Why don't you take a break?

 I drove home after a hectic day at the office, and it was late in the night as usual. I tiptoed into the house which was awfully silent. I didn't want my mum to see me coming home, and I successfully sneaked in but I was surprised when I saw my mum staring at me. She was seated on the couch in my room staring at the door. It was as if she had known I was going to sneak in and she was expecting me at that moment.

 I sighed heavily as I scratched the back of my neck nervously trying to come up with a lie to save myself from her, she raised her eyebrows staring at me intently. I shivered slightly under her gaze, chills of fear ran down my spine as she stared at me.

 I couldn't help but wonder how she knew I would enter the house at that moment. I should have taken the back door but I thought she would be asleep like always when I get home but she isn't.

 I don't know what excuses to come up with just to escape her ranting for tonight, I knew she was just being a caring mother to me. She was being protective for me, but she didn't know that I was doing all this for the sake of the company.

 I could feel a lump forming on my throat and I gulped down that lump. I dropped my bag on the table as I moved closer to my mum, taking a few steps I loosen the knot of my tie dropping it beside my briefcase. 

 My mum had her hand placed on her chin, it was 4am in the morning and she hasn't slept. She stayed awake just because of me. I didn't say anything but I just stared at her because I knew it was my mistake coming home by this time of the night. Heck it ain't even night. It's morning now.

 I should have slept at the office but I couldn't because then I will have to bury my face in the load of files on the table but I didn't because I knew my mum would be worried about me. She would have come to the office early in the morning just to check up on me.

 "Mum why are you still awake? You are supposed to be asleep by this time." I said as soon as I got to her, I crouched down to her level and she grabbed my ear suddenly. She pulled my ear as she stared at me angrily.

 "I had slept already and I woke up early. You are the one who hasn't slept. I checked up on you thinking you would have been in your room but I was surprised when I couldn't see you." My mum said and I sighed heavily knowing she was right that I haven't slept. She knew I can never sleep in the office because I counted them as being disrespectful, the office is a place where we work and it ain't a place to sleep and it's strictly for work only. If I sleep during the time I'm at work , the staff will also want to do that since they are looking up to me, which I don't want.

"You aren't taking care of yourself anymore, you let your job take most of your time, you don't have time for yourself. All you ever think of is work, you don't even take your health as a serious issue." My mum said as she glared at me, and then she sighed heavily.

 "If you can't keep up with the work, why don't you just take a break." My mum spoke nonchalantly and my eyes shot toward her in surprise, I couldn't believe she was talking like this. She knew I took this work seriously then why will she suggest I take a break. I hugged her and she patted my back. I need to make her worry less about me.

 "Mum you don't have to be worried about me, I'm totally fine" I said as I hugged her tightly.

 "You said that you are fine but look at you, you have been overworking yourself since and haven't given yourself a break." My mum said and I felt my body stiffened as I heard her words.

 "Mum don't worry, I have wanted to get a new assistant and I will start recruiting them. I will take a person who can help me and not some lazy ass who would sit at the office doing nothing. As long as I get a good assistant I won't bother myself about staying late at the office." I said and she nodded happily as she disengaged from the hug. I could tell she was happy with her reaction, she was really worried about me anymore. She hummed in response.

 "Find the perfect candidate and put your mind at rest, who will be able to help you with all your work?'' My mom said as she stared at me, caressing my face, with a smile.

 "Mum, don't worry about me, I will be alright. And, I need to take a cold shower to be able to sleep. You know I need to wake up early to recruit the assistant I wanted to recruit." I said as I sat on my bed. 

"Good night mum" I said and she laughed at what I said.

 "It's morning already, so see you in the morning, '' My mum said and I nodded in response. She walked out of the room and I breathed a sigh of relief knowing she isn't in the room anymore.

 I walked into the bathroom and had a hot shower. I walked out of the bathroom and wore my pyjamas. I jumped on the bed for a while to get three hours of sleep before going to the office.

 I woke up with my body feeling refreshed and a smile formed on my face. It's been a long time since I felt like this. I looked around and I couldn't find my alarm clock on the table, and a gasp escaped my mouth immediately when I saw the time.

 It was 12:00 pm and I couldn't help but wonder why the alarm didn't go off. I then remembered that it wasn't there when I woke up so I knew it was my mum who was at work. She must have set the alarm when I fell asleep, and she just successfully ruined my day. I had a lot of things to do at the office and she let me sleep like a log of wood. 

 I stood up from the bed abruptly and walked down the stairs trying to know where she was and I was glad I found her on time. She was in the kitchen giving instructions to the maids. I pulled her away from the maids walking toward a corner.

 "Mum, why did you take away my alarm?" I asked and she shrugged her shoulders like it's a common thing. She grabbed my ear and twisted it, and I cried out in pain.

 "Can't you greet? Where are your manners?" She said as she spanked my head and I moaned in pain.

 "Good afternoon, mum" I greeted with an eye roll.

 "Good afternoon, you were talking about how I took away your alarm?" she asked with a dramatic pause and I nodded.

 "Don't you know you need more sleep, you haven't been sleeping since way too long. You only think about work but now that you slept well how are you feeling?" She asked as she stared at my face.

 "I have called your assistant to cancel all the meetings you have for today and reschedule it for tomorrow. You can have a day off" My mum said and I looked at her with wide eyes.

 "If you are thinking about the interview I had personally chosen three people who will be taking the interview for your assistant, so you don't have to be worried" my mom said and I smiled at her happily with a smile beaming from each side of my face.

"Thanks mum," I said and she smiled at me, and I left her there smiling. I did had a great sleep and i have already taken half day off but i will still go to the office today, and nothing will stop me from going. I will go to the company to check if the work is going smoothly.

 I walked down the flight of stairs as I headed toward the dining room, and I sat down at the dining room watching as the maid served the food.

 "Where are you heading to?" My mum asked as she eyed me suspiciously.

 "To the office of course" I said and she stared at me as she shook her head sadly.

 "You won't change, I told you to take a day off but you wouldn't listen." My mum said as she saw me walk away from the house.

 "Mum good-bye, I need to go." I said as I pecked her check before walking into the garage. As much as I wanted to take a break I know I need to keep an eye on all the workers myself. I walked up to a red Lamborghini, and I ignited the engine. 

 I drove to the company humming to the sound being played in front of the radio. I was tired but that doesn't mean I should neglect my duties.

 After a few minutes I reached the company and then parked my car in the garage. I entered the company and all the workers stared at me confusedly because they were informed by my mother that I will not come today.

 "Good afternoon, sir" they greeted and I nodded my head in response to all the workers who greeted me. I walked towards my secretary and he was shocked to see me but was quick to compose himself. He greeted me and I hummed and asked about the things which have happened in my absence.

 After hearing the report on everything and getting to know the interview was still going on as none of them are completely fit for the position. I decided to check on all the interviewees myself.

 I walked towards the reception where a very big line was still present.I was surprised to see so many applicants and I walked towards them. I was going inside the interview room but I halted on my steps when someone slapped my butt from behind.

 Everyone including me was shocked that someone had just slapped my butt, the person should better get ready to hear for me. The person won't be able to work here, and will be sent away instantly. All the staff here knew not to mess with me but a person who hasn't gotten a job yet, decided to play with me by slapping my butt in front of everyone.
