Alexandra could barely hear the words over the phone, probably because the overwhelming sadness she was feeling drowned them out. In just one day, it felt as though the world had turned its back on her.
Her sister got sick mysteriously, her boyfriend cheated on her with her best friend, she got duped by her father, and now she was owing a shit-ton of debt that she couldn’t even pay up even in her dreams. It was all too much for her. She didn’t even have time to grieve for her sister or process the end of her relationship. Everything was happening too fast, and she couldn’t keep up. A knock on the door broke her thoughts. She sniffed, wiping her nose. It was probably that rich guy from earlier. He’d asked for her address, and she was too heartbroken to question it. She gave it to him anyway. When she opened the door, she was met with a pair of dark, smoldering eyes that seemed to peer right into her soul. She quickly turned her gaze away as she opened the door wider to let him in. He wasn’t alone. A taller man, one of the men who had approached her that night—Dario, or so she thought—stood beside him. “Um, you look terrible,” Arthur noticed as he drew nearer to her; instinctively, she hid her face with her hair. “And your place is way smaller than I imagined...” he trailed off, noticing that every single piece of furniture was in ruins. “What happened here?” “I need your help,” she said desperately, suddenly grabbing his arm. Arthur’s eyes followed her quick movement, and Dario was about to stop her but hesitated. Arthur didn’t like being touched, yet surprisingly, he didn’t pull away. “I’ll do anything you want. I’ll beg you, just like you want. Please, let me marry you.” Her voice cracked, and she dropped her gaze, too embarrassed to meet his eyes. “I didn’t think I’d need money this urgently, and it was wrong of me to turn down your offer without thinking it through. Please forgive me.” Arthur chuckled softly. The proposal sounded strange coming from her, but it was in a way that could almost be considered cute. He gently cupped her chin, tilting her face upward. Her red hair cascaded in waves around her delicate features—features that no longer looked delicate, because it had bruises and blood Arthur's eyes narrowed as he regarded the injury as if it were an abomination. He softly brushed her hair away from her face to get a clearer look. “Who did this?” he asked, his tone shifting. He ran a finger across the broken skin of her lips, and she hissed in pain. The blood was still fresh, and a strange emotion stirred within him, one he couldn’t quite identify or understand. He felt a sudden stiff anger coursing through his veins; the more he looked at her bruised face, the angrier he got. With this much anger, he felt as though he could tear down a building with his fist. “I asked you—who did this?” His voice was more demanding now. “L-Loan sharks…” she whispered, her breath catching as her eyes welled up again, unable to hold back the tears under Arthur’s penetrating gaze. “Did you take out a loan from them and refuse to pay?” he asked, his voice colder. “No,” she muttered, shaking her head. “My father did. And now they’re looking everywhere for him. If they can’t find him... then I’ll be—” He interrupted her, “Your father took out a loan from them, refused to pay, and they came here looking for him, found you, and did this?” He needed confirmation, and she nodded. “They must have given you the contract, the one with their details. Did they?” She nodded quickly, remembering the small piece of paper the scarred man had thrown in her face before leaving. “Boss, I think this is it,” Dario’s voice cut through the tension as he returned with the paper. He handed it to Arthur, who scanned it, his lips curling into a small, satisfied smirk. “Blood Fang Credit Group? And the CEO is Viktor Rossi?” Arthur muttered to himself, his fingers quickly typing on his phone. “Are you going to pay? Just like that?” she asked, her eyes wide with confusion. She felt as if she should explain more, but all Arthur seemed focused on was his phone. No,” he answered, his voice shattering the little fantasy she had created in her head. “I’m making sure Blood Fang Credit Group gets shut down, and Viktor Rossi will never be able to establish anything anywhere in this country for as long as he lives. Both his name and his business will be blacklisted.” Her eyes widened in shock. He wasn’t just paying them off—he was going to bring the entire company down. “B-But why?” she stammered in confusion. “No one,” He declared, his voice even more precise “No one has the right to touch what belongs to me. And that bastard did more than just touch.”The impatient man had left without giving her any proper explanation, but he seemed angry, she couldn’t tell what had made him angry. She had called him to ask if his offer still stood, so they could finalize their wedding arrangements and agreement, and most importantly so he could give her the money he promised her.But he was more concerned about the conman who had beaten her up than their initial conversation, he left in a hurry as soon as he got the name of the company.“I belonged to him?” She repeated his final statement, this time out loud, and a small blush crept to her cheeks. She shrugged her shoulders, she leaned in the mirror, applying a healing balm to the small wound at the end of her lips. Her green eyes examining her face, she then concluded that the wound wasn’t so obvious, as long as they were far from her. She sucks in a deep breath, feeling a deep sense of regret, she had let her emotions get the best of her last night, crying so loudly and miserably in front o
“The doctor just told me that I paid for my sister’s medication, and that’s the reason I called you, I didn’t know you were coming here.” She said with a small frown on her face as she walked with him to the other end of the ward. “How did you get the details? I never gave them to you.”“It’s not that hard finding it,” Arthur confessed. “I am one of the shareholders in this particular hospital; my cousin is the director of this hospital.”Alexandra nodded slowly.“Thank you,” she answered with a little bit of hesitation, her eyes raising to meet his smoldering gaze. “I keep seeing you in the hospital; I want to ask if you are also sick.”“No,” he slipped his hands in his pocket. “I am here for my grandmother; she has a heart condition and is under admission. I initially didn’t plan to come here today, but she got worse overnight.”“Oh, I am sorry to hear that,” pulling her hair behind her ears. “How is she doing now?”“I guess I have to go and see her first,” he answered, and she felt
“So, let's discuss the terms of the contract.” Arthur said as he passed the file towards Alexandra that was sitting across him, Dario, his assistant, stood beside him watching the pair relate to each other. With shaky hands, she picked the file and her eyes scanned through the paper. Contract term was 3 months, and he was… Arthur Smith? Wait… Arthur Smith, the name seemed familiar, she paused for a while as she racked her brain, trying to recall where she had heard the name. She glanced up at him with wide eyes, the recognition finally dawning. She had seen his images a few times on magazines. “You're Arthur Smith?” She questioned unbelievably. “Yes.” He answered a little bit cold. “Do you have any problem with that?”She shook her head, feeling a little more intense because she didn't know the person she would be getting married to would be a man who was known as the country's richest heartbreaker.Being a billionaire playboy, born into riches and then he was able to si
"So, like I said in our previous discussion, my grandmother is the reason I am getting married.” He explained, and Alexandra nodded her head, watching Dario maneuver the car on their way to the hospital. “She is the only family I have left and she has a heart condition, and we got into a small misunderstanding a few days back.” “Why?” She suddenly blurted Arthur took in a deep breath. “My grandmother is a traditional woman, and she believes in the importance of family and more than anything, she wished for me to have a wife and if possible children,” he explained further. “Even though she claimed they were not as important yet, she also wishes to see her grandchildren before she passes away. But I had always turned away from that responsibility. She got fed up one day and then we argued. I guess there was something I said that triggered her condition and she passed out, that was how I ended up in the hospital.”“I am sorry to hear that,” Alexandra muttered, but her eyes peered even
Luke paced around his office, with a tight expression on his face. This was the first time, Alexandra had done this. She wasn’t the type of person to completely shut him out.He had tried to call her countless times but she wasn't just answering. Even when he had lost all control and hit her to the point she passed out. She always came back whenever he begs her and tells her he was sorry and he didn't mean it. Now, she was nowhere to be found. He couldn’t even reach her…“I told you to find her.” He growled at his secretary. She never took him to her home during their period of dating, she always prefer to meet outside. She never gave him a reason, and he only met her sister once. The girl wasn't interested in meeting him, and so they never got along. “I swear to God if I find you I'm going to kill you, Alexis.” He growled out loud. He probably need to find Arianna, if he pressed her enough, she might tell him where to find her. “Arianna I need to talk to you.” He
“What's that supposed to mean?” Luke asked as he grabbed Alexandra's fingers, staring at the ring and confirming it authencity. “You got engaged??” “Yes I did.” She answered confidently, pushing him away. “So don't come here barging into my house like you're something.”“Babe, it hasn't even been a week! Since the misunderstanding. How can you get engaged so fast?” He queried the disbelief in his eyes was plausible. “It's not possible. You only borrowed that ring so you can lie to me.” “Believe whatever you may, I would love to invite you to the wedding but all the invitation has been given.” She mocked. “So, if you would please leave my house. I don't want my husband to think I'm cheating on him with someone who is less of a man.” He fumed in anger again, raising his hands as if to strike her but her words stopped his intentions midway.“I dare you to hit me again, like the coward you are.” She snarled at her, her wicked glare judging him. “This time I won't hold back.” “I will m
Pain exploded throughout Alexandra’s body after she had gotten into an argument with her soon-to-be ex-boyfriend, Luke, last night, he had broken their rule of not being violent. To hide her black eye, she wore dark-rimmed glasses, typing furiously despite the throbbing ache in her fingers, she needed to submit the report before the day ended. Luke had claimed it was a mistake again and had been calling, texting, and begging for another chance. This was the thousandth one she had given and she was fed up, she jolted again when her phone suddenly rang, she shot a detective glance at the phone and her glare softened when she realized that the number calling wasn’t Luke but her sister. “Aria, I’m a bit busy right now if only—” She was interrupted immediately, by a voice that didn’t belong to her sister. “Alexa, this is Mariah.” She introduced in a rather nasal voice that left Alexandra feeling unsettled, her eyebrows furrowed together in concern, she knew who Mariah was, bu
“What the fuck is going on here?” Alexandra demanded, the ill feeling of betrayal clogged her throat, as tears spilled from her eyes. “Lexi, I-I, My love…” Luke hurriedly disengaged from his lover and struggled to hide his nakedness under the sheets. “I thought you were mad at me and you weren’t coming.”“Oh, here I am, asshole.” She snapped in anger.“Baby, please,” Luke picked up his boxers and put them on, meanwhile his mistress hid her face in embarrassment.“Don’t you dare baby me,” She snapped in response. “I asked you a fucking question, what the hell is going on here?”“Adrianna?” betrayal evident as she called for her friend. “I can’t believe you would do this to me.”Adrianna fell silent, she hid her face away from her friend in shame, “It’s not my fault that Luke chose me.”“What are you talking about?” Luke growled at her. “Alexa please,” He tried to reach for her but she stepped away from him. “I would never trade anyone over you.”“Oh really? You think I’m st

“Boss, are you really letting her go?” Dario asked as Alexandra stormed away from the car, slamming the door behind her, but Arthur simply shrugged, leaning back as the men returned to the car.All except Dario, who lingered, his instincts urging him to drag her back.“She’ll come back,” Arthur said, his tone calm as he wound up the car window. A faint smirk played on his lips. “Those are the eyes of a desperate but proud woman, once her pride subsides she will come back.”“But, Boss…” Dario’s concern was evident. He knew Arthur better than anyone else. On the surface, his boss seemed unaffected—cool and indifferent—but Dario knew the rejection was a bruise to his ego. This was the first time a woman had turned Arthur down.It was a new experience for him; women usually flocked to Arthur, throwing themselves at him without hesitation. “I told you to keep me updated!” Bethany snapped, prompting Alexandra to pull the phone away from her ear momentarily. “I’ve been worried sick all night.”“I’m sorry,” Alexandra apologized, stepping into the building. “I’ve been trying to source some money. The doctor is asking for three million.”“What?” Bethany gasped, her voice rising in alarm.“That’s not even the cost of the surgery,” Alexandra added bitterly. “It’s just to find a donor.”“What are you going to do?” Bethany’s voice wavered. “I know you don’t have that kind of money.”“I don’t know, Beth,” Alexandra admitted, running a hand through her fiery red hair. “But I’ve managed to save five hundred thousand. I’m at the bank now to deposit it at the hospital. I’ll figure out the rest somehow.”“Don’t tell me...” Bethany trailed off, already guessing, and Alexandra nodded grimly.“Yes, it’s everything I’ve saved,” Alexandra confirmed. Bethany knew just how hard she had worked to save that money. Alexandra had been planning t
