Chapter One.
Natasha
Loud music poured out from the speakers placed at specific positions around the bar.
“A glass of Black Martini, please,” I said to the bartender with a flirtatious smile. He smiled back, his gaze slipping down my face and to my cleavage.
“This one's on me,” he said with a wink.
I faked a smile, grabbed the glass and turned away with a “thank you.”
Barcon wasn't as noisy as it usually was on other days. I gulped down the content of my glass, and glanced around the bar. My gaze finally landed on a guy seated a few tables from mine. He nursed his glance of wine, while scrolling through his phone.
Although he wasn't so handsome, he wasn't bad looking either. He'd serve my purpose just fine.
I approached him, already feeling tipsy.
“Hey handsome, care for a dance?” I asked coquettishly.
“I'm afraid not...” He began saying as he lifted his head up. A dazed look crossed his face, before his eyes lit up almost immediately.
“Of course.” He said, rising to his feet.
He grabbed my arm, and led me over to the dance floor.
I discovered almost immediately that my choice was the wrong one. Soon enough, he began filling my ears with tales of his family's wealth.
I rolled my eyes, completely bored. “Wanna get down on me?” I wrapped my arms around his neck, and whispered close to his ears.
He nodded.
I turned to leave, when I felt the hairs on my neck stand on end. His scent permeated around me, before I saw him.
“I didn't think I'd stumble into the Princess of Gavemorth at a bar. And dancing with a human too.” He said.
I whirled around, my eyes blazing.
“Go fuck yourself, Kai.” I hissed.
Kai.
Prince of the Shadowers Kai. My enemy Kai.
With my mood ruined, I decided to call it a night, and return back to Gavemorth. I flashed the human guy an apologetic look, and made to leave.
“You don't have to inconvenience yourself for my sake, you know.” Kai drawled.
I looked at him more closely. Button down black shirt, and black jeans. Tousled hair.
“You think so highly of yourself, Kai. Get out of my way.” I ordered, crossing my arms.
“There are many exits out of this bar, Pest. Except of course,” he moved closer. “You want me to accompany you.”
A sound that came close to a growl escaped my throat, as I sidestepped him.
My heartbeat accelerated as I headed towards the bathroom.
“Hey, I didn't think you'd leave without me.” I heard someone say, and turned to see my dance partner from earlier on.
I cursed beneath my breath, and turned to face him.
“I'm afraid I'll have to. Maybe we'd meet again sometime.” I said, struggling to keep my hands away from strangling the fucker.
“But I want you.” He insisted.
“Which part of ‘next time’ do you not understand? Now, if you'll excuse me.” I said exasperatedly, and turned to leave.
Thankfully, he didn't stop me. Cleaning up the remains of a dead human was sure to delay my return to Gavemorth.
I pushed the door to the first restroom open, and sauntered in, only to freeze midway.
“What.The.Fuck.Are.You.Doing.Here?” I gritted out.
”Using the restroom, what else?” Kai replied, with that signature annoying smirk of his, as he casually leaned on the wall.
“This is the female restroom. Are you really seeking a way to piss me off, Kai?” I asked with narrowed eyes.
'Cause he was doing a great job at it already.
“Piss you off?” He retorted with a scoff, as he approached me calmly.
I subconsciously took a step back with each step of his, until my back hit the wall.
“What do you think you're doing?” I huffed.
“The door is close to you, Pest,” he gestured at the door. “Or maybe, you have another idea in mind.” He finished off with a wink.
I straightened, staring him straight in the eye.
“I hate you, Kai. Why would I have another idea in mind?” I scoffed.
His eyes glinted, but he didn't respond. Instead, he inched closer to me. My heartbeat accelerated, as I struggled to remain calm.
“Pest, there's a thin line between hate and passion.” He smirked.
I made a face. “You’re right. There's a very thin line between wanting to gut your stomach out, and wanting to rip your tongue out.”
His eyes darkened. “Move out of the way,” he ordered in a low voice.
And though the dominant side of me hated doing as he wished, I moved away still. That was better off than spending another minute with him in the same space.
Without another word, he left the restroom.
I let out a hiss and walked over to the large mirror. My reflection glared back at me. I'd always hated Kai for as long as I could remember.
Maybe it was because we were too similar in many ways, and had the same Alpha traits.
My phone dinged, and I slipped it out. It was a message from Friya, my friend.
‘Mother is searching for you.’ It read.
That was all the prompting I needed. I was planning to return anyway, thanks to a ruined night. And now I was going to return home with the sexual urge I came with.
I hissed again, making a mental note to twist Kai's neck if I encountered him again. Another look at the mirror, and I left the restroom.
★★★
The night was starry and serene. Few people loitered the street. I walked easily in my heels like they were a second leg, until I rounded a corner. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end, and I quickly ducked. A metallic ball flew over my head, and hit the wall a few meters away.
The tang of magic loitered in the air, as I whirled around with a furious look.
“Coward,” I spat, changing into my usual attire.
I pulled my bow and arrow, and arched at a nearby tree. A dull ache hit the back of my neck, and I fell to the ground.
“No one speaks to me in an arrogant manner, Pest. Especially not a scrawny heiress who thinks she's worthy enough to be my opponent.” Kai sneered, as he stepped away from the tree.
My blood boiled over at the sound of Kai's voice. I slowly rose to my feet, and took a fighting stance.
I already wanted to let out my anger anyway.
I threw my bow to the floor, and cocked my head.
We closed in, and he gave a low blow, hitting me on the stomach just as I hit him on the chest. We both staggered back, the sheer force of our strength, intense.
We threw punches at each other, drawing blood, our faces set in an angry line.
I hit him on his nose, drawing blood. He staggered back with a groan.
“Now, who's scrawny?” I asked with a triumphant scoff.
Gloating in my victory, I didn't see his hand inch towards my leg, until I lost my balance and fell against his body. We both fell to the floor, with me atop.
The world seemed to slow down, as I stared at the features which were well…Kai.
I had a migraine. That'd be the only explanation to why I suddenly thought Kai was handsome. His almond eyes, well chiseled jaw, and that lips which seemed to beckon to-
Come off it, Natasha.
My lips inched down towards his.
Close.
Closer.
I could smell the faint hint of oud on his being. My hands slowly traced the side of his neck, as I bent my head lower. A few more seconds, and we'd kiss.
His eyes burned with intensity, but he said nothing.
“Are you resorting to seducing me, since you can't defeat me?” I heard Kai suddenly ask from below me. His words snapped me back to sanity.
I pushed off his body, smoothing off my attire.
“The next time you provoke me, I can't promise it'd end with just a few punches, Natasha. Steer clear off my path.” He said, rising to his feet.
“And you could do well with some fighting lessons.” He added, disdain written over his facial features. With that, he vanished.
I blinked once. Then twice, as what almost happened coursed through my mind.
I'd almost kissed him.
What the hell had I been thinking?
My heart was still racing by the time I stopped at the entrance that led to Gavemorth.
Lost in thoughts, I approached the lake. I made a portal, and stepped through it.
Praying that I wouldn't run into my mother, I slipped through the castle gates, and headed straight for the trees behind the walls.
I could climb over, and slip into my room from there.
“I’m sure you wouldn't mind telling me where you're coming from, Natasha Jace.” I heard a calm voice call out, halting me in my tracks.
I took a deep breath, and turned around to an older version of myself.
Queen Belinda, queen of Gavemorth.
“Hi, Mother.” I said awkwardly, inwardly cursing Kai. If he hadn't intercepted me, I'd have been home earlier than now.
“That doesn't explain anything. Where are you coming from?”
Chapter Two. Natasha“I have no intention of changing my mind, Mother. You still have a long way to go, before descending from your position as queen. I don't want to become your successor,” I snapped, not bothering to hide the biting edge in my voice. She winced, and leaned down to gently raise her cup of tea from the table. I watched as she slowly brought it to her lips and took a sip. “I don't remember seeking your permission, Nat.” She said quietly. But beneath that calm facade, I could sense her boiling anger. I took a deep breath, and leaned against the sofa. After scolding me about my constant visits to the human realm, she'd asked to have a discussion with me. And here we were. “Mother, anyone could have the throne. I don't care.” I retorted. I was sorry for speaking to her in that manner, yet I wasn't.She remained silent for a while, and then holding my gaze she asked, “Even Calise?” My gaze turned sharp, and I straightened on my seat. A gnawi
Chapter Three. Natasha Stepping through the gates of the Academy was like walking into a different world. Towering stonewalled buildings, with winding staircases that led to their individual entrances. My eyes widened when I spotted flying gargoyles in the sky. I ignored my guide, as he warned me to stay close. And regretted it almost immediately. I ducked just in time as one headed straight for me. My knee scraped the gravel floor, and I cursed. “And you didn't deem it fit to warn me?” I hissed, rising to my feet. Thankfully, my pants had lessened the effect of my fall. “I told you to stay close. The gargoyles are hostile to non-students.” He said, and that was it. He didn't offer further information. He led me to one of the buildings that stood out. If I'd thought the Academy was majestic on the exterior, then the word for the interior would be; grand. Breathtaking. Paintings adorned the wall, and I let myself admire them as my guide led me
Chapter Four. Kai Natasha's face turned pale as Kaleb walked into the room. I tuned out the rest of their words, while I struggled to keep my anger at bay. Natasha at the Dark Realm Royal Academy? I pushed off the sofa and walked out of the room. They could kill themselves for all I cared. The hallway was unusually silent, courtesy of the first week of resumption. I rounded up a corner, and pushed the door open. “A knock would do, Sir Kai,” Sir Patrick said leisurely, without lifting his head from the book he was reading. “Take Natasha to another dorm.” I said straightforwardly. He finally lifted his head. “And why would I do that?” He countered. I took a step closer to him, slamming both hands on the table before him. He didn't flinch. I held his gaze as I gritted out the words. “Switch her dorm. The sight of her irks me.” “The only alternative is taking her to Dorm Beige.” He said with a sigh. I scoffed. “So? Isn't the Academy all about t
Chapter Five NatashaThe shock only lasted for a few seconds, before I pushed him off my body. His lips tugged up in an unrepentant smirk. Our lips had merely touched, and couldn't qualify as a kiss, but repulsion crawled over my skin. “Did you just kiss me?” It was a stupid question. But my brain wasn't moving in sync with my mouth. The question was out before I could stop it.“Head back to the dorm, Natasha. Now.” Kai ordered. The smirk had long disappeared, and he was now looking around warily. But I was way past caring about whatever was happening around the Academy.“If you don't answer my question, I'll break your jaw, by the Goddess.” My chest heaved. His watch had begun glowing again, and I observed it without appearing to.“It was barely a kiss. Don't think highly of yourself, Pest. I've kissed many girls, than I can probably keep count of.” He scoffed.I shook my head. Of course he had.“Don’t give me that crap.” I rasped, raising my forefinger. B
Natasha.“I’m sorry,” I apologized in a flustered manner, attempting to brush off the uniform of the student I'd just bumped into. Buried in my thoughts on my way to my seat, I hadn't seen her, the result was a glowering blonde looking at me with a look that could kill.“Sorry?” she repeated, disgust lacing her tone as she looked at me over. She held my wrist when I attempted to smoothen her uniform once more. “Don’t you dare touch me with those hands of yours.”I was inwardly seething with rage, but for the fact that I was the one who'd hit her first, not the other way round, I tried to maintain my calm.“I already said sorry. I was thinking about something.” I said, praying she'd just let it go.“Thinking? Hear that guys?!” She raised her voice for the benefit of other students, and her cohorts who were popping chewing gum beside her.She moved closer to me, and jabbed a finger at my chest. To my credit, I didn't lose my calm.“And what could a new stud
Xavier.‘Don’t do it.’ My inner voice warned. I watched as the boy led Natasha out of the class. She didn't look good, with bruises covered over her body. I didn't care. She'd learn how to fight as time went by. But for now, even with all the strength she boasted, she was still weak compared to an average student of the Academy. I claimed that I didn't care, yet my tie seemed tighter than usual. And I wasn't even putting on a tie. They walked past me, and the boy dipped his head differentially, but Natasha walked past. A new rage brimmed within me, more at the fact that Natasha hadn't noticed me, than at the fact that the boy had saved her.I should've been the one to. Wait-I shook my head, and donned on my non passive look before walking into the class. The girl was still giggling over her triumph. Her back was turned towards the entrance of the class so she didn't notice my entrance until one of her cohorts gestured towards my direction. Her
KaiShe hadn't seen me. I stood behind a tree far away from the garden, and watched as an unfamiliar guy tended to her. She was obviously in pain, but that wasn't the reason for my sudden anger. But what business of mine was it if my enemy was in pain? I didn't know how long I stood there for, but my chest twisted as she laughed at something the guy said. Before I could stop myself, I beelined towards them with a determined expression. “Should you be out here?” I deadpanned. Startled, the guy scrambled to his feet and bowed hurriedly. Natasha remained sitting like she hadn't seen me. “Sir Kai,” the guy said.“Do I have to repeat my question?” I asked, with a glint in my eyes. “Um, Lady Natasha had-”“The lady can speak for herself, or is our new student deaf and dumb?” I asked, still staring hard at her.No response.“How would you like your punishment, Sir-?” I cocked my head.“Aaron.” He replied weakly.“Aaron,” I repeated, stroking the rim of my
Kaleb The hall was eerily dark, with soft cold air flowing in through the opened shutters. Different masked men trooped into the meeting room. We were all dressed in the normal black midnight cloaks and a black ski masks to hide our individual identities. No one knew each other in the Sacred Order, even if you might be best friends outside. Inside here, no one was your friend. We were asked to keep the secret of the society from everyone including our spouses and close friends. No one here knew me. Or maybe they did… But it didn't matter. We were strangers to each other. Strangers who wouldn’t hesitate to kill each other. People who wouldn't hesitate to drive a sword into another's back without hesitation, all for a higher rank. I sat on my chair, my leg bouncing beneath my cloak. I was extremely hot inside, and goddess knew how I hated wearing this damned costume to this fucked up meeting. The head of the society was nowhere near the arena and we were already full and waiti
The next few days following my claiming Kacie back has been the best days of my whole life.Going on dates, having sex countless times and to conclude it all, she and Rafiq became so close I feared she won't have time for me anymore. I've been begging her like forever to move back in but at the end she would just say "I'm not ready yet, and I'm working now.”So our everyday routine is:she comes to my house whenever she's off work, spend time with Rafiq and me which is never enough and then I'll drive her back home.“Hey.” I said to a very surprised Kacie clad in just a towel. We were supposed to go out on a date by ten but here I am standing before her eight on a dot. Don't blame me, I can't help it. I can't even concentrate in the office if Kacie isn't beside me.“Hi." She said slowly when the surprise of seeing me wear off then she stepped back to allow me inside.“Are you aware you're two hours early?"“Two hours? I'm a little late if I came two hours before the agreed time.” I wal
“Do you think you can make it to my house tonight for dinner? My father is coming over so I thought it'd be nice to invite you guys.” I asked Eshe over the phone.“Sure. Of course." She answered giggling slightly.“I would love to."“Alright. See you soon." I said then hung up.Since my father said he was coming over for dinner today two weeks after we met. I'm so eager and anxious to see him again because he travelled out for business and he wasn't around. So we couldn't see each other and catch up on the time we lost although we talked twice on phone.I rushed to ask Josh who always looked like he knows much about my father to ask him what kind of dishes my father fancies.I wasn't so surprised when he told me Italian and Chinese food. I really have many things in common with my father, Now the problem is what should I prepare?Debating for more than an hour before I finally settled down to go for bruschetta, chicken parmesan and chicken pao.I glanced at my phone, few minutes past s
“You've got any plans today?" Zayn asked me.I was about saying no when I remembered promising Josh to come over for dinner. “Yes.”I had to spend the night at Zayn's because Rafiq had begged me to and I couldn't bear to deny him his wish.He even asked me to wait and have breakfast together with them and God__It was the most awkward breakfast I've had in my entire life.If not for Miriam I sure would have lost my sanity right at the dining table. And finally after breakfast when I thought I would be free from both father and son and just head home, they both walked their way into the kitchen where I was helping nanny Miriam out with the dishes and dragged me out begging me to help Rafiq out with his maths.Actually it was only Rafiq that did the saying but I could bet my salary that his father filled his head up with words to use so I would find it hard to reject his request. And to Zayn's happiness I couldn't reject helping Rafiq which is the only reason I'm still here till noon wh
“Kacie darling, it's so nice to see you." Miriam pushed past me and engulfed Kacie in a hug.“The house hasn't been quite itself since you left." I groaned at her tone. She's been fussing the entire month, right after I kicked out the fake Alessandra to bring back Kacie and build a perfect family. She wouldn't let me have a breath comfortably without bringing up Kacie.“I'm sorry ma. I didn't mean to leave in such a manner." Kacie apologize and kissed her right cheek.“It's fine, as long as you're back now. We have a lot of catching up to do." I almost coughed. How will she react if I told her Kacie is yet to accept me back. I don't want to imagine it at all.“Are you hungry?" Miriam added leading her inside the house. I shook my head and followed them inside. It would have been perfect only if she had accepted me already, then I would be rest assured and focused on dealing with my uncle.“Where's Rafiq?” I asked coming back into the living after searching upstairs without seeing him
Looking down at my burnt waffles with sleepy eyes I cursed silently before discarding it into my trash can.I woke up few minutes to six thanks to the blazing hunger In my stomach. For the past five days I've been feeling weird: always eating, sleeping almost all the time and I suddenly developed a lazy attitude.Looking at my burnt breakfast in my trash can I hissed in frustration before grabbing a bowl. I poured enough cereal that on a normal day I won't dare to finish it, poured in enough fresh fruit and milk before walking down to the living room to eat.Who could be calling so early in the morning. I stared at my vibrating phone in annoyance before picking it up. It might be someone important.“Hello." I mouthed into the phone.“I thought you wouldn't pick up.” I pulled the phone from my ear and looked at the strange number.“Josh how many times did you change your number this month? And why are you calling me this early, You're supposed to be sleeping.”“Yes. But I just wanted t
“This restaurant looks very fancy and beautiful but...Why is it empty?” her eyes were all over scanning the empty tables around us.I acted like I was surprised too because if she knows I booked the entire restaurant for our date, she's likely to kick a fuss.“You didn't book the entire restaurant right?" Her eyes were fixed on me.“I didn't. You don't really like lemons, why are you having lemon bar for dessert?" I asked before popping an apple pie into my mouth.I had waited until my mother healed up completely before I picked a date for our date. Much to my relief she and my mother relationship are back to normal which only means one thing. I'm one step to winning my woman back.“You really know a lot about me don't you?" She was smiling.I shrugged.“You were my fiancèe for a year it would be a shame if I don't know a thing about you."She smiled again then focused her attention and continued eating on her dessert.“I want to try new things.”I nodded my head.“Might I venture to ask
I stared on as Zayn's mother breathing slowed down. I wasn't so sure if what I applied on her affected leg would help. The antidote I used was given to me by my late grandmother, I was little then__I never thought a time would come when I will have to use it. I've tried my best, the least I could do now is to wait for her to fight her way back because as it is now my life might as well be entwined with hers.I kept back the towel I used in calming her temperature down inside a bowl of water and carried it up to take it to the kitchen.“Don't you think we should take her to the hospital or should I call our family doctor?" Zayn asked from behind where he's been standing ever since I asked him to come back.“She will be fine.” I said. Even to my ears I sounded very unconvincing. “Let's leave her to rest, the venom will flow out of her system In a few minutes.” or hours.“After that you can take her to the hospital." I added so he might be at ease a little.“I'll just stay here with her.
I sat down outside patiently waiting for Kacie to return back home from work. It's been two hours past the time her shifts normally end. I'm beginning to lose my patience, I really need to see her face. To hold her hand. The sound of a car driving in pulled my head up and made me stop fidgeting with my fingers. My eyes lowered down to the hands of Greg wrapped around her tiny waist and heaven knows I want to rip his flesh out of his damn bone. They both couldn't see me where I was sitting on her stairs giving Greg dangerous glares. To crown it all he kissed her on her forehead before going into his car. Hell she was even smiling and waving at him.I sat still and waited for her to come meet me and the shock on her face seeing me sitting there with my arms folded is priceless. “What are you doing here?" She asked quietly.“What does it look like pumpkin? I'm here to see you of course."She scoffed and brushed past me going to open her door. “Are you coming in or not?"“You don't need
“What will you like please?" I asked whoever was standing before me without lifting my eyes up from the tumbler I was arranging.“Tonic and gin.”“Okay.” I turned back to the stack of drinks arranged on the shelf behind me.“Here's your drink__" my words got trapped in my throat as I stared at the man sitting before me.“Kacie?" He voiced out.“Y-Yes, I'm Kacie." I managed to say as I took the man in. Green eyes just that his were a little dark than mine. His hair color. This man sitting here__this man is my father.“Can we go out and talk, don't worry I talked to your boss already so you're free to come with me. If you want to." He added stressing out the 'if I want to'“Sure. Let's go." I ignored the voice yelling in my head that I barely know this man, I only found out two days ago that I have a father and mother other than the monster and beast who brought me up. But somehow I quickly felt safe the moment I laid my eyes on this man.I took a quick glance at Olivia who was standing
