Chapter Five
As usual, Gwyneth woke up on time and tired, she even woke up earlier than the alarm clock. After cleaning herself and changing clothes, Gwyneth walked out of the room, constantly thinking about what she would eat at the convenience store that morning before going to the hospital. Although the hospital has a canteen, she doesn't like the staff working there.
"Gwyneth, come here, breakfast is ready." Rad placed the last dish on the table, and as soon as he saw Gwyneth stepping out, he happily pulled out a chair.
Gwyneth was shocked by the scene before her, not because of a rich breakfast spread but because of the attire Rad was wearing. She quickly turned away, trying not to look directly at him.
"Are you crazy? Why are you dressed like that? Stay away from me." Gwyneth waved her hand, deliberately shooing Rad away, unable to understand how he could dress like that. Could it be that he hit his head somewhere while being chased by some organization, thus losing his sense of shame?
Rad sat down opposite her, looking at himself and then at Gwyneth, his face very calm as if he didn't understand why she reacted so exaggeratedly.
"What's wrong with what I'm wearing? I think it looks good and it's very cool too."
"You... are you trying to hint that I should buy you new clothes? You just need to ask, you don't have to do such things." Gwyneth sighed.
Rad shrugged while eating, "You misunderstood, I know you'll buy me new clothes eventually, but I didn't mean it the way you said."
Gwyneth was speechless, she bit her sandwich hard, "Then why are you naked?"
"I'm not naked, you see, I'm wearing an apron."
"Exactly! You say you're not naked but you're only wearing an apron, is that different from being naked?" Gwyneth couldn't fathom how this man could be so shameless. She couldn't understand whether he was deliberately behaving like this or he was oblivious to how his appearance was provocative and stimulating to others.
Gwyneth quickly finished her breakfast and rushed out of the house, her face flushed like a tomato from the moment she stepped out until she reached near the hospital where she finally calmed down a bit. For a long-time single woman who had never had intimate contact with men, witnessing a man naked with a fiery physique made her heart beat so hard as if it wanted to jump out of her chest, her limbs trembling and sweating profusely.
As soon as she reached the hospital gate, Gwyneth hurried into her own office, not letting anyone see her embarrassed flushed face.
"I never thought there would be a day when I have to actively buy clothes for a strange man, let alone for him to stay over at my house." Gwyneth started to browse through the medical records, but she couldn't concentrate.
"Which man are you talking about?" Nurse Trang stood knocking on the door, smiling as she stepped out.
Gwyneth startled but quickly regained her composure, forcing a smile, "Nothing, don't mind me. What brings you here?"
The hospital was like a company, not always busy and tiring. Moreover, this was a private hospital, exclusively for the wealthy, the affluent, and the powerful.
Nurse Trang walked in, holding two large and luxurious bags in her hand, placing them on Gwyneth's desk before closing the door.
"What's this?"
"Do you remember what I said last time? That's right. The relatives of the patient in room 402 wanted to show a little gratitude to Dr. Gwyneth, but they didn't have time to meet you in person, so they asked me to bring it here." Nurse Trang said cheerfully, then she lifted a small gift bag excitedly, "Look at this, I also got a gift. Originally this small gift bag belonged to Meadow, but now it belongs to me, don't tell Meadow."
Gwyneth didn't pay much attention to the expensive items in front of her, this wasn't the first time she had received gifts from patients' families. The wealthy had a generous way of thanking others, and they didn't mind flaunting their wealth.
In this hospital, whether it was doctors, nurses, or anyone working here, they were all too familiar with the practice of patients' families or patients themselves giving gifts of great value, extremely great value. Like other doctors, Gwyneth also understood that these 'gifts' of gratitude often constituted a significant portion of her income. These 'gifts' were sometimes material objects, sometimes cash.
Nurse Trang asked, "I heard you mention a man earlier, who was that? Do you have a boyfriend now? So, how's things between you and Director Dixon, has he been causing trouble for you?"
At the mention of hospital director, Dixon, Gwyneth felt a headache coming on and sighed, “He mentioned again that he wanted me to marry his son. Do you think, should I agree or not?”
Of course, Gwyneth would never agree to Mr. Dixon's proposal; she didn't want to sacrifice her marriage for career advancement. Though Gwyneth felt she could strive on her own, she still asked, expressing uncertainty in her decision-making.
Any dissatisfaction or discomfort she felt about this matter could become a topic of discussion for everyone in the hospital.
"As I see it... you should just agree, and marry his son. Everyone knows the director's son is useless, only interested in partying, but Director Dixon is wealthy, he owns this whole hospital. Who knows, in the future, he might hand the hospital over to you, Gwyneth." Nurse Trang said with amusement, as if marrying a man was just a trivial matter.
Gwyneth seemed to catch Nurse Trang's implications and smiled along; everyone seemed to suggest she should accept Mr. Dixon's proposal.
"Do you really think so?"
"Yes, I do. Just think about it, if you don't agree to this marriage, you'll never become the head of the department. I know you're talented, but Gwyneth, haven't you forgotten we're working for capitalists now? If you try to achieve what you want on your own, it might take another ten years. Worse, Dixon could find some reason to fire you." Nurse Trang sat down to analyze, a stark reality that was evident before them.
Gwyneth didn't show her discomfort, but inside, she felt conflicted and troubled. Her mood wasn't good, and with limited time left with Director Dixon, she felt even more pressure.
"I understand, I'll think about it carefully, thank you." Gwyneth smiled.
Nurse Trang seemed to sense Gwyneth's unhappiness, so she stood up. Before leaving the room, she turned back and said, "I'm just giving my opinion, Gwyneth, you don't have to think too much. After all, how you want to live is your own choice."
"Yes, how to live is my own choice..." Gwyneth muttered to herself as she watched the door close. She didn't understand why as a woman she was always associated with the word 'marriage'.
Gwyneth needed more time to think about this. Those who wanted her to marry might not genuinely care about her happiness; they might simply see her marriage as beneficial to them.
Carrying the heavy burden of thoughts, she continued to work, deliberately avoiding Director Dixon as much as possible to avoid answering him. Her method of avoidance was to appear extremely busy, too busy to breathe.
By the time Gwyneth finished work, it was already dark outside. She didn't forget to stop by the mall to buy some clothes for that man. She didn't like seeing a man walking around the house half-naked like that, even though Rad's physique was very attractive and captivating -
"Get out of my head now!" Gwyneth said while holding her head, her face flushing with embarrassment at her own shameful thoughts.
Standing in front of the door, darkness enveloping inside, leaving was the same as coming back, as if nothing had changed since Rad appeared. Gwyneth knew he wouldn't turn on the lights; surely, during the time she wasn't at home, he wouldn't do anything to make outsiders think someone was inside.
Gwyneth opened the door and brought in the pile of clothes without calling Rad for help. After closing the door, she turned on the lights.
"You're late." Rad wasn't naked anymore; instead, he was standing in front of her completely nude.
Gwyneth gasped in astonishment, unable to utter a word. After a moment, she spoke softly, trying to keep her voice down, "Are you crazy? Find something to wear!"
"I tried looking in your closet, but couldn't find anything suitable." Rad said nonchalantly.
Gwyneth couldn't look directly at his face, let alone look down at his lower body. She handed him the bag of clothes and said, "I bought some clothes for you randomly, put them on. Don't you know what embarrassment is?"
Rad obediently took out the clothes to wear. It was only then that Gwyneth could relax and calmly talk to him.
"Is that for me too?" Rad pointed to the gifts that a patient's family from Room 402 had sent her. To avoid the scrutiny of others, Gwyneth didn't bring them herself but asked a delivery person she knew to bring them home and place them in front of her door.
Chapter SixGwyneth didn't notice the sharp gaze Rad directed at her as she leaned against the counter, saying, "It's just a gift from a patient's family to thank me, a common occurrence that you don't need to pay attention to."As soon as Gwyneth turned to look at Rad, his expression changed, and he chuckled, "Oh really... You must be a very skilled doctor."“I'm a good doctor and of course I know this, but this gift doesn't mean I'm a good doctor. Don't ask too much, where's dinner?" Gwyneth waved her hand and said, she brought those gifts into the bedroom first.Since Gwyneth had already bought groceries and stored them in the fridge, Rad only needed to cook; he didn't have to step out of the house at all. Furthermore, because Gwyneth typically disliked disturbances and noise from the outside, the window was never opened despite the sparse population in the area."How's for dinner? Do you like it?" Rad, in a simple t-shirt, couldn't hide his muscular physique, emanating a rugged, h
Chapter SevenRad watched Gwyneth dealing with the leftovers on her plate with apparent frustration and made him burst into laughter."What's so funny?" Gwyneth frowned softly, feeling exhausted and pressured by the pointless things this man laughed at her discomfort.Rad said, "There's always a way out, you know. Just say you have a boyfriend or that you're married to someone. Surely the ones pushing you to get married will leave you alone."Gwyneth of course knows this, this is something that can easily be thought of, but if it were as simple as Rad said, she wouldn't feel this pressure. Furthermore, before that, Gwyneth also used many methods, from hard to soft, but they were also ineffective. She also hired several men to pretend to be her boyfriend, not only did she create elaborate plays to show her father and her stepmother knew and didn't push her anymore.Yet, every attempt failed for various reasons, and after a few times like that, every time Gwyneth claimed to have a boyfr
Chapter EightGwyneth thought that John would propose interesting conditions, or at least he would know how to persuade her to marry him, since he was the one who wanted to marry her, not the other way around. But it seemed that Gwyneth had overestimated this arrogant man. John not only lacked the maturity expected of a man but also believed that he was very valuable, assuming that everyone wanted to marry him. This left Gwyneth speechless and disheartened, with a hint of disdain in her smile towards this man."You're a woman, and being able to marry a wealthy man like me is a rare opportunity in your life. Do you know how many women out there want to marry me? Compared to those women, you're much luckier because I chose you over other young beautiful girls," John spoke arrogantly.Gwyneth tried to suppress a laugh because she knew the women John referred to were likely bar staff. Although she had no opinion about their profession, in their eyes, John was indeed a wealthy man who coul
Chapter NineOnly being strangers who coincidentally met and helped each other in times of difficulty, Gwyneth and Rad were no different. Unlike previous occasions, Gwyneth didn't have to spend a large sum to hire a stranger to pretend to be her boyfriend. This time, there was a man who voluntarily offered to pose as her husband. The 'husband' issue had been resolved, but if Gwyneth were to tell others that Rad was her husband, her stepmother would certainly not believe it. So, to completely bury their suspicions, Gwyneth decided not to be casual about it this time.Gwyneth would ensure that no one would discover Rad as her fake husband. Naturally, marriage-related documents such as marriage certificates couldn't be missing. Gwyneth also worried that the organization pursuing Rad might discover him, so she found a way to help Rad obtain a fake ID card, and of course, all the information on it was also fake.Falsifying such documents wasn't difficult but it cost quite a bit of money. D
Chapter TenThe dinner proceeded rather awkwardly because there was someone who shouldn't have been there—Rad. Yet, Gwyneth enjoyed seeing the forced, amiable expressions on her father and stepmother's faces towards him.Zelda appeared to ignore the man accompanying Gwyneth, but she couldn't help stealing a few glances. She had seen a few men accompany Gwyneth to similar gatherings before, but none as handsome as this one."Gwyneth, your father was a bit upset last time, which is why he raised his voice at you. Hopefully, you didn't take it to heart, but your father and I are just concerned about you. Mr. Allen doesn't have much free time, so you should give an answer," urged her stepmother, then turned to Allen with a charming smile. "I hope you don't mind. Gwyneth is too passionate about her work and has never been in love before, so this marriage might make her a bit uneasy."While her stepmother prodded Gwyneth for an answer, she also spoke to Allen. Gwyneth knew she was just pret
Chapter One"Dr. Gwyneth, are you finished for the day? You're not on duty tonight?" the friendly nurse asked.Gwyneth's mood was extremely cheerful. "I'm not on duty tonight. I finished early, so I want to treat myself to something. Everyone, enjoy your work, I'm heading out now.""Well... her single life is really admirable. I wish I could also dedicate time to myself like she does. Life isn't just about running around with kids..." the nurse next to her sighed.Another male nurse standing nearby chuckled, "I don't think she's as comfortable as you think. I heard her family is pressuring her to get married; they've even chosen a suitor for her. Can you believe there are still arranged marriages in this day and age?"Gwyneth was twenty-seven years old, but she had never thought about marriage. She just wanted to live a happy and content single life, enjoying everything on her own terms. However, that was her own thinking. Her parents and relatives thought differently; they believed s
Chapter TwoGwyneth had never encountered someone as shameless as this man. It was clear that she was the host, the one who had saved him, yet he showed no hint of gratitude whatsoever. Even before Gwyneth could take a bite of her sandwich, the man snatched it swiftly, eating right in front of her with a challenging demeanor. Gwyneth found his behavior utterly perplexing but still offered the advice, "Even if you're hungry, there's no need to devour your food like that. Too much activity will cause the treated wounds to tear."Gwyneth didn't want to argue with a patient like him. She checked her watch, put on her coat, noticed the man still engrossed in his breakfast, grabbed some money, and handed it to him."You'd better head to the hospital. Here's the cab fare. That's the best I can do for you, young man. You should go home; your family must be worried sick. I have to go to work now, and I don't have time to take you anywhere," Gwyneth said as she left the house, intentionally lea
Chapter ThreeGwyneth looked at him still wearing her loose dress, the dress she wore had to reach her ankles but he only wore it to his knees. On top of that, the top part of the dress was about to tear because of his chest. She avoided looking at him because if she did, she wouldn't be able to suppress her urge to burst into laughter. However, Gwyneth didn't forget the main topic. She asked seriously, "If you feel you can't go to the hospital alone, let me take you-"Gwyneth wanted to say more, but she heard him say, "I can't go to the hospital, or more precisely, I can't go out. Last night, you also saw the wounds on my body, right? I was pursued by a secret organization. They want to chase and kill me, so if they find me, I'll surely die."As soon as he finished speaking, the atmosphere became unusually quiet and tense. Gwyneth shuddered slightly as she tried to remain calm and skeptical of his words, then she asked, "So... why do they want to kill you?""I know the secrets of tha
