*ASA TRINE* It was the first time I had been completely brought to the limelight and I don’t think I appreciated the attention as much as I thought I would. My lips were constantly aching from the fake smiles that I had consistently put on for the whole crowd to see. While living in the shadows I never once had to worry about these kinds of things. My ‘star’ sister would handle everything but today I was the star and I hated having to put so much energy into burning this bright. I am sure I looked nothing but like a flickering candle. But this position also gave me some power, people didn’t dare insult me directly. “It’s so nice to meet you again Asa, you remember we went to the same school? I always wanted to come and say Hi to you then but I couldn’t because you usually stayed all alone by yourself,” An annoying face that was one of the ‘populars’ in high school greeted me and I noticed how she underhandedly tried to make people aware of my standing in the school as a loner and
*ASA TRINE* A pinch and an embarrassing smile later Sofia took a step forward and said, “Pardon my mate, we just got to know each other so he confused my name with the Trines as I had just been telling him about my relationship to them but I am Sofia Ignis, Michael Ignis, your Beta’s sister.” She had started off awkwardly due to the mistake that Clay had made with her name but by the end I could tell that she was proud. I don’t know how she was cool when her ‘mate’ had done such a blunder with the very introduction of the person he had been attached to but because of the consistent smile on her face it was bearable to face that second hand embarrassment on her part. Was he mocking me when he took my surname instead of hers? But didn’t that insult his mate that he supposedly loved so much? There was a slight look of confusion gracing Clay’s face as he listened to his mate talk to people who had disregarded his previous mistake and were now congratulating her. It was the power of th
*ASA TRINE* The hateful lips that had tormented me time an again with the words that spilled out of it, slowly dipped down in a satisfactory frown. The perfectly groomed brows that sat on the top most part of his forehead stretched closer together more than ever and his eyes had a light burning inside it as the blue gleamed viciously in the moonlight. Clay was furious, exactly how I wanted him to be. I wanted him to feel the rage I had been burning with. But suddenly in an instant, almost within a flash of a second, he was standing in front of me while Cain had a hand on his chest stopping him from taking another step further. It was embarrassing to admit but my heart had stopped for a second when I realized what might have happened to me if not for my mate’s presence. “Stay in your limits,” Cain warned him audibly but still low enough that it wouldn’t garner any attention towards us. Lowering his gaze, Clay watched his brother threateningly push out his claws and returning his s
*ASA TRINE* “Cain, no,” I weakly refuted as I felt his fingers glide over the heels of my foot in slight curvy patterns. My attempts were halfhearted at the best as I slowly pushed away at Cain’s head that was lowering towards my feet. “What are you- Cain!” I scolded him but it sounded more like a moan even to my own ears as I felt his tongue flick a scraped wound leaving a wet trail in its wake. The sensation of his hot tongue and seductive gaze sent a shiver rushing through my body. Fuck! Another slicked movement on the ankle made me gasp again and fist his soft hair in my hands. This made Cain hiss as he looked up from where he predatorily kept bunching up my dress, revealing more and more of my shin. “I was just trying to disinfect your wounds,” he said trying to act innocent as he continued to glide his fingers sensitively over my bare skin. There was a hypnotic glint in his eyes that kept me still even as I felt the air caress more and more of my skin. It was only when I fel
*ASA TRINE* “Luna?” I called out as soon as we reached the Alpha’s residence. She had been curled like a ball on the sofa in the living room, drinking a glass of wine while looking as if she had cried tears all night. “What’s wrong, Mom?” Cain asked, alarmed to see his mother in a state such as this. She was a composed and strong lady therefore seeing her in this condition didn’t settle well with me as well. Looking at the both of us she wiped her face for any remaining tears with the sleeves of her beige night gown that she had been wearing and sitting the glass back down on the coffee table, she croaked out a smile as she said, “Is Clay alright?” Her question angered me slightly and the brows that had been furrowed before in her worry were now stretched up high at the indecency of the question, that she had been asking her child who had just been hurt by the other one, an hour ago. Shouldn’t she ask how Cain was doing? “He is alright, Mom,” Cain replied back normally, no traces
*ASA TRINE* The sun was up and shining bright this morning. It was one of those days when you would want to wake up and just enjoy the cheerfulness that the nature spread around you. You could see passing smiles on almost everybody’s face as they went about their daily work. But it had taken me some time to realize that it wasn’t because of the day that had plastered such smile on their faces, it was because of the new rumor and drama that had enfolded yesterday night about Clay and Sofia that was causing it. It was sadistic to like this so much but I really wanted Clay to get to know how it felt being at the receiving end of the vicious judgements. I wanted to see him frowning and hiding from the gazes of the people that were laughing at him, that would keep on following him like a terrible shadow. I wanted him to hear the deliberate whispers of spite and humor that people were spreading about him. I wanted to see his head hang down in shame but- “Seeing you like this I really did
*CAIN ARIUS* “You just wait and watch, I will become the Alpha of this pack soon,” Clay brooded as he glared at Asa who in turn stood her place and huffing accepted the challenge, “We’ll see.” There was a spark between the two, a crackle of animosity and for some reason even this slight connection of theirs still bothered me. Curbing the urge to act on the scenarios in my head that were ranging from strangling my brother, to putting him up against the wall by his neck, I clenched my fist tightly together and waited for him to leave. Mom would cry again if she heard the two of us fought. Sighing I saw them still fixatedly glaring and I despised the way Clay looked at her. Whether it was eyes full of love or hate if they stayed longer than necessary on my mate then I couldn’t help but feel threatened by it. As if noticing the change in atmosphere, Clay’s eyes flicked towards me ever so slightly and then with a grunt of exasperation he marched out from Dad’s office as we followed out
*ASA TRINE* “That’s your theory?” The Alpha asked glancing between the two of us where we had been sitting in front of his desk in his office. It had only been a day since he had informed us about the problem and I had spent major part of my evening yesterday brainstorming different ideas and solutions with Cain. “Yes, I had been monitoring the two issues from before as well and they seemed to have started somewhere near the same time,” Cain revealed to his father and I noticed the Alpha’s expression slightly changed to one of admiration as he gazed down at his son. “Did you talk to your brother about it as well?” Luna, who had been standing by Alpha’s chair asked, looking at her son expectantly. Her words slightly shocked me as I looked at her in astonishment. She must have noticed me gawking at her because clarifying she said, “Oh, Cain has always been smarter at these things and he always helps his brother out since they were young.” There was a pretty and proud smile on her
