RIONA'S POV
This was my price to pay for the freedom I sought. With each step I took farther away from the Silverfang pack, the snow grew heavier hitting against my skin. I'd not prepared enough for this journey of escape with the little resource available to me.
My feet were frozen from the piles of snow I'd had to drag them through. I didn't need to see them, to know my feet were covered with frostbite. I hugged myself, shielding half my body, which was bare from the cold as much as I could.
A cold shiver skittered through my spine, causing my teeth to ground against each other. However, my wolf, Elara nudged Ms on. ‘Just a little while, and we'll be there. Keep going.’ She whined.
At first, Elara had been drawn to the charisma that dripped from her fated mate. But when she picked up on whom he truly was, she frowned at his attitude.
‘I could take over, if that would make it easier.’ She offered, clawing and scratching to come to the surface.
My hands dug into my skin, forming half moon indentations. “No!” I reiterated. I could risk her scent traveling around. It was already enough that I had no idea how much dagger lurked behind the trees covered with heavy stomps of snow.
Elara sneered, but didn't try to fight it. She must've sensed my weak state. I’d refused to drink nor eat the mashed potato at the hospital. Well, in my defense, I was scared for my life. I couldn't trust anyone in the Silverfang pack with my life.
So, I continued my journey. My strength seeping out of every pore in my body. My head throbbed with a terrible headache. A groan of frustration erupted from the corner of my lip. I blinked frantically to push back the wave of dizziness that clouded my vision.
‘Riona, you can't give up now. You just can't.’ A small voice of defiance snickered in my head. I walked an extra ten minutes through the woods, and a loud gasp that took almost the entire oxygen from my lungs escaped my lips.
I fell to the cold ground in exhaustion, staring blankly at the vast body of water spread across the horizon, farther than my eyes could go. Emotions welled in my chest. Memories, sad memories that’d haunted a better part of my childhood came flooding back.
A pang of pain blossomed through my body. The incident with my step sister. The one that made my entire pack label me a curse, flashed through my mind. Elara raised her head up again.
‘What are you doing, Riona? This place is dangerous for you.’ The tone of her voice was heavy with urgency. Elara continued, ‘Think of your fate if Alpha Theron catches up with you. Hahaha! I bet you already know he would present your bones to your father as a gift. Oh! Your stepmother would be delighted. At least, she didn't get to do the dirty job herself!’
I pressed my hand tightly over my ears, my eyes clamped shut. I bit down on my lower lips to fight back the bitter tears that threatened to spill out of my eyes. My head spun with a thousand thoughts that left a hollow in my core.
“I can't. I can't go—” I muttered under my breath. The air around the river quickened, whistling fast. Trees swayed to the direction of the breeze, then it happened…
The air thickened with a familiar masculine scent that caused my wolf to spring out of her shell. I recognize that scent anywhere. Slowly, I whipped my head around, and I froze, when I caught sight of Aloha Theron, flanked by a handful of angry looking gamma warriors.
No way! My pulse throbbed violently. I staggered to my feet, and ran as fast as my cold, tired legs could carry me. I didn't run for too long, when a strong hand shot out, and grabbed me by the hand.
I shrieked. “No please. Let me go!” I let out a loud scream with my weak voice.
A growl rattled from behind me, and a wave of fear gripped me to the ground. My legs felt stuck. I couldn't tell if it was his lethal aura, or his fierce masculinity. But, I couldn't bring my legs to do its job anymore.
Another groan escaped my lips, Alpha Theron spun me around, and pinned me against the wall. His eyes were blazing with anger. I could tell he was at war with his wolf.
A sly smirk lined the corner of his lips. Then the frown on his face melted away. I couldn't decipher if he was angry, or thinking of the best way to get rid of me, once and for all.
Elara snarled, flexing her claws at him. She was seething with rage, and wouldn't bat an eyelid, before she scratched his flesh off his face. I held her back. Now was the perfect time.
Alpha Theron inched closer to me, so his body was pressed against me. His scent became stronger, blocking my senses. I let out a soft moan, and regretted my action immediately.
“If you think I would go easy on you, because of last time, then you have something else coming,” he drawled. “Preserving your life isn't a prerequisite for biting the finger that feeds you. You could get your mouth broken.” He reached for my hair, and tugged at it.
I hissed, pushing his hands off. “Don't touch me!” I said in a weak protest. The damn effect of mate bond crept in, weakening my bones.
My senses became hazy, and a warm sensation blossomed between my legs. Ugh! I hate that. Alpha Theron ran a loose finger over my face, and another moan fell out of my lips.
“I can smell your arousal miles away. There's no need to fight it.” I could taste the sarcasm in his voice. Unease settled on the thick lines of his face. He pushed his head to the side of my neck, and sniffed on it aggressively.
His wolf's energy crackled the air, increasing the tension between us. My cheeks turned the colour of cherry tomatoes, at the closeness between us.
I was at the brink of caving into the sensuality that dripped from him. But Elara, disgusted by him, had other plans.
One fleeting minute of laxity, she bolted out of the mindlock I'd subjected her to, and swiped her claws on his face.

RIONA'S POV Time stopped. And I could've sworn with everything I have, I saw lightning bolts splintered out of Alpha Theron's head. He grinded his teeth, infusing a deep sense of fear to my very core. Still, I managed to keep a straight face, despite the fear that spiralled through me. I couldn't let myself drown in the claws of fear. Especially not in the presence of this man, staring down on me with a cold gaze, and his subordinates, pacing the length of the open space. He tightened his grip around my hand, in a way that made the area with the most impact, flare with pain. I held back a groan that threatened to spill from the corner of my lips. “Please…let go. You're hurting me.” I pleaded. Much to my surprise, my voice came out shaky. One. Two. Three. Three beats passed, and he hesitantly let go. I collapsed to the ground. My veins trickled with equal parts apprehension, and equal parts relief. Alpha Theron, snarled. “Try that nonsense one more time, and I will scribble your n
RIONA'S POV The Cadillac pulled in the garage, and Kanesha did the honours of holding the door, and dragging me out of the car, in the guise of ‘helping me out’ quote on quote. It was a great disservice to Elara, who was still seething with displeasure. Theron rounded the car, and covered the distance between Kanesha and me. His face, still red from the impact of my wolf's claws. I concealed a smirk that threatened to break out of the corner of my lips. “What do I do with her…Sir?” The reluctance in her voice was all the confirmation I needed to know she had a sensual attraction towards Theron. He sneered. “Better hold your horses Neesha. If a hair on her body gets hurt,” his face blanched at the amount of sensual tension that coated the word ‘body’. Something about the way he said it, made my skin tingle with strange excitement. Thankfully, it snapped the instant he spoke again. “You would spend the entire winter at the river.” She hesitated, then gave him a stiff bow. “Like I
RIONA'S POV Fatigue settled in my bones, I was so close to having fits of exhaustion. I winced in pain, and curled my legs close to my chest. The injuries inflicted on my body still ached. “Try not to be a nuisance, and maybe, just maybe I would reconsider my rules,” Her words dripped with sarcasm. She clapped her hands, and the door cracked open with a deafening scraping sound, that made me cause under my breath. A hefty six foot male, dressed in a black jacket, and a matching mask with the image of a skull drawn on it, stomped in. He bowed with a grunt. “Rocky, we have a new guest here. No harm comes to her—” she stopped mid-sentence, then continued in the same breath. “Alpha Theron's rule.” Rocky's eyes widened, and returned to normal. He pulled down his mask, revealing a wrinkled goatee, lining his mouth. “Yes ma!” His shoulders went stiff, I could literally see through the way his muscles bunched at Alpha Theron's name. Kanesha looked down at her wristwatch. “When is the ne
RIONA'S POV It's been days since I was shoved out of natural light in this dark torturing cell. Elara was acting weirdly. She'd snap her head out, and slip back in. It was getting scary. In the dead of the night, I'd allow her to surface a bit, and suppress her at the faintest sound of approaching footsteps. My entire body ached, like hot coal was shoved into my joints. My injuries were slowly healing; I wasn't given the luxury of getting attended to by the pack doctors. Moreso, Kanesha saw to it that my food was poorly made. Each day, I looked forward to clumped spaghetti, or mashed potatoes with fingerlings. I curled to the corner of the room, covered with the blanket that shielded me from the harsh cold. Even through the confines I could feel the weather build up. It got chilly, making me even more sick. Using Elara’s powers to help myself was like shoving her in the face of her enemies. I had to escape, live this pack for good this time. Who knows, the next time I'd appear i
RIONA'S POV Elara snapped her teeth at Kanesha, on the verge of going out of her way to put her in check. I tried to suppress her. I did for a few beats, and she snapped her head up again. This time, her eyes shone red. I could've sworn, I saw Kanesha flinched. But she quickly regained her confidence. “How dare you reject the food I offered huh?” She spat, her words seething with disdain. “I bet you don't know what it cost me to get this to you in the first place!” Her face was bright red with rage. The facial expression on her face didn't match her cold, low voice. She should be screaming at the top of her voice. My wolf became more conscious, her wolf abilities on alert to pick out the faintest form of anger. My lips thinned with defiance. “Then eat it!” I tipped the food towards her, the ceramic bowl jiggled and tilted to the side, flipping half its contract on her leather boot. Kanesha's nose flared. I looked up, narrowing my eyes to take in the intensity of the light from he
THERON'S POV Earlier that day… My nose flared at the mere sight of the man in front of me. His face, battered with red welts, and scars from my men. I leaned backwards into my chair, scrutinizing him from head to toe. Disgusted by his presence, my blood simmered with an urgent need to discard him. I pushed myself forward on my seat. “I'm gonna ask this one more time,” I paused. The entire room was dense with trepidation. His entire body shuddered with panic. Scratch my thoughts about being hasty in my judgement, I was gonna enjoy this. Nobody dared breach the borders of my pack. “Who sent you to spy against my pack?” His lips fell apart, like he was about to speak, but he couldn't make out one coherent word. My nose flared, a low growl rattled my chest. I stomped my hand against the armrest of the chair, then advanced towards him. He fell back, using his hands to shield himself. I grimaced, like that would save him from my wrath to start with. “I-I-I…” he stuttered, his voice t
RIONA'S POV My eyes fluttered open, and a flood of warm golden light flooded into my eyes. I clamped them back shut. Two beats passed, and I forced my eyes open. My head throbbed with a terrible headache, my gaze hovered around the strange white ceiling. I winced in pain, my gaze taking in everything around me. Elara was weirdly alert for the faintest sight of Kanesha. The brawl between us was a one off for what she had in mind for her. She wasn't gonna let Kanesha off her hook that easily. A gasp of surprise escaped the corner of my lips, when my gaze landed on a familiar bulky figure, with his back facing me. I struggled to sit up, resting my back against the bed frame. Theron seemed to pick on my consciousness. He turned to face me, the scowl on his face suited him in a way that made my toes curl with a dark sensation. “Hey!” His deep voice flitted over my skin, a wave of goosebumps prickled in its wake. Theron covered the distance between us, rounded my bed, and stood beside
THERON'S POV Vuk stirred inside of me, yearning and clamming to reach her, but I shut him off. I was not about to play the sympathetic cards with him. My eyebrows furrowed together with a deep frown etched on my face. “I need you to calm down.” The tone of my voice had come out cold and demeaning. Riona's eyes narrowed, like she was surprised, then her shoulders slouched in despair. Her lips fell apart like she was about to say a word, but she clamped it back shut. “The doctor said you'll be here for the next few days,” I paused with a grunt. “Hopefully, you're fully strong enough to get back on your feet.” She groaned. “But I am strong enough, Theron. Trust me—” I scoffed. “You're not a doctor!” My voice was calm with an assertive undertone. For some reason, my statement pricked a delicate emotion in her, because her lips twisted in a frown. “Oh now, you want to tell me what to do with my own body?” She said in a retort. Emotion tangled in my chest. For someone who's been unc
AMARA'S POV “This is the lobby which leads to the Alpha's territory,” one of the gamma said, as he pointed at an open space. I nodded, and didn't say a single word. It's been a few weeks since I came to the Silverfang pack. My injuries had healed completely. And, my wolf Elara was more than stable, strong even. Alpha Theron had lessen my home imprisonment. Now, I could take long walks through the pack. Whilst fighting Elara from coming to the surface. “We should go outside ma'am,” the man said in a polite tone. I gave him a wary smile. “Oh yeah. We totally should,” I paused. My heart heavy with unspoken words. He led the way, as we passed through Alpha Theron's chambers. I strained my ears, hoping to pick the strangest sound. But the thick aluminum door, muffled out the voice. I'd picked the scent of the Beta from my pack. My mind raced with a thousand questions. What does he want? Why was he here in the first place. My throat itched with an urgent need to query the warrior, bu
THERON'S POVI stomped to my car and drove off, my clutch, hard on the gas. Waves of embarrassment gilded through my veins, as I made my way back to the condo. Fuck all of these! I had another game to prepare for. After my team lost to Carlos school in the last game, I’d hated myself these past week. The incident that happened at the victim's ward made it worse.No. I wasn't mad that I had to pay one of the enforcers a visit. For what it's worth, she was injured while trying to protect the legacy of the school. My anger was directed to Roman. He lived life on his own terms and was selfish while at it. If he had a tinge of decency, perhaps we wouldn't have to go through this. The victim's guardian had all the right to decline our entry. I slowed down and brought the car to a halt in the garage, scrambled out when either of my brother's pulled up right behind me. Sparing whoever it was no glance, I made a beeline for the entrance of the door. I was going to be fine. My wolf was fumi
THERON'S POV “Are you going to remain standing with your back turned to face me?” Father's voice seethed with pain. My lips pursed. “Why'd you do it?” I questioned, ignoring his request. “Do what?” I turned to face him, my eyes narrowed with fury. “You know exactly what I'm talking about.” “You were there, you saw his everything played out—”“Stop with the pretense, father! If you didn't give them your approval they wouldn't go ahead with it in the first place,” the veins in my hand budged with each word I spoke. He removed his glasses, and placed them on the hard glass table. “Rylan, the people of Oakville pack, can't trust their life and security in the hands of someone who is fleeting.” “I am not a fleeting Lycan King—”“Then quit your hockey career, and face something more reasonably for once. What has come over you?” He asked. “We went with the best option for our pack, deal with it.” I scoffed. “So I'm not good enough?” “You have to prove it.” His tone was emotionless.
THERON'S POV “Your father would send for you shortly,” one of the gammas said, the minute he sighted me a few blocks away from the King's in-house council chambers. It was a place where the King met with other pack Alphas, and even the pack elders. Before I left, I made sure the Chefs and the other gammas that attended to me, ensured Amara came down for lunch. Still, a foreboding prickled the nerves in my body. I gave him a nod, and stood by the side of the door. The man walked into the council chambers, and came out a few minutes later, “You can go in now, Sir. Sorry for the inconveniences.” He held the door open till I stepped into the room. “Look who came to grace our presence today,” A familiar masculine tone chipped, as I sauntered further into the room. My eyes hovered all over the room, and landed on Zain who had a tough time masking the scorn that threatened to break out on his features. It was a funny sight to behold. Still, I held myself together. I wasn't about to make
THERON'S POV I was a jerk. A total jerk for first being a bully to my fated now. And even worse one for kissing her, at her vulnerable state. Fuck me for that. But, the streak of guilt fizzled out just before it had the opportunity to blossom. At first, she'd been out of breath, but I couldn't let myself get away from her. Some minutes later, I dragged my lips away from her, much to my chagrin. Something wweird blossomed in my chest, in a way that appealed a nerve in me, I thought no one could ever reach. The bottom of Ella's lips trembled, her chest heaved up and down like she wasn't used to this. I reached for her hair, sleek with sweat and tugged it behind her ears. Her cheeks were flushed. “I'm—” my voice faltered mid-sentence, when I figured I would mess everything up if I said I didn't feel bad for kissing her. My wolf stirred inside of me, excited and giddy. The mate bond might be broken, but he still wanted her. No, he needed her and he needed her badly. Ella snapped he
RIONA'S POV The walk out of the pack, to the garage was nerve-wracking. My chest churned with a thousand splinting thoughts. For goodness sake! How did I miss it? How come my so-called Volana wolf didn't sense there was something wrong. I stirred on the seat, trying to reach out to her, to feel her presence. But she'd secluded herself in the deepest place of my mind. My lips straightened into a thin line. My eyes were swollen from the sting of tears that had flooded down my cheeks. My world was gone. I bunched, snapping back to real life when I felt a hand curl around my shoulder. I snapped my head to the side, and my eyes fell directly on Christopher's eyes. Those magnetic eyes held a thousand words that he was willing to let out of his mouth. Without saying a word, he nudged me into the car. I stiffened at first, a tad bit reluctant to go into the car. If I did, that would mean depriving myself of the closure from my mom's death. I opened my mouth to speak, instead tears rushed
THERON'S POV Anger simmered in my veins, as I waited for her in my office. First, I harbour her in and hold myself back from acting on my emotions. And now what? She calls the shot? I tapped my fingers angrily against the table. My eyes fixed solely on the wall clock as it ticked. Two more minutes. Two more minutes, until I lose it all on her. Suddenly, a shrill knock sounded against the door. I stiffened on my chair, and rested my back against the headrest. I waited. The door pushed open, and she walked in. I rubbed my hand against the bridge of my nose. Her sensual scent ripped through my core, leaving a whirlwind of tornadoes swirling through my core. My hands curled into a fist. “Where have you been?” My words were calm, if her gaze wasn't boring a deep hole in my chest, she might miss the outburst that was about to erupt. No response. I stomped my hands against the table, rounded it and walked up to her. “I just asked you a goddamn question!” My tone seethed with defiance.
RIONA'S POV The minute he pushed the door open, I clamped my eyes shut. My eyes were devoid of sleep. His presence awakened a delicate nerve in me I didn't know needed awakening. All my life, I'd been living in a facade of what I thought was mine. My mother had died during my birth. And nobody talked about her true identity. The Silver Moon pack was known for their incredible strength. It was a rare abilities that could only be possessed by them. And now? My birth mother was a part of that clan. What more didn't I know about myself? Shifting into my wolf form as thirteen was enough strange occurrence. But this was nothing like I'd envisioned. In school, we were taught sparsely about them. I’d been so enthralled about their very existence. Their show of strength. Still, I bet I didn't prepare myself enough for this odd plot twist. My intestines churned, and bile sloshed in my stomach. That meant…Suddenly, my entire insides froze, and my thoughts jumbled up. I felt Alpha Theron's
THERON'S POV Riona's eyebrows furrowed into a deep frown. “Wh-wh-what—” she stuttered as her voice trailed off. I pulled at a strand of her hair, and she shoved my hands aside. I grunted in sheer disapproval. If there was something I loathed, that would be blatant protest. Especially from a female that was at loss for her own identity. Anger ripped through my spine. I was equal parts infuriated, and equal parts fascinated. Fascinated at her courage to sneak into my study unnoticed. How'd she bypass the warriors to start with? How'd she get her hands on the journal? Did she have someone telling her about her identity? So many questions rummaged through me. I swear by the moon goddess, I was going to find the culprit if there was anyone feeding her some sensitive information. “Can I go now?” She spat, when she finally found her tongue. Surprise flickered through my core, but I pushed it to the farthest back of my mind, and locked it off. “Riona, you have no say in this pack house—
