Chapter 1

Author: Eternity
A weak candlelight flickered in the dim dungeon of the Ashcroft Manor in Philodorah's outskirts.

"It's finally done!" Theodore Yardley said while gazing at his wife with a complicated expression. "I hope you'll keep your promise."

"Yes, it's finally done," the breathtakingly beautiful woman sitting cross-legged before him echoed.

She was dressed in a red dress that accentuated her voluptuous figure. Her fair skin was smooth and flawless in every way.

She was Vivienne Ashcroft—the princess of the Ashcrofts and the most stunning woman of Philodorah.

Theodore looked pitifully frail compared to her. His face was deathly pale, and his body was thin to the point of being gaunt. There was only resentment and helplessness left in his eyes.

Vivienne rose to her feet and looked down at him. There wasn't a trace of affection a wife should have for her husband in her eyes. Instead, there was only pity. "I will keep my promise and let you go. I will also ensure the safety of your family."

As he heard this, the helplessness in Theodore's eyes faded slightly and was replaced by a glimmer of hope.

At the age of five, he had awakened the Solarborn Physique. It was a rare gift, but it brought him no fortune. Instead, it became the source of disaster for both him and his family.

The Yardleys were an insignificant family in Philodorah. As soon as the news spread, powerful forces began to suppress them. Each attack was more ruthless than the last.

His father had died before his very eyes, killed while trying to protect him. The family stood on the brink of annihilation.

At that critical moment, the Ashcrofts intervened on the condition that Theodore marry into their family.

To save his remaining family members, Theodore agreed and became the Ashcrofts' live-in son-in-law.

He once believed that the Ashcrofts valued his potential and wanted to nurture him.

He couldn't have been more wrong. The Ashcrofts never intended to nurture him—they only brought him in to serve as a dual cultivation furnace for Vivienne, who possessed the Lunarborn Physique.

Theodore was consumed by despair, but he knew that if he refused, his family would lose the Ashcrofts' protection and be completely wiped out.

Vivienne had promised him that once her cultivation was complete, she would let him go and guarantee his family's safety.

Thirteen years.

He had been locked in this dark dungeon for thirteen years, waiting for the day he could finally step into the light once more.

"But..." Vivienne continued speaking as she narrowed her eyes and drew the sword at her waist, thrusting it at him.

The blade flashed; Theodore had no strength to resist the attack.

"Why?" Shock and fury filled his voice as he stared at his severed right hand tendon. "I’ve cooperated with you for thirteen years! Why would you still do this to me now that you've completed the Solar and Lunar Convergence and attained Immortal Form?"

"Why?" Vivienne's expression remained cold. "Do you think that those noble families allied against you thirteen years ago just because of your Solarborn Physique?"

She smirked and continued, "To them, your physique was merely an opportunity to launch an attack. What they truly sought was the Yardleys' Seraphic Swordplay. Legend has it that it is a sword technique close to achieving immortality. If mastered, no family in Philodorah could stand against the Yardleys."

"Do you think the Yardleys would have ever let them kill my father if we had such a technique?" Theodore's face contorted with rage. "Do you think I would have willingly become the Ashcrofts' live-in son-in-law and become your cultivation furnace?"

"Is there any point in hiding it now?" Vivienne burst into laughter. "Did you really think no one knew about you secretly practicing sword techniques after marrying into the Ashcrofts?"

"No way! How could you possibly—" Theodore's heart trembled. He couldn't believe his ears.

"How could I possibly know?" Vivienne looked at him pitifully. "Your grandfather was quite the strategist. Even when his son was murdered, he refused to hand over the Seraphic Swordplay. He must have known that even if he did, the Yardleys would still face destruction. So, he agreed to send you to the Ashcrofts. If not for our strength, we might have met the same fate as the Yardleys. If you were to master the sword technique, you would wipe out the Ashcrofts and every other noble family in Philodorah."

Then, Vivienne's sword slashed through the air once more.

Theodore could only watch as blood gushed out from the wound in the tendon of his severed left hand.

"It's a shame that your grandfather was wrong about one thing. We don't care about the sword technique. What we want is your Solarborn Physique. What I want to know is—how are you able to cultivate the technique when the rest of the Yardleys can't?" Vivienne asked.

With his severed tendons, he could no longer suppress the fury raging within him. "Go to hell, you wretch!" Theodore roared.

When he married into the Ashcrofts, his grandfather had entrusted him with the Seraphic Swordplay, hoping he could master it under the family's protection.

For thirteen years, he lived like an obedient and humble dog at the Ashcrofts. He had swallowed every humiliation, from serving as a furnace to enduring the scorn of the servants who delivered his food. He never fought back because he knew this was his only chance and he had to succeed.

He could not allow the tragedy from thirteen years ago to repeat itself.

"You won't speak, huh?" Vivienne glanced at him coldly and delivered two more slashes, severing the tendons in both his feet without hesitation.

"Well, it doesn’t matter. I was only curious about it. So what if the Yardleys' sword technique is exquisite? It is only close to achieving immortality. But… I have already transcended the Innate Realm and become an immortal."

"You bitch!" Theodore trembled violently due to the pain and cursed, "You will die a miserable death!"

Vivienne chuckled and replied, "Do you think this is over?"

"Wh-what more do you want?"

A shadow of fear crossed Theodore's face; his hands and feet were crippled. However, he stood no chance against her even before he was hurt. Vivienne had stepped into the Immortal Realm after breaking through the Innate Realm.

"Severing the tendons in your hands and feet ensures that you can’t wield a sword or walk—but that alone isn’t enough!"

In a flash, she appeared before him and struck his abdomen with crushing force.

Theodore was sent flying the next moment. The impact was so intense that he nearly passed out from the pain.

"Only by destroying your energy core can I sever your cultivation foundation completely."

Vivienne stepped forward and sealed several of Theodore's major pressure points before taking out a pill. Then, she forced it into his mouth and whispered, "I promised not to kill you, but… the path to immortality ends here for you. I'll walk the rest of it for you. Enjoy your life as a mortal from now on."

"You wicked wretch!"

Theodore let out an agonized roar. His disheveled hair made him look like a demon crawling out of the depths of hell.

If it were just crippled limbs, he would still have a chance with the faint wisp of sword intent in his heart. If he were to step into the Innate Realm, he could rise again.

Since his energy core had been shattered, his foundation was ruined. The sword intent he possessed was utterly useless.

His grandfather's hopes and his thirteen years of suffering were all destroyed in a single moment.

Theodore longed to tear apart the woman before him, but he was powerless to do anything.

"I've ordered the servants not to stop you if you leave. But I think… you'd be better off staying here."

Without sparing him another glance, Vivienne sheathed her sword and left.

"So, this is what you call keeping your promise?"

Theodore sprawled on the cold floor with blood in his mouth as he shouted with anguish.

During the thirteen years of dual cultivation, he had developed a sliver of affection for Vivienne deep within his heart. However, he did not expect her to be such a cruel person.

It was true that she kept her word, but at the same time, she utterly destroyed his future and his last shred of hope. Theodore refused to accept this outcome because this was also the hope of his entire family.

"No! I refuse to accept this!"

A crimson light flashed in his eyes as the rage and unwillingness in his heart ignited the sword intent he had cultivated over thirteen long years.

Boom!

A deafening roar echoed in his mind as if the heavens and earth were splitting apart. That faint wisp of sword intent, now like a raging inferno, surged through his being.

"Just like a cycle, after rain comes sunshine. Imperfections at birth can be corrected with time…"

A deep voice echoed in Theodore's mind. His bloodshot eyes suddenly glowed with a silvery-white light.

In an instant, that light engulfed his entire vision. Like his sword intent, it spread through his body, fusing with him completely.

Had Vivienne still been there to witness it, she would have been utterly shocked.

At this very moment, Theodore was floating in midair. His body shimmered like a precious gemstone, emitting a dazzling silver glow.

Theodore found himself engulfed by a vast expanse of silver-white light. Strange images flashed before his eyes continuously. At first, they were moving slowly, but as time passed, they started accelerating."Cultivation… Immortal… Sword technique… Immortal Realm… Lord of Eternity!" The images flickered relentlessly, and when they finally stopped, Theodore felt as if his mind was about to explode. "These are… memories. They're a set of cultivation memories!"A complete memory played out at an astonishing speed before his eyes, detailing the entire life of a single person. That person was none other than the Lord of Eternity from the Immortal Realm!"The Immortal Realm!"In Theodore's understanding, immortals were an existence beyond reach. However, the owner of these memories had surpassed even that. He had entered the Immortal Realm and ascended to the highest level as a Lord."No matter who you are, if you were able to break the seal I left behind, then you must be my descend

What are my choices?" Theodore suppressed the hatred in his heart and asked calmly. "Don't play dumb. Ms. Vivienne gave you a choice—either rot in this dungeon for the rest of your life or get lost so that you won't defile the land of the Ashcrofts," Henry spat disdainfully. Upon hearing this, Theodore finally recalled Vivienne's words before she left. If he wished to leave, she wouldn't stop him. In fact, she would even have the household servants escort him back to the Yardleys. Sure enough, Emery added, "If you choose to leave, we will personally escort you back. However, the moment you step out of this place, you will no longer be the Ashcrofts' son-in-law." Theodore's brows furrowed slightly. Having endured humiliation for thirteen years, he had naturally learned to be shrewd, not to mention that he had just gained sixty years of cultivation memories of a Lord from the Sword Orb. An additional sixty years of experience was practically the same as living two lives.Af

The skies over Philodorah were heavy and gray when rain began to fall. "Granduncle Clyde… Granduncle Carson...I don't want to marry him..." Amidst the rain, a young girl in a blue dress was kneeling inside the Yardleys' grand hall, tears streaming down her face. She had a graceful figure and her slightly chubby cheeks were adorned with two charming dimples, making her look irresistibly sweet. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying. She looked around desperately with tears in her eyes, pleading with those in the hall. At her side, two groups of people sat upright, facing each other with solemn expressions. On one side were the Boltons, who had come with a marriage proposal, while the other was made up of the Yardleys' elders."Marriage is not something a mere child like you can decide on. Since Mr. Sebastian has come to ask for your hand sincerely, you should accept him. The Boltons are one of Philodorah's three great noble families. They won't mistreat you."The one who

"You're the son-in-law of the Ashcrofts, not of the Yardleys! Get out of here and return to the Ashcrofts immediately!" Clyde, who had finally snapped back to his senses, roared furiously at Theodore. "The son-in-law of the Ashcrofts?" Theodore shot him a cold glance. "After thirteen years of sacrificing for the family, I'm nothing more than an outsider to you guys, huh?" The unfathomable gleam in his youthful eyes sent chills down Clyde's spine. It left him momentarily speechless even though he was an elder of the family. "Hahaha!" Sebastian burst into laughter. "Do you even realize what leaving the Ashcrofts means?" "I do." Theodore loosened his grip on Liliana and gently pushed her behind him. "Yet you still dare to show up?" Sebastian sneered. "It seems like you want to drag the Yardleys down with you!" "Drag them down with me?" A murderous glint flashed in Theodore's eyes as he stared at Sebastian coldly. "Why don't I kill you first before dragging them down

The grand hall was filled with the elders of the Yardleys.Clyde was at the front of the hall, presiding over the meeting. He knew exactly why the Ashcrofts had come. Given the current strength of the Yardleys, they had no choice but to submit. Even if Sebastian openly declared that he wanted to take Liliana as his mistress, they could only sacrifice her for the sake of the family. However, he hadn't expected the return of Theodore who had been the Ashcrofts' son-in-law for thirteen years! If not for the corpses strewn across the floor and the thick stench of blood lingering in the air, they would have thought they were dreaming. After a long silence, a wail of despair broke out. "They're dead… No… The Yardleys are done for! We're dead meat now!" It was Carson who spoke. His face turned pale as he stared at the lifeless bodies on the floor. The expressions of the other elders were just as grim. "If Liliana had become Sebastian's mistress, it could have bought us s

At this moment, Clyde finally came to his senses, his face darkening to an extreme. Theodore continued with a cold gaze, "I never figured it out back then. The fact that I possessed the Solarborn Physique was kept a strict secret within the family. Aside from Grandpa and my parents, no one else knew about it! And yet, when I was five years old, suddenly all of Philodorah knew!" "Nonsense!" Clyde shot to his feet and looked around at the others present. "Don't listen to this little brute! He's slandering me!" "Are you sure that I'm slandering you?" Theodore chuckled. "Then tell me, how do you know the words 'Seraphic Swordplay'? Did Grandpa tell you about it?" "Yes, yes! I heard it from Callum," Clyde quickly responded. "Callum told me about the sword technique." "Then, do you know why I married into the Ashcrofts? And why did I come back?" Theodore sneered. "Because… I brought the Seraphic Swordplay with me when I joined the Ashcrofts. Grandpa said that if I master it one

Theodore was seated where Clyde once was while holding his severed head which was still dripping blood.Meanwhile, Clyde's body lay lifeless in a pool of blood like the other corpses scattered across the hall. It was a shocking sight for the people present. Most of the Yardleys had hoped Theodore would stay with the Ashcrofts. That way, the other families in Philodorah would have some reservations about acting against them. Even if Theodore was crippled, he would remain the Ashcrofts' son-in-law as long as he was alive. The Yardleys and the Ashcrofts would still be tied together by their marriage alliance. However, no one had expected him to come home. Not only had he returned, but he had done so in the most dominant way possible. He had first killed Sebastian, who had come with a marriage proposal. Then, he exposed Clyde, the traitor who had leaked his family secrets all those years ago. The crowd stared at the young man before them and suddenly found him unfamiliar. H

Theodore stopped in his tracks after arriving at the patriarch's seclusion chamber. He was very concerned about his grandfather's safety. Thirteen years had passed, yet Theodore still vividly remembered his grandfather's words from back then. "Theodore, Grandpa has been in seclusion in the chamber all this time. I'm usually the one who brings him his meals," Liliana said. "But, I haven't seen him for the past two years." "For two years?" Theodore's heart sank. "How long has Grandpa been in seclusion?" "Three years," Liliana replied. "Three years ago, he suddenly announced that he was going into seclusion. After that, he handed over all the family affairs to Granduncle Clyde—" "Don't call him Granduncle. He doesn't deserve it," Theodore interrupted coldly. Liliana smiled bitterly and asked, "Theodore, how did you become so powerful all of a sudden? And Vivienne, is she..." "Don't mention that bitch's name!"Theodore couldn't suppress the lingering fear in his heart

Using his internal energy, he started to control the flames in the furnace, refining the ingredients within. An hour later, Theodore stopped, returning the strength of the flames to how it once was, before leaving the alchemy room. Then, he returned to the spiritual room, took out a bottle of Energy Cultivating Pills, and swallowed one.The pill melted as soon as it went into his mouth, and a surge of immense medicinal energy flooded his body. Then, he tried to recall the runes he had just seen earlier. According to his ancestor's memories, even the person who created the array would have to go through the correct path in order to enter the place hidden by the array."Those runes are placed in the positions of stars, so a normal approach will only lead to being trapped!" Theodore closed his eyes and pondered, while silently reciting, "Dubhe is heaven, vast and grand, Merak is the earth on which we stand. Phecda is man, Megrez is time, and Alioth sings a song, divine. Mizar is law, firm and true, and Alkaid the star, lighting paths anew…"As he chanted, he opened his eyes and started walking according to the positions of the stars.Unfortunately, he failed the first time, but he memorized his path and continued trying. Each time, he took exactly seven steps, each in a different direction. Finally, on his tenth attempt, the fog in front of him split open to reveal a path, and Theodore stepped forward immediately, finding h

Theodore breathed out a long breath and stepped into the valley.Gripping the black sword tightly, he remained vigilant of his surroundings. His exit was blocked by the Stormback Bear, and if he couldn't find the herb to use in pill refinement, he'd either starve to death in the valley or become fodder for the beast waiting for him outside. His ancestor was a Lord, after all, so if he found out that his descendant had died in such a miserable way, he would probably be so angry that he would come back from the dead."If spiritual herbs can grow here, there is definitely spiritual energy!"The old man didn't know that he actually picked a spiritual herb even though its spiritual essence was not particularly rich.As Theodore stepped into the valley, he became increasingly aware of how eerie it was. The valley was dark and damp, with its top shaped like the mouth of a bottle, leaving the sides mostly in the shadow. Only in the central area did the vegetation grow abundantly. The val

After the chief steward finished speaking, he promptly left the Clayton family's grand hall without saying another word. He planned this all along!" Richard cursed angrily. "He's been secretly cultivating Theodore so that the agreement from thirteen years ago would be overturned! Now, we're bound to fight the Yardleys to the death whereas the Ashcrofts reap all the benefits!"Joseph immediately understood the situation, and he gritted his teeth angrily. The herb itself contained spiritual energy, so the place where it grew definitely wasn't ordinary. That's why Theodore was willing to give it away so easily. The old man hesitated."I understand that this is your livelihood, but with
