Malachi had refused any of us to lift a finger towards dinner for Franklin and Alexander and instead had gotten take-out Chinese. I wasn’t about to let Adara cook either because she wasn’t gaining enough weight and she was still paler than she should be.Franklin and Alexander’s car stopped in the driveway exactly two minutes before seven and we listened to the car doors close. Malachi sat behind his desk and looked at the few pens that still remained on the floor. The truth had been staring at him for two days now and it was time to act. “What was the plan, Mia?” Malachi’s voice was calm now and that scared her more than his anger had. “You come back to town under the guise of my wife’s death? What then, Mia? I left Malachi’s room seconds after he walked into the bathroom. I had to act quickly. I rapped my knuckles on James' door once and waited for him to open it.“It’s late ..” The look on my face forced his silence.“We need to go, now.” James nodded and closed his door.Once inside my own room I changed into jeans and sneakers and kissed a sleeping Adara on her cheek. I sent her a text so she wouldn’t worry when she woke up and found me gone. James grinned at me and I had to smile. The officers were struggling to get in between the two of us and I got in one more punch to James' jaw before the officer jumped in front of me, his gun raised. The other officer had his gun on James.“Now listen to me carefully boys, on your knees slowly.” We complied, and I placed my hands behind my head and got down on my knees.“Do either one of you want to tell me what the hell is going on here?” he asked out of breath.“He started it!” James yelled angrily.I laughed at him and James pretended that he wanted to get up again. We had spent hours in Malachi’s study discussing what possible due cause they could have. Neither of them were involved with the pack, neither of them had suffered any losses like we had. Christian had more due cause than they had. We couldn’t come up with a plausible answer to how they would swing this in their favor and we gave up after a few hours.The knock on our door came at six p.m., just as we finished dinner.
