EVELYN’S POV:
Dana walked in with a broad smile on her face, and I greeted her warmly, a wide smile spreading across my own face. I noticed the questioning look in her eyes, but I ignored it. I stepped aside to let her in and followed closely behind as she entered.
One thing I knew for certain was that I needed to keep an eye on every move she made.
We sat on the couch in the den room, chatting for a bit and catching up on each other’s lives, though I knew we were both pretending.
She commented on how nice it was to see me happy again, and I appreciated her kind words, even though I didn’t fully believe them.
My dad walked in, greeted Dana with a warm smile, and exchanged a brief hug before leaving the room to give us some privacy.
As our conversation continued, she brought up Caleb, but I quickly changed the subject. I wasn’t ready to discuss him yet. “If you could just slow it down—not now,” I thought to myself.
Instead, I suggested we head to the kitchen to cook lunch together. The happiness on her face was evident—she probably thought I was on her side now. Little did she know I was far ahead of her plan.
I had given the cooks the day off, hoping to bond with her over cooking and making sure she thought I was completely vulnerable. I wanted her guard down so she would act carelessly. Keeping her close was the best way to keep watch.
We spent the next hour cooking and laughing together. The aroma of roasted vegetables and sizzling meat filled the kitchen.
When we were done, we sat at the dining table to eat. By then, my dad had joined us. The table was lively with chatter and laughter, but I noticed something was off with my dad. He seemed distracted, but I decided to wait until later to speak with him about it.
After dinner, I took Dana to my apartment, wanting to show her something. As we walked in, I gestured toward the frame Caleb had gifted me.
"Hey, look at this," I said, trying to sound casual. Pointing to the bouquet of flowers .
Dana’s eyes widened as she looked at the frame. "Oh, it’s beautiful!" she exclaimed, and then, almost impulsively, added, "It was actually my idea."
"Wait, what?" I said, feigning surprise. My eyes snapped to hers. "You knew about it before I got it?"
Dana stuttered, trying to defend herself. "No, Caleb asked me if you would like it. He wasn’t sure and wanted to make sure you loved it. As your best friend, it was thoughtful of him to ask me," she said, looking at me hopefully.
I nodded understandingly, pretending to accept her explanation. But inside, I was satisfied. My questions were answering themselves, and I was starting to see a clearer picture of what was happening.
If keeping them close was the easiest way for them to expose themselves, I would tolerate it for now.
"You know," I began, "I was thinking we should all hang out soon—the three of us—just for the sake of the last time. We didn’t end well, remember?"
Her eyes widened slightly, glistening as she considered my suggestion.
"Eve," she said, her voice steady, "I need you and Caleb to come back together soon. Caleb has really great intentions toward you. He’ll make you and your dad proud. I’m positive he’ll take great care of the company.
"I’ve always dreamed of you becoming a big, successful fashion designer, and I know you will be. With Caleb, a happy home is guaranteed."
Her gaze locked on mine, as if searching for something—some hidden feeling she wanted to confirm.
"Dana," I said firmly, "let’s not do this right now. I need more time to make any permanent decisions."
Her phone buzzed suddenly, and she silenced it immediately. She seemed nervous, her gaze darting around the room.
The phone beeped again, and she excused herself to take the call.
I followed her quietly and overheard her say Caleb’s name, but I couldn’t make out the rest of the conversation. Deciding not to risk being caught, I went back to the room.
When she returned, she glanced around as if worried someone had been listening.
"Is everything okay?" I asked, trying to sound casual.
"Yes," she replied quickly.
Not five minutes later, she announced it was time for her to leave. I agreed, and we returned to my dad’s house so she could say goodbye.
My dad requested some private time with her, and they stepped aside to talk.
I excused myself, brushing off my curiosity about their conversation. Sitting outside, I pulled out my phone and texted Leonard, wondering why I hadn’t heard from him all day.
As I waited for his response, I saw Dana coming out of the house. What startled me was the look on her face—she seemed furious. Her eyes blazed with anger, and she stormed out, almost running. She didn’t even acknowledge me.
I called out to her, yelling her name, but she didn’t stop. She got into a waiting cab and sped off, leaving me standing there in confusion.
I dashed inside, desperate to ask my dad what had happened.
"What happened?" I asked him, my heart racing.
"Nothing, darling," he said with a smile, his expression calm and unreadable.
His calm demeanor was what confused me more.
I tried to collect Dan’s reaction and his, now everything was just crazy.
I stood there, trying to process everything, but one thing was clear: my dad was hiding something, and I had to find out what it was.
I was more scared of What Dana can do for a payback.
I was shattered and devastated, but my dad seemed to care less.
“ You don't get yourself all worked up my darling.Just go get ready for tomorrow.
Everything is fine, got it?
He questioned in an unexpecting tone.
That wasn't what I wanted to hear.
EVELYN’S POV:"What's going on, Dad?" I asked demandingly, staring sternly into his eyes, waiting for him to say something comprehensible. He seemed confused and gave me a look as if he didn’t understand what I was talking about. The whole thing was making me impatient, and I felt like I was losing my mind."Cut this off, Dad. This isn’t like you. What did you do to Dana?""Oh, darling, I only spoke to her about a matter that didn’t sit well with her. And, let’s just say, it wouldn’t feel right in your presence either. But don’t worry—it’s harmless, darling. Now, can we do something else?""What can’t you say in my presence but can with Dana? What don’t you want me to know? Do we keep secrets now?" I inquired, already losing myself. Why wasn’t anyone saying anything to me?"My darling, you’re too young to understand, and you’ll only know when the time is right. And listen, I don’t ever want to hear you bring this up again," he said firmly. "Just know your dad loves you so much and wou
LEONARD’S POV.I sat at my desk in the private section of my office, going over some documents, but I lost focus when thoughts of Evelyn barged into my mind.I had planned to take her shopping after her meeting. She needed something classy and beautiful for her birthday. I couldn’t quite explain why I was so invested in it, but I felt compelled to make sure everything was perfect.I picked up my phone and began searching the web for birthday dress ideas.“Fuck,” I cursed under my breath, realizing how impatient I was being. We could go to the store together and find something that suited her better, rather than me scrolling through the internet.I set my phone aside and tried to get back to work.Moments later, my phone rang. I picked it up, expecting it to be one of my colleagues—or maybe even Evelyn. But instead, it was my watchman, Alex. For a while now, I had assigned him to ensure Evelyn’s safety and well-being wherever she went."Sir, I have some bad news," he said, his voice low
LEONARD’S POV:Just as I had concluded, the door sprang open, and the doctor walked in, holding a file that we were sure contained the test results. An impulse drove me out of my seat as I rushed to the doctor. “What is it, doctor?” I demanded. The doctor recognized me and tried to offer some respectful greetings, but I grabbed him by the arm, cutting him off. “What’s wrong with her?” I asked again, more insistently.“Mr. Henderson Leonard, you need to remain calm. She will be fine; it just needs some time before she fully recovers,” he said in a reassuring tone.I felt a bit relieved but still couldn’t quell the curiosity and anxiety gnawing at me. I was about to press him further when Evelyn’s father spoke up for the first time.“What happened, doctor?” he asked, his voice trembling.“She may have unknowingly ingested some poison, which her body is currently reacting to,” the doctor explained. Before he could elaborate, we were momentarily distracted by a nurse entering with a tray
LEONARD’S POV:My nerves were completely active, ready to indulge in aggressiveness. I slid my phone into my pocket and sat on a nearby chair. Beads of sweat gathered on my forehead as my thoughts swirled uncontrollably.I still couldn’t believe what was happening. Why would Aaron do such a thing? What was his motive? Who had sent him? How many more enemies does Evelyn have to face? These questions looped in my mind, my head buried in my hands. But one thought stayed longer than the rest—I had to find out what Aaron wanted.Aaron was known to be a good guy, according to Evelyn who would always stand by students who got bullied back at school. He was a senior prefect who considered everyone. What happened now and who sent him. They did have a relationship together with Evelyn so why would he even want her to lose. But time will tell soon.I concluded.I stood abruptly, deciding to check on Evelyn. Walking through the hallway toward her room, I passed a sign that read EMERGENCY UNIT, a
Evelyn's POV: As I slowly opened my eyes, I could hear a faint beeping sound. It grew louder as my vision adjusted, and I realized I was in a hospital room. My hand was connected to a drip stand, and my dad sat beside me, his head buried in his hands. I tried to speak, but my voice came out as a whisper.“Dad,” I croaked, my throat dry.He looked up, and our eyes met. A tear rolled down his cheek, and his face was etched with concern.“It’s okay, Dad. I’m fine,” I whispered, trying to sound stronger than I felt.He took my hand in his and moved closer. “You’ve been unconscious for a while,” he said, his voice shaking. “We were so worried. I’m just glad you’re awake.”I tried to recall what had happened, but my memory was hazy. Then, like a lightning flash, I remembered. I’d felt dizzy during a meeting, and everything had gone dark. My head felt heavy, as though I hadn’t slept in days.Just as I opened my mouth to ask Dad what the doctors had said, he mentioned Leonard. He told me Le
EVELYN'S POV:As I sat on the couch, I couldn’t shake off the feeling of unease. Curiosity gnawed at me, and my mind raced with questions. What are they hiding from me?The uncertainty fueled my frustration and anger. If something serious was happening, why wasn’t I being informed?I couldn’t help myself anymore. I needed answers. I need to know what happened to me.That isn't too much of a request.“Dad, please,” I said, trying to sound calm, though my voice betrayed me. “Someone tell me what’s going on.”My dad stood and placed a hand on my shoulder. “Relax, dear. You just need to rest and eat something. We can talk later.”But his words didn’t reassure me. I turned to Leonard, who was trying hard to appear composed, though I could see through his forced smile. I gave him a soft questioning look.“Leonard,” I asked, my voice firmer, “can you please tell me what’s going on? Don't you think I deserve to know?”Leonard smiled softly and placed a hand on my arm. “Everything is fine, Ev
EVELYN'S POV:I was surprised to see a saxophonist playing birthday songs. I instantly knew the surprise was from Leonard. A series of boxed gifts lay neatly packed on the table. Overwhelmed with joy, I jumped on him, giving him a tight hug.“Thank you so much!” I exclaimed, tears welling up in my eyes. Everything was so beautiful and alluring. We spent the next few minutes unboxing the gifts, and I was amazed at how thoughtful they were. Leonard had truly outdone himself. No words could express my gratitude. I looked into his eyes and said, “Thank you, Leonard. This means so much to me.”Just then, there was a knock on the door, and my dad entered without waiting for a response. His face showed surprise at the sight of all the gifts. I quickly told him they were from Leonard, and he thanked him graciously. But then, my dad asked Leonard to excuse us. Once Leonard left, my dad looked at me seriously and asked, “What’s going on between you and Leonard?” His voice was filled with emotio
EVELYN'S POV:"Happy birthday, Evelyn," Leonard whispered in my ear.I stood in front of the Bentley Continental GT, stunned and speechless. It was everything I’d ever dreamed of. Overwhelmed, I walked to the car, took the keys from one of the guards, and ignited the engine. The smooth hum sent a thrill through me, and I screamed a thank you from inside before stepping out.The car was stunning, a perfect reflection of my long-held wish. I couldn’t hold back my excitement and jumped into Leonard’s arms, wrapping myself around his neck. "Thank you so much!" I exclaimed, tears of joy streaming down my face. Overcome with emotion, I kissed him, and he deepened the kiss, making the world around us fade for a moment. He grabbed me by butt and pulled me as if going inside his body. And the kiss we shared deppened like it was never ending.Cheers and congratulations snapped me back to reality as the crowd clapped around us. Leonard laughed and hugged me tightly. "You're welcome, Evelyn. I’m
Happily Ever After“Yes, I do,” Evelyn said, tears streaming down her face as she stood beside the love of her life, Leonard. The sun set behind them, casting golden hues across the beach, where a small crowd of family and close friends clapped in celebration. Evelyn’s heart raced as the pastor, with a gentle grin, declared, “By the power vested in me by the state, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride now.”Leonard didn’t hesitate. He pulled Evelyn close, capturing her lips in a deep, passionate kiss. His mother playfully covered her face, peeking through her fingers, while the crowd cheered and laughed.“Grandma, I want to join Mummy and Daddy!” Ryan and River said in unison, their excitement contagious. Without waiting for permission, they ran to the couple, joining them on the floor. Evelyn and Leonard embraced the kids, laughing as they all danced together when the music began to play.Though the ceremony was intimate, the guests in attendance were people o
Evelyn's POVIt was Leonard, he was carrying the baby, the excitement in his face before I slept off had vanished. “ Babe, what's going on?” I asked. But he didn't say anything, his head was just bowed down slightly, as if finding answers from the baby.My mind started reeling with several thoughts, I knew he had gone to see my dad, did he not like the child?“ Say something.” I said desperately.“ I'm sorry Evelyn.” He said but then paused again, his lips shaking. The door of the room opened again, and the Caregiver walked in.She was also cold. I became confused.“ Was anything wrong with my baby? I asked myself.“ Babe you have to be strong, I'm sorry Mr Wyatt. He didn't complete his sentence when I realized what he was trying to say.My dad was dead, Mr Wyatt was dead. My life was over, literally what came to my mind.“ Noo, no, say something else.” I said, tears streaming down my face.It became difficult to breathe. I was choking on air. I wept bitterly on the bed, Leonard trie
EVELYN’S POV:It had been over two months since the failed surgery. My dad had been living on what felt like a miracle ever since. Each day with him was a gift, a fragile thread holding him here. Leonard, Mia, and the caregiver had been the pillars of support I leaned on during those challenging months.Ryan and River visited often, bringing small moments of joy, but today wasn’t about my dad or them. Today, it was my turn on the hospital bed. Inside the labor room, I lay ready—or as ready as anyone could be—to meet the life I had carried for nine months. The pain I felt was incomparable, beyond anything I’d ever imagined.I clung tightly to Leonard’s hand. He stood beside me, his calm voice trying to pierce through my haze of agony. “You’re doing so well, babe. Just a little more.”A doctor—or maybe a nurse or midwife—entered the room, her expression calm yet purposeful. I knew it was time. She held a syringe, walking briskly toward me.“Hello, madam. Just relax and stay calm. You ca
LEONARD’S POV:Then I turned my attention back to driving. Even though this was supposed to be exciting news on a normal day, we couldn't celebrate it."I'm hungry," Evelyn said. I gave her a questioning look.I turned the car onto another route as we started looking for a restaurant. We eventually found one and walked inside. The meal was nice, and I realized I was also hungry. After eating, we didn’t leave immediately; we stayed for a while to relax. Then a call came to my phone. I took it out and saw it was a new number. Surprisingly, I hesitated before answering, wondering who it could be.“Good day, sir,” a voice said on the other end.I tried to recognize the voice but couldn’t.“I’m from the press hub,” the voice continued. My interest piqued. “What’s the situation?” I asked urgently.“We have three offers right now,” he said.A wave of excitement washed over me for a moment.“Alright, I need their details immediately,” I said and hung up.I turned to speak to Evelyn, only to r
LEONARD’S POV:"It's the court hearing; it's tomorrow. It had just slipped my mind," I said to her, my words unorganized."I'm famished," she said, ignoring the information I had just shared, as if she hadn't asked in the first place."Here you go," I said, serving her meal."Smells so good," she said, sniffing the food while closing her eyes.We had a quick breakfast. Time flew by, and before I knew it, it was the next morning. When I woke up, Evelyn was sleeping peacefully beside me on the bed. The only unusual thing was her large baby bump, which I had grown used to."Good morning, baby," I whispered in her ear and kissed her before getting out of bed.I went to the kitchen and poured myself a glass of water. After finishing it, I started making coffee for us. I was almost done when a familiar voice interrupted me."Good morning," Evelyn said with a bright smile. Even though we were indoors, she shone like the sun.I moved toward her, kissed her cheek playfully, and then kissed her
LEONARD’S POV:Her checkups and scan didn’t take much time. The baby was fine and Evelyn was in perfect condition. Though the doctor recommended so much rest. Afterward, she requested to see the twins.“But they had left only yesterday!” I protested. The twins had become a big part of our lives, visiting from time to time. Even though they stayed at their grandparents’ house, their bond with Evelyn remained strong. They were so fond of her that they never wanted to leave whenever they came over. The feeling was mutual.“But I miss them,” she said, pouting her lips. “We won’t stay long; it’ll just be a brief visit.”“I know, but the doctor said you need rest. You should get some,” I tried to convince her. But Evelyn wasn’t one to give up easily.Eventually, she succeeded in convincing me instead. I called the kids' grandparents on our way to inform them of our visit. As soon as we arrived, the kids ran out to welcome us. I scooped both of them into my arms and lifted them high. Only t
LEONARD’S POV:I adjusted the car seat and pulled her toward me. She tried to pull away, but she couldn’t match my strength.“Leave me alone. I hate you,” she said, hitting me violently. But I kept my hold firm on her. After a moment of crying and consoling, she eventually calmed down.“Evelyn, I promise everything will be fine,” I said reassuringly.“No, nothing is fine. He’s getting worse every day,” she replied, her voice frail. She clung to me and sobbed gently. “I don’t want anything to happen to him.”“Of course not,” I answered. When she was calm enough, I started the car and we drove to the hospital.“How are you, Evelyn?” my mom asked as soon as we stepped inside the hospital room. The caregiver was sitting on a chair, while my mom sat beside Mr. Wyatt on his bed. He was awake now, though he looked so weak and pale. He wasn't the Mr Wyatt I knew months back anymore. We settled in and tried to cheer Mr. Wyatt up. We had a good time that evening. It was the first time I’d seen
LEONARD’S POV:“I miss you so much,” I said to her, placing a kiss on her cheek and then her forehead.“And you had to do this?” she said mockingly to me.“Of course, I’ll do it anytime,” I replied. She giggled and hugged me again.“Good afternoon, sir,” her secretary walked up to us and greeted me.I responded, and then we made preparations to leave. Evelyn and I stayed entwined with each other the entire time. We all boarded the jet and took off.Evelyn’s face shifted slightly, and before I could ask her what was wrong, she said, “How is my dad?”I kept quiet for a moment, thinking of how to respond. “He’s steady for now,” I lied. I couldn’t bring myself to tell her the truth—not yet.“I can’t wait to see him,” she said happily.“Sure, you’ll see him soon,” I replied, trying to sound confident.Even though she appeared happy, her face was still marked with dark circles, and I could see through her mask. She was deeply worried about her dad.“My mom is also at the hospital; she came
LEONARD’S POV:“I figured you haven’t had time to eat,” she said, noticing the amusement on my face.As I ate, we had a little conversation, and then she asked, “How do you intend to break the news to Evelyn?”I slightly choked on the food and let out a faint cough. I was frozen for a moment. It was still a question that lingered in my mind, unanswered.“I don't know. I’ve thought about it several times, but I can’t seem to find a good way to say it to her,” I explained. My mom placed her hand on my shoulder and said, “Just take it easy on yourself.”“Thank you, Mom,” I replied and continued eating my meal. Then my phone rang suddenly. I quickly picked it up without even checking the caller.“Good afternoon, sir,” the voice on the other end said respectfully.“The project has been approved. I just received an email—have you seen it yet?” he asked.I’d been so busy I hadn’t even thought about work. I had almost forgotten I was waiting for an approval. This was good news. It was a multi
