It was a clear spring night with chilly winds when we lined up to welcome Alpha O’Sullivan and his men from the Blood Moon pack. I was thankful for my decision to tie my hair in a tight bun, otherwise it would have been all around the place by now. My ears and nose were getting frozen, but I stood straight amongst the men, all a good head taller than me.
I was in the second line of warriors, right behind Richard, just as he wanted me. He was standing straight, his hands behind him, and I knew he was wearing his usual poker face. But I have known him for too long. I could see the tension in his shoulders and tight muscles under his elegant suit. I could feel his wolf being uneasy.
I looked at his Luna, and I sighed. Poor girl needed some comfort herself, not that she would ease her mate. I could sense her discomfort and even some fear. She was so fresh to the position; she was not ready, and that fact alone wouldn’t do any good to the Alpha tonight. I hoped at least she would listen to my advice and wouldn’t do anything stupid.
I felt Josh watching me, and he winked as I looked up at him. Being second in command, he was standing on the other side of Richard, and he pretty much worked like a lightning rod right now. He had always been more calm and collected than Richard, and that made him his perfect Beta. I only hoped that he could stop him if needed. And that the other Alpha would also have someone like that. Then we could survive this night.
I watched a dusty Range Rover getting closer, and I became more and more uneasy myself. I could feel my wolf walking up and down at the back of my mind. She was excited and impatient, and it was one of those rare times when I didn’t even know why. She wouldn’t tell me, or should I say couldn’t? I felt my stomach tighten as the car stopped in front of us and the doors opened.
One huge guy got out of the back seat, and I could tell at first look that he was a bodyguard. His size alone was quite intimidating, and I could feel that his wolf was quite strong, too.
The second man, getting out from the first seat, was supposed to be their Alpha, but I could feel no authority coming from him. He was good looking as hell, and sure was a great warrior, but not Alpha material.
I turned my head to see the man getting out of the driver’s seat. Could it be that the Alpha himself drove all the way here? How unusual.
Then I saw him, and suddenly time stopped.
He looked me right in the eye, and I felt myself shiver, just like my wolf did at the back of my mind. She was ecstatic as the feeling pierced my soul. He was my mate.
I watched him freeze for a minute before moving on and standing right before Richard. He was a good half head shorter than him, and not that pumped up either. No, this other Alpha didn’t have those big muscles to show off, but his presence and authority were way stronger than I ever felt Richard.
He offered his hand, and I shivered again as I heard his deep and husky voice for the first time.
“Alpha Richard,” he called calmly. “Nice to meet you,” he said when Richard accepted his hand. He had one of those crooked smiles when only one side of his lips moved and I found it incredibly sexy.
“Nice to meet you too, Alpha Duncan,” Richard answered, and I could see their joints turning white for a second as they shook hands. “Is that all of your men with you tonight?” he asked.
“I thought I shouldn’t arrive with an army for a negotiation about peace and alliance” Alpha Duncan smiled, and ran his eyes through the warriors lined up behind Richard, carefully avoiding me.
“We are happy to accept your good faith,” Richard forced a wry smile on his face, but I could feel him tense up even more. “These are my most trusted warriors who all came to greet you,” he made a gesture towards us, and we all bowed our heads politely. “Also, let me introduce my Beta, Josh and my mate, Jennifer”
He rendered our politeness with a nod, then turned to look at Jenny.
“How nice,” he bowed to her, and I shivered at his voice. Even his smile was cold and empty as he looked at Jenny. “This is my Beta, Noah, and this is Caleb,” he gestured, and Noah nodded. Caleb didn’t move.
“Now that we got to know each other, shall we go in?” Richard showed the way, and I ran to open the door for them, then quickly disappeared into the kitchen. I pushed my back against the door and took a shaky breath.
The infamous Duncan O’Sullivan was my mate. The Bloody O’Sullivan, whom even Richard didn’t dare to take the risk of making him our enemy. I found him good looking and he was a smooth talker, but he seemed quite cold. How many of the rumors could be true?
As I finally opened my eyes, I saw all six girls assigned to the kitchen look at me, stopped in midair with all their work.
“They are here. Three people, the Alpha, his Beta, and a bodyguard, the size of a mountain,” I told them and tried to smile. “It’s going to be alright girls. Is everything ready?” I asked, pushing myself from the door, and went to check the appetizers before they were served. Keep your calm, I told myself. I had to reassure these girls and keep things going. I could think about my newfound mate later.
I hid in the kitchen till they had dinner, then the girls cleaned the table and served the liquor. Jenny came out, and I reached for her hand, squeezing it reassuringly. “How was it?” I asked, looking at her pale face.
“It was all right, I think…” she said shyly. “They were so polite it was uncomfortable. But it is good, is it not? Maybe they won’t go for each other’s throats,” she tried to smile, and I didn’t have the heart to tell her that being overly polite means tension, and tension will definitely lead to fight, sooner or later. I just gave her a fake smile, which I tried to make reassuring, and sent her into their room.
We talked about it with Richard, and all of us agreed that Luna should not be there in the actual negotiations and should be kept safe in her room. I escorted her to the stairs and nodded to two of our guards. They followed her like a shadow and would guard her till the whole thing was over.
I went back, and sneaked in, as silently as I could. He was calmly sitting in his chair across the table, snipping on his whiskey. As I stood behind Richard, our gazes met again. He had the deepest blue eyes, I thought, as my stomach tightened and my wolf started whimpering inside. I didn’t even notice, we both froze until Richard cleaned his throat.
“She is Moira, one of our best warriors, and my left hand, if I can say,” he explained. “I hope you don’t mind her joining us.”
“Not at all,” Alpha Duncan answered, and I heard his voice becoming deeper than before. He didn’t move his eyes from me till I turned my face away. There was a crazy battle inside my body and soul, but I couldn’t afford it to be seen. Our packs depended on tonight.
“Come sit,” Richard patted the chair next to him and looked up at me. “Are you all right?” He whispered, seeing my face. How bad could I look? I nodded quickly and sat down.
The negotiations were hard. Both alphas were relentless. It was about their pack’s well-being, after all. The question of land made it hard to make the temporary peace they agreed on into a permanent one.
The Blood Moon, all in all, was a bigger pack, but they had many elderly and children to take care of. They had fewer warriors than us, but they were all skilled and hardened in battle. Richard was being stubborn, but I knew he thought that letting a little now would mean they would come back for more. And for stubbornness, Alpha Duncan was just as bad.
“Why don’t we take a little break,” I inserted after like an hour of dead conversation, and I put my hand on Richard’s arm. “Maybe we should discuss things again amongst ourselves. Both of you want the best of your pack. I’m sure we will find some kind of solution.”
“Be it,” Richard said, and Alpha Duncan nodded. I could feel his eyes on me, but I tried really hard not to pay attention. I was right behind Josh, leaving the room with them when he called my name. My whole body shivered, and I halted. I felt like his deep voice stroked my whole body. Taking a deep breath, I turned to face him.
“May I be at your service, Alpha Duncan?” I asked politely, being as calm and collected as I possibly could be right now.
“Leave us,” he told his man, and they closed the door behind them. I could see worry in Josh’s eyes, but I put on a smile and said it’s alright.
We were alone now, and my heart was beating like crazy. My breath was caught in as he moved unbelievably fast and pinned me to the wall. I felt his energy burning my skin as his hard body pressed against mine, and he brushed his face against my naked neck.
“Moira,” he growled my name again as I felt him breathing in my scent. “Mine,” he pulled away to look in my eyes, his hands not holding me down anymore, but one grabbing my waist and the other was on the back of my neck.
I knew he would kiss me, and when I really felt his hot lips against mine, I willingly opened up for him. He was violent at first, but when he felt my devotion, he became more passionate.
My arms hugged his hip and pulled him even closer. I could feel his hardness pushing against me and I was sure I was wet like never before. I would be off the minute he touched me. Even my wolf was going crazy in my head as he ran his hands along my sides.
“Tell me one good reason why I shouldn’t mark you, right here, right now,” he murmured as he started kissing my neck, gently sucking on the spot where his mark should go. It was hard thinking of one. Both my body and my wolf wanted him to do it. Right here, right now. My brain already had problems functioning.
I pushed him away a little and looked into his eyes again. “Not like this. I want to do it right. I will be yours before the sun rises. Promise. But you need to finish what you came for. Please.” I pleaded against all the growling my wolf made in my mind.
After a moment of silence, he moved away, and I tried to relearn breathing. He went back to the desk and drank up his whiskey in one go. Pouring another one, he brought it to me and I drank two big sips before giving it back. He raised his eyebrow, and I nodded.
He opened the doors, and I could see Richard and Josh, both being angry and curious at the same time. “What was that?” Josh murmured to me as they passed, but I didn’t answer. “May I ask?” Richard asked in a tone that made my blood freeze. He was really angry now. “You should thank Moira, because she just gave our treaty a new perspective,” Alpha Duncan said ever so calmly. “And that is?” Richard growled at him. “I will let you have your way with the lands and we will sign the peace between our packs,” he said in an off-handed manner as he sat down. “Why?” “Because she is coming with me,” he said, his voice deepening as he looked at me. We never quite discussed it, but I did promise him I would be his, so it only made sense. For a moment, my heart was heavy at the thought of leaving, but I pushed the feeling away. “No fucking way!” Richard roared, and as I turned to look at him, I could see that he was at his limits. “Just who do you think you are to request one of my pack mem
It was after midnight when we arrived at the Blood Moon. Their territory was to the north, reaching way up to the mountains. We passed a small town, lying hidden in a valley, and Noah turned on a winding serpentine. The packhouse was even deeper in the forest, and I suddenly remembered that none of our informants could tell where the main building exactly was. They hid it well, I thought, as I got a glimpse of lights behind the trees. I was sure it was well protected, too. Noah stopped the car in front of the old manor, and I just stared in awe. Even in the dark, it was beautiful. It may have been old, but they took good care of it. It was way smaller than our mansion, I thought, as Duncan opened the door for me and I got out. It had lovely, homey vibes, and I totally loved it. He offered me his hand, and I gladly accepted. I even gave him a little smile. “You are back,” a petite girl opened the main door, and I saw her freeze the moment she saw me, and the smile died on her face.
He lifted me up and carried me to the bed. I shivered as he gently pulled the nightgown over my head and I reached for his belt in return as he started kneading my breasts. I pushed his trousers down, but before I could touch him, he pushed me onto the mattress, climbing on top of me.I arched my back as he kissed one of my nipples and gently sucked on it. He moved to do the same with the other one till his hands ran low and touched me through my soaked panties. He growled as he moved down and tore it from my core.I could hear the deep growl at the back of his throat and I shivered as he pushed my thighs further apart to look at me. I blushed when he looked at me all spread out, then I suddenly forgot how to breathe when he kissed my clit.I could feel my orgasm building up as he sucked without mercy and his strong hands massaged my inner thighs, keeping them as far apart as they would go. I moaned out loud as he inserted a finger inside me and I held onto the sheets under me. He ins
I still had little spasms over my body when he pulled out of me and collapsed by my side. Letting my legs go, I laid flat on my stomach. I would be sore in the morning, but right now I couldn’t care less. I just watched his chest rise and fall as he slowly regained his breath. He pulled himself up, and I just watched the play of his muscles as he moved. He wouldn’t let me have a good look at him, but now I could freely watch. His whole body was lean, steely muscle. I could even say he was skinny, I thought as he ran his hand through his hair and I could count his ribs as he raised his arm. Not even an ounce of fat, I remarked as I watched him go to the bathroom.I found him incredibly sexy, but I couldn’t help but wonder about his scars. As he stood, I could see that his whole back was covered with them, some even reaching his butt. They looked like whipping marks, but that didn’t make sense. It was painful for sure, but a werewolf, not to mention a strong one like him, should heal wi
Duncan left me at dawn. He told me to sleep on, and he didn’t have to say it twice. I was quite beaten. When I woke up again, the room was lit by the morning sun. I rubbed my eyes and stretched. I felt my muscles a bit sore but in a good way. I stepped to the window to admire the view. My old room used to have a nice view, but it was simply beautiful. The forest seemed to be breathing with the remains of the morning mist, and the mountains were breathtaking. I had an urge to go out and take some pictures and that was when I realized that Duncan had brought my bag with the clothes, but I hadn’t seen my small backpack which held my most personal things, such as my phone. I will have to ask him, I thought as I left the amazing view and went to the bathroom. I took a quick shower and got ready. Deciding to go for a casual look, so I just put on my favorite pair of jeans and a cozy yellow sweater. I pulled my hair into a simple ponytail and put on some mascara when I heard a light knock.
We went back to his, sorry, our room, and I found my missing bag next to the bed. I was sure they had checked it, but I didn’t have any secrets, so I decided to let it go. “Can I call my Mum?” I asked, pulling out my phone from the bottom of my bag. “She works in town, and wasn’t there yesterday,” I explained, seeing Duncan’s surprised face. “She will freak out if she comes back for the weekend and I’m not there.” “Sure, go on,” he nodded. “Should I leave you alone?” “No, just stay. I will be quick,” I smiled at him, and went to the window, dialing her. “Hi, baby girl!” she finally answered after many rings. “Hi, Mummy!” I answered with a big smile. “How are you, my dear?” she asked in a happy voice, and I already felt bad, because I knew she would not be happy after I told her what happened. “I’m fine Mum, I just wanted to tell you something.” “What is it, sweetheart?” Mum asked, and she suddenly seemed worried. “You know… I left the pack yesterday. I wanted to tell you so y
“I still have a few questions for you,” I said, sitting in the middle of our bed, already showered and dressed in my usual PJs, an oversized t-shirt, and shorts. We spent the whole day together, and it was amazing. I had a chance to make an impression on what kind of man he was, and I liked what I saw. But still… “What kind of questions, darling?” he asked, drying his hair with a towel. “I want to know how many of the rumors are true,” I said, eyeing him. “You know, I have worked hard for them,” he said with a knowing smile. “Really?” “Really. My image is an important element of our pack’s security,” he said, sitting down at the edge of the bed, facing me. “What have you heard?” “They say that you were a rogue, and you killed an Alpha to take over his pack. Some say that you killed your own father for it.” “And it is all true,” he nodded, and I felt my heart getting heavy. He was my mate, and I was already falling for him. I so wanted him to say all those rumors were lies… “
I woke up to the ticklish feeling of someone playing with my breast. I could feel his hot breath on my neck, and a strong arm hugging me even closer as I stirred. I kept my eyes closed to enjoy his gentle touch against my skin, as his hand ran up and down my side, making me shiver. Then he started rubbing my butt and I sighed when I felt his hardness. His hand ran between my thighs and I couldn’t stop a moan escaping my lips. He was slowly rubbing my clit, his manhood gently poking me, easily finding my entrance. I was at the edge of a climax when he finally pushed in. I was still too tight so it was a little painful, but as he slowly started moving, the building pleasure hushed the pain. I heard him growl before his rhythm got faster, his thrusts stronger. “Duncan” I moaned his name, and he came inside me. I rode out my own pleasure and then just laid in his arms. “Good morning, beautiful,” he murmured into my ears, making me shiver again. I turned in his arms, and snuggled up aga
Things started falling apart a week later, when one morning Warren and Bran hadn’t returned. Everybody was on alert already, when Bran finally linked Duncan, reporting that they found a hideout. He said that there was a big movement, and they were probably preparing for something, but their leaders were not there. He left his group there to find out more, while he and Warren went ahead looking for the witch. Duncan decided that if they managed to find the rogue’s headquarters, he would take his best warriors and attack them before they could start attacking our borders. With that being said, the whole pack turned upside down the minute he dismissed the morning assembly. It may have seemed like total chaos, but in fact, everything was pretty well organized. All our warriors reported to the training grounds, where Noah and Gabriel organized them in small units, all ready to take off anytime. Duncan sent Caleb down to the village to make sure that everyone would be safe if something
“What’s going on here?” I heard Duncan’s cold voice, and it helped me come back to my senses. He was quite dangerous when he sounded like that, but oddly enough, it made me relax.“I believe we need to talk,” I told Warren as I stood from his chest, and held out my hand to help him up.Duncan just studied us with cold eyes, and I had no doubt about Gabriel telling him everything through their link.“You can go and hold your training. I’m staying with them,” he finally said. For a long moment, Gabriel just studied us with a dark gaze, then nodded and left. Marissa looked worried, but I sent her a reassuring smile, and she left us too.“Care to explain?” Duncan asked, his voice still calm, but by now I knew he sounded like that when on the inside he was anything but calm.“Warren decided to help with my training,” I answered, not looking away from him, as he absentmindedly rubbed his chest where I stabbed him. “But in the meantime, he showed me something interesting.”“Like what?” Dunca
Things settled down a little once more, but everyone was uneasy. It was like the silence before the storm.I sat in my usual armchair, listening to the reports, but they were the same as every morning in the past week.Duncan strengthened our border patrols on the east, from the ridge up north to the Blue Moon border on the south, not trusting their security one bit after the last incident. That meant we pretty much left the western borders unattended, but Warren and his men from the Crimson were going back and forth all the time anyway, and Duncan was pretty confident about Alpha Blackwood keeping the Silver Moon quiet and secure. But no matter how tight we kept security, patrols reported no rogue movement, or anything unusual.Bran and Warren returned empty-handed again, too. They found nothing on the first two nights, but then they found something that they believed to be a lead. But that turned out to be a dead end.Just like the other three, they found after that. They only manag
After everything that happened today, all I wanted was to snuggle up in bed and sleep for maybe two days, but of course, I couldn’t do that. What I got was a little snooze with Rosie when I tucked her in, and I fell asleep with her after reading. To tell the truth, it felt salutary. The love this little angel gave me and her unborn little siblings was intangible and really warmed my heart. To Duncan’s credit, he really tried not waking me. He came to check on us, and kept really silent, but I guess I just felt him, and woke when he was about to leave.“Wait for me,” I called after him, carefully getting up, not to wake Rosie.“You don’t have to come. Just stay with her and rest a little,” he offered, stopping at the door.“I want to come. Just a minute,” I answered, putting a stuffed animal in Rosie’s arms to take my place.“You are one stubborn woman,” he commented, and I just smiled.“That is one of my charms, is it not?” I grinned at him, wrapping my arm around his.“We are taking
It was the longest 20 minutes of my life till I ran straight to the Blue Moon’s packhouse. With car, taking the road, it was about a 45 minutes’ ride, but going straight down the mountainside, it was about a 20-30 minutes run, depending on your speed.I was pretty sure Duncan made a new record.“They let them through, Luna. The rogues came from the Blue Moon,” Noah’s words rang in my head all along.I was sure it was all just a misunderstanding. They would never do it on purpose. I knew it. Something must have happened, but if Duncan was mad enough to go straight to see Richard like this, I wasn’t sure if he would listen. He must be seeing red right now.Oh dear Goddess, he is going to kill Richard.“They are already there,” Noah informed me. “Caleb and Derek are with him, but they won’t stop him.”“Almost there,” I answered, cursing to myself.I would have been faster if I shifted, but I didn’t want to push my luck after what the doctor said, and also, I didn’t want to face my old pa
In the morning, I couldn’t remember anything about the dream, but I felt like shit. I was sleepy, with a growing headache, and my morning sickness was worse than ever. After I spent the entire morning in the bathroom, Ducan called the doctor on me, but he found nothing. He gave me some pills I could take if needed and told me to take it easy. “Don’t look at me like that.” I looked up at Duncan’s worried face above my mug. “You heard the doc. It’s nothing serious,” I tried reassuring him, as I took two pills with Mrs. Stevenson’s magic tea. I have been drinking this thing for weeks now, but I still haven’t figured out what she put into it. Not like it mattered. It did miracles to my poor stomach, and I was eternally grateful. “Still. You should take it easy today,” he sighed, kneeling next to me. “I will, don’t worry,” I squeezed his hand. “My only appointment is with Rosie in the afternoon,” I grinned, and he managed to smile back. By then, I felt totally fine, so I went for Rosi
Why does he always know what’s on my mind? I groaned internally. I really wanted to keep him out of this, but as things were now, keeping silent might hurt him more than telling everything. “He and Jenny had an argument,” I started reluctantly. “Neither of them told anybody what it was about, but it is ruining their relationship and making things difficult for the whole pack.” “And how does it concern you?” “I think it might be my fault,” I said, resting my head on his arm and staring up at the ceiling. “What is?” “It was about pups,” I blurted out. Wows of secrecy don’t apply to your mate, right? “They argued about having pups?” he asked carefully, and I just nodded. “And how is it your fault?” “I was the one who made Richard like this,” I sighed. “You know, this whole thing would be ridiculous, if it wasn’t ruining their life. Richard wants pups, but Jenny thinks she is too young to have a baby. It is as simple as that. But they got emotional, hurt each other, and now they don
The rest of the night went on more smoothly.Returning from the Alpha meeting, Duncan seemed calm and content. Richard still looked displeased, but Thomas kept him from doing anything stupid. Lucas rejoined his mother and acted like nothing happened, but I felt the steely gaze of his bodyguard on me from time to time.It was quite late when we finally got to the car and headed home. We told Duncan everything, and I saw his frown deepen. He seemed to be concentrating on the dark road, not saying anything, but I knew he was thinking carefully about it.And in the silence of the dark car, I did the same. I kept thinking about everything that had happened tonight. The main question, of course, was Lucas Montalvo and his offer, but my mind kept going back to my other conversations. How cold and angry Richard seemed, how tired Josh looked and how worried Mallory was. And at the end, I always ended up remembering Jenny’s face drenched in tears. Was it my fault? Have I done this to them?I m
I felt like rushing into the alpha meeting and strangling Richard with my own two hands, but I forced myself to stay calm and close the door behind me silently.Jenny would need some time to fix herself.Marissa waved to me, and I forced a smile on my face. Heading towards her, I tried to collect my thoughts, and I was so distracted, I didn’t even realize someone was standing next to her and Noah. And it was none other than Lucas Montalvo, future Alpha of the Crimson Pack.“Luna Moira,” he bowed politely. “It is nice to meet you.”His voice was deeper than I expected, his face friendly and still a little boyish, but his eyes were serious.“The pleasure is mine,” I returned his politeness.“Would you mind taking a walk outside with me?” he asked, and I almost raised my eyebrows. He was so overly polite, and it was even more disturbing from a boy as young as him.“You should go and hear what he wants to talk about,” Noah linked me before I could say anything. “I will be right behind you
