A big brown wolf jumped in front of me with a furious snarl and I barely managed to dodge his first blow. He went for my neck, definitely with an intent to kill, but I was faster. My wolf was in full control, and she knew what we were doing.I turned and bit down on his hind leg, making him howl in pain. I wasn’t strong enough to break the bone, but made sure to damage as much muscle as I could.Another one jumped on me, making me let go, and we rolled on the ground. I managed to get on top only for a moment, then he pushed me down and was barely a breath away from my neck when he disappeared. I only got a glimpse of Duncan’s gray wolf snapping its neck when the brown wolf I wounded attacked me again.“Don’t hesitate,” Duncan growled through our link.“I didn’t,” growled back, but I didn’t have time to argue. I jumped on the brown wolf, and after a bit of struggle, I managed to bite down on his throat. I tightened my hold, and finished him off.I got a few scratches, but all in all, I
Sunday morning found us in Duncan’s office. I was sitting curled up in an armchair at the far corner of his office, cuddling my coffee.“Blood Moon is now my pack too,” I told Duncan this morning when he tried to leave me behind. “I want to know what’s going on, and help if I can.”He stood silent for a while, studying my face, then nodded. “Fine. Be in my office in 10 minutes,” he said and left me.So I dressed up really quickly, grabbed a coffee from the kitchen, and went to his office. I decided that I should not interfere, so I sat in this armchair, and was studying the men from here.Noah stood next to Duncan’s desk, still like a statue, while Gabriel and Marissa sat on the couch by the side. In front of the desk sat three wolves, the patrols from yesterday. Duncan made them tell everything that happened, everything they saw, in hopes that it would give us more information on the rogue horde and their leader.“We heard someone sneaking around, and Bran went to check,” Jason, who
“I guess it is time for me to share another secret with you,” he said, coming back to me.“I would appreciate it,” I answered silently, trying really hard to hold myself, and even more so, my wolf back. He sat down next to me and reached for my hand, but I pulled away.“Her name is Rosie,” he started with a sigh. “She is 5 years old, and sometimes she has bad dreams.”“And she is your daughter,” I only managed to whisper, my heart being so heavy.“She is, but it’s not the way you think,” he reached for me, trying to comfort me, but I moved away again. “Only a few people who were already with me five years ago know about it. I never told anybody else, and I don’t want her to ever find out. I will tell you everything, but you have to promise me to keep my secret.”“Duncan…” I called, but didn’t really know what to say. I was so confused and hurt, I didn’t even have it in me to be mad at him.“Promise me, please. I don’t want Rosie to know about it,” he looked at me with serious eyes. Hi
We decided going into the library room to have some privacy and Duncan asked Marissa to bring Rosie after breakfast. To tell the truth, I was very anxious. Would she like me? What should I do if she doesn’t? Oh, my Goddess, I wasn’t prepared for this! A week ago I thought I would be forever alone without a mate, and now I was worried about whether my mate’s pup would like me or not. I was going nuts.“How did you name her? Why Rosie?” I asked, just to have something to think about as I was pacing up and down in the room.“Her full name is Elena Rose O’Sullivan. I gave her my mother’s name,” Duncan said calmly, and I stopped abruptly. His mom. It was another topic he refused to talk about. “My mom used Elena, so we figured we would call her Rose. Rosie, just because it’s more fitting.”I was about to ask about his mother, but Marissa came in holding a little girl’s hand. She stopped at the door and looked at me with big, round eyes.“She is a little nervous,” Marissa mind-linked me. “S
It was already quite late when I dragged myself to our bedroom. I felt exhausted but satisfied with the work we had done today with Marissa. I haven’t heard of Duncan since lunch, but I was guessing he was busy, so I didn’t bother him.I went for a shower, and I felt myself relax under the hot water. I was planning on raiding his bookshelf, and snuggle up with a book till he comes back. But when I stepped out of the bathroom, I found him sitting at the end of the bed.“Hi,” I smiled at him and he stood.“Moira,” he stood up, and I stepped to him.“Duncan,” I put my arms around his neck and looked into his eyes.“I think we should talk,” he said, but his hand went to hold my waist on instinct. “Moira, you…”“I told your daughter that I loved you,” I finished it for him, even surprising myself, how calm I was.“Yes”“Your wolf can tell if I told the truth, can’t he?”“He did,” he sighed, putting his forehead against mine. “I feel so bad.”“Because you didn’t trust me? Because you kept s
I was sitting in his office again.I was getting fond of this armchair as I spent more and more time in it because I refused to be left out of pack matters. I attended every gathering, even though I usually stayed silent. Two weeks have passed since I arrived to the Blood Moon, and we had three rogue attacks in this past week. None of them were serious like the first one, which happened on the night I was accepted into the pack, but still, it made all of us uneasy. They told me they used to have this many in a month, not a week.I watched the men deep in discussion, already forgetting about me. I listened to each and every report of the patrol leaders and it made less and less sense. Jason, who was lucky enough to be there two of three times, said that now the attackers retreat before the reinforcements arrive. It seemed like they wanted to keep us under pressure, but for that, they weren’t strong enough. Our men usually returned with light injuries, healing up in a day’s time. They d
It took only two days for Noah and Josh to organize the meeting. We were sitting in the Rover just like when I left, with Noah driving and Caleb dozing off in the front seat. I held Duncan’s hand and stared out of the window. It was a beautiful, sunny day. Spring was finally kicking in, and the forest started awakening. Maybe I should seduce Duncan to go on another run with me when we get home.Noah stopped at the packhouse, and I saw Richard and Josh waiting for us. This time, there wasn’t that big fuss, I thought with a smile. We got a polite welcome, which honestly hurt, but as Richard and Duncan headed inside, Josh came to me with a wide smile and open arms. I returned his smile and hugged him. It felt so nice, but it earned us a growl immediately.I looked up at Duncan standing at the top of the stairs, staring at us. I gave Josh a peck on his cheek, then ran up to him.“Don’t be like this. He is like a brother to me,” I assured him through our mind link and put my arm in his. He
We ran fast, and we ran far. He took the lead, and my wolf followed him. I didn’t have any idea where we were anymore, but I trusted he would know his own territory. When he finally slowed, I saw something glistering in the afternoon light beneath the trees. I followed him to a clearing and saw a small lake. The whole place was simply lovely. The water seemed to be crystal clear and spring flowers bloomed everywhere around it.“It’s the Silver Lake,” the realization suddenly hit me, even though the lake was not silver at the moment. It was said that the Silver Lake got its name because under the moonlight the water looks like molten silver. There are even some legends saying that the lake has some special magic to it.Duncan went all the way to the water, and his big wolf laid down. I went and stretched out next to him, letting our wolves enjoy each other’s closeness and the warm sunlight.I don’t know how much time we spent there. Even just lying by his side in silence felt good.“Wi
