The Next Morning

Mabel woke up before Liam. Quietly grabbing her things, she glanced at Liam, who was still asleep on the floor. Slipping out of the apartment, she winced, holding her head.

“Damn this hangover,” she mumbled as she hailed a cab.

In the breakfast room, Violet walked in, her presence commanding.

“Good morning,” she greeted.

“Good morning,” Sean replied, looking up from the newspaper he was reading.

“I just spoke to Mr. Rock on the phone,” Sean began. “The court hearing seems to be favoring us.”

“I know,” Violet said as she took her seat. “I visited Mom this morning.”

“Where is everyone?” Violet asked.

Sean set the newspaper down “Well, Riele is out of the country handling some business matters,” Sean explained. “That leaves us with Mabel.”

“Lewis!” Violet called out to the butler.

“Yes, ma’am?”

“Go get Mabel.”

The butler hesitated. “Ma’am, if I may, Mabel did not return home last night.”

Just as he spoke, Mabel walked in.

“Good morning,”
