KISS

Still seated in the cab, everything became numb. I couldn't comprehend the sudden turn of events. I was snapped out of my thoughts when my phone beeped, almost startling me. I hesitated, then composed myself before taking it out of the bag without looking at the screen to identify the caller.

“Where are you?” the caller swiftly demanded. I quickly took the phone away from my ear to see who it was; the voice wasn't familiar.

“Oh, Evelyn?” I inquired, as the voice sounded different.

“Yes, girl, it's me. Sorry, I have something in my mouth. Can we meet? I have some news I want to share with you.”

“Sure,” I replied abruptly. What I needed at that moment was someone to lean on, to wake up and realize everything that had happened was just a nightmare and never existed. But would that wish ever be granted?

“Meet me at Marshall Suite,” she said, and with that, the call ended.

“Ma, where to?” the driver inquired.
