Part Eighty-Four

Even before the large door was opened I could hear the lively music being played. Karis told us that it was called Sega and native to Mauritius. The music was a genre fusion of Seggae and Bhojpuri and sung in Creole. It was an interesting mix of drumbeats and rattle sounds.

My eyes scanned the room instinctively and the man that rose to his feet was – I assumed – the Alpha, Teeven. Another man followed him and I concluded that he must be the Beta of the pack. The women at the table remained seated and another table not too far from the Alpha table were occupied by children.

Teeven was tall, like a typical Alpha, broad shouldered but with graying hair. His face was lined and his eyes exuded a calm wisdom. He wasn’t that fit anymore and I could see that he had gotten comfortable and lax, which was probably why his son was a problem.
