Chapter 22Augustus's POV My body stiffened when I heard what Lucia had just said. I definitely had not wanted her to find out the way she did, the chaotic beginning of our love and hate story. “What did she just say?” Olivia asked, her voice shaky and confused. “She's lying. Don, believe a word that comes out of her mouth. She is just jealous” I said and stepped away from Lucia, her body dropping to the floor. She held her chest and coughed violently, the unpleasant sound was drowned out by the chaos in my soul, each step threatening to be my last. “She can't be saying the truth, right?” Olivia asked, looking genuinely confused. “Guards!” I barked, and two men rushed in, “take her away. Throw her in the dungeons until I decide what I want to do with her” I ordered, and the men bowed, prepared to carry out my order. “You can't do this to me! You are throwing me in the dungeon because of her? This nobody? You are going to regret this! I will make sure of it” Lucia threatened as
Chapter 23Olivia's POV As soon as I managed to get Augustus out of my room, I slipped on the floor and wept. My emotions were everywhere and even though I badly wanted to run away, I knew that it was time for me to grow some spine and do what was right. The moon was shining brightly, and my eyes darted everywhere on the ceiling since I couldn't sleep. I wished I had not sent Augustus away and asked him to stay, but even I knew that I was a fraud and would not be able to see him reject me, once he found out that I was weak and not the woman he thought me to me.Finally, exhaustion overtook me and I slept. It was short and not restful, awake before I even knew it. The soft but persistent knocking on my door, refusing to stop. I rubbed my eyes and went to the door, throwing it open after locking it behind Augustus last night. “Good Morning Your Royal Majesty” Tina greeted me warmly, bowing her head slowly. “Good morning Tina” I said and turned around, walking into the room so I coul
Chapter 24 Olivia's POV All eyes turned to me as I stepped into the council room. The men gauged me, and I could feel their eyes boring a hole into my back. I began to lose some of the confidence that I had, but even that was not enough to deter me from finishing what I had started. “You are going to do great. Keep your head up and speak like the queen you are” Alexander whispered in my ears as we made our way to where I would sit. “Councilmen, may we all rise to welcome the one that our king has chosen” one of the men announced and the rest of them stood up, except for Augustus. His eyes were fixed on me and I could see the desire burning in his eyes as he looked at me from head to toe, nearly drooling. I made up my mind to tease him about it later if we were still friends by then and if things went well at the meeting. Augustus stood up finally and the men bowed to him as he came to me and led me to my seat. His hands were warm as they held mine, which was cold and sweaty
Chapter 25 Olivia's POV I managed to stay calm until the meeting was done. I thought Augustus would be coming with me after the meeting, but he had something else to do with the councilmen, so I had to go ahead without him. Alexander was also part of the meeting, so I walked out alone by myself, willing myself not to fall in head first as my legs began to wobble at the thought of marrying a man that I didn't know so well and had a lot of mysteries surrounding his presence in my life. “How was it, Your Majesty?” Tina asked, and I noticed that she was standing at the door and had probably waited that way until I was done with my meeting. “It went well. Surprisingly. It's almost like I had been in there or in a quite similar situation before” I said to her, and she looked at me puzzled for one moment before she smiled warmly at me. “I am not surprised, I was sure they would love you, My Queen” she replied. “I was thinking of us going out to see the kingdom since everyone is b
Chapter 26 Augustus's POV “What do you mean by that?” I barked at Bennie, one of the councilmen who sat there looking at me. “No…not like that your royal majesty” he said and bowed. “All we are just saying is that, after leaving the kingdom for so long to find your mate, we were not expecting that you would come back with a woman that we can barely scent the strength of her wolf. I believe it is why Councilman Benjamin asked, Your highness” Elder Leo added. Elder Leo was one of the men that tried to make life difficult for me in the kingdom because he is the only surviving Elder from the reign of my father. He used that as an advantage to challenge me on some issues without any form of decorum and I have been indulging him. “She is the woman I have chosen and that is final” I said, and I could see the displeasure on the faces of the men. “I think that if she will be queen in seven days, we should at least know what kind of wolf she is since she has no scent or have you fi
Chapter 27 Augustus's POV “Elder Leo is certainly not happy with your decision. He was not expecting it” Alexander said to me as soon as we got to my office. “I know, it's why I didn't inform any of them. They had all prepared to meet my bride and judge her while they all sat on the terrible things they have been doing for five years” I said to Alexander, a satisfied look on my face. I knew this would put them on their toes, and they won't have time to investigate what I knew was currently an insecurity for Olivia. Only if she knew how strong and powerful she was. Telling her what I knew now would mean I have to start talking to her about everything else which meant that she would hate me. “What are you thinking about?” Alexander asked me, this was why he was my beta. He understood me before I use my words, and he could read my face better than anyone else. “I need to find Olivia and speak to her about the wedding” I said to him. “Oh, about that. You didn't mention anythi
Chapter 28 Olivia's POV “You are truly a beauty to behold” one of the pack members said to me as soon as I finished singing. The crowd had erupted in elation, but then the noise had quickly died now and when I looked up, I saw exactly why it had. Augustus. Behind him, Alexander trotted obediently, his demeanor one that would intimidate even death itself. The people bowed to him and for a brief moment, I didn't know what to do. It was the first time that his people would be seeing us together, and I could not remember anything from what Alexander taught me about handling issues like this one I had found myself in. “My Queen” he said, a smile spreading on his face as he gathered me to his chest and hugged me. My cheeks reddened in embarrassment and I gripped his shirt to hide my face in, smearing his crispy white shirt with my lipstick. “I stained your shirt” I whispered to him, not wanting him to find out on his own and get upset about it. “It doesn't matter. Everyone know
Chapter 29 Olivia's POV The drive was long and silent, with me falling asleep at some point from both exhaustion and boredom. He didn't say much to me, almost like he wasn't the same man who had spoken about me like I was the best thing in the world. I felt hurt and wondered what he was going to do with me, where we were going to. “What's on your mind?” I heard his voice cut sharply into my thoughts, I looked around the car to confirm that it was indeed me he was speaking with and not someone else, or maybe he was on a call on his phone. “I'm talking to you. Why are you looking around like that?” He asked me, looking puzzled, and I wondered if he was still not the same person who had mumbled replies to my questions and killed every attempt I made to have a conversation with him. “You should listen to yourself sometimes and watch what you do too” I snapped at him, my emotions and ego still bruised that he had treated me that way and left me guessing what he truly felt for me.
Chapter 98Olivia's POV “Oh, you thought I would not be able to find out your real identity?” He asked me when he saw how stunned I was. The food immediately lost its taste and turned to sand in my mouth. I was devastated and the only thing I wanted to do now was to run. The one thing I couldn't afford to do right now. “I…I… Am not Olivia or whatever you say her name is” I managed to say, my voice sounding alien even to me. He laughed, loudly, then got up and went to the mini bar behind his chair to pull out a bottle of raw alcohol. “You see, I had my doubts when I saw you. King Augustus has been on my radar for a while and I kept racking my brain on how to get him to notice me. When I saw you, I had my doubts but today, after seeing the way you have cleaned up nicely, I know without a doubt that you are queen Olivia of the Lycan Kingdom” he said, his voice increasing in pitch and tempo with every word. “I am not her. I am simply Freya, a young servant that was dumped by her lover
Chapter 97Olivia's POV The next time I gained consciousness, I was in a different room. My hands were no longer bound and the room had more ventilation than the previous one that I had been in. I struggled to get up, my body was weak from lack of food and the pregnancy that was tearing my insides with the need for food. Just then, there was a rustling of keys at the door and I quickly laid back down, pretending to be asleep. A middle-aged woman made her way into the room, she didn't even bother to look at me before setting the plate roughly on the floor, some of its contents spilling out of the plate. “I know you are awake, I saw you when you were running back to lie down on your bed. You better wake up and eat, the Alpha would soon send for you” she said and left the room before I could get a word out. Her words had stunned me, I laid there for some time before the rumbling of my stomach pushed me from the bed. I made my way to the plate, each step making me dizzier than I was.
Chapter 96Augustus's POV I couldn't shake off the gnawing feeling in my chest that something had happened to Olivia. Every moment had me feeling guilty, and I could have sworn that I heard her calling out to me this morning in my sleep. Ever since she left, which was now exactly 24 hours ago, I had imagined hearing her call me or her sweet scent welcoming me back to our chambers after a long day out there. My life felt empty, and I wished that I had not said anything to her about Ariel, instead, I had just told her the truth. “Your Majesty, you sent for me?” Elana said, I had not let her have a moment of rest since yesterday, she had done all she could to link with Olivia, but she was too far, beyond our reach. “Have you had any luck yet?” I asked, even though I already knew what the answer would be. “Not yet your majesty” she said and even though I already knew what the answer would be, my heart broke into a thousand pieces for the umpteenth time that day. “Fine.” I said grumpi
Chapter 95Olivia's POV I moved as fast as my legs could carry me. Augustus did not want me close to him anymore and even though it was what I wanted, I felt sorely disappointed. I wished that he had begged for me to stay, instead he told me the truth that I was still finding it hard to believe. The forest was dense as I made my way through, I did not want anything that would attract attention to me, considering the fact that everyone now knew that I was an Ace wolf. Everything beside me felt like it had life and every movement like it was targeted at me. “Strange woman, you shouldn't be out in the dark by this time.” I heard a voice behind me in the darkness and jumped, screaming as loud as my voice could, “it's okay” the voice continued, and I could make it out to be a man's voice. “Who are you?” I barked, throwing in all the courage that I had left. It was just getting dark and after walking this way all day, I had very little strength left to act tough. There was a soft rustl
Chapter 94 Augustus's POV I wanted to go to her. It was the only thing left to do, but I knew that she was safer far away from here. I had no ideas yet who was responsible for the murder of my ally, and now I was losing the one person that has been keeping me sane. “My king!” I heard Elana's desperate voice calling out to me as it got closer to the door of my office. I was up and ready by the time she got to my door, immediately I let her in and gave her a glass of cold orange juice. “What happened?” I asked, my heart flying to my mouth as I hoped that nothing had gone wrong. “I can't find Olivia anywhere. She is missing my king. I have looked for her everywhere” Elana said, her eyes carrying an unknown fear of the horrors that was probably running through her mind. “Are you sure you have checked everywhere?” I asked her. “Didn't you both sleep together?” She asked me, her eyes now filled with shock. “We do sleep together, just that last night was a tough one for us and
Chapter 93Olivia's POV I was angry with myself. Angry for even softening for him in the first place, I knew the reason for that was because of Alexander's death, one I feared would affect him too much. I cursed myself under my breath, I wasn't supposed to be feeling this way. I hated him now, he had taken everything away from me and I could have sworn that I could not stand the very sight of him. “Take it easy, I could feel your rage all the way from my room” I heard Elana's voice in my ears as I tried to take in the warm garden air. It didn't help, I only felt worse because I knew that this familiar scent was going to be a thing of the past for me once I left. “I'm leaving. He doesn't even want me here. I know he wants his former mate. He has only been pretending” I said sadly and continued packing my bags. “I'll get ready so we can leave together” Elana said, but I noticed the hinge of sadness in her voice. This wasn't what she wanted and I knew. I knew deep down that the only
Chapter 92Augustus's POV My mind was in chaos. I had over a million thoughts running through my mind, most of them being questions that I had not figured out the answers too. My body felt hot, and each minute haunted me with the memories that I had shared with Alexander in this place. “That went well” Olivia said, her calm voice cutting into the chaos in my mind and bringing me peace. I walked to the window, the alcohol bottle clasped tightly in my hands. “I am going to find whoever did this, and I am going to make sure that they pay the ultimate price for it. Alexander can't be dead like that. The guards, no one knew. He died alone” I said, and I closed my eyes, pulling up a mental image of him dying alone and going through the worst pain possible. It was not a pretty sight. “What do you want to do?” She asked me and I turned to her. Olivia had chosen to stay back and help me with this pain, a part of me was grateful, but I needed to make the best decision now. The witches had
Chapter 91Olivia's POV Somehow, we managed to disperse the crowd. The news of my identity was the raging topic on the lips of everybody. Not Alexander. I felt funny, I couldn't believe that Alexander was truly dead, there was a part of me that the information did not just settle in. “I can't believe he is gone. He was the closest to me, and he had made so many sacrifices to ensure that he served me in every lifetime” Augustus's sad voice filtered through my head. “What happened? Who could have done such a thing?” I asked no one in particular because I knew how we all felt about what had happened. The words of Elana filtered into my memory, she had mentioned feeling that something bad was going to happen. And now, something bad has indeed happened. I wanted to ask her more, but Augustus was in no state to be left alone. “Someone is working against me. I think Ariel has taken over another person in the palace. She has to be the one who can do such a terrible thing” he said and pun
Chapter 90Olivia's POV “You don't have to be so harsh on him. This thing happened a long time ago, and you can't compare the man he was to the man he is now” Elana said, much to my annoyance. “Am I getting the feeling that you would rather prefer that I continue staying here? Is that what you are trying to do?” I asked her, not even bothering to hide the fury in my voice.“Of course not. I am on your side, all I am saying is that you have so many good things to hold on to now. You both have a baby on the way, and I am not insensitive enough to ask that you do not take some time for yourself, but it cannot be definite!” She explained and even though I saw the sense in what she was saying, I couldn't deal. “All I want to do now is to go very far away from here, and you know where I am going to. I don't want to hear any other opinion about this because my mind is fully made up” I said and sat down. “Fine. When do we leave?” Elana asked. “Tonight. We leave tonight. I am trying to se
