The lunch bell rang, and students entered into the hallways, making their way toward the cafeteria to eat lunch.
Lily gathered her books, trying to hide her reluctance to leave the classroom because it meant going to eat in the school compound under the big tree to eat.
She and Maya usually found a quiet spot in the courtyard for lunch—a place where they could enjoy their food without any prying eyes or harsh words.
She didn't know if it was the right thing to do now that she was Luna, but she preferred not to think about it too much.
Maya walked beside her, talking about an upcoming project in chemistry class she hopes they can work together on when Alex suddenly appeared in front of them, flashing a warm smile.
“Hey, Lily.” He said, a beaming smile on his face. "Would you mind introducing me to your beautiful friend?"
Maya flushed and Lily could tell that she liked getting compliments from Alex.
"Where are my manners, Alex, this is Maya, my best friend in the whole world, and Maya this is our exchange student Alex. He's an alpha in his own pack" Lily said, introducing both of them and watched as they shook hands.
"It's really nice to meet you" Maya said then brushed off a strand of hair from her face.
"Likewise" Alex replied. "Any friend of Lily is a friend of mine from now on."
Lily felt so safe and guarded just standing close to him and she wished she could be in his presence for a little while longer but she really needed to eat lunch before the bell rang again.
"Well, we're off, see you later" Lily said with a wave but Alex stopped her.
He stared at them both, his gaze lingering on Lily.
“i wanted to ask if you would mind joining me and my friends in the cafeteria today?” he inquired.
Maya’s eyes lit up instantly.
“Oh, really? Sure, that’d be fun!” She nudged Lily’s arm, eager for her friend to agree.
But Lily’s stomach twisted with unease.
The idea of walking into the cafeteria, where she hadn’t set foot in years, filled her with dread.
She still remembered all the times she’d been mocked, the whispered insults, the constant judgment.
Even now, as Luna, she couldn’t imagine that crowd of hateful pack members accepting her.
“Uh, thanks, Alex, but we actually have a spot outside we usually go to…” Lily stammered, looking down.
Alex tilted his head, clearly picking up on her discomfort. He stepped closer, lowering his voice.
“You’ll be fine, Lily. I promise. I wouldn’t let anything happen to you.” His reassuring tone softened the edge of her fears, and for a moment, she felt herself consider it.
Maya gave her a hopeful look.
“Come on, Lil. It could be fun. Besides, Alex invited us and we certainly can't refuse an invite. It's rude to do such a thing”
Lily hesitated.
“It’s just… If I go there, people will laugh or… worse.”
Alex’s brow furrowed in concern.
“They won’t,” he said firmly. “And if they do, they’ll have me to answer to.” He offered his hand with a gentle smile. “Trust me.”
Before she could overthink, he took her hand in his, offering a reassuring squeeze that almost made her melt to his touch.
The warmth of his touch made her feel oddly safe, as if her fears were somehow less daunting.
Maya glanced at their joined hands, her eyes bright with excitement.
“Let’s go, then!” she said, practically pulling Lily forward.
As they made their way to the cafeteria, Lily couldn’t ignore the nervous flutter in her stomach.
She knew what awaited her on the other side of those doors: the stares, the whispers, the silent judgments. And she couldn’t help but wonder what Lucas and Liam would think if they saw her walking in hand-in-hand with another Alpha.
On the other hand, she thought, they might not even care, besides, they had told her that everything was just playing pretend and she was free to do whatever she wanted.
"It's now or never" Lily muttered to herself.
The cafeteria was buzzing with energy as students talked and laughed over their trays of food.
The moment Lily, Alex and Maya walked in, however, a hush seemed to settle over the room.
Heads turned, and Lily felt hundreds of eyes on her. Her grip tightened on Alex’s hand, but he gave her a gentle squeeze in return.
People began to murmur, their voices carrying an edge of surprise and disbelief.
“Is that Lily? With Alex?” “Why is she holding his hand?” “Isn’t she… the Luna?”
At the far end of the cafeteria, she spotted Lucas and Liam, surrounded by their friends.
Their expressions went from bored to sharply focused, their eyes narrowing as they took in the sight of her and Alex.
She could practically feel their anger radiating across the room, but this time, it only strengthened her resolve.
Let them watch, she thought. Let them see her standing with someone who genuinely cared.
A faint hint of triumph rose within her—a feeling she hadn’t experienced in years.
She straightened her posture, finally meeting the gazes around her, refusing to cower as she had in the past.
Alex led her and Maya to a table where his friends were seated, their welcoming smiles easing some of her lingering anxiety.
They introduced themselves, each one offering her and Maya a friendly greeting.
“Welcome to the ‘cool kids’ table,” one of Alex’s friends teased with a grin, making everyone chuckle.
As they sat down, Lily felt an unexpected sense of belonging.
Alex’s friends treated her like she was one of them, like she mattered.
It was refreshing, almost surreal, to be around people who didn’t judge her for her past or her title.
Maya leaned close, whispering, “See? This isn’t so bad, right?”
Lily smiled, nodding. “Yeah. It’s… it’s nice.”
But as she glanced across the room, her eyes met Lucas’s and Liam’s once more.
They both looked furious, their expressions unreadable, and she felt a shiver run down her spine.
She knew this wasn’t the end of it.
I need y'all's support. So please show me some love 🥺✨❤️🌈
The low hum of chatter in the cafeteria was abruptly cut short when Lucas and Liam rose from their table and walked across the room toward Lily, Maya, Alex, and his friends. The sight was enough to make the other students turn their heads, sensing that something significant was about to unfold. Lily’s stomach twisted with dread, and she set down her fork, exchanging a worried glance with Maya.Alex, however, seemed calm, unaware of the intense tension that was quickly building. He continued eating with a casual ease, glancing at Lucas and Liam only when they came to stand directly in front of the table. The twins looked down at Alex with hard, assessing gazes. Their confidence and barely contained hostility filled the air, and Lily felt herself instinctively brace for what was to come. She knew Lucas and Liam well enough to recognize when they were on the verge of confrontation.“Hello, everyone,” Lucas said, his voice carrying an edge as he scanned the faces at the table. “In ca
Lily’s room was dimly lit, casting warm, golden shadows across the walls as she stood before her mirror, carefully combing her hair. She stared at her reflection, her thoughts a gentle whirl of emotions as she recalled Alex’s defense of her that day in the cafeteria. A soft smile appeared at her lips, a mixture of gratitude and something else she couldn’t quite name. It felt good, so incredibly good, to have someone see her and stand up for her, to remind her that she wasn’t invisible. She didn’t understand exactly why Alex’s gesture had made her so happy. After all, she barely knew him, and she had never thought herself the kind to be swayed by a stranger’s kindness. Yet, something about his confidence, the steady way he’d held his ground against the twins—it had sparked a fire inside her she hadn’t known was there. Maybe, she thought, just maybe, she wasn’t as alone as she’d felt all this time.Just as she was beginning to lose herself in the thought, a knock sounded at her doo
The morning was a still, quiet one, with the first rays of dawn just beginning to filter through Lily's bedroom window. She stared at herself in the mirror, straightening her uniform and squaring her shoulders as she steeled herself for the day. Her thoughts were set on one thing: she was tired of being treated like an afterthought, someone who didn’t belong. As she went downstairs, she found Lucas and Liam waiting by the front door, leaning casually against the wall. They straightened when they saw her approach.“I want a separate car to school,” she declared, keeping her tone even but firm.Lucas raised an eyebrow, and Liam scoffed. “What for?” he asked, folding his arms.Lily met their stares, unflinching. “Because I’m tired of being dropped off in some hidden corner of the school just because you two don’t want to be seen with me. If you’re so ashamed, let me have my own car.”For a moment, silence stretched between them, the twins exchanging a look. She half-expected them to
Lily took a deep, shaky breath, wiping away the last traces of her tears as Alex’s concerned gaze remained on her. He was patient, not pressing her, just waiting for her to speak when she was ready. His gentle presence was grounding, allowing her to ease into the silence between them before she finally found the words."Whenever you feel like it, just feel free to tell me what's wrong and I won't hesitate to listen to you" Alex said as he held Lily tighter.“It’s my mom,” she admitted quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. “She… she has a way of making me feel like everything I have, I owe to her. Like I don’t deserve anything on my own.”Alex’s expression softened, a sympathetic understanding flickering in his eyes. “I get it,” he said, his tone gentle. “My mom’s… similar in some ways. She’s always reminded me of the sacrifices she made for me. It’s like there’s this silent expectation that I have to live a certain way to honor that.”Lily looked at him in surprise, not having
Lily’s head began spinning as she found herself cornered by Lucas and Liam, the hard glares from her mates piercing into her with an intensity that left her unsettled. She had barely had a moment to catch her breath but the twins seemed determined to confront her, their eyes blazing with barely-contained anger.“What the hell do you think you’re doing, Lily?” Lucas spat, his voice low but brimming with fury. His fists were clenched tightly at his sides, his gaze unwavering as he waited for her to answer.Lily swallowed, struggling to keep her voice steady. “I told you, I was just talking to Alex,” she stammered, her words faltering under their scathing stares. “There’s nothing wrong with that.”Liam scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest as he leaned closer, his eyes narrowing.“Nothing wrong?” he sneered. She felt a surge of indignation rise within her, and she fought to hold her ground, even as her heart hammered in her chest. “It’s not like that! Back at the mansion, Lily found herself standing in the large living room alongside Lucas and Liam, their heads down as their father’s seething gaze bore into them. The silence hung thick in the air, as if waiting to be shattered by the wrath that simmered just below the surface.Their father clenched his fists, his jaw set in a hard line as he surveyed the three of them with a mixture of fury and disappointment. When he finally spoke, his voice was low but laced with an undeniable edge. “Do you have any idea what you’ve done? You’re setting a disgraceful example for the rest of the pack" He said, his fury threatening to destroy them both.It was obvious that he was disappointed in his son's behavior for engaging in a fight in school grounds where they could easily be spotted. If it was left to him, he wouldn't be angry if they had fought where no one could see them. It was normal for Alphas to fight but it was an embarrassment to get caught.Liam shifted uncomfortably beside Lily,
The mansion was quiet, the faint sounds of the night coming in through the windows as Lily moved silently down the hallway, her footsteps soft against the floor. She had waited until she was sure everyone was asleep, listening carefully until silence had settled over the house. Her mind was a storm of conflicting emotions, and there was only one person she felt she could talk to about it, even if he was partly to blame for the confusion inside her.Taking a deep breath, she found herself standing outside Lucas’s door, her heart pounding as she lifted her hand to knock. She wasn’t entirely sure why she felt the need to see him tonight, but the lingering memory of him standing between her and his father kept pulling her back, refusing to let her sleep. The door opened, and there stood Lucas, his expression unreadable, his brows slightly raised in surprise. Lily sat alone in the back corner of the school courtyard. The day had been tiring and her mind was a mess of regret when she saw Liam and his parents go into the principal's office.
