Unspoken Words

The room buzzed with light chatter as students filed in for their shared history class.

Lily sat in her usual spot near the back, trying to keep a low profile.

She felt a strange mixture of tension and relief in this classroom, as it was one of the few places she could steal a few minutes with her friend Maya without the prying eyes of the twins or Lexa.

It was some kind of a happy place for her. She didn't care if it made her seem like a nerd.

As she set her books down, Maya slid into the seat next to her with an eager grin. She was really excited to see her, especially after what had happened the previous night during the moon goddess festival.

“Lily! I’ve been dying to talk to you!” she whispered, her eyes alight with curiosity. “What’s it like being Luna now? And mated to the Alpha twins?” She waggled her eyebrows mischievously, clearly expecting some juicy details.

Lily forced a small smile, trying to hide her discomfort.

“It’s... fine,” she replied, keeping her tone light and nonchalant. “Pretty normal, really.”

Maya’s face fell slightly.

“Normal? Come on, Lily! You’re officially Luna of the pack, and mated to two bullying Alphas! How is that normal?” She asked, curious to know how Lily us truly dealing with everything.

“It’s hard to explain,” Lily said softly, avoiding her friend’s gaze. The last thing she wanted was for Maya to see through her facade. “Everything happened so fast, and there’s just... a lot going on. I guess I’m still getting used to it.”

Maya sighed but nodded, understanding her friend’s reluctance to talk openly.

“Alright, I get it,” she said, giving Lily’s arm a gentle squeeze. “But if you ever want to talk, you know I’m here. Luna or not, you’re still my best friend.”

A genuine smile broke across Lily’s face.

“Thanks, Maya. That means a lot.”

The comfort of their conversation was quickly shattered when the door swung open, and Lucas and Liam entered, followed by Lexa.

The three of them walked in with a sense of arrogance that made Lily’s stomach twist.

Their eyes scanned the room before settling on her and Maya, and an unsettling grin spread across Lucas’s face.

“Oh, look who it is,” Lucas began, his voice loud enough for everyone to hear. “Lily and her little friend. What’s your name again? Maya?”

Lily stiffened, but Maya kept her head down, pretending not to hear.

Lucas wasn’t one to give up so easily, though. He stepped closer, gesturing toward Maya with a smirk.

“You know, Lily, I didn’t realize you’d keep hanging around with such... boring company.”

Liam chuckled, crossing his arms as he leaned against a nearby desk.

“Yeah, it’s almost sad, really. You’re Luna now, Lily. You don’t have to waste time with someone as... uncool as her.”

Maya’s cheeks flushed, and she looked down, clearly hurt by their words.

Lily felt a surge of anger rise within her, and before she could stop herself, she spoke up.

“Maya’s my friend, and she’s anything but boring. You don’t know her, so stop acting like you do.”

Lucas raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by her defiance.

“Oh, so the Luna has a bit of bite to her now?” he sneered. “I didn’t realize you had so much to say.”

Lexa took a step forward, her gaze icy as she crossed her arms.

“You might be Luna now, but don’t get any ideas,” she spat. “You’re still nobody here. Don’t think we won’t put you in your place.”

Lily’s heart pounded, but she met Lexa’s glare with unwavering determination.

“Go ahead, Lexa,” she replied, her voice steady. “Keep talking to me like that and see what happens.”

Lexa’s jaw tightened, and she took a step closer, her eyes flashing with anger. But before she could retort, Liam placed a hand on her shoulder, holding her back.

“Enough,” he said, his voice low and controlled. “Let it go.”

Lexa shot Lily a murderous glare before backing down, though her expression made it clear that this was far from over.

Liam turned to Lily, his eyes narrowing.

“Watch yourself, Lily,” he warned. “You might be our Luna, but that doesn’t mean you can mouth off without consequences. Mind your business, or you’ll regret it.”

Lily felt her heart drop, and she bit her lip, forcing herself to stay silent.

The last thing she wanted was to push them any further.

She glanced at Maya, who gave her a small, reassuring smile, but the tension between them was palpable.

Before anyone else could say anything, the door opened, and Mr. Reed, their history teacher, entered the room.

The students quickly shuffled to their seats, and Lily was grateful for the distraction.

As Mr. Reed started taking attendance, Lily took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing heart.

“Class, we have a new student joining us today,” Mr. Reed announced, drawing everyone’s attention. “Please welcome Alex, who’s transferred here as part of an alliance program.”

Lily’s heart skipped a beat as Alex stepped into the room, his gaze scanning the students before landing on her.

His eyes softened, and he offered her a warm smile. She couldn’t help but smile back, feeling a sense of relief at the sight of him.

She wasn’t the only one who noticed. Lucas and Liam exchanged a dark look, their expressions hardening as they followed her gaze to Alex.

Lily glanced away, hoping they hadn’t picked up on her reaction, but the intensity in their stares told her they had.

Alex took a seat a few rows in front of her, but before he turned around, he shot her another quick smile.

She felt her cheeks flush, unable to ignore the flutter in her chest.

“Alright, class, let’s get started,” Mr. Reed said, drawing their attention back to the lesson.

But as he began teaching on the day’s topic, Lily couldn’t shake the tension that lingered in the room, nor the feeling that this was only the beginning of something much more complicated.
