, Mummy!” I answered with a big smile. “How are you, my dear?” she asked in a happy voice, and I already felt bad, because I knew she would not be happy after I told her what happened. “I’m fine Mum, I just wanted to tell you something.” “What is it, sweetheart?” Mum asked, and she suddenly seemed worried. “You know… I left the pack yesterday. We spent the whole day together, and it was amazing. I had a chance to make an impression on what kind of man he was, and I liked what I saw. But still… “What kind of questions, darling?” he asked, drying his hair with a towel. “I want to know how many of the rumors are true,” I said, eyeing him. “You know, I have worked hard for them,” he said with a knowing smile. “Really?” “Really. My image is an important element of our pack’s security,” he said, sitting down at the edge of the bed, facing me. “What have you heard?” “They say that you were a rogue, and you killed an Alpha to take over his pack. Some say that you killed your own father for it.” “And it is all true,” he nodded, and I felt my heart getting heavy. He was my mate, and I was already falling for him. I so wanted him to say all those rumors were lies… “

I was at the edge of a climax when he finally pushed in. I was still too tight so it was a little painful, but as he slowly started moving, the building pleasure hushed the pain. I heard him growl before his rhythm got faster, his thrusts stronger. “Duncan” I moaned his name, and he came inside me. Things started falling apart a week later, when one morning Warren and Bran hadn’t returned. Everybody was on alert already, when Bran finally linked Duncan, reporting that they found a hideout. He said that there was a big movement, and they were probably preparing for something, but their leaders were not there. He left his group there to find out more, while he and Warren went ahead looking for the witch. Duncan decided that if they managed to find the rogue’s headquarters, he would take his best warriors and attack them before they could start attacking our borders. With that being said, the whole pack turned upside down the minute he dismissed the morning assembly. It may have seemed like total chaos, but in fact, everything was pretty well organized. All our warriors reported to the training grounds, where Noah and Gabriel organized them in small units, all ready to take off anytime. Duncan sent Caleb down to the village to make sure that everyone would be safe if something

“What’s going on here?” I heard Duncan’s cold voice, and it helped me come back to my senses. I’m staying with them,” he finally said. For a long moment, Gabriel just studied us with a dark gaze, then nodded and left. Marissa looked worried, but I sent her a reassuring smile, and she left us too.“Care to explain?” Duncan asked, his voice still calm, but by now I knew he sounded like that when on the inside he was anything but calm.“Warren decided to help with my training,” I answered, not looking away from him, as he absentmindedly rubbed his chest where I stabbed him. “But in the meantime, he showed me something interesting.”“Like what?” Dunca

Things settled down a little once more, but everyone was uneasy. It was like the silence before the storm.I sat in my usual armchair, listening to the reports, but they were the same as every morning in the past week.Duncan strengthened our border patrols on the east, from the ridge up north to the Blue Moon border on the south, not trusting their security one bit after the last incident. That meant we pretty much left the western borders unattended, but Warren and his men from the Crimson were going back and forth all the time anyway, and Duncan was pretty confident about Alpha Blackwood keeping the Silver Moon quiet and secure. But no matter how tight we kept security, patrols reported no rogue movement, or anything unusual.Bran and Warren returned empty-handed again, too. They found nothing on the first two nights, but then they found something that they believed to be a lead. After everything that happened today, all I wanted was to snuggle up in bed and sleep for maybe two days, but of course, I couldn’t do that. What I got was a little snooze with Rosie when I tucked her in, and I fell asleep with her after reading. To tell the truth, it felt salutary. The love this little angel gave me and her unborn little siblings was intangible and really warmed my heart. To Duncan’s credit, he really tried not waking me. He came to check on us, and kept really silent, but I guess I just felt him, and woke when he was about to leave.“Wait for me,” I called after him, carefully getting up, not to wake Rosie.“You don’t have to come. Just stay with her and rest a little,” he offered, stopping at the door.“I want to come. It was the longest 20 minutes of my life till I ran straight to the Blue Moon’s packhouse. With car, taking the road, it was about a 45 minutes’ ride, but going straight down the mountainside, it was about a 20-30 minutes run, depending on your speed.I was pretty sure Duncan made a new record.“They let them through, Luna. The rogues came from the Blue Moon,” Noah’s words rang in my head all along.I was sure it was all just a misunderstanding. They would never do it on purpose. I knew it. Something must have happened, but if Duncan was mad enough to go straight to see Richard like this, I wasn’t sure if he would listen. He must be seeing red right now.Oh dear Goddess, he is going to kill Richard.“They are already there,” Noah informed me. “Caleb and Derek are with him, but they won’t stop him.”“Almost there,” I answered, cursing to myself.I would have been faster if I shifted, but I didn’t want to push my luck after what the doctor said, and also, I didn’t want to face my old pa

After I spent the entire morning in the bathroom, Ducan called the doctor on me, but he found nothing. He gave me some pills I could take if needed and told me to take it easy. “Don’t look at me like that.” I looked up at Duncan’s worried face above my mug. “You heard the doc. It’s nothing serious,” I tried reassuring him, as I took two pills with Mrs. Stevenson’s magic tea. I have been drinking this thing for weeks now, but I still haven’t figured out what she put into it. Not like it mattered. It did miracles to my poor stomach, and I was eternally grateful. “Still. You should take it easy today,” he sighed, kneeling next to me. “I will, don’t worry,” I squeezed his hand. “My only appointment is with Rosie in the afternoon,” I grinned, and he managed to smile back. By then, I felt totally fine, so I went for Rosi

Why does he always know what’s on my mind? I groaned internally. I really wanted to keep him out of this, but as things were now, keeping silent might hurt him more than telling everything. “He and Jenny had an argument,” I started reluctantly. “Neither of them told anybody what it was about, but it is ruining their relationship and making things difficult for the whole pack.” “And how does it concern you?” “I think it might be my fault,” I said, resting my head on his arm and staring up at the ceiling. “What is?” “It was about pups,” I blurted out. Wows of secrecy don’t apply to your mate, right? “They argued about having pups?” he asked carefully, and I just nodded. “And how is it your fault?” “I was the one who made Richard like this,” I sighed. “You know, this whole thing would be ridiculous, if it wasn’t ruining their life. Richard wants pups, but Jenny thinks she is too young to have a baby. It is as simple as that. But they got emotional, hurt each other, and now they don
