REJECTED
Without any delay, Evelyn and I hailed a cab to Harry's house, hoping to break the news to him and, hopefully, that he might take me back. We arrived only to find the gate locked with new padlocks. It seemed no one was in the building; the cars, security, and gatekeeper were all gone. I was stunned by the sight, and so was Evelyn. Our gazes locked, and I could only gasp. “What’s happening? Why does it look like Harry has vacated this premises? It doesn’t look like anyone is here,” Evelyn asked in a concerned tone, her fears evident in her expression. I was shocked, my heart racing, and my lips parted. I couldn’t comprehend what was happening. Having been married to Harry for three years, this had always been our home—his only property that I knew about. If he had truly relocated or vacated this property, where could he have gone? Harry was a very reclusive person; he liked doing his things without involving anyone. I was left in the dark about whatever he did. I was clueless about his line of business. The only thing I knew was that he was a busy businessman who spent most of his time on different business trips. I was told to mind my own business and never interfere. I did so to maintain a peaceful home. The only person I knew was his mother, who hated me and every step I took. “Celine, I think we need to leave. Harry couldn’t wait to divorce you so he could vacate this property,” she said, weighing my expression. “It’s obvious that he no longer lives here,” she added in an angry tone. I was perplexed and in great pain; my heart was racing uncontrollably, and tears welled in my eyes. I felt rejected, used, and numb. My entire body was trembling uncontrollably. “How could Harry do this to me? What do I do?” I screamed in pain, almost collapsing because my legs could no longer support the weight of my sorrow. Why was he so heartless, leaving me with no clue about his whereabouts while I was carrying his child? “Celine, this is not the end of your life. I think we should get going,” she said, giving me a warm embrace and whispering in my ear, almost inaudibly, “Everything will be fine.” With that, she tapped me on the shoulder. We left the building and took a cab back to the hotel. Upon arriving at the hotel, I felt like my world had crumbled before my eyes, but Evelyn was there to offer hope, even when I was concerned about being responsible for a child with barely enough to get by. “I think it’s time you moved on,” Evelyn exclaimed. “You know you’re carrying a child, and it’s only right that you find something to do so you can save enough to care for yourself and your child when the time comes,” her tone laced with concern. Yes, she was right. I needed to take responsibility for my child. I needed to ensure I was in good shape so that my baby would be safe. My child was all I had when life chose to treat me badly with so much hurt. With that, I wiped the tears from my cheeks with the back of my hand and gave myself some courage to compose myself and be a strong woman. That was what I needed to ensure my baby was safe. Harry wasn’t worth my tears; he wasn’t worth any of the pain inflicted on me. He was probably with someone else now, while I was here, harming myself and endangering my precious little gift. I caressed my tummy and smiled at the little one growing inside me, my bundle of joy, the one who made all my suffering worthwhile. “I love you, cutie,” I whispered under my breath. “But I don’t know how to go about it,” I said through gritted teeth. “In two days, the money I paid for this room will run out, and I have little or no money to renew it,” I added, my tone wavering as I faced the harsh reality of life. A wide grin spread across Evelyn’s face. She held my arms and looked at me with concern. “Don’t worry about that. I have a friend who works for an agency. I’ll contact her later tonight to check for vacancies. I believe with that, you can save up for your care and that of your child.” My expression lightened, and the ease in my heart was evident. “Thank you for always trying to help me,” I said, giving her a heartfelt hug and appreciating her support. The next day, she called her friend and informed me that the only well-paid job vacancy available was as a waitress in a bar, aside from a cleaner position in a local store with low pay. That didn’t sound ideal, but I needed to make a decision. Taking the cleaning job offered low income that wouldn’t cover my bills for a week. I had nothing left and needed a job that paid enough to save and start my own career. After much consideration, I opted for the bar job, even though I knew it wasn’t ideal for me in my condition. I chose it, hoping to find a better opportunity while waiting for other decent, well-paid vacancies to come up. “I think I’m going for the waitress job,” I said. “Are you sure about this decision? You know your condition doesn’t suit such a job,” Evelyn said with a concerned look. “Don’t worry; I won’t be working there for long,” I said, watching her expression. “I’ll leave as soon as I get a better job alert from the agency,” I promised, my tone filled with determination. “Alright, if you say so,” she replied. The next day, we went to the bar to secure the job, unaware of someone stalking us. After we finished and were about to leave, we noticed someone approaching…Harry's POV I have never loved her from the beginning; I just took advantage of her mother's illness to marry her as orchestrated by my mother to execute our revenge. She is a loving and hardworking woman who happened to be a victim of my revenge plan. Poor her, having to pay for the sins of her mother. I must admit that during the first year of our marriage, I was nearly falling for her love. She wouldn't stop trying to win me over—family dinners I barely attended, house chores, the laundry, early morning routines. She did all these regularly, but I never let them affect me because I had always wanted to inflict pain on her, not the other way around. Loving her was against the plan, as I was already married to Lily and had a son with her. I hid my real family from everyone, including my friends, to ensure my legitimate wife, Lily, would not learn about my fake contract marriage with Celine. The marriage was fake and remained hidden until our third anniversary when I decided to gi
JOBWe stopped and waited for the guy to approach. It seemed his eyes had been on us from the moment we entered the bar.He approached and stood in front of us, scrutinising us from head to toe. When he met our gaze, he smirked victoriously and left.“So, psychos also come to this joint?” I asked, turning to Evelyn, who was also shocked by the guy's performance. The joint looked decent, so I wasn't expecting to see such a stunt pulled on us.“Are you sure you are safe with this job?” Evelyn asked in a concerned tone, having witnessed the scene earlier.I tapped her shoulder. “Yes, I can. It's just for the time being. I will be resigning as soon as another job shows up,” I spoke calmly. “Not that I have a choice,” I added with a smile. She watched for a while. “Just make sure you are safe,” she said, her tone filled with emotion.“Anyway, I spoke with my friend, and she accepted you to stay in the vacant room in her place. I have already paid for six months. You will be staying there
HIMThat was Jack, the handsome tall dude that every girl in the bar was dying for. He was actually a speck, you know. I freaked out the moment he approached and took a closer look at me, my heart racing, not expecting to get a sack directly from the boss himself. “Oh please, I wasn't expecting to cause a scene, just that the urge struck me badly leaving me with no option but to dash out. Oh, I'm sorry. Please, I need this job. I need to pay my bills and make a living. I don't have anywhere else to work aside from this.” I muttered in my thoughts, freaked out by his constant gaze. Then he took some steps closer until he was dead close to us, my head still lowered in anxiety, my body almost trembling. The fire set ablaze when he finally spoke. “I think I like you already,” his words ensconced with emotions and calm like an iceberg. I couldn't comprehend what he just said. It took about half a minute before those lines made sense to me. “He likes me? But how?” I asked in my thoughts, s
KISSStill seated in the cab, everything became numb. I couldn't comprehend the sudden turn of events. I was snapped out of my thoughts when my phone beeped, almost startling me. I hesitated, then composed myself before taking it out of the bag without looking at the screen to identify the caller.“Where are you?” the caller swiftly demanded. I quickly took the phone away from my ear to see who it was; the voice wasn't familiar.“Oh, Evelyn?” I inquired, as the voice sounded different.“Yes, girl, it's me. Sorry, I have something in my mouth. Can we meet? I have some news I want to share with you.”“Sure,” I replied abruptly. What I needed at that moment was someone to lean on, to wake up and realize everything that had happened was just a nightmare and never existed. But would that wish ever be granted?“Meet me at Marshall Suite,” she said, and with that, the call ended.“Ma, where to?” the driver inquired.I provided him with the directions, and he nodded, quickly focusing on his d
DATELooking straight into my eyes, he let out a reassuring smile and dipped his hands into his suit pocket. I was stunned, unsure of what to expect, so I widened my eyes, narrowing them as I studied his features.“And what...” My thoughts were interrupted when he leaned forward. I felt the urge to step backward, but I couldn't. He had this captivating aura that I couldn't resist. It felt like I was pinned to the spot, unable to move. The more I tried, the more frustrated I became. I gave up and stood under his intense gaze, sighing deeply. Then, he pulled his hands out of his pocket, revealing what looked like a handkerchief, with which he wiped the part of my forehead where he had earlier planted the kiss.Stunned by his actions, I stood still in disbelief, trying to comprehend what was happening. Unable to utter a word, he smiled and said, “May I have the pleasure of taking my lady out?” He gestured, bowing his head and extending his hand toward me.Subconsciously, I accepted his h
Jack's povGetting her to do my bidding wasn’t far-fetched; I knew exactly which buttons to press at every moment to make her fall head over heels for me.The moment I saw her in the bar, her face looked familiar, but I couldn’t place where I had met such beauty before. It wasn’t until Sam leaned forward and whispered that she was Harry’s ex-wife that it clicked.I smirked victoriously. Having my rival’s ex-wife wouldn’t be a bad deal at all. My plans were smoothly falling into place. She was an innocent, gorgeously looking lady with an elegance that drew every man’s attention. Such beauty was wasted in Harry’s possession. That man sure has the nerve, thinking the world revolves around him. But no, it doesn’t. His little world is too small to withstand the pressure when it comes.Watching her walk away when I arrived at the bar wasn’t clear to me, but whatever the case, it would soon be revealed. I was undeterred in my revenge plan. Harry must dance to the fierce beat of the jungle wh
Harry's povIt was my make-out time with Lily, and I took her to the suite. I needed to make it up to her for being absent on her birthday. The same contract that had me tirelessly working day and night was the one I learned Jack and his boss, Williams Wood, were also interested in. It struck me to my core, leaving me devastated. I’ve worked in the sector for years and have never experienced such a scenario. How could Jack and his boss be interested in the same project?I knew Williams Wood, the dreaded boss, was not someone to be trifled with. He always got whatever he wanted, and this was no exception. He's the boss of a notorious mafia group, and no one dares to cross him—not even me. But I was deeply wounded. Never before had I had to go up against the boss himself, but this time, I needed a strategy to get him out of the way. I really needed that contract and would do whatever was within my power to secure it secretly.Sitting next to Lily, I tried to make it up to her. “I’m sorr
TruthCeline’s povWhy do I find it so hard to believe Jack? He said he knew Harry as a colleague at his workplace, but their expressions contradicted that statement. A colleague with such sentiments seemed far out of reach.Have I made a mistake accepting Jack? No, it can't be a mistake. Or maybe there was some mix-up, and I was just being overreactive and calculating. Pregnancy must surely have a way of clouding one's reasoning, I assured myself and headed to the bathroom to have a shower—it had been a long day.Ever since I accepted Jack barely a month ago, I stopped working at the bar, and he assured me he would take care of my bills, explaining that he wouldn't want his lady to work and that he had more than enough to care for me. I cherished his sincere concerns and love for me, and I was about to tell him about my pregnancy before Harry showed up at the suite.I entered the bathroom and turned the shower on. The cool drops on my body reminded me of the showers of love Jack had
