RIONA'S POV
Time stopped. And I could've sworn with everything I have, I saw lightning bolts splintered out of Alpha Theron's head. He grinded his teeth, infusing a deep sense of fear to my very core.
Still, I managed to keep a straight face, despite the fear that spiralled through me. I couldn't let myself drown in the claws of fear. Especially not in the presence of this man, staring down on me with a cold gaze, and his subordinates, pacing the length of the open space.
He tightened his grip around my hand, in a way that made the area with the most impact, flare with pain. I held back a groan that threatened to spill from the corner of my lips. “Please…let go. You're hurting me.” I pleaded. Much to my surprise, my voice came out shaky.
One. Two. Three. Three beats passed, and he hesitantly let go. I collapsed to the ground. My veins trickled with equal parts apprehension, and equal parts relief.
Alpha Theron, snarled. “Try that nonsense one more time, and I will scribble your name in my bad book,” He taunted, his voice sounding like a rumble. “Riona Lukas, you don't want to be in my bad book.” From the way the words fell out of his lips, it was obvious he wasn't bluffing.
I pressed my lips together, shaking my head slowly. My hands trembled, from my close range encounter with Alpha Theron. He seemed to have seen through the thoughts going on in my mind, because he said.
“These people will not hesitate to—” he grunted, spreading his hands to push back the gamma warrior that broke out of the crowd.
She growled, shooting her fist in the air. I flinched. My hands wrapped around myself, while I stared at her blankly. “Let me finish her off Alpha Theron!” For the way her toned muscles flex, her high-pitched voice came as a surprise.
Alpha Theron gave me one last cold glare, then he turned to face her. “Kanesha, get a hold of yourself!” He chided her.
Kanesha spat. “Who the hell does this thing think she is huh?” She quipped. Her face turned the colour of a hydrant. “Leave her to me, Theron. And, I will teach her never to make an Alpha go through the hurdles to get her back.”
I managed a weak but demeaning scoff. Which didn't go well with either of them. Alpha Theron turned back at me, his eyes narrowed with an emotion similar to disdain. Kanesha on the other hand was a mess of various negative emotions.
The veins in her hands bulged with brutality. I was part grateful there was a restrain between Kanesha and I. After hours in the cold, and the injuries I'd sustained. I was too weak to fight.
Elara sprouted her head up, before I got a chance to push her back. ‘Well, I wouldn't mind taking the challenge. She sounds like a bitch. I can't stand her!’ She seethed through her fangs.
“I swear by the moon goddess Theron, she's pretending,” She advanced towards me in two calculative strides. But Theron's Alpha vibes kicked in, before she even got a chance to land a punch in.
Kanesha’s face was coloured in disappointment. But her green eyes glowered with sheer hatred. My guts told me, I was going to see more of this angry, brutal female around, and not in a good way.
Her eyes widened. “Why not! Last I checked you don't spare those that try to escape from the pack!” Her breathing was heavy. From the hasty rise and fall of her chest, Kanesha wasn't quite satisfied. I was still given the privilege to breathe.
With his back still facing me, he pointed a finger at me. And the simple action flung the muscle on his entire arm into a masterpiece. The way they flexed screamed an unhealthy amount of masculinity, and cocky natured self-awareness.
Elara stirred inside of me, dripping with disgust. ‘They won't see our back next time we try to escape.’ She hissed when she sensed the streak of attraction that flickered in Kanesha's eyes.
It lasted for a few seconds, before it morphed into full blown disdain. “She’s mine.” His voice was curt, but heavy enough to drag the right emotions from his subordinates.
From the pain that blurred my vision a bit, I couldn't quite take in their facial expression. Their gasps of surprise was enough for me to know.
Slowly, Kanesha's fist uncurled. She blinked rapidly, as if she was in a dream. “Wh-wh-what do you mean Theron?” She stuttered. Then, she snapped back from her reverie, and pointed at me. “She doesn't even look like she has a wolf.”
“Doesn't change the fact that she's mine,” he said in the most casual tone, like he'd just asked for a cup of coffee. “Now get the blanket, let's get out of here. This is no safe space.”
She nodded. “Right away.” Kanesha turned to walked away, when Alpha Theron beckoned to her.
The muscles in her hands stiffened. When she turned back to face him, her face was pale. “Yes, do you need me to do anything for you?”
He ignored her question and said. “You would in fact be the one owing me a great favour, if anything happens to her,” he paused for a beat. “Kanesha, you know me. Nobody touches what belongs to me.”
She hesitated, then said, “I'd rather die than to see her hurt.”
“More like it. Now get the blanket.” He snapped his fingers, and two of the gammas stepped forward, and held me up.
They led me to the waiting cars parked by the roadside . “Here!” Kanesha held out a thick blanket. I made to reach for it, when she dropped it to the ground. “Oops, it slipped.” She spun around and walked away.
Alpha Theron's jaw clenched. “Get into the car.” One of the gammas held the door open. I scrambled into the car, and the nerve-wracking journey back to the Silverfang pack started.
I was going to suffer for this. Especially with Kanesha, and an Alpha who wanted me alive for the fun of it.
RIONA'S POV The Cadillac pulled in the garage, and Kanesha did the honours of holding the door, and dragging me out of the car, in the guise of ‘helping me out’ quote on quote. It was a great disservice to Elara, who was still seething with displeasure. Theron rounded the car, and covered the distance between Kanesha and me. His face, still red from the impact of my wolf's claws. I concealed a smirk that threatened to break out of the corner of my lips. “What do I do with her…Sir?” The reluctance in her voice was all the confirmation I needed to know she had a sensual attraction towards Theron. He sneered. “Better hold your horses Neesha. If a hair on her body gets hurt,” his face blanched at the amount of sensual tension that coated the word ‘body’. Something about the way he said it, made my skin tingle with strange excitement. Thankfully, it snapped the instant he spoke again. “You would spend the entire winter at the river.” She hesitated, then gave him a stiff bow. “Like I
RIONA'S POV Fatigue settled in my bones, I was so close to having fits of exhaustion. I winced in pain, and curled my legs close to my chest. The injuries inflicted on my body still ached. “Try not to be a nuisance, and maybe, just maybe I would reconsider my rules,” Her words dripped with sarcasm. She clapped her hands, and the door cracked open with a deafening scraping sound, that made me cause under my breath. A hefty six foot male, dressed in a black jacket, and a matching mask with the image of a skull drawn on it, stomped in. He bowed with a grunt. “Rocky, we have a new guest here. No harm comes to her—” she stopped mid-sentence, then continued in the same breath. “Alpha Theron's rule.” Rocky's eyes widened, and returned to normal. He pulled down his mask, revealing a wrinkled goatee, lining his mouth. “Yes ma!” His shoulders went stiff, I could literally see through the way his muscles bunched at Alpha Theron's name. Kanesha looked down at her wristwatch. “When is the ne
RIONA'S POV It's been days since I was shoved out of natural light in this dark torturing cell. Elara was acting weirdly. She'd snap her head out, and slip back in. It was getting scary. In the dead of the night, I'd allow her to surface a bit, and suppress her at the faintest sound of approaching footsteps. My entire body ached, like hot coal was shoved into my joints. My injuries were slowly healing; I wasn't given the luxury of getting attended to by the pack doctors. Moreso, Kanesha saw to it that my food was poorly made. Each day, I looked forward to clumped spaghetti, or mashed potatoes with fingerlings. I curled to the corner of the room, covered with the blanket that shielded me from the harsh cold. Even through the confines I could feel the weather build up. It got chilly, making me even more sick. Using Elara’s powers to help myself was like shoving her in the face of her enemies. I had to escape, live this pack for good this time. Who knows, the next time I'd appear i
RIONA'S POV Elara snapped her teeth at Kanesha, on the verge of going out of her way to put her in check. I tried to suppress her. I did for a few beats, and she snapped her head up again. This time, her eyes shone red. I could've sworn, I saw Kanesha flinched. But she quickly regained her confidence. “How dare you reject the food I offered huh?” She spat, her words seething with disdain. “I bet you don't know what it cost me to get this to you in the first place!” Her face was bright red with rage. The facial expression on her face didn't match her cold, low voice. She should be screaming at the top of her voice. My wolf became more conscious, her wolf abilities on alert to pick out the faintest form of anger. My lips thinned with defiance. “Then eat it!” I tipped the food towards her, the ceramic bowl jiggled and tilted to the side, flipping half its contract on her leather boot. Kanesha's nose flared. I looked up, narrowing my eyes to take in the intensity of the light from he
THERON'S POV Earlier that day… My nose flared at the mere sight of the man in front of me. His face, battered with red welts, and scars from my men. I leaned backwards into my chair, scrutinizing him from head to toe. Disgusted by his presence, my blood simmered with an urgent need to discard him. I pushed myself forward on my seat. “I'm gonna ask this one more time,” I paused. The entire room was dense with trepidation. His entire body shuddered with panic. Scratch my thoughts about being hasty in my judgement, I was gonna enjoy this. Nobody dared breach the borders of my pack. “Who sent you to spy against my pack?” His lips fell apart, like he was about to speak, but he couldn't make out one coherent word. My nose flared, a low growl rattled my chest. I stomped my hand against the armrest of the chair, then advanced towards him. He fell back, using his hands to shield himself. I grimaced, like that would save him from my wrath to start with. “I-I-I…” he stuttered, his voice t
RIONA'S POV My eyes fluttered open, and a flood of warm golden light flooded into my eyes. I clamped them back shut. Two beats passed, and I forced my eyes open. My head throbbed with a terrible headache, my gaze hovered around the strange white ceiling. I winced in pain, my gaze taking in everything around me. Elara was weirdly alert for the faintest sight of Kanesha. The brawl between us was a one off for what she had in mind for her. She wasn't gonna let Kanesha off her hook that easily. A gasp of surprise escaped the corner of my lips, when my gaze landed on a familiar bulky figure, with his back facing me. I struggled to sit up, resting my back against the bed frame. Theron seemed to pick on my consciousness. He turned to face me, the scowl on his face suited him in a way that made my toes curl with a dark sensation. “Hey!” His deep voice flitted over my skin, a wave of goosebumps prickled in its wake. Theron covered the distance between us, rounded my bed, and stood beside
THERON'S POV Vuk stirred inside of me, yearning and clamming to reach her, but I shut him off. I was not about to play the sympathetic cards with him. My eyebrows furrowed together with a deep frown etched on my face. “I need you to calm down.” The tone of my voice had come out cold and demeaning. Riona's eyes narrowed, like she was surprised, then her shoulders slouched in despair. Her lips fell apart like she was about to say a word, but she clamped it back shut. “The doctor said you'll be here for the next few days,” I paused with a grunt. “Hopefully, you're fully strong enough to get back on your feet.” She groaned. “But I am strong enough, Theron. Trust me—” I scoffed. “You're not a doctor!” My voice was calm with an assertive undertone. For some reason, my statement pricked a delicate emotion in her, because her lips twisted in a frown. “Oh now, you want to tell me what to do with my own body?” She said in a retort. Emotion tangled in my chest. For someone who's been unc
THERON'S POV I pulled up in front of the porch that led to Gamma Darrell's house. A weird emotion tightened around my chest as I took in the features of the terrace house. It's been a while I came here. Since I took over as the pack Alpha. I wasn't expecting to feel a surge of exhilaration. But the distant feeling associated with my childhood held deep sentiments that were a bit foreign to me. Vuk stirred inside me, ‘C’mon man. You don't have to show the world your weakness and you know this,’ My shoulders bunched at his statement. Darell was the only family I had…the only I knew. After the drastic situation with my father, which made me banish my mother from the pack.Anger settled in the deepest part of my bones. I hated—no, loath to ponder on the ugly incident, time and time again. It didn't go well that I sulked over something that shallow. Vuk grunted, clearly not sharing the same thought with me. Albeit, he didn't utter a single word. I tightened my fist around the steering
RIONA'S POV I watched Rylan and his grandmother speaking. Equal parts confused, and equal parts curious. Odessa whined inside of me. She perked her head to take in everything in front of her, but the heat from his mere presence confused her. “Camilla, there's never a good time for anything,” he muttered. Whatever the problem was, it was obvious it drained a part of him, he didn't want to talk about. A mixture of panic, and pain lined his facial features. His jaw clenched harder with each word he spoke. His gray eyes became tawny, coloured with wariness. Camilla reached for his hands, and squeezed it softly. “Son, we can't have you plunging into something that delicate,” frustration carved wrinkles on her face, “Remember you still need to win the heart of your subordinates, to become the official heir to Oakville throne.” His lips parted like he was about to counter her, when she added, beating him to it. “I don't think the pack members would want an injured Alpha.” He grunted, r
Tree branches slapped and scratched me, searing my skin as I ran through the thick woods. Heavy stomps of feet raced closer to me, covering the distance between me and my predators, and reached my ears. My vision became blurry, and it took every bit of willpower in me to keep my heavy legs running through the woods filled with thorns. My lips fell slightly apart as I struggled to drag in oxygen into my lungs. “Riona, you can't run away from us…” one man growled behind me before he let out a sinister laugh. My wolf, Elara, twirled inside of me, fighting and scratching to come to the surface. Unlike me, she was raw, brutal, and wouldn't hesitate before her claws sliced out and dug out their eyes.Elara was nothing like me. She was always ready for a faceoff with anyone she perceived as an enemy. But letting her have her way would mean shoving her as bait to her enemies. They would easily outnumber her, and the last thing I wanted was a weakened wolf. With each step I took, my legs fel
RIONA'S POV My day started badly. My feet tingled with a foreign stiffness I wasn't used to. I made to turn but my insides twisted with a torturing pain. I fell with my back against the bed. I let out a groan, when Alpha Theron's scent floated into my nose. Elara reared her head in sheer pleasure. His presence soothed a part of her, a part of us we didn't know needed to be calmed. What followed next was the stomping of his feet against the marble tiles as he approached my bed. His gaze net mine, and even with the signature permanent scowl etched on his face, his eyes glimmered with a soft smile.I made to push myself up, Alpha Theron covered the small distance between us, and wrapped his arms around me, serving as an edge. The warmth pressed harder into my bones. “Hey,” A faint bitter taste lingered in my mouth. I tipped my head sideways to take in his facial expression. The skin beneath his eyes was smudged from exhaustion. My eyes hovered around the room, and the pieces of puzz
ALPHA THERON'S POV Streaks of anger resurfaced at the edge of my consciousness. I got her to the safety of the pack house. The instant I set her in bed, I checked her thoroughly. My heart slammed against my ribcage with a bruising force. Examining her wounds was like stabbing my muscles with a silver dagger. Asides the cuts, and the mild concussion there was nothing to panic about. Still, the surge of adrenaline slithering through my veins petered out any sense of reasoning. I…I thought I'd lost her. Mental images of holding Riona's limp body emerged at the edges of my consciousness. Her body felt limp, cold. Riona's temperature was beyond belief. I unbuttoned her shirt, and waited for the slightest response from her— I got nothing. The lingering fear of losing her pressed further into my consciousness. I made a mental note to deal with Kanesha much later. For now, all I wanted to do was see Riona back to her feet. That was what mattered to me. I placed a bag of ice packs agains
THERON'S POV My curled fist hung midway in the air, as I fought with my guts whether to knock on her door or not. It's been a few days since I flipped on her. Somehow, Riona had thought the best option she could come up with was keeping to herself. The first couple of days I'd ignored her. Yep. I'd struggled through breakfast and having to train without feeling the gaze of a certain five foot six inches staring at me. Today was the height of it. Vuk had snugged me out of my sleep and dragged me straight to her door. ‘Vuk, we really don't have to do this,’ I tried to cajole him. He hissed. ‘Do what exactly?’ Vuk reiterated. My jaw clenched. ‘Going to meet her right in her room! It's absurd man, and you know it.’ ‘Hmm. Last I checked, a certain Alpha wouldn't keep his arms off his mate while in bed—’ Wait a quick minute. I cut him off before he had a chance to continue his rambling. ‘That was different and you know it. She was sick, sick! I couldn't let her suffer that alone.’ V
RIONA'S POV My insides collapsed as Alpha Theron masculine scent swooshed out the last ounce of oxygen from my lungs. Everywhere spun around in a haze of polaroid, and I tightened my grip around him— technically, Alpha Theron's bulky physique prevented my arms from curling around him perfectly. This should've felt perfect. But a tiny feeling of nostalgia wrapped around me. Elara was all but calm. We remained in that position for what seemed to be like forever, when it actual sense, it lasted for ten minutes. Alpha Theron pulled away from the hug, and a strange feeling of disappointment engulfed me. “What was it you wanted to talk about?” He quipped. His voice, sleek and husky. I swallowed the lump that gathered my throat. A slight headache was starting to blossom at the base of my skull. “I-I-I–” I stopped when Elara stirred. She didn't seem like she was satisfied by the abrupt end of the contact between I and Theron Moretti. He—We were yet to consummate the bond between us. Conc
ALPHA THERON'S POV I spent the next couple of days shuffling between pack duties, and keeping things in place. Vuk was even more disgruntled by my refusal to consummate the bond with our mate. “Fire!” One of the warriors screamed out the order to the rest of the warriors. The sun had just appeared from the dark clouds indicating the start of a new day— which meant training. There was no trusting anyone else. Especially when it had to do with my pack subordinates. Heck! Even the warriors at the pack might flaunt my rules in my absence. So, the only right thing to do was doubling the security around the pack house. It was the powerhouse of the Silverfang. My jaw clenched in disgust when one of the warriors hit Gamma Vincent to the ground. Vuk hissed in response. Embarrassing. My nerves tightened with animosity. “What the hell are you doing huh?” I sneered. “Do I smell incompetence with my Gamma?” I demanded in a husky voice. Gamma Vincent struggled up to his feet. I narrowed my e
THERON'S POV This second, I get lost in the swing of emotions. In a swing of an eye, I snap out and irritation prickles through my veins. Ugh! I hated dealing with weird intense emotions. They killed me, ripped me apart. It was already enough that Vuk struggled to dig his fangs into her skin and mark her his, each time we set eyes on her. I took the left staircase, and headed to my chambers. I had a brief meeting with the pack elders. I hated meetings. And it got worse since they started questioning my capability as an Alpha. Who the hell do they think they are! Riona's Alpha instincts were way stronger than I could imagine. There was more to her than she knew. She was the broad canvas with her pieces scattered all over the place. One piece held a different story from another piece. I was going to— “Theron!” A sultry feminine voice cut through my train of thoughts, and a low growl erupted from the corner of my lips. I stopped abruptly in my tracks, and turned to the direction o
RIONA'S POV I relished in the ecstasy of the moment, as I took in the sight before me. I'd seen the sunrise— from a good distance of course. Capturing it this close. My arms brushed against his sharp shoulder blade. I tightened my grip around the rails, taking in the crisp fresh air. “It’s really beautiful,” the words fell out of my mouth before I could think it through. Still, the pangs of regret I thought would linger weren't there, not even slightly. Silence rented the air around us. Still, I could practically taste the serenity that dug in the crevices of the silence. “Exceedingly perfect,” he said in that familiar husky tone that left a trail of tingles in its wake. Elara reared her head sideways, her body rippling with an intense urge to rub her fur against his. It was one thing to know my mate. Yet another to consummate the bond between us. Another round of silence pressed in around us. I had so much to say. Since I thought they were baseless, I clamped my mouth shut and w
