I knew it was going to be a bad day. I had gotten up late. My alarm had been waking me up less and less. I threw on my clothes. I didn’t really care what I looked like, I wanted to be invisible. Maybe if I was invisible, they would leave me alone. I doubt it. I didn’t want to be here, I didn’t want to be at school, sometimes I envisioned myself running away, free to be whoever I wanted to be. I knew better than to hope for it. I’m a werewolf, I am fine with that, I just don’t want to be in this pack. Alpha Jax and his Luna Nina were very nice. Their sons, Arrow and Arion were a different story. I had dubbed them the twins from hell when we were in elementary school.
As I headed out the door, I heard my mom in the kitchen.
“Wait! Rina, you forgot lunch!” She called out.
“I will grab something at school,” I yelled back.
The bell rang signaling the start of the first period. I was getting used to being late to my first class, it was gym. I hated gym. My coach is Betta Reid the pack’s beta. He is tough cunning and liked to make an example out of me. He wasn’t nearly as tough on everyone else.
When I walked out onto the field, Coach Reid, as he liked to be called; called out to me.
“Rina, if you insist on being late for my class, then you will continue to run laps. Five laps then join us.”
I grumbled. I could run five laps easily. He had tried to get me to try out for track but, I didn’t want to, the other girls would have picked on me anyway. I didn’t want to run laps with everyone watching me and laughing at my punishment again, especially the twins. Arrow and Arion were both in my gym class. They found it fun to torment me every chance they got. They would be turning eighteen soon. That meant they would find their mates. I felt bad for the mates! Sheila and Jackie both thought they were obviously their mates. Arion was dating Jackie and Arrow was dating Sheila. They deserved each other. Jackie was a bit nicer than Sheila but only because Sheila was scarier. Sheila was a monster. She decided she would be the Luna once she was found to be Arrow’s mate. She would sit at her desk ordering others around, even Jackie said she would do what Sheila said so she didn’t have to listen to her.
I shuddered as I ran thinking of either one being my Luna. I was not interested in becoming anything other than a regular pack member. I didn’t care for parties, speeches, and council meetings. I had decided when I was 12, that I would leave this pack as soon as I turned eighteen. I refused to have the twins as my Alpha. If they were indeed mated to Shelia and Jackie, I couldn’t imagine the awful future for this pack. I had three months to go. Hopefully, I could wait that long.
After I finished my five laps, I joined the rest of the class. Everyone was playing dodgeball. Yup, a bad day. I took my place on Arion and Arrow’s team. They were never separated. They did whatever they pleased which usually meant they got their way.
“Hey, tiny, don’t make us lose,” Arrow yelled to me making everyone laugh.
“Yeah, we stood a chance until you showed up!” Arion yelled causing everyone to laugh harder.
I rolled my eyes. When Coach Reid blew his whistle, everybody took their stance. I had not been given a ball, typical.
“In three, two, one, playball!” Coach yelled.
All at once, the field erupted with balls flying, wolves yelling, and of course, Arrow and Arion yelling directions at everyone.
“Get the ball!” someone yelled at me, I looked up in time to see Sheila throw the ball as hard as she could right at me!
“Catch it, catch it catch it,” I told myself. I was ready, then at the last second, I tripped over a rock in the grass. I fell forward just in time for the ball to slam into my face. I fell backward hitting my head on the hard ground. The entire class erupted in laughter.
“That’s my girl,” Arrow yelled as he ran over scooping up Sheila before kissing her as he spun her around.
Really? I thought to myself. She’s on the opposite team. I sat up, rubbing the back of my head. I felt something drip down my face. I reached up feeling my nose run. When I looked at my fingers, it was blood. Great, now my nose will be black and blue as well as swollen.
Arion was watching me from across the field. I looked away. I didn’t need them having more ammunition to use against me. Jackie ran over to him, she wrapped herself around him before they joined Arrow and Sheila.
Coach came and checked out my nose. “Go to the nurse, I think it may be broken.” He pulled me up from the ground.
“Darren, walk her to the nurse.”
“Ok coach.” Darren jogged over. He offered me his arm. I took it glad to have something to stop me from falling over.
I must have hit my head harder than I thought. I could have sworn I saw Arion look at me again. Nah, it was just the broken nose and giant goose egg on the back of my head.
When we reached the nurse, she took one look at me before grabbing two ice packs. She had me lie down on the cot. She put one ice pack under my head for the bump on the back. She wiped all the blood off my face, making sure my nose had stopped bleeding. She then placed the other ice pack gently on my face. I flinched at the cold.
Darren stood there watching me, a sympathetic look on his handsome face.
“You can go back to class, just be careful, tell coach I said to stop breaking the students!” She is Betta Reid’s mate, I felt bad for her.
“Ok, I will give him the message. Hey, Rina, you gonna be alright?” he asked, genuine concern on his handsome and totally kissable face.
I didn’t answer, giving him the thumbs up instead. A little while later, my mom came and picked me up. She took me to the doctor to have my nose checked out.
“Shelia threw the ball at you?” she asked anger on her face.
“Yeah but, we were playing dodge ball. I tripped instead of catching the ball.”
“Still, someone needs to put that bitch in her place,” she growled. Sheila’s mom had treated my mother the same way until my mom took her down in training one day. After that, she left my mom alone.
The doctor I saw was nice. She checked my nose, and without warning, she grabbed it, I screamed as she reset it.
“It will heal, and you will never know it was broken. I am giving you a note for Gym. No sports other than walking for two weeks.” She smiled as she handed me the note.
I stayed home the rest of the day. My mom owned a bakery in town, she was always busy there. I went with her to help her make dessert for the pack dinner. They paid her well for the desserts but she often said it was difficult to keep up with all the normal stuff plus dessert for the pack every night.
I heard the bell above the door chime. I wanted to run and hide when I saw Alpha Jax, Luna Nina, and the twins walk in.
“Hello Nadia, we would like to have you design a cake for the twins' eighteenth birthday. As you know it is in a month and a half.”
“Of course! I was wondering when you would come to see me!” she smiled politely. “Come right this way, I will grab the books and you can all start picking out what you would like.”
Luna Nina thanked her. My mom had been friends with Luna Nina when she was just Nina. They were still friends, but they were not as close.
I watched as they all headed into our design room. Arion looked as though he wanted to say something but decided against it. Arrow, on the other hand, smirked at me. Once they were inside with my mother, I rolled my eyes. Why did the hell twins show up everywhere? I mean they are gorgeous, and them being identical twins means double the eye candy but, they are so aggravating. They both had perfectly sculpted faces, their eyes were amber-colored but darkened when they were mad, their skin was sun-kissed and their bodies were muscular. They wore t-shirts to show off their muscles that rippled under the thin material. When they took their shirts off, their muscles trailed down below the waistline of their jeans. Their black hair looked so soft, I wanted to run my fingers through it, Wait what? No, I didn’t eewww. I could never compare to Jackie or Sheila, they both had supermodel bodies, Sheila was blonde with blue eyes, and her body had been described by plenty of guys as “perfect.” Jackie had light brown hair, her eyes were brown, and she had big boobs which all the guys talked about. I hated all four of them; I didn't care if they were the "it" crowd.
If you compared me to them, I am a plain Jane. I had dark brown hair, which was cut in layers, it stopped at the middle of my back. My eyes were dark brown too. My body was average. I had nice curves, but I was short and not nearly as toned as Jackie and Sheila.I wanted to stop thinking about them, so I decided to call my dad. He worked in the packhouse as one of Alpha Jax’s advisors. He was a general in charge of strategies and security for the pack.“Hey Pumpkin,” My dad answered. “How’s the nose?”“It hurts. Did you know the Hell twins were coming to mom’s shop today?” I didn’t bother to hide my annoyance.“Yes, I had set it up with your mother last week. Why? Did something happen?”Typical dad, worrying about his duties. “No, dad, it’s just well, can you give me a heads-up next time?”“What? Oh yeah, sure. I have to go sweetheart. I need to finalize the plans for security at their party. I will see you tonight. I love you.” He hung up without giving me a chance to speak. I press
Sheila looked as though she was in shock as she stared daggers at me. “You will pay for this,” she mouthed as she chased after Arrow.“Thank you.” I hugged Darren. He wrapped me in his arms. “I will always protect you.” He rested his chin on my head.“So, what was that about anyway, Arrow got really mad.” I snickered thinking of Sheila’s shocked face.A couple of weeks passed by. Darren and I were a real couple now. He walked me to and from every class. We had promised each other if we weren’t mates, we would go back to being best friends. I hoped we were mates. His Birthday is next week, I was going to throw him a party, but his teammates had beat me to it. The party was taking place on the day of his eighteenth birthday. I was excited but nervous at the same time. I wouldn’t know if we were mates until I turned eighteen. I wouldn’t turn eighteen for three more months. The night of the party arrived. Darren had picked me up. As we drove, he held my hand. He was now officially able to
They both froze before Arrow realized what I had said.“What? No, you can’t leave the pack!” Exclaimed Arrow as he jumped up almost falling out of his chair.“And why can’t I?” I could imagine the smug look on my face as I crossed my arms over my chest.“Because your ours,” he said before Arion could stop him.“Excuse me? I’m your what? Your person to make fun of? The wolf you get to laugh at with your girlfriends. Or wait! I know, I’m the girl you get to call names and throw food at, right?” I could feel the tears stinging my eyes.“You are not any of those things,” Arion whispered.“Yeah, you’re ours, our hot, sexy mate!” Arrow said.“Arrow!” Arion scolded.I just sat there with my mouth hanging open. I did not just hear that! What kind of a fool did they take me for? I could feel my face heating up with anger. “How dare you!” I yelled at them. “You mosey on in here telling my mother that you care about me and want to make sure I am ok, then you tell her you followed me into the woo
My mom came back a few minutes later. She looked between the twins and me. “I think these look beautiful in here; what do you think Rina?” She held the vase with both bouquets mixed together in it.“They had that vase at the nurse’s station?” I knew better than to believe that.“Well, no. I ran into the gift shop, the woman was so helpful. She asked who these were for, I told her my daughter’s mates had brought them, and she helped me pick out this beautiful vase. She also arranged them; don’t they look so lovely mixed together?”I rolled my eyes. “Mom, when do I get to go home?” I wanted to go home, I felt better but I needed space where I could be alone. I needed time to process all that has happened.“The doctor said tomorrow.” My mom was still looking at the flowers.I grumbled, “does anyone know where my phone is?” I could at least use it to take my mind off of being stuck here.“I’ll get it, I took it out of the bag you had, it’s been charging.” Arion walked over to the little t
We started driving heading along the road to my house. I could see the pack house in the distance. I wanted to get home; I had thought I would be so far away from here by now. I had hoped my duffle bag was here, otherwise, my life savings is gone. As we parked in the driveway all of us got out, except my dad. I looked at him pleadingly. “Sorry, Pumpkin, I have to go work on the security for our house, I have it done for the next couple of days, but I need to get caught up so there is no chance for a skipped time. I will see you tonight, I love you.” He put the car in reverse before I could protest.I looked at the twins who were holding my things. I didn’t say anything, instead, I walked up to the door and unlocked it, I gestured for them to come in. Once inside, I shut the door. I looked around at our modest home. Mom could have had a bigger one, my dad always tried to give her everything but, she liked our home. She said it had character and it was full of memories. I could smell
I couldn’t help but think how cute he is when he is flustered. I heard the door close, I let myself relax. My muscles were stiff from how much time I had been spending in bed lately. I spent an hour soaking in the tub. When I was finished, I picked up the fluffy towel from the shelf. I wrapped myself in it; I was about to open the door when it opened revealing Arion.“I thought I heard you, I would have helped you.” He held out his hand to me. I took it.“Where’s Arrow?” I asked. I was surprised it was just Arion.“He fell asleep on your bed. He hasn’t slept much since we found out you are our mate. He has been so worried. He isn’t as tough as everyone thinks.” He explained.When I walked into my room, I smiled at Arrow sound asleep on my bed. “We shouldn’t disturb him. He needs to rest too.” I couldn’t help thinking how cute he is asleep. I threw on some comfy clothes. I wasn’t going anywhere; I took Arion’s hand. “Come on,” I pulled his hand, and he followed me. We went downstairs;
The next day I didn’t wake up till eleven-thirty. I had been up late watching movies with the twins. Sunday, the last day before returning to hell. I looked around; I was alone in the middle of the bed. Where were they now? I heard my mom in the kitchen, it sounded like she was talking to someone. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes. I groaned as I slid myself to the edge of the bed, I stretched before standing up. I made my way into the kitchen, my mom was standing at the oven, the door was open, and I could see fresh cinnamon rolls. They smelled divine; I could almost taste them. Arion was looking into the oven with my mom while she explained everything you need to do to make sure they are soft and delicious. Arrow sat on a stool, talking to someone on the phone. He was the first to notice me.“Dad, I gotta go, k, bye,” he hung up as he turned to me. “Good morning beautiful mate.” He smiled as though he hadn’t seen me in days. I smiled as he hugged me too tight.“Arrow, you’re going to
The twins walked with me as we made our way to the entrance, I saw Darren who smiled as he made his way over. They stopped with me as I greeted Darren, this time he stopped a few feet from me as he noticed how the twins were watching him. “Hey,” he said looking nervous.“Hey, Darren,” I said back trying to sound nonchalant.“Ok, well, we will see you later,” Arrow said giving Darren a warning look. He had his arm around me as I held Arion’s hand.I didn’t really want to talk to Darren much anyway. His betrayal was still too fresh. When we reached the gym, Arrow, and Arion both kissed me before jogging to the locker room. I could feel my body trembling. I knew Sheila and Jackie would be here, they never missed school or classes. I sat down cross-legged on the floor to wait for the twins.“So, you hated me enough to take my boyfriend because someone better took yours, huh?” Sheila’s shrill voice said from the doorway. I turned to see her and Jackie glaring at me.“I didn’t even do anyt
Today was the last day before the mating ceremony. I was excited but also nervous. I would be standing in front of the pack as we are announced as the new Alphas and their Luna. We would also be announcing the twins I am carrying. I looked at myself in the mirror. So much has changed in a short time. I went from being invisible to being mated to my hell twins. I wouldn't change being their mate but sometimes I have doubts about myself. Since the medallion confirmed I am the true Luna, I have tried to push the worries away. I never would have imagined that simple me, Rina, would be the true Luna, mated to the Alpha Twins. "Hey Rina, you ok in there?" Arion's voice broke through my thoughts. "Yeah, sorry, I will be out in a minute," I called back. I ran my fingers through my hair one more time before opening the door. Arion was still standing there, he leaned down gently kissing my forehead. "We were getting worried," he explained. I peered into our bedroom, Arrow was still sleepin
The next morning, I awoke to the smell of bacon cooking. My mouth watered as the scent filled my nose. I stretched as I yawned. I slid off the bed, and walking to the bathroom, I could hear the muffled voices of my mates. I made my way to the kitchen, the smell of bacon making my stomach growl. "Good morning," I greeted my mates. "Good morning Babe," they answered in unison. "We made breakfast," they both smiled. "It smells divine," I smiled back. Arrow placed a plate of bacon, eggs, and homefries before me. I picked up my fork and took a bite. It tasted every bit as good as it smelled. I couldn't help the moan that escaped me. "This is delicious," I said shoveling another fork full into my mouth. They both chuckled, "I'm glad," Arion said happily. They brought their plates over and plopped down on either side of me. A comfortable silence fell over us as we ate. When I had finished, I carried my plate to the sink. Turning on the water, I picked up the soap."Um, what do you think
The book in my hands held more information than I had ever seen in one place. The book foretold an enemy to werewolves unlike any we had faced before. Not only was it one of our own, but the truest packs would be the main targets. The medallions were forged long ago to help defeat the threat when the time came. As I looked at the words staring back at me from the pages, I couldn't help the feeling of worry growing heavier in my chest with each passing sentence. "Rina, you don't look like you are feeling very well," Arion's worried voice broke through my thoughts. "I think you need to take a break."I sighed, "I think you are right, I am going to put this back for now but we will have to come back soon," I said knowing I would hold the book again. Once we exited, I couldn't help but think about the things I had read. I had stopped before I read too much further into what would happen once the enemy was discovered. I knew we were facing a huge threat but I knew I had to protect my bab
The hot water helped to soothe my muscles. I wanted to relax and forget all the weird things that had happened that day. Why did the medallion react that way to me? Was I truly the true Luna of our pack? Why did I start glowing when I was upset from the nightmare I had? All these questions kept racing around inside my head. I sunk, letting myself sink below the water before popping back up again. I wiped the water from my eyes, and when I opened them, I was staring into two sets of identical eyes. "What are you doing in the tub, little mate?" Arion asked, his eyes darkening a bit. "We would have run a bath for you and joined you," Arrow replied in a husky voice. "I can run myself a bath," I retorted. " I wanted a bit of time to soak by myself," I said, giving them a sly smile. "Besides, my body is a bit sore. I leaned back and closed my eyes. I felt a hand reach in and tickle me, and I slapped it away eliciting a laugh from Arrow. "We will let you enjoy your time," he chuckled
"Babe, we have you," Arion tried again to soothe my sobs. "It was horrible," I cried. I lifted my head to look at my mates. "Rina?" Arrow said. "I am not trying to scare you, but you need to breathe, please, breathe with me," he began taking deep breaths and letting them out slowly. I tried to follow but my mind couldn't focus. I felt an unfamiliar feeling that began in the pit of my stomach before spreading throughout my body. "Rina, you have to listen to us right now," Arion tried, his voice thick with worry. I lifted my head to look at him. "Rina, please, you have to calm down," Arion begged. I looked at my hands, the strange glow that had been in my eyes when Sheila's mother had insulted me earlier had spread and was now engulfing my entire body. I looked into the worried eyes of my mates. I sucked in a deep breath before slowly releasing it. As I continued to breathe, the glow began dissipating. I concentrated on the feel of my mates holding me and before long, I was n
"My eyes are glowing?" I asked incredulously. I closed my eyes and opened them again. "Are they still glowing?" I asked looking at my mates. "It is fading," Arrow answered. "What the hell was that anyway?" he asked looking at his father."That my son was the medallion confirming Rina is the true Luna of our pack. The medallion will only react that way in the hands of the true Luna," he explained. "Will that happen every time she holds it?" Arion asked."I can't be sure," he replied. "I have only heard tales of its power." I sat quietly, there was a strange tingling sensation spreading throughout my body. I wasn't sure what to do, it did not hurt but it felt strange, to say the least."Let it happen, do not fight it," Mirage said in my mind. "The Moon Goddess is giving you the power to protect and help our pack. We always had the power and strength, she is blessing us with her strength, we are destined for this.""Mirage, why is she giving us more strength if we were always strong
We were back in our wing in no time. I sat on the couch sipping a hot cup of tea, it normally helped me calm down but my mind was still racing. I couldn't get the scent out of my mind. "Rina, are you ok?" Arrow asked looking concerned. "What? Oh yeah, I'm ok," I replied. I didn't want to bring up the familiarity of the scent. I tried to forget it but despite having both of my mates snuggled in with me, I couldn't get it out of my mind. "Have the warriors found anything?" I asked not sure if I wanted a yes or no answer. "They haven't found anything. It's like they are searching for a ghost," Arrow grumbled. I sighed, nothing seemed to be alright. I was tired of feeling scared and worried, I should be happy. I have my mates, we are having our pups, and we will be telling everyone our happy news soon. No matter how much I tried, I could not shake the creepy feeling. "I am going to go check on the progress," Arrow said as he untangled himself from me. "I don't want to leave Rina b
When I woke up, I could still smell the four she-wolves Matt had brought here, I wrinkled my nose at the scent of stale alcohol and way too much cheap perfume. I went to the sink, filling my glass with cold water, I felt eyes on my back. I looked over my shoulder to see Matt leaning on the kitchen island. "Good morning," I greeted him, I was still aggravated about last night but didn't want him to know that, yet. "Sorry about last night, I was too drunk to know what was happening," he explained. I didn't answer right away. I turned to face him, "I don't understand you," I said honestly. "You know your friends are with me, but you try to undermine our relationship and our bond every chance you get," I wanted him to explain himself."You're right," he sighed. "I wanted to go back to a time when things were simpler. Taking over as Alpha is a big deal," he looked down at his hands. I looked at him to find sincerity on his usually cocky face. "Becoming Alpha is a big deal, but you are t
I ate my breakfast as the twins and Matt caught up. It was interesting to hear about the adventures they had shared. They had done a lot more together than I had expected. “It sounds like you had a lot of fun when you were together all the time,” I commented. “Yeah, we were as thick as thieves,” Matt chuckled. “Hey, what happened with you two, and that shy little wolf you always talked about? Did you ever make a move before you found her?” he asked looking in my direction.“You could say that,” Arrow chucked. “Rina is the shy little wolf we always talked about,” Arion answered. “So that little wolf was your mate that whole time?” Matt chuckled.“Yup, she is one and the same,” Arrow smiled putting his arm over my shoulders. Matt looked surprised, “Man, I still can’t believe the famous lady killer twins are not only mated but having pups! There must be a lot of jealous females out there.” He chuckled as he took a bite.I smiled uneasily, I knew he was right. I never thought in a mill
