The sun came and the sun went, the moon shone every night, and there was still no sign of her. In a distance, I could hear the sounds of the night, the quiet, and the loud chatter. In my heart, I could only hear her innocent voice and sense her beautiful smile.
It has been a week and I had been to every police station, and none found a single trace. I decided to go to her parent’s home. I knocked on the door, and at the door was Mr. and Mrs. Carter. Mr. Carter was a tall fair man, with light brown eyes and dark grey hair. He always fancied using his famous stripe golfers with his cuffed pants, or his neat formal wear. Mrs. Carter is a gorgeous woman with pale yellow wavy hair, a wheatish complexion, and sky-blue eyes just like Emma. Mrs. Carter loved to dress up in a fancy gown and high heels to reach her husband’s height. She always stood out in anything she wore.
Emma’s parents were always very warm-hearted and welcoming to me. Her mum was known for her delicious quiche and wonderful coffee. From the living room, I could smell the delicacies being laid out on the dinner table. As we sat down for dinner, I immediately asked them if they had heard from Emma.
Emma’s mum dropped her red wine with shock and screamed, “Emma! What has happened to my daughter?”
Mr. Carter on the other hand gently denied, “No.”
They were both very fond of their daughter, and the thought of her being missing broke them down. We all could never imagine a life without Emma.
At that moment, I promised myself that I will do everything to bring her back, “She is the meaning of forever, and there is no tomorrow without her!”
I promised Mr. and Mrs. Carter that I will bring their daughter back safely wherever she is.
She has left at her own will, but we made a promise to be with each other forever, even if the other person is broken. Love lives forever, and I had sworn that she is mine to stay. I am not going to cry again; I am going to be strong and hopeful that she will return. I rang Sarah for a list of all Emma’s friends’ numbers. I tried every phone number, and none had news. That is the moment I remembered Emma’s adopted brother Lucas; he was Emma’s eldest cousin. After his parent’s passed away in a sudden car accident when he was 4 years old, Mr. and Mrs. Carter took him in. Lucas is the only son of Mr. Carter’s eldest brother, and he is always adored by Mrs. Carter. Emma’s mom Elizabeth and father Andrew had complications conceiving a child of their own. When Jack brought Lucas home, Elizabeth welcomed in her life as her son and she adored him with all her whole heart. A year later she was miraculously pregnant with Emma and Lucas always loved her like his own.
I contacted Lucas immediately, he was furious and devastated. He was angry with me for letting her go, but when he found out about her letter, he burst into tears. He never thought that his little sister would ever disappear into thin air. We arranged to meet with Sarah and think about what to do. We met for dinner at the Blue Moon bar. The bar has a calm ambiance, with vintage and aesthetic theme. It has an indoor and outdoor restaurant, with a bar and live music inside, and not forgetting the town’s beloved Karaoke Friday nights. The food is magnificent, they have Italian pasta, gourmet pizzas, and tons more delightful to choose from their menu. Emma was always coming for their breakfast waffles and coffee every morning.
While Sarah has read the letter for clues, Lucas was in immense pain. Lucas feels like he is cursed, that every close person to him will leave. He is scared that something untoward will happen to Emma.
Lucas in tears cried, “Emma, come back please!”
He could not handle the pain of losing another family member close to his heart. Sarah and I gave him hope and strength that we will bring her back, even if means putting ourselves in danger.
Lucas leaped up with hope and said, “You will not do this without me, bringing Emma back is equally my responsibility as much as it is yours. We are not giving up without a fight!”
We are recovering from the pain so that we can smile again for Emma, and this time with her.
I received a call from CBI Officer Jannett, they got a clue on Emma. I took the immediate flight to Las Vegas, with immense happiness and joy to find Emma. I rushed to the police station to see Jannett, and there it was. Something that I have been waiting for, a small remembrance. It was Emma’s handbag; they found her passport and phone in the bag. As I searched the bag, I noticed the book we had our first fight about, I noticed the polaroid of our first date and the ring I got engraved “D + E = Forever”. I could not breathe, Jannett ran for a glass of water. It was too late, I blacked out on the ground. As the paramedics are rushing me to the hospital, I felt like this was the end, where I will never see her again. I still could not breathe; the doctors and nurses were trying to revive me back.I could only hear her voice screaming, “Dustin, come back! You promised not to leave, please don’t go!”I was devastated,
I checked the time on my watch, and it was time for the barbeque. As we prepared the meat for grilling, I looked around for her and she was nowhere to be found. I began to wonder if it was all a dream, and then behind was the rainbow girl and her friends talking to Mia. Mia introduced them to our group, her name is Emma, and she was with her brother Lucas. I could not take my eyes off her, then I noticed she tried to make a gesture.“Hi”, I said. She smiled back again. They asked if they could help with anything, we gladly agreed.“You could join us camping”, Joey said.“The more the merrier!”, said Mia as she saw my face beaming at Emma.Lucas helped me out with the barbeque, whilst the others prepared the camping tents and the itinerary. In amidst the peace the wind brings, it was the perfect atmosphere to set up a campfire. The best moments come from spending time with friends, after dinner,
As I inhale the air around me, the hospital environment makes me sick. I hear the screams of people in pain, the shouts of pregnant women, and cries from those who lost a loved one. My heart and mind are in warfighting of my tears and pain. After my last date with her that night, she never called back or messaged me. I wondered why she avoided me. Does she regret spending time with me or was it something I said?“I tried to stay away from her, I failed. I tried meeting new people, but I only saw her. My heart knew what it wanted, and I knew I had to fight my way to get it. The days with her feel like home, and home is where I always want to be, even if it is impossible.” I could not stop thinking while eating dinner with Jannett and Lucas.Lucas knew that Emma and I never spoke after our date, but he never asked why. Today he has several questions about how I kept contact with his sister, and what drove her permanently away from me.
It is 1:30 pm here in Los Angeles, I am waiting in my apartment since sunrise, a message from her has still not arrived. I hear a sudden knock on the door, I rushed to the door to her. A letter from her, but not her. My heart has been yearning for a reply and here it is, whatever it says, “I still love her”. I tore apart the envelope to find her beautiful handwriting:Dear DustinEver since I have met you, you have been the light in my heart. I could never take a second of you getting hurt because of me. I want you to always remember that without you there is no me, without me, there will be no you. We complete each other, yet we are incomplete. Our journey has been the most beautiful one, yet it’s our most painful loss to each other. I love your soul and all that completes you. You always said, “Your scars are my scars”, but your tears and pain are all mine. All of me is all of you. Although we cannot be
