Chapter 29

Olivia's POV

The drive was long and silent, with me falling asleep at some point from both exhaustion and boredom. He didn't say much to me, almost like he wasn't the same man who had spoken about me like I was the best thing in the world. I felt hurt and wondered what he was going to do with me, where we were going to.

“What's on your mind?” I heard his voice cut sharply into my thoughts, I looked around the car to confirm that it was indeed me he was speaking with and not someone else, or maybe he was on a call on his phone.

“I'm talking to you. Why are you looking around like that?” He asked me, looking puzzled, and I wondered if he was still not the same person who had mumbled replies to my questions and killed every attempt I made to have a conversation with him.

“You should listen to yourself sometimes and watch what you do too” I snapped at him, my emotions and ego still bruised that he had treated me that way and left me guessing what he truly felt for me.

Chapter 30 Augustus's POV She slept all through the rest of the trip. I had not meant to touch her that way when I had gotten out of the car, in fact, I had been going to give her a piece of my mind. But something in her eyes seemed to pull me in, it was almost like she had been begging me with every pore in her to do what I did, and I felt proud that I had done it just right. The surprise I had for her would even be better now, and I could not wait for her reaction when she saw it. She snores softly, and her eyes are partially open. None of the others had done that before, they had always been tough and strong. She was the one who confused me the most, as I didn't know whether to be hard or soft with her. I eased into the gates of where I had brought her and tapped her gently. She shifted at first, and after I tapped her again, her lashes finally flew open as she tried to adjust her sight to the light. “Where are we Augustus?” She asked me, her voice groggy with sleep. “It

Chapter 31 Olivia's POV I was so elated. Nothing could have prepared me for the surprise that I had gotten even though it stirred over a million questions in my head. For now, I was just going to go with the flow and enjoy it. “How is my father?” I asked, my heart beating with anticipation as I wished I could stand in front of him right now and ask him if he was proud of me. He seemed like he would be, I was about to become the Queen of the Lycan people, the strongest and most supreme wolves. “He is fine. I'm afraid there isn't even much to say. Annalise lost her mate, he dumped her for a woman with bigger boobs. Can you imagine the irony of it?” Elana said, I thought about it and Annalise had always made fun of me because I was slightly thicker than she was. She once called me a fat pig in front of everyone in the pack on my birthday while my parents had gotten her a pony for hers. “I feel sorry for her. What about my mom? How did she take the news?” I asked, genuinely curiou

Chapter 32 Olivia's POV We drove back to the palace when it was dusk, I was famished and tired from talking all day and I wondered why Augustus had not just brought Elana to me in the palace. The atmosphere in the car was lively even though it was only Elana and I that spoke. Augustus has been quiet all day as if he had something bugging his mind, I wondered what that could be since he had been in a good mood earlier. “So you are really getting married?” Elana asked me, her face filled with disbelief. She couldn't seem to believe how much I had matured in the last few months, and it still shocked her. “I am! I'm glad I finally have someone from my own side over here. Thank you, Augustus” I said and he nodded his head courteously. “How were you able to find her? How did you even know about her?” I asked him, hoping to get him to say something. “It's my little secret” he said and smiled at me. We were probably the only three that had ever seen him smile, seeing his lips spr

Chapter 33 Augustus's POV “Did you set the men on the trail?” I asked Alexander as he sat opposite me in my office. “Yes your majesty, I did everything as we planned” he replied calmly. I narrowed my eyes at him as he didn't look too bright, whenever he looked like this, it could only mean one thing, I had done something that he didn't find pleasing. I knew Alexander like the back of my palm and nothing got past me when it came to him. “What is it, Alexander? Do you have something on your mind that you want to say?” I asked him, and he looked at me, the shock evident in his face that I had been able to read him. “Nothing your highness” he answered. “I'm sure your face is in this position because of nothing, you better spare me the time and go straight to the point. You know I don't have any to waste” I said to him and relaxed in my chair holding his gaze. “You didn't inform me about your plan to bring Miss Elana to the Kingdom, neither did you mention your wedding plans

Chapter 34 Olivia's POV “Where are you coming from?” Augustus asked me, his voice was hard, and his eyes were icy. I swallowed nervously, not wanting him to know about my secret. “I went to see the other side of the fence” I lied. He looked at me, hard and long, as if he could see that I was lying. “Okay. Come with me” he said and turned, walking straight to our chambers. I fell in step behind him, my heart slamming against my chest in fear. His aura was different tonight, and he looked as if he wanted to eat me raw. Once we got to the room, he held my hands and pulled me into the bathroom, locking the door behind him before I could even understand what was going on. “What is it?” I asked him, backing up against the other side of the bathroom, away from him. “Don't you think that after all that has happened today, we need to discuss?” He asked me, walking up to me and pressing my back against the cold walls of the bathroom. “Can't we do that in the room?” I asked him, t

Chapter 35 Olivia's POV I stirred, my body aching me and particularly a dull ache throbbed in between my thighs. I was trapped under something and when I opened my eyes, Augustus's body covered mine, his hands wrapped tightly around my small frame. He was still sleeping, his lashes casting a shadow on his face and a soft snore escaped his lips. I could hear his breathing and also the rise and fall of his chest on body. I tried to move, my legs hurt, and I could see blood stains on the bed. My cheeks turned red as I remembered last night even though I knew he had been with another woman in his mind. I was only the shadow of his one true love, one that he would ever want and for some reason, that made me sad. I struggled to pull myself from under him, he stirred in his sleep and turned to the other side, freeing my body from his grasp. As soon as he let me go, I got off the bed and limped to the bathroom, the evidence of what had happened last night until the early hours of thi

Chapter 36 Olivia's POV “You knew!” I exclaimed, shocked that he knew that my wolf wasn't strong. “Yes. I am your mate, do you really think I wouldn't have perceived your scent?” He asked, looking at me like the biggest secret I thought that I had was nothing. “It's not a big deal for you?” I said, nearly choking on my own spit. “Of course not. You are the Lycan Queen, that is all the power you need. Anyone who dares you now, has to contend with the entire Lycan Kingdom, don't meet with Lucia again. She is bad for you” he finished and I nodded my head. “Get dressed, we need to go to the women of the pack today. They would be preparing you for the wedding” he said, and I remembered that I had been upset about it earlier but now, it seemed that everything was okay. “But, I had planned to spend the day with Elana. We have so much to talk about.” I protested. “I know. She will be staying with you, I'll only take you to the women and leave you with them until they are done,

Chapter 37 Olivia's POV “That is not any way to welcome your sister, is it?” She asked, her eyes carrying the judgmental glint it always had whenever she looked at me. “How are you here?” I asked puzzled as I made my way to her. She smiled, looking at me with a satisfied look on her face. “Well, we did get an invitation for your wedding, Father didn't want anything to do with it, so mom suggested that I come on behalf of the family” she announced, almost like she was intentionally raising her voice so that more people could hear what she was saying. I immediately felt nervous and tensed. Her presence always seemed to do that to me and I hated it. I hated how it seemed like I always have to walk on eggshells around her. She had treated me so badly that the first thing that comes to my mind whenever I saw her was to run. “You got an invitation?” Augustus asked before turning to Alexander whose face was glued to the ground, apparently he had already seen through his mistake be

Chapter 76Olivia's POV I didn't know how much time had passed or how much longer I had, but this was hands down the toughest decision I had ever had to make. There was no one here and for a minute, I wondered if Elana wasn't supposed to be here as my ace guardian. Thinking about it again, this was a test to see my abilities alone without anyone's help. I was scared but then, I had not been with my family since I was born. It was hard to know what being with them would be like, I was curious. Augustus on the other hand, the thought of staying with him for the rest of my life was pleasing. I could feel my wolf leaping in joy. She wanted Augustus, we were going to pick Augustus but the thought of picking a man over my parents didn't sit right with me, so I decided that nothing was too big for me to sacrifice for them. Even if what I was sacrificing was my life and my mate. My hands were just about to pick my parents in a force field when I suddenly heard Elana's voice screaming my n

He was the reason I had crooked fingers, seeing his crooked ones too. “What do you think daughter?” He asked me and I nodded my head. I never expected to meet my real family like this, I knew they were dead, but somehow they are alive in a different world. “I thought you and mom died. How come you both are still here?” I asked him and he laughed. “Because this is not the real world. Every ace that has ever lived is here. This is the home of the Aces after death. It's why no one can find it. Out there in the real world, you have to be dead to it before you can have access to this place…"It was as if him saying out there in the real world had juggled my memory and I remembered Augustus. I thought sadly about how he would never be able to come and see my home. “I have to go back” I said and heard Elana gasp behind me, “what is

  • For Every Lifetime   A Kingdom of Layers

Chapter 74Augustus's POV It's been three days. Three days since Olivia and Elana had lost touch with this reality. I knew they were at the Ace Kingdom, the only kingdom that was untouched by time or the realities that we lived here. I am sure that Olivia and Elana do not know how long they have been there for. The kingdom was agog with activities, one that included them seeing their brave queen who brought them victory, but I couldn't tell them that their queen was an ace wolf, and she has gone home for now. I wondered what Olivia would choose when it was time for her to decide, a part of me dreaded that she might choose never to return her and have her body transported to the ace world. That would mean that I would never see her again, something that scared me more than life itself. “Your Majesty, the councilmen have been waiting for over four hours now. They think your delay is to disrespect them.” Alexander said and I hissed. I wasn't in the mood for those clowns, especially n

I was confused, Elana looked equally confused. “Yes, very soon my darling, you will understand what is going on” she said and I sighed. “Here we go again” I murmured under my breath as I didn't like that she did not explain things to me immediately but rather, wanted me to wait and understand. “If you are the princess Olivia, it can only mean that your parents were actually ace royals” Elana whispered as we waited for the slow but grand arrival of someone I imagined was the royals that I was related to. Suddenly, all the wolves stood up, clapping and chanting like they were performing some sort of welcome ritual. I didn't know what to do or if I should join them. Elana bowed her head and since she was the only person I knew here, I followed her to do the same. “Rise my darlings” I heard a woman's voice above my head. When I raised my head to look at her, I was shocked to see the most pre

Chapter 72Olivia's POV My eyes widened in shock, I had heard about Ace Guardians only in the books I have stolen from my father's library to read about wolves. No one told me anything and I had been struggling to see if there was a way to strengthen the weak one that I had. “Yes, she is your ace guardian” Augustus said when he saw the shock in my eyes. “You knew?” I asked him and could see that Elana was shocked that he knew too. “Olivia, do you know how many lifetimes I have lived with the full memory in my head? Trust me, I can smell some things from a thousand years away” he said, with a smile on his face and turned his attention to Elana, “Elana, I want you to know that I, Olivia Augustus Mate, the Great Lycan king and Uniter of the wolves and all life forms accept you as her Ace Guardian wolf” Augustus said just as Elana began to glow. I started to glow too and jumped up in shock. I was confused. What in the bloody hell was happening to me? A lot of questions were rummaging

They told me she was alive. I need to go back. I didn't mean to kill anyone, but I have a duty to protect my people” I said to her. “And you are sure you didn't kill her out of anger or anything else. Just what you have told me?” Elana asked again, she wasn't answering my questions, yet she kept asking me hers. I was confused. How did she know so much about me? “No, I didn't. Look, we can talk tomorrow morning, for now, there are certain things that I do not understand, and I am not in the right frame of mind to wrap my head around, do you mind if I get a few hours of sleep, and we regroup later in the day to talk about this?” I asked her, Elana looked at me for a while and threw her hands around my blood stained neck for some time. The palace came into view and there was a sea of people waiting for us, including Alexander, who had a terrible look on his face before our eyes met. “Are you ready?” Augustus asked me, distracting me from my face off with his two faced beta.“Never been more ready” I replied and he squeezed my hands. We both smelt alike. We carried the scent of battle, a mixture of smoke and dried, caked up blood. He opened the door and the screams of victory welcomed us home. We made our way to the palace, the men, and women looking at me with a new-found respect. They had obviously heard the rumors and thought that I had betrayed them, but they were the closest thing to a real family that I have ever had. “Welcome home your ma

It can't be” my father said and staggered backwards, nearly toppling over a bucket that had been kept there. Annalise didn't even move and no one helped to steady him. “How? You don't have a wolf? We made sure of it” my mother said, her eyes filled with confusion. “What do you mean by you made sure I didn't have a wolf?” I demanded, she looked at the ground and slowly backed away, her hands placed in front of her like a shield as I marched towards her. “Wait, I'll tell you everything. We exchanged your wolf for powers, we gave you to a deity so that we would become the Alpha and Luna of the pack” she said. “You mean, all those years you treated me like trash because I did not have a wolf, you a
