Chapter 40

We walked in a silence that soon bored me, but not Alpha Jason, it seemed because his forehead was wrinkled and his lips were in a tiny, nearly noticeable pout that I doubt he even knew he was making. He was thinking about something, something worrying.

My gaze continued to follow him, tracing the outline of his face, the sharpness of his jaw and perfection in his cheekbones. I noted the way he walked and how he absentmindedly cracked each finger with his thumb. He did it frequently even when there was no more pop sound and I realized it was a mannerism.

He was shirtless and no, I wasn’t just noticing it. He had been shirtless since he brought me out of the water and that fact had almost succeeded in distracting me, like it always did. My eyes had flickered to his chest once or twice just as they were doing now when I had been yelling at him. I could only be grateful that the slight distraction hadn’t thrown me off.
