Chapter 34It had been surprising when I came to pick up the Alpha's dinner yesterday and Stella asked no questions whatsoever about why she had not seen me for the entire day and where I had been but I should've known not to relax. I should've known to prepare myself to be bombarded today because knowing, Stella, she wouldn't let me rest until she unearths every single information that she needed from me...as long as it had to do with my work at the palace at least. As for my personal information, I know there we're things she was dying to know but she tried her best to let me have my privacy and I appreciated that. "You're just going to stare at me and not say anything?"I tried a smile but she didn't return it, "Why does it matter, huh?""Why does...?" Stella scoffed, "Can you believe this girl?" She said, briefly raising her hands up in the air like she was talking to it. "You have a duty I'm this palace and I'm basically your supervisor. Besides, you're always here when you're n
apter 35Maybe this was some kind of punishment. Tsk! Even 100 whips sounded better than having men holding the two highest positions in a pack lie to you because they think you’re a gullible maid. I feel so insulted! I wouldn’t have mind if Lucas turned out to be my mate. He was nice and caring. Well until I realized that the whole thing might really just be a game. I mean, the beta of a pack in which I worked as a servant was interested in me? I scoffed out loud, how stupid I’ve been. It would be easy to understand if he had known my past but I was certain that he didn’t.Then the Alpha comes to my room in the middle of the night and claims that I am his mate? I sighed. These boys have way too much time on their hand. Like I would believe someone like him was my mate. Apart from the jarring fact that I could feel no connection whatsoever from the mate bond that should exist if he was really my mate, why would I even want a mate with the kind of mood swings he gets? Why was I sent a
Chapter 36I had never been so happy to have woken up really early as today because I came out of my room to see a humongous bouquet of flowers just chilling right in front of my door. I spent a couple of seconds staring at it like it was a bomb ready to explode before I heard another door start to open so I quickly carried it inside with me and shut the door. Wasn’t trying to feed that gossip mill.Finding the tag attached to it, I turned on the light so I could read what was written on it.Morning, beautiful.Don’t mind me, jut doing what I can to ease your thinking.I chuckled disbelievingly. What? Alpha Jason appears to have tired of his facade. Or didn’t Lucas get the memo? I shook my head. How stupid and naive they must think I am. I stared at the flowers. They should be romantic, they were even some of my favorites but now it just looked like an insult to me. Deciding to just leave it on the floor-since the bed was the only furniture in my room-and let nature decide what happe
chapter 37I nibbled on the pancakes so generously gifted to me as I worked my ass out in the Alpha’s closet. He was a considerably neat person so why did this look like two toddlers with sugar rushed had played in here today? Was he purposely trying to burn me out? I wasn’t well acquainted with the arrangement of his closet but since I’d rather not have to ask him anything, I decided to deal with it myself. First, I folded all the trousers and put them on one stool, then all the casual shirts on another stool and…why does he even have so many stools. I hanged everything I deemed fit to be hanged and pushed all then shoes I deemed were fit to cleaned one corner before going ahead to arrange the rest of his humongous piles of shoes on the shoe rack. I don’t think he had any need for three-quarters of the shoes he had here. In fact, I could bet there were a ton of them that had never smelt his feet. Speaking of smell, I was about to drown in whatever body wash it was that Alpha Jason
Chapter 38Alpha Jason snapped his fingers, “You’re right.” He said in sort of light bulb turning on moment even though I couldn’t think of what he could possibly be validating, “If I want to keep you busy, it shouldn’t be with such tasks. I can tell you’re intelligent. With the kind of life you had growing up, I’m sure you received the best education.”I raised a brow, “What does that have to do with anything? Want to sell me to another pack for my brains?”He rolled his eyes, massaging his temples after giving me a ‘why do you have to be so stupid?’ look, “You’re so extra for no reason.” He said simply. “You can be my personal assistant or something. Do some paperwork, write correspondence… What do you think?”I shrugged, “I know it doesn’t really matter what I think. I’m your servant and you’re my master, my work is to do whatever you tell me to do.”Alpha Jason squeezed his eyes shut as though frustrated, “I do care what you think, Amber.” He said in an equally frustrated voice. “
Chapter 39After the lunch I hat to take our plates back to the kitchen. The food was delicious and when my stubborness wore out, I allowed myself to enjoy it to the fullest. I just wish I would be able to boast of such cooking skills one day. The Alpha must have forgotten about his ban on knives for me so I could resume my cooking lessons with Stella.Speaking of Stella, she stared at the plates in my hands with a frowm but said nothing. She had to have known I ate the first lunch she prepared for the Alpha. Was she angry? If anything, she looked worried and I wondered why. Until I left the kitchen. It was like the entire staff of the palace had come to watch a spectacle. The spectacle I learned in just a couple seconds that was me. Everyone was staring a me. Everyone was pointing fingers and whispering. Although I had half expected it, it didn’t make it any easy to face. They were saying all manner of things. Some information they had no business knowing, they were spewing from the
Chapter 40We walked in a silence that soon bored me, but not Alpha Jason, it seemed because his forehead was wrinkled and his lips were in a tiny, nearly noticeable pout that I doubt he even knew he was making. He was thinking about something, something worrying. My gaze continued to follow him, tracing the outline of his face, the sharpness of his jaw and perfection in his cheekbones. I noted the way he walked and how he absentmindedly cracked each finger with his thumb. He did it frequently even when there was no more pop sound and I realized it was a mannerism. He was shirtless and no, I wasn’t just noticing it. He had been shirtless since he brought me out of the water and that fact had almost succeeded in distracting me, like it always did. My eyes had flickered to his chest once or twice just as they were doing now when I had been yelling at him. I could only be grateful that the slight distraction hadn’t thrown me off.I thought about the words we had thrown at each other, sp
Chapter 41AmberI woke up slowly, my senses waking before my body. I felt the soft sheets around me and hummed; it felt like I was sleeping on clouds. I moved around on the cloud, extending my arms as I stretched feeling my joints protest in pain that wasn’t usually there. My mouth fell open on its own accord and let out a yawn big enough to swallow the entire room.Room. Where was I? Because this didn’t feel like the rusty, crusty old room I had become accustomed to but yet it felt familiar, I thought as I began to open my eyes. My first attempt had me shutting them back immediately as a reflex response to the blinding light coming from the windows. Opening them again, more slowly this time, I recognized where I was and last night slowly came back to me.Falling into the water, Alpha Jason saving me, getting into an argument with Alpha Jason, walking beside him back to the palace and allowing myself to think him handsome and of course, falling asleep in his bathrobe after being com
