Back to the present and away from his thoughts, Alex picked up his phone and called Amelia.

"Hi Amelia," he said when she answered. "I just wanted to check in. Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, Alex. I’m in my office," Amelia replied, her voice tired but warm. "What's going on?"
