Chapter Four
Gwyneth was about to stand up and head back to her room when she thought of something and sat back down. She observed the man in front of her for a while, assessing him from head to toe before speaking up.
"How long do you intend to stay in my house? Can you give me a specific number? You know, I'm letting you stay, but at the very least, I should know how long you plan to be here, right?"
Rad was still wearing Gwyneth's dress from this morning. He hadn't been able to change because there were no new clothes to wear. However, he didn't feel ashamed, remaining composed in front of her.
"I don't know, maybe a few days, a few months... or even a few years. It's hard to give you a specific number because I myself don't know what the future holds."
Facing Rad's vague and indifferent response, Gwyneth's face paled with discomfort and unease. She didn't want her peaceful life to be disrupted, especially by a man who could potentially be dangerous. His name, 'Rad,' might not even be his real name.
More likely, he wouldn't reveal his real name to someone he just met two days ago.
Gwyneth sighed. If Rad couldn't provide a specific timeframe or a specific number, then she would have to accept it. Currently, what she thought about Rad was just temporary speculation, but she was sure her estimation could be about 70% accurate. Anyway, someone who was on the run wouldn't be foolish enough to use their real name.
"Why is that? I've only been here for less than two days, and you already want to kick me out? You really have no compassion, no generosity at all." Rad said, sounding pitiful and weak.
Gwyneth immediately felt confused, facing a handsome man on the verge of tears made her feel sorry for him. "You're crying, are you? Don't cry... I didn't mean that, I just want to need know how long you'll be staying in my house."
Seeing Rad still bowing his head without speaking, she thought he was hurt and crying. For some reason, Gwyneth felt guilty, guilty for causing a handsome young man to be hurt.
"Okay, okay, don't cry. I'll allow you to stay in my house until the danger is over, I mean until the organization you mentioned stops pursuing you. But let me make it clear, staying in my house won't be rent-free, so what can you do for me?" Gwyneth crossed her arms and said.
Indeed, the man in front of her was very handsome, and any expression he displayed would make the other person swoon, especially for a woman who had never been in love like her. But Gwyneth remained rational; she didn't want to be with a useless person. Even if Rad couldn't show his worth, she wouldn't care even if he used death as a threat.
Hearing that, Rad's eyes brightened as he looked at her and smiled. "You're serious, huh? I can do a lot of things. For starters, I can cook three meals a day for you, as long as you want, I will cook anything for you. I will clean everything up, and I'm very good at repairing things."
Gwyneth raised her eyebrows slightly. Her house was not too big but not too small either. Since she had been living alone since moving here, there weren't many things in the house, so it couldn't be considered clean but rather empty. Gwyneth pondered silently. If Rad could handle those tasks, she wouldn't have to eat convenience food or order takeout anymore.
Rad could work as a part-time housekeeper... no, it had to be full-time. Gwyneth had hired hourly help before and found it quite expensive, so she was reluctant to hire help. Now there was someone working without pay, as long as she provided him with accommodation.
"Besides those tasks, what else can you do?" Gwyneth asked.
Rad's smile grew even brighter, and he nodded. "Of course, if you don't mind, I can also help you with your sexual needs. How about it? I'm confident that I can do better than any man you've ever been with-"
Gwyneth immediately raised her hand, signaling him to stop. "Alright! I don't need that. Just do well with what you said earlier. You help me, and I'll let you stay for this period."
After dinner, Rad fulfilled his earlier promise. He cleaned up the dirty dishes and washed them, his movements not very skillful but decisive and quick.
"Follow me, I can't let you sleep in mine." Gwyneth walked and talked at the same time. Because of the unfortunate incident last night, she allowed him to sleep in her bed, but she had no intention of giving her room to anyone else.
Rad followed behind her, shrugging as he said, "I can sleep on the sofa in the living room."
"That's fine, but it wouldn't be aesthetically pleasing... This room." Gwyneth gestured to the long-unused room before turning to look at Rad. She continued, "From now until you leave, you'll sleep in this room. There's a single bed and a desk in there, along with some things I no longer use. Before you arrived, this room was more like a storage space."
Rad looked around the room; indeed, there was only a single bed and a small desk next to it. In the corner were a few large cardboard boxes, emanating a musty, dusty, and... stale smell.
He furrowed his brow as he looked at the dust particles swirling in the air and the evident musty smell in the room. These things made him uncomfortable, but he couldn't show it in front of Gwyneth. He glanced back at his room, then back outside. Gwyneth was still rambling on about how she acquired this house.
"Rad, did you hear what I said?" Noticing Rad hadn't responded, Gwyneth turned to ask, only to find him standing by the door, seemingly lost in thought.
Rad spoke up only then, "Why is my room so far from yours?"
"Huh? Are you asking why your room should be close to mine?" Gwyneth puzzled over his question and asked in return.
Gwyneth initially thought Rad was merely curious, but his next words left her speechless.
"Because if you ever feel like... being intimate, you could just come over to my room, or I could come over to yours without wasting too much time." Rad said matter-of-factly as if it were obvious.
Seeing Rad's attitude, he was not joking with her, but he actually thought it was obvious, perhaps he thought she allowed him to stay here and he needed to return something bigger than cleaning up and cooking normally.
Gwyneth sighed softly, shaking her head. "Initially, I thought you were a criminal or some sort of danger, but now I think you've... done that before, haven't you?... serving wealthy women, I mean."
She didn't dare say 'gigolo' outright, fearing if Rad had indeed done that, he'd be embarrassed and defensive. But she had underestimated Rad's audacity.
Rad casually replied, "You mean I used to be a gigolo, right? It's true I indeed do like older women, but I don't like getting dirty. I'm very clean, so if you need me to serve—"
"I don't need that, thank you. I really, really, really don't need you to serve me in that way." Gwyneth immediately interrupted him, did this guy really think she wanted to have sex with him?
After arranging Rad's sleeping quarters, Gwyneth just wanted to return to her room and sleep immediately, exhausted from the day's work and overthinking. But as she headed back to her bedroom, Rad followed her.
"Why are you following me? Go to your room," she said.
"Do you really not need me to serve you that way? I won't disappoint you in bed." Rad added, his charming smile making it hard to refuse.
Being sexually served by a handsome, tall, and strong man, how many women could refuse, not to mention his is also quite big, Gwyneth knew this because when he was injured and needed to take off his clothes, she saw everything.
Gwyneth raised her eyebrows, she also liked it but she also needed to preserve her little life. Instead of refusing like just now, Gwyneth said firmly, "Oh, but I like women."
With that, Gwyneth swiftly stepped into her room and closed the door, not giving Rad a chance to step in. She didn't know how to deal with such direct flirtation and sexual invitations, so instead of refusing, saying she preferred women seemed much simpler.
It was indeed very effective because after hearing that, Rad stood rooted to the spot outside Gwyneth's bedroom door for a while before finally returning to his own room.
Chapter FiveAs usual, Gwyneth woke up on time and tired, she even woke up earlier than the alarm clock. After cleaning herself and changing clothes, Gwyneth walked out of the room, constantly thinking about what she would eat at the convenience store that morning before going to the hospital. Although the hospital has a canteen, she doesn't like the staff working there."Gwyneth, come here, breakfast is ready." Rad placed the last dish on the table, and as soon as he saw Gwyneth stepping out, he happily pulled out a chair.Gwyneth was shocked by the scene before her, not because of a rich breakfast spread but because of the attire Rad was wearing. She quickly turned away, trying not to look directly at him."Are you crazy? Why are you dressed like that? Stay away from me." Gwyneth waved her hand, deliberately shooing Rad away, unable to understand how he could dress like that. Could it be that he hit his head somewhere while being chased by some organization, thus losing his sense of
Chapter SixGwyneth didn't notice the sharp gaze Rad directed at her as she leaned against the counter, saying, "It's just a gift from a patient's family to thank me, a common occurrence that you don't need to pay attention to."As soon as Gwyneth turned to look at Rad, his expression changed, and he chuckled, "Oh really... You must be a very skilled doctor."“I'm a good doctor and of course I know this, but this gift doesn't mean I'm a good doctor. Don't ask too much, where's dinner?" Gwyneth waved her hand and said, she brought those gifts into the bedroom first.Since Gwyneth had already bought groceries and stored them in the fridge, Rad only needed to cook; he didn't have to step out of the house at all. Furthermore, because Gwyneth typically disliked disturbances and noise from the outside, the window was never opened despite the sparse population in the area."How's for dinner? Do you like it?" Rad, in a simple t-shirt, couldn't hide his muscular physique, emanating a rugged, h
Chapter SevenRad watched Gwyneth dealing with the leftovers on her plate with apparent frustration and made him burst into laughter."What's so funny?" Gwyneth frowned softly, feeling exhausted and pressured by the pointless things this man laughed at her discomfort.Rad said, "There's always a way out, you know. Just say you have a boyfriend or that you're married to someone. Surely the ones pushing you to get married will leave you alone."Gwyneth of course knows this, this is something that can easily be thought of, but if it were as simple as Rad said, she wouldn't feel this pressure. Furthermore, before that, Gwyneth also used many methods, from hard to soft, but they were also ineffective. She also hired several men to pretend to be her boyfriend, not only did she create elaborate plays to show her father and her stepmother knew and didn't push her anymore.Yet, every attempt failed for various reasons, and after a few times like that, every time Gwyneth claimed to have a boyfr
Chapter EightGwyneth thought that John would propose interesting conditions, or at least he would know how to persuade her to marry him, since he was the one who wanted to marry her, not the other way around. But it seemed that Gwyneth had overestimated this arrogant man. John not only lacked the maturity expected of a man but also believed that he was very valuable, assuming that everyone wanted to marry him. This left Gwyneth speechless and disheartened, with a hint of disdain in her smile towards this man."You're a woman, and being able to marry a wealthy man like me is a rare opportunity in your life. Do you know how many women out there want to marry me? Compared to those women, you're much luckier because I chose you over other young beautiful girls," John spoke arrogantly.Gwyneth tried to suppress a laugh because she knew the women John referred to were likely bar staff. Although she had no opinion about their profession, in their eyes, John was indeed a wealthy man who coul
Chapter NineOnly being strangers who coincidentally met and helped each other in times of difficulty, Gwyneth and Rad were no different. Unlike previous occasions, Gwyneth didn't have to spend a large sum to hire a stranger to pretend to be her boyfriend. This time, there was a man who voluntarily offered to pose as her husband. The 'husband' issue had been resolved, but if Gwyneth were to tell others that Rad was her husband, her stepmother would certainly not believe it. So, to completely bury their suspicions, Gwyneth decided not to be casual about it this time.Gwyneth would ensure that no one would discover Rad as her fake husband. Naturally, marriage-related documents such as marriage certificates couldn't be missing. Gwyneth also worried that the organization pursuing Rad might discover him, so she found a way to help Rad obtain a fake ID card, and of course, all the information on it was also fake.Falsifying such documents wasn't difficult but it cost quite a bit of money. D
Chapter TenThe dinner proceeded rather awkwardly because there was someone who shouldn't have been there—Rad. Yet, Gwyneth enjoyed seeing the forced, amiable expressions on her father and stepmother's faces towards him.Zelda appeared to ignore the man accompanying Gwyneth, but she couldn't help stealing a few glances. She had seen a few men accompany Gwyneth to similar gatherings before, but none as handsome as this one."Gwyneth, your father was a bit upset last time, which is why he raised his voice at you. Hopefully, you didn't take it to heart, but your father and I are just concerned about you. Mr. Allen doesn't have much free time, so you should give an answer," urged her stepmother, then turned to Allen with a charming smile. "I hope you don't mind. Gwyneth is too passionate about her work and has never been in love before, so this marriage might make her a bit uneasy."While her stepmother prodded Gwyneth for an answer, she also spoke to Allen. Gwyneth knew she was just pret
Chapter One"Dr. Gwyneth, are you finished for the day? You're not on duty tonight?" the friendly nurse asked.Gwyneth's mood was extremely cheerful. "I'm not on duty tonight. I finished early, so I want to treat myself to something. Everyone, enjoy your work, I'm heading out now.""Well... her single life is really admirable. I wish I could also dedicate time to myself like she does. Life isn't just about running around with kids..." the nurse next to her sighed.Another male nurse standing nearby chuckled, "I don't think she's as comfortable as you think. I heard her family is pressuring her to get married; they've even chosen a suitor for her. Can you believe there are still arranged marriages in this day and age?"Gwyneth was twenty-seven years old, but she had never thought about marriage. She just wanted to live a happy and content single life, enjoying everything on her own terms. However, that was her own thinking. Her parents and relatives thought differently; they believed s
Chapter TwoGwyneth had never encountered someone as shameless as this man. It was clear that she was the host, the one who had saved him, yet he showed no hint of gratitude whatsoever. Even before Gwyneth could take a bite of her sandwich, the man snatched it swiftly, eating right in front of her with a challenging demeanor. Gwyneth found his behavior utterly perplexing but still offered the advice, "Even if you're hungry, there's no need to devour your food like that. Too much activity will cause the treated wounds to tear."Gwyneth didn't want to argue with a patient like him. She checked her watch, put on her coat, noticed the man still engrossed in his breakfast, grabbed some money, and handed it to him."You'd better head to the hospital. Here's the cab fare. That's the best I can do for you, young man. You should go home; your family must be worried sick. I have to go to work now, and I don't have time to take you anywhere," Gwyneth said as she left the house, intentionally lea
