CHAPTER 3: The Protector

‘Where am I?’ Maddie thought. She then opened her eyes but she still felt so light-headed. ‘Who is he? He looks so alluring. Is he the one for me?’ Maddie thought while mesmerized by Kenji's handsome face. They were looking into each other’s eyes.

‘I want him.’ Maddie thought and then grabbed Kenji’s jaws with her two hands. She then kissed him but it was just because she was still drunk and was not aware of what she was doing.

Kenji was not responding to Maddie’s kisses. He couldn’t even move. But then Maddie stopped the kiss and looked into Kenji’s eyes again. While holding Kenji’s face in her hands, Maddie smiled at him with her drunken face.

“You are so handsome, I want…” She muttered but she passed out again and collapsed in the bed. Kenji was so speechless and couldn’t even blink. He moved backward and stood up next to the bed. He slowly touched his lips with his two fingers.

“That was my first kiss..” Kenji mumbled to himself. But then he closed his eyes and shook his head. “No, no. In the future, we might do more than that, I should deceive her right?” He said to himself while so flustered.

Kenji stepped out of the room and brought some food and drinks. He got back right away and cooked his dinner. He drank some beer, sat on the couch, and watched Maddie’s face as she was sleeping.

‘In this case, this girl is easily deceived. I won’t have any problems though. I will kill you in an instant. Just fall in love with me and give me your heart.’ Kenji thought while observing her. Kenji was already imagining that he would return to the Werewolf Kingdom and make his father proud. For the past years, Kenji did intense training. He also became cold as ice and can kill anyone. He really changed from an innocent, lazy, and bubbly werewolf into a tough, cold, and hard-as-a-rock werewolf guy.

He then remembered someone. It was an incident 15 years ago in human years. ‘I wonder where that little kid is, the reason I have to kill this celebrity woman.’ Kenji thought. He recalled what happened on how he saved a little young girl from dying. ‘I hate that kid, because of her, I suffered a lot. But, I think, I could not blame that kid; she was too young to die. She deserves to live. But I must live too.’’ He then smirked again. “I will do whatever it takes to live and redeem myself.” Kenji mumbled to himself.

But then, Maddie was sweating so hard. It seemed like she was having a hard time breathing.

Inside her dream:

“Mom and Dad?”

“Denise! Run!” Her mom screamed and then her head was crushed by that werewolf. 

‘Huh? Why am I seeing this scene again? I want to save them!’ Maddie thought. She then ran away but the werewolf jumped in front of her and stopped her from running. Her eyes widened and then she was killed by the werewolf instantly.

‘I can’t breathe! How can I escape from this dream? Is this even a dream or reality?’

Maddie was having a nightmare and she was sweating like a pig. Kenji noticed that and then teleported next to her. “What’s happening to you? Hey!” He tried waking her up. Maddie’s eyes opened and then she looked at Kenji, standing next to her. “Please help me. Please protect me.” Maddie uttered. She then shed a tear and fell asleep again. Kenji assumed that she’s okay now.

Kenji touched Maddie’s forehead. “She has a fever.” Kenji concluded. He then removed his shirt and also removed Maddie’s coat. ‘As a werewolf, we can do this so that any creature can feel better. I will share with her my body’s warmth and she shall be feeling well tomorrow morning.’

Kenji then went on Maddie’s top and pressed his body to Maddie’s. Maddie was still wearing her clothes, it was just the coat that was removed from her. Kenji’s head was facing the pillow and then faced sidewards to breathe but not facing Maddie’s face. “I am just doing this because I will deceive you.” He said.

Kenji shared his body’s warmth and energy with Maddie. And it was really effective because Maddie’s temperature was going down.  Kenji got so tired he then rolled his body next to Maddie and just collapsed there, lying down next to Maddie.

The next day, Maddie opened her eyes, lifted her upper body, and stretched her arms. “I am feeling so energetic now and I don’t know why!” She said happily but then she noticed that Kenji was sleeping next to her, topless.

‘Who is this?’ She thought. Maddie then looked around and realized that she was not in the penthouse. ‘Where am I? This is a high-class hotel.’ She then looked again at Kenji.

“And I am with a guy?” She was wondering why. She immediately checked her body but she was still wearing clothes.

‘So, nothing happened, right?’ She thought. But then she bent over and checked Kenji’s face. “This guy looks hot huh but..” She mumbled. Then Kenji opened his eyes and glared at Maddie. Maddie was startled and screamed. “Aah!” She then got off the bed and threw a pillow at Kenji.

“Who are you? Why am I with you?” Maddie asked.

Kenji scratched his eyes with his two hands and then looked at Maddie. “I helped you last night from the two gangsters.”

Maddie suddenly remembered what happened to her at the Eiffel Tower Park. ‘Oh, so he was the one who protected me last night? No, probably he is one of them!’ Maddie thought.

Maddie shook her head. “No, you are one of them! You look like a gangster! I will call the police!” Maddie grabbed her phone but Kenji immediately ran and then grabbed Maddie’s phone. Maddie’s eyes widened. “Huh? She gaped.

Kenji then held Maddie’s phone and stood in front of her. “I was the one who helped you out. If I am one of them, you are supposedly dead now, right?” Kenji smirked at Maddie. Kenji was trying to convince Maddie and act as a hero.

‘He got a point but I don’t want to trust him easily. All of the guys are pathetic liars!’ Maddie thought.

Kenji moved closer to Maddie’s face. “Don’t worry, Maddie. I will protect you until the end.” Kenji said in his soft voice and smiled at her.

Maddie’s eyes widened.
