Chapter 8

Author: Eternity
Theodore was seated where Clyde once was while holding his severed head which was still dripping blood.

Meanwhile, Clyde's body lay lifeless in a pool of blood like the other corpses scattered across the hall.

It was a shocking sight for the people present.

Most of the Yardleys had hoped Theodore would stay with the Ashcrofts. That way, the other families in Philodorah would have some reservations about acting against them.

Even if Theodore was crippled, he would remain the Ashcrofts' son-in-law as long as he was alive. The Yardleys and the Ashcrofts would still be tied together by their marriage alliance.

However, no one had expected him to come home.

Not only had he returned, but he had done so in the most dominant way possible. He had first killed Sebastian, who had come with a marriage proposal. Then, he exposed Clyde, the traitor who had leaked his family secrets all those years ago.

The crowd stared at the young man before them and suddenly found him unfamiliar. His face was youthful, but his gaze was like someone who had experienced the vicissitudes of life.

No one dared to meet his gaze, especially those who had followed Carson's lead just now. They were trembling in fear while regretting their decision to stand behind Clyde just moments ago.

On the other hand, those who had remained neutral silently rejoiced.

However, the looming crisis of annihilation still weighed heavily on everyone’s hearts. Theodore was indeed powerful, but he had yet to step into the Innate Realm.

The gap between a foot in the Innate Realm and a true Innate Realm cultivator was like the difference between heaven and earth.

"Theodore, have you mastered the Seraphic Swordplay?" Austin broke the silence in the grand hall.

"Yes, Uncle Austin. I have mastered the Seraphic Swordplay."

Theodore then revealed how he had brought the Seraphic Swordplay to the Ashcroft Manor and trained in secret. Of course, he omitted the part about inheriting the Sword Orb.

At once, the grand hall erupted in murmurs. The Yardleys took great pride in their sword techniques, but the secret of the Seraphic Swordplay was only passed down to the heir chosen to inherit the patriarch's position.

The Yardleys had been in a state of confusion when rumors recently spread that they possessed a near-immortal sword technique.

"Theodore, can your strength defeat an Innate Realm cultivator?" Anthony asked.

The two brothers questioned Theodore in perfect coordination to get answers to calm the family down. Theodore's merciless slaughter had left the Yardleys' elders deeply unsettled.

As Theodore's uncles, they had to stand by him. After all, Theodore's father was their most respected elder brother.

Theodore understood their intentions. He had inherited Ezekiel's legacy, including the Sword Orb and sixty years of imprinted memories. Though he had yet to fully digest them, he had become an extraordinary force.

"Not yet," Theodore replied.

His response sent another wave of despair through the grand hall. Even Austin looked visibly disappointed. The impending annihilation weighed on everyone like a mountain.

"Does that mean that you will be able to in the future?"

Unlike the others, Anthony looked ecstatic.

"If I step into the Innate Realm, I will be invincible in the Innate Realm," Theodore replied calmly.

"Is that true?" Austin lifted his head and asked.

"Yeah." Theodore nodded.

The moment he finished speaking, Austin immediately declared, "In this time of crisis with Lord Callum in seclusion, we cannot go a day without a leader. Theodore has sacrificed thirteen years for the family. Upon his return today, he slayed our enemies and eliminated internal traitors. As the eldest son of the direct lineage and the one who has mastered the Seraphic Swordplay, I believe Theodore should take charge of the family's affairs!"

"I second that." Despite his exhaustion, Anthony stepped forward and stood before Theodore. "Greetings, Lord Theodore."

Although some of the elders harbored dissatisfaction, the situation left them no room to object.

Carson was the quickest to react. He immediately stepped forward respectfully. "Greetings, Lord Theodore."

"Greetings, Lord Theodore." One by one, the Yardley elders in the grand hall followed suit.

"Since everyone is entrusting me with the position of acting patriarch, I will accept it."

Theodore swept his gaze across the hall and didn't waste time on any pleasantries.

"I will let bygones be bygones for what has happened previously. However, if anyone dares to conspire with outsiders and bring harm to the family—this will be your fate!"

With that, he tossed Clyde's severed head in the air, and it rolled to a stop right at Carson's feet.

Carson almost collapsed as he stumbled back in horror.

After Theodore ordered the corpses in the grand hall to be taken out and buried, he requested for the elders to temporarily stay in the guest chambers for now.

At his command, those who had sided with Clyde earlier were immediately placed under house arrest. The Third Elder, Carson, was the first to be detained.

Once everyone had left, Theodore stepped down from the main seat and greeted Anthony and Austin respectfully. "Thank you, Uncle Austin and Uncle Anthony."

Austin immediately patted his shoulders. "Theodore, you've grown to understand a lot of things. It's the family that has failed you."

"Theodore, shouldn't we keep a closer watch on the elders?" Anthony voiced his concern instead of exchanging courtesies as he was worried about what might happen next.

"I will entrust this task to you, Uncle Anthony. Give me three days. If they refuse to behave, I'll leave it to you to handle them."

Theodore was deeply grateful to both of his uncles. They were the only ones who had spoken up for Liliana just now when Sebastian forced her to be his mistress. Especially Anthony—he had fought for her even when the odds were against him.

"I am your uncle, your father's brother. He was always nice to us when he was alive. As Liliana's uncles, we must protect her," Anthony said.

Upon hearing this, Austin lowered his head slightly. As Theodore's uncle, he had indeed pleaded for him earlier, but he wasn't that firm in his stance.

Theodore held no resentment toward him. With sixty years' worth of memories from Ezekiel and thirteen years of silent endurance, he understood the brutal reality of the strong preying on the weak.

Austin may not have been resolute, but he had still spoken up for him. It was a gratitude Theodore would never forget.

"Theodore, what happens next..." Austin continued anxiously.

The truth could not be hidden forever. Even if the Yardleys sealed off all information, the Boltons would inevitably learn of Sebastian's death.

Moreover, the Yardleys were already the target of many factions in Philodorah. They were under intense scrutiny; it was impossible to keep this hidden for long.

Theodore knew he was far from being able to take on all of Philodorah's forces with his current strength.

But, that was only for now. As long as he was given enough time, the forces would become insignificant.

"Where is Grandpa cultivating in seclusion? I need to see him first. Give me three days to handle the family's affairs."

Theodore was worried about his grandfather. Clyde's final words had left him deeply unsettled.

"Theodore, I know where Grandpa is. I'll take you there." Liliana immediately stepped forward.

"Please take charge of the family matters for the next three days, Uncles," Theodore said.

Although Anthony and Austin didn’t fully understand his confidence, they felt somewhat reassured seeing that he had reached Peak Postnatal Realm after returning from the Ashcrofts.

Without further delay, Liliana led Theodore to the patriarch's seclusion chamber.

Theodore stopped in his tracks after arriving at the patriarch's seclusion chamber. He was very concerned about his grandfather's safety. Thirteen years had passed, yet Theodore still vividly remembered his grandfather's words from back then. "Theodore, Grandpa has been in seclusion in the chamber all this time. I'm usually the one who brings him his meals," Liliana said. "But, I haven't seen him for the past two years." "For two years?" Theodore's heart sank. "How long has Grandpa been in seclusion?" "Three years," Liliana replied. "Three years ago, he suddenly announced that he was going into seclusion. After that, he handed over all the family affairs to Granduncle Clyde—" "Don't call him Granduncle. He doesn't deserve it," Theodore interrupted coldly. Liliana smiled bitterly and asked, "Theodore, how did you become so powerful all of a sudden? And Vivienne, is she..." "Don't mention that bitch's name!"Theodore couldn't suppress the lingering fear in his heart

She hurried to open the door and saw Austin standing outside with an anxious expression."Where's your brother?" Austin asked. "Theodore is cultivating inside. Uncle Austin, what's—" Though Liliana was still young, seeing his grave expression sent a wave of unease through her. Austin rushed inside and said, "Hurry up! You guys need to leave immediately!" "Uncle Austin, what's going on?" Liliana chased after him and asked."There's no time for questions! It'll be too late if you don't leave now!" Austin entered the room and found Theodore seated cross-legged on the bed with his eyes closed. "Theodore—" Theodore's brows twitched slightly before he slowly opened his eyes. Austin found it hard to meet his eyes. Although he was only eighteen, his gaze belonged to someone who had experienced a g

Theodore almost burst into tears. He didn’t shed a single tear even when his energy core was crippled. However, his grandfather's words nearly broke his composure. Still, he forced himself to hold them back. "Innate Realm… Lord Callum has broken through to the Innate Realm." "The Yardleys finally have an Innate Grandmaster. No one will dare bully us anymore in Philodorah." "Our ancestors are watching over us!." Feeling Callum's powerful aura, the Yardleys finally let out a sigh of relief. They had been suffering under oppression for too long. The events of thirteen years ago were still fresh in their minds. They all believed that this time, the Yardleys wouldn't be able to escape a disaster like the one before. With the patriarch emerging from seclusion and breaking through to the Innate Realm, the Yardleys had hope now. "No way! He couldn't break through for so many years! How did he succeed?" One man's joy was another man's sorrow.Carson's face turned ashen,

No one had expected Theodore to be so confident when facing an Innate Grandmaster. After all, Innate Grandmasters were the strongest existence in all of Philodorah. They were like divine figures to ordinary people. "Theodore, take Liliana and leave immediately," Callum said as he held off Richard and Wayne."Go," Austin stepped forward and added, "I'll buy you some time." The remaining guards of the Yardleys gathered together instantly. These were Callum's most trusted men who had been carefully trained over the years. "Haha! A bunch of nobodies like you guys think you can stop me? Little brute, you're not getting away today!" Harold took a step forward and unleashed the powerful internal energy of an Innate Grandmaster. The surrounding guards immediately felt unwell and lost the energy to fight. They could barely even take another step. Austin was about to act when Theodore stopped him. His Solar Force surged as he said, "Grandpa, he is right. Even if we escape the Yardley

The three men who were engaged in battle glanced in Theodore's direction. Callum's eyes flickered with both astonishment and delight, but in the end, a helpless look settled on his face. "If only the Yardleys had a few more Innate Realm cultivators..." Callum sighed inwardly. Richard and Wayne were shocked and excited. Power like this was something only those near immortality could wield. This discovery made their trip worthwhile. "Well, well, well! The Ashcrofts have really put on a good act. They claim to have made you a furnace for thirteen years, destroyed your energy core, and drained you of your Solarborn energy. Turns out it was all a lie!" Harold's shock ran even deeper than his father's. The moment their swords clashed, the cleft between his thumb and index fingers went numb. He had been using his Innate Realm's internal energy, yet Theodore had humiliated him by forcing him to retreat ten steps using only his formidable sword technique. Something like this had

It was a shocking sight. No one had expected that the one shouting for the other to kneel would end up on his knees instead. The reversal happened so quickly that no one could react in time. It was only when they saw Harold trembling and gritting his teeth in pain that they realized this was real. An Innate Grandmaster was being forced to kneel by a single strike from a Postnatal Realm cultivator. The ground was cracked open, and his kneecaps were crushed. The sheer power behind that strike was terrifying. Meanwhile, Theodore stood tall, gazing down at him. His pupils had turned completely silvery-white like a deity descending upon the mortal world. "No way! How could the Seraphic Swordplay be this powerful? It actually allows a Postnatal Realm cultivator to challenge someone in the Innate Realm!" "They say this sword technique is nearly at the level of an immortal. An Innate Grandmaster is nothing more than an ant in the face of an immortal!" "Theodore is only i

Tears welled up in Callum's eyes. If Theodore still remembered what happened all those years ago, it was the same for him. For thirteen years, the image of his eldest son's death had haunted his mind daily. That helplessness was the driving force behind his breakthrough to the Innate Realm. Theodore's words tugged at his heartstrings. He knew that his grandson wasn't just doing this for himself—he was doing it for him as well. "Ahh!" A bloodcurdling scream broke the silence.Theodore severed all five fingers of Harold's hand swiftly. In the very next instant, his sword came down again, cutting off Harold's sword-wielding arm. "Theodore, you little brute! How dare you harm my son? I swear the Yardleys will suffer a fate worse than death!" Richard's eyes burned red as he watched his son's agonizing state. His shock was just as great as his fury. He had never imagined that the Boltons would end in defeat today at the cost of his son who was an Innate Grandmaster. In his ey

After Richard and his men had retreated, silence engulfed the Yardleys. Everyone believed that the family would be annihilated today, yet the tides had turned. "Th-they actually left," Austin broke the silence. "Theodore defeated an Innate Grandmaster. We aren't dreaming, right? The Boltons really left!" The crowd snapped back to their senses and looked at Theodore with admiration, as if he were a deity. In their eyes, Innate Realm cultivators were an existence akin to gods. Yet Theodore had slain one when he was still in the Postnatal Realm. On top of that, the Boltons' two remaining Innate Grandmasters were completely intimidated and forced to leave. Richard even abandoned his son's corpse. If word of this got out, no one would believe it. However, one man's joy was another man's sorrow. When Harold was killed by Theodore, Carson, and the other elders, as well as their traitorous family members, all turned deathly pale.Carson wet himself and collapsed to the groun

The blade started to glow red, and the Stormback Bear's body began to wither and shrivel up at a visible pace. After some thought, he plucked out a few before heading to the other rooms. After seeing that the scripture room and treasure room were empty, he walked out disappointedly and returned to the alchemy room.Watching the fire crackle in the furnace, Theodore sent the herbs that he plucked earlier into the furnace. Using his internal energy, he started to control the flames in the furnace, refining the ingredients within. An hour later, Theodore stopped, returning the strength of the flames to how it once was, before leaving the alchemy room. Then, he returned to the spiritual room, took out a bottle of Energy Cultivating Pills, and swallowed one.The pill melted as soon as it went into his mouth, and a surge of immense medicinal energy flooded his body. Then, he tried to recall the runes he had just seen earlier. According to his ancestor's memories, even the person who created the array would have to go through the correct path in order to enter the place hidden by the array."Those runes are placed in the positions of stars, so a normal approach will only lead to being trapped!" Theodore closed his eyes and pondered, while silently reciting, "Dubhe is heaven, vast and grand, Merak is the earth on which we stand. Phecda is man, Megrez is time, and Alioth sings a song, divine. Mizar is law, firm and true, and Alkaid the star, lighting paths anew…"As he chanted, he opened his eyes and started walking according to the positions of the stars.Unfortunately, he failed the first time, but he memorized his path and continued trying. Each time, he took exactly seven steps, each in a different direction. Finally, on his tenth attempt, the fog in front of him split open to reveal a path, and Theodore stepped forward immediately, finding h

Theodore breathed out a long breath and stepped into the valley.Gripping the black sword tightly, he remained vigilant of his surroundings. His exit was blocked by the Stormback Bear, and if he couldn't find the herb to use in pill refinement, he'd either starve to death in the valley or become fodder for the beast waiting for him outside. His ancestor was a Lord, after all, so if he found out that his descendant had died in such a miserable way, he would probably be so angry that he would come back from the dead."If spiritual herbs can grow here, there is definitely spiritual energy!"The old man didn't know that he actually picked a spiritual herb even though its spiritual essence was not particularly rich.As Theodore stepped into the valley, he became increasingly aware of how eerie it was. The valley was dark and damp, with its top shaped like the mouth of a bottle, leaving the sides mostly in the shadow. Only in the central area did the vegetation grow abundantly. The val

He planned this all along!" Richard cursed angrily. "He's been secretly cultivating Theodore so that the agreement from thirteen years ago would be overturned! Now, we're bound to fight the Yardleys to the death whereas the Ashcrofts reap all the benefits!"Joseph immediately understood the situation, and he gritted his teeth angrily. Then, they returned home.Suddenly, Liliana remembered something and asked, "Theodore, what about grandpa? He kept bowing in gratitude. Theodore asked, "I have something to ask.""Yes, of course. If I know the answer, I'll surely tell you," The old man replied."Where did you find that herb?" Theodore asked. In his opinion, that immortal herb was precious, but its value paled in comparison to the place that could produce it in the first place. The herb itself contained spiritual energy, so the place where it grew definitely wasn't ordinary. That's why Theodore was willing to give it away so easily. The old man hesitated."I understand that this is your livelihood, but with
