Nerthus I jerk up panicky, blinking into the dark as Arawn’s strong hands hold my arms soothingly, making me calm down right away. “I’m sorry. I didn’t want to startle you,” he whispers. “Are you alright?” He seems to be able to look right into my soul as he lays his hand on my cheek, disintegrating the uncomfortable pins that Francis left on my skin. “Yes,” I whisper back, leaning into his touch as I get onto my knees to feel him closer. I can’t even remember how I got into bed, and I still seem to be fully clothed which is stupid as it will make him sense that something is wrong right away. “You didn’t pick up your phone. You know that I don’t like that,” he murmurs gently as he gets my jacket off me. “Are you sure that you are feeling alright?” I nod, stretching my arms into the air to help him slip my pullover off. “I was just so tired that I crashed right away. I’m sorry that I didn’t answer your calls.” “Don’t worry,” he says, studying my face. “It’s good that you slept
Nerthus “I was still eating,” I say, crossing my legs at my ankles as I stand before him. Arawn is leaning against his limousine, a cigarette between his fingers. “You stopped eating days ago.” “What is that supposed to mean?” I ask, playing dumb. He scoffs, pushing himself off his car as he steps closer to me. “It’s been days that you have been acting strangely. You don’t eat, you cry for entire nights, and when you finally manage to fall asleep you have a nightmare which tears us both out of our sleep.” “You don’t have to keep sharing a bed with me if I’m bothering you like this.” I lower my gaze, biting my bottom lip. “That’s not what I was aiming to say, Nerthus,” he leans into me, his warm breath fanning my cheek. “But I’m not an idiot. There is something stressing you out and I can read you like an open book. So, what is it?” I turn my head away, shaking myself in the hopes of getting rid of the goosebumps he made rise on my skin. “What if there is someone else?” “Bullsh
Arawn Amber: I’d love nothing more. I’m staring at the words on my screen as I sit in her dark and cold apartment. After hours of waiting, I ended up opening the bottle of wine to myself, which was a bad idea, seeing how pissed I already was sober. “What?” I answer Dario’s call in an annoyed tone before taking another swing from the bottle. “She was last seen at the airport, boss. Apparently, she was with a man. But we lost her traces there,” Dario informs me, and I groan. Perfect, right as I thought I would get a few guards off her back to make her BREATHE, she goes on a little trip with her boyfriend. How much more idiotic can I even get? “And?” I ask, sensing through the phone how fidgety Dario is. “We could get our hands on security cameras. It seems like they took a private plane.” I laugh, taking another sip. “Didn’t take her long to get another bit of luxury.” “We will send you the pictures right away, and we will interrogate the men at the hangars to find out where
Nerthus “And we have a real gem over here. Beautiful Ms. Amber Flannings.” The man welcomes me on the stage with a big smile and I take the hand that he is offering me to get up the steps onto a little pedestal elegantly. I’ve always known how to present myself. Standing there in a flimsy short dress, my light blue underwear shimmering through, I prop up one of my arms to my side. I try my best to smile through the bids that start going as soon as I get up on the stage and the host has my CV on display. The host can barely follow them and the uncomfortable feeling in my stomach grows. I did my best to hide it from Arawn because I didn’t want him to get involved with my issues with my family and I would do anything to keep him and Danny safe. As I was preparing myself for this auction, I tried to convince myself that I could just get up here, get my cousin his money, spend the night with the one who bought me and get back to my life again. Maybe he could forgive me. Maybe Go
Nerthus The man who steered me down here pushes me rather briskly, getting me to stumble into the dark room. Panic bubbles up my chest as they close the heavy door behind me, and I push down the urge to scream as darkness envelops me.Feeling another presence in the room, I take a deep breath, waiting for my eyes to adjust to the dark. A narrow window must be placed rather high up the wall on my left side, as a feeble stream of moonlight gets into the room, enlightening my surroundings lightly. I still can’t make out most of it and I hate it. A few months ago, I would have been flirty with the man waiting before me, but I’m in no mood to please him. My buyer is sitting in a chair, his knees apart and his arms leisurely on the armrests. I literally jump as he speaks for the first time. He has a strange accent which I cannot grasp and his voice has something soothing and yet very disturbing. There is something wrong with it. “What are you doing? Are you waiting for some kind o
Nerthus As I open my eyes, sunbeams are already streaming in from the narrow window up the wall. Due to the powerful sunbeams, I can finally make out some more details in the room. More than the wide bed, there is a leather armchair and a small round table in the room. I find myself asking about what such a room would be designed for. Arawn is lying on his front, hugging his pillow as he sleeps next to me peacefully, while is broad and muscular back is heaving lightly. How can a person alone hold so much beauty? I bite my bottom lip as I raise my hand carefully and touch his face with my fingertips before moving my hand through his hair gently. He smiles in his sleep and my heart skips a beat, fearing that he will catch me. Loving the feeling of his hair between my fingers, I continue to caress him gently. My heart flips as I stop moving and he groans. “Please, don’t stop. It feels good.” I start moving again and soon enough, his soft snores signal me that he fell back asleep
Nerthus Loosening the the colorful ribbons around the small box, I gasp as I unpack a brand-new phone. “I couldn’t recover yours.” Activating the screen, I find a selfie of Danny with Arawn on the lock screen and happy tears well up in my eyes. “As he woke up, the first thing he did was ask for you,” Arawn mumbles as I’m still staring at the screen. “He wanted to take a picture right away, so you could have one of us while you were on your trip with your friend.” “Is that what you have told him?” I ask, my heart hurting too much to reciprocate his gaze. “That I’m on a fun trip?” “Sure, everything else would have broken his heart.” “I’m so sorry,” I whisper, looking up at him. “Please forgive me.” He studies my face, his eyes not holding as much anger as he would be entitled to feel. “It’s not me you should ask for forgiveness because of this.” “Still,” I say, lowering my gaze. “I shouldn’t have made you so much trouble.” “We will talk about this afterwards,” he snarls
Nerthus He literally left me sitting on pins and needles. I tried to distract myself by reading, talking with some of the staff, baking with Concetta, and speaking with Danny on the phone. But I got so emotional because of that phone call and so, by the time he gets back home, I’m pissed. I’m not used to waiting for anybody that just walked out on me. Maybe a few years ago I would have spent the day crying on the floor but I guess the last years spoiled me. As he walks in on me trying to concentrate on a book in yet another library, I get even angry at myself as I’m practically drooling at him wearing a black suit and a matching shirt. God, get a grip. “Nerthus.” I push down the urge to have my eyes jump to his as he calls my name, but I just keep my head low and buried in the book before me. “You have so many rooms here. What do you do with all this space?” I ask with an unbothered tone, turning a page. “I want to build a harem,” he responds coldly. As my eyes snap up to hi
