Chapter 91

Rae’s Pov

It’s been a few hours and Toby hasn’t woken up. The doctor tells me that he will be fine. I don’t want to leave his side but I don’t have a choice. I spent too much energy. There’s blood on my clothes as well. I don’t want to look at it anymore. Mama has come in to sit with me.

“Rae, sweetheart. You keep looking down at your shirt. Why don’t you run to my house and change your clothes?” She says.

“I don’t want to leave his side, Mama.”

“I know that you don’t, honey, but it is necessary. Besides, you are swaying.”

“It’s okay, Mama. I’ll just curl up beside Toby and sleep.”

“Maybe you should change first, sweetie.” Mama suggests.

I nod my head. “Alright, Mama. I’ll run home to shower and change. If he..” I glance at Toby as tears fill my eyes. “If he wakes up, please let him know that I’ll be right back.”

“I will, sweetie. It’ll be okay. He’ll understand. I’ll make sure we get him situated so you can climb up with him.”

“Thank you, Mama.”
