Nuella grunted and opened her eyes, taking in the unfamiliar environment around her.
She tried to recall what had happened but at that moment her brain was foggy. “Oh you're awake?” She heard someone say and turned to see a doctor standing by her bedside smiling down at her. Suddenly all the memories of what had happened came rushing back and she gasped as her hands went to her stomach that now seemed flatter than before. A sense of dread hit Nuella but she swallowed it as she summoned the courage to ask the doctor. “How's my child?” The smile on the young doctor's face slipped but she quickly composed herself. Nuella noticed and a tear slid down her cheek. She knew, somehow she knew. “How's my child doctor?” The female doctor shook her head unable to construct the words at the beginning. “I'm sorry. You were brought in too late and we couldn't save the baby.” Tears began to roll down her cheeks uncontrollably but she didn't cry out loud. “I'm really sorry ma'am. Please try to rest up so your body can heal.” The doctor advised and walked out of the room leaving Nuella alone. “Damn you Silas!” Nuella screamed all of a sudden as more tears streamed down her face. The door burst open and the doctor from before alongside tow female nurses ran in, panic on their faces. “What's the matter ma'am? Are you in pain?” The doctor fired question after question at Nuella who remained frozen to the spot and didn't respond. One of the nurses tapped her shoulder and shook her head signaling to the doctor to step aside. “What's wrong?” The puzzled docter asked, unsure why she had been pulled aside. “I think the patient is in shock because of her loss.” The three stared at Nuella who was still sobbing silently. “We should give her some space,” The three stepped out again leaving Nuella who was now sobbing uncontrollably. “Everything was Silas's fault”. She said in a whisper. ”If he had been more caring about my situation, they'd have been able to save our child's life”. But he had been sleeping with my sister and ignored me. Even if he didn't know, he could have at least shown some concern for my condition. What type of man did I marry? Gosh! How come I never knew Silas was capable of betraying me like this? And my sister? Natasha was the last person I’d have expected such from. Tears continued to roll down her cheeks and she didn't make a move to brush them away, she was too weak to do anything. “How could the two of the most important people in my life betray me like this”? “I'm sorry sir but you can't go in. This is a private ward and I have to ask you to leave,” she heard from outside the ward and her heartbeat picked up. Could Silas be here to see her? She sat up and brushed her tears away, her heart eager to see him. “Get out of my way, my wife is in there!” He yelled at whoever was stopping him. At the sound of his voice, Nuella's heart skipped a beat. He was really there to see her. A tear slid down her face as she thought about how he was probably there to apologize for his mistake. The door was swung open and Silas breezed in followed by a nurse, one of the nurses that had shown up with the doctor earlier. “I'm sorry ma'am but he insisted…” she started to explain but Nuella shook her head. “It's okay, he's my husband.” Nuella explained weakly and the nurse relaxed. She eyed Silas wearily and with a shake of her head, she left the ward. “What are you doing here?” Nuella asked, glaring at Silas. “I came to give you these,” he replied without skipping a beat. Nuella gasped as he threw a stack of papers at her. “What is the meaning of this? Do you realize where we are?” “Sign them and get out of my life. Your things are packed so I don't want to ever see you in my house again.” Tears welled up in her eyes again. “I don't understand. What is this Silas?” He ignored her and turned on his heels to leave the room. “Sign them and remember I don't want to ever see your face again.” “Come back here Silas, Silas!” Nuella screamed as he slammed the door behind him but he didn't respond and neither did he walk back in. When had he become a monster? He used to be so tender and loving towards her. He hadn't even asked about their child. He hadn't cared that she was in the hospital, he hadn't shown any remorse for what he had done. “Damn you Silas!” She swore and threw a pillow at the door. “I need to leave this place, I can't stay here any longer.” Nuella sneaked out of the hospital and called her friend. “I just pinged you my address, could you pick me up Dora?” There was silence on the other end and Nuella had to check to make sure the call hadn't disconnected. “What are you doing at the hospital?” Nuella sighed. “Please just come pick me up Dora, I'll tell you everything when we see.” “You better,” **** “Start talking,” Dora ordered as she drove out of the parking lot with Nuella seated in the passenger's seat. Nuella sighed and closed her eyes. “I need a drink and you'd need one too if you are going to hear about everything that happened.” Dora frowned. “But you shouldn't be drinking. Weren't just at the hospital?” Nuella shook her head. “I promise you I feel fine. Don't worry about me.” Dora continued driving but it was obvious she didn't believe a word Nuella said. “I need a stiff drink please Dora. I just want to forget,” she choked on a sob and Dora groaned. “Alright fine but if I notice something strange I'm bringing you back here,” “Thank you,” Soon they arrived at the bar and Nuella ordered a tequila shot. She had explained everything on the ride over and Dora was furious. “A toast to singlehood.” she whispered and then chuckled. Dora eyed her. “I can't believe that idiot did something so stupid. How could he and with Natasha?” Nuella downed the shot and ordered another one. “I can't believe I was so blind.” “He's the idiot for not treating you right.” Dora shot back and grinned as a thought popped into her head. “What?” Nuella asked, already pretty drunk after taking four shots. “The best way to get over a bastard like Silas is to get under someone else,” she giggled and Nuella shook her head. “No, I'm not doing that. Besides how would it hurt Silas?” “Hmm, you're right.” She was quiet for a while before speaking again. “Guess who just walked in?” Nuella tried to spin around and she almost fell off the stool. “Who is that?” She asked once she had steadied herself. “Kevin, the billionaire Bigshot just walked in,” Nuella seemed unintended. “Don't tell me you don't know who that is? He's Silas's uncle and a big name in the business world. That guy is filthy rich and of course the perfect way to get revenge on Silas while reaping some benefits too.” “Hmm,” Nuella hummed but was too out of it. “Nuella!” “What?” “I'll be going to the bathroom now, wait for me, alright.” Dora walked away leaving Nuella at the bar. Nuella eyed the man Dora had been talking about and slid off the stool. She staggered towards him and fell in his lap. “Hey handsome, will you marry me?” She asked, the words slurred because of how drunk she was. “You're drunk,” Kevin replied, unfazed by her request. “Get me a glass of water for the lady,” “Will you marry me Mr handsome?” Nuella asked again just as the water was brought. Kevin smirked as he watched her. “Drink,” She drank from it, some of it splashing on her body. “Will you take me home?” She asked holding her head. “I don't feel so good.” He eyed her wordlessly for some time before sighing. “What’s your address?” Nuella scrunched her face as she thought long and hard about it. “I don't know.” She replied looking genuinely confused. Kevin sighed and picked her up. “Come on. I'll book a hotel room for you and then you can go back home tomorrow.” *** “Help me with my clothes,” Nuella instructed Kevin and he sighed but did as she asked, unbuttoning her blouse for her. He watched as she tossed it to the ground and gulped at the sight of her breasts hanging open. Dear God, it had been way too long since he last had sex. His trousers got tighter and he coughed, looking away as he adjusted it. “I should get going.” Nuella staggered to her feet. “No, stay.” She rubbed herself against him and Kevin sighed. “Spend the night with me.” He groaned as she pushed him down on the bed, his resolve cracked. When she sat on top of him, he knew he was a goner.Nuella groaned and sat up, rubbing her eyes. Her head hurt like hell and she felt like she had swallowed sand. Everything that happened last night came back to her and she wanted to dig a hole and bury herself in it. How could she have asked a complete stranger to marry her? So what if he was related to Silas? She could get her revenge another way. “Good morning,” she heard and spun around with a start, her heart racing. “Relax it's just me.” Nuella blushed and pulled the covers over her breasts. “Good morning. I'm sorry about last night.” Kevin coughed. She realized he hadn't been expecting her to apologise. “Which part?” “ Did anything happened between us last night “? Nuella asked with her eyes wide open. “No… you have nothing to worry about “ Kevin said while smiling. Her cheeks reddened and he cleared his throat. “Here's some aspirin for the headache. I already ordered for some soup for the hangover.” “Thank you,” she whispered unable to meet his eyes. They sat there
Nuella coughed and looked away feeling uncomfortable seeing this strange woman rubbing herself against her husband. Kevin pushes the woman away and Nuella felt better. “What do you think you're doing?” He asked as he reached for Nuella again and pulled her closer to himself. “What are you talking about Kevin? And who is this?” The woman finally turned angry eyes at Nuella and she shivered. Kevin leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on Nuella's forehead. “This is my wife, Nuella Lowes. Be sure to trust her with more respect in the future or else…” He trailed off but he didn't have to complete his sentence, the message was clear. Nuella's cheeks turned pink. She couldn't understand why she was enjoying Kevin's public show of affection and care but she would take it over Silas's lack of concern anyday. The woman snorted and sent Nuella a menacing glare before she stalked off angrily. “Ignore them,” Kevin assured her as he pressed her closer to him. Nuella felt a sense of security
“She's suffering from lack of rest. Her body has just suffered a miscarriage and she hasn't been able to rest properly ever since,” Those were the first things Nuella heard when she regained consciousness. She grunted and opened her eyes taking in her environment. Kevin was standing by the side with a doctor who seemed to be scolding him. She flushed as she realized he was taking the heat for her carelessness and sat up. “Oh you're awake,” the doctor came over to her side immediately and the conversation was cut short much to her relief. “How are you feeling now?” Nuella nodded her head, not quite ready to speak. The doctor checked her vitals and excused herself, promising to come check on her later in the day. Soon, they were left alone for the first time since the party. For the first few minutes after the doctor left, no one said anything. They just stared at each other without saying a word. “I'm sorry,” she said, breaking the silence as she finally found the words. “I sh
