~Cali~
Our wedding is an intimate one. I guess it has become a tradition in our family to have weddings away from people’s prying eyes.
We flew to Castlebar, where Evan’s mother and sister are residing. I was nervous as hell as the plane landed in Ireland. I don’t know if his mom would like me or not. His sister Aoibhe is the only person I got to talk to over the phone for the details of our wedding and I knew we would be really good sisters. Shawn and Daniel flew three days early to secure every detail regarding the preparation.
“Princess?” Evan pressed my hand as we drove to his mom’s place. Our family and friends came with us, but they’ll be staying in a hotel. It was my bright idea that we stay in his mom’s place and now I’m dreading this decision.
“Hm?”
“Mamaí will love you.” He raised our twined hand on his lips, kissing the back of my knuckles.
I sighed, “what if she doesn’t?”
“That’s nonsense, baby,” he assured me, wounding his arms around my shoulder, pulling me closer to him.
As we traveled to his mom’s place, I watched the town where he spent those months that he tried to forget about me. This town looks so peaceful, so far from the noise and sleepless nights of New York City. No traffic, no crowded streets, and as the drive took place, Evan opened his window, greeting a few pedestrians along the way.
“You seemed to love this place,” I commented as our driver took a curve, now entering a much verdant scenery. Everywhere I look, green is the dominant color. This town preserved the environment pretty well, and the fresh chilly air made my skin tickle as it filled the confines of our car.
“I enjoyed my stay here with mamaí and Aoibhe. It’s one of those places where everyone knows everyone,” he chuckled. “There was even a point where I never wanted to leave. I like the laid-back lifestyle, still do.”
I hummed, understanding what he meant. When we met in Barbados, I never thought Evan was a CEO of a billion-dollar company. It crossed my mind a few times because of the way he brings himself. But I never met a person who worked harder than him every time we were together. Even now, he still works on the ground with his people and it’s truly a remarkable attitude of his.
Out of curiosity, I asked, “what made you change your mind?”
If he didn’t leave this place and stayed with his family, I don’t think I’d be wearing this engagement ring on my finger today.
“You.”
I bite on my lip, suppressing a smile from tearing my face apart. “Me?”
Even chuckled, poking my nose, “you know why.”
I shook my head, teasing him. “No, I don’t.”
He let out a groan. “You really want me to say it?”
I nodded, the tension twisting my nerve earlier now so far - it probably flew back to Manhattan by itself. His smile is contagious, everything about him is addictive.
“You’re teasing me. Wait till I have you all to myself.”
“We have the rest of our lives for that, Evan.”
A flash of emotion that I could only associate with love overcame his beautiful face. He clasped the back of my neck, tilting my face to claim my lips in a gentle kiss.
God, I’m so in love with him.

As soon as we stepped inside the five-bedroom house, Evan moved to embrace the lady with deep chestnut hair. It was almost nighttime when we arrived, and the fireplace in the living room was enough to make me feel at home.
“Mamaí,” Evan pulled away from the lady, who can not be mistaken to be Evan’s mom, Laoise. Evan inherited her bright brown eyes. And I can’t help but feel edgy about the way she was regarding me. “This is my fiancée, Cali.”
I’ve never felt more nervous in my entire life about someone’s impression of me, but I took a deep breath and smiled, offering my hand for a shake. “It’s nice to meet-”
Laoise’s gesture rendered me speechless. She hauled me for a hug, a warm, tight embrace that made me sigh in relief. “Welcome to our home, iníon.” Having been learning little Irish because of Evan, her endearment made my eyes mist as she rubbed my back up and down. (daughter)
It was nice to have two of my fiancé’s mother’s approval. And I knew right then that everything would be okay, just like what Evan mumbled.
Aoibhe, Evan’s sister, was a different story, though. If his mom greeted me with an embrace, the girl with blond hair like Evan tackled me to the ground when she came downstairs, resulting in both of us landing on their warm carpeted floor.
Evan and Laoise scolded her. But I told them I was okay. She acts as if we’ve been friends since we were little, and I kinda love it that way.
We talked about our plans for the wedding over dinner and the food was damn amazing. I can’t help moaning with each bite I had of dublin coddle and Irish stew. His mom also prepared pasta dishes for me, but I was so in love with the leftover meals. I ate so much that I knew my wedding dress wouldn’t fit for tomorrow. Good thing I have Shawn with me to make adjustments.
~~
I volunteered to wash the dishes and was glad that they allowed me while Aoibhe played the piano. Evan was keen on listening to his sister sing and I bet Ren would fall in love with her instantly.
“Need help?” Laoise’s voice startled me. I was keenly listening to Aoibhe, wondering if she’d want to become a recording artist, for she got a damn wonderful voice.
“Uhm,” I shook my head. “Almost done.” I smiled, setting the last set of silverware into the drawer after drying them.
“I never knew you are such a beauty.” Her words turned me into a blushing mess. She giggled and patted my shoulder, probably seeing me shifting in my foot. “Glad that he finally gave it to you.” She motioned to my engagement ring. “That boy took long enough to have the balls and ask for your hand.”
I almost choked on my breath. Both from her blatant words and wonder… only if she knew how we ended up being engaged...
“Evan told me this was yours,” I said instead, leaning on the counter, accepting the cup of tea she made while I finished my chores. “I’m honored to wear it. Thank you so much-” her brows raised “-Mamaí.”
She scolded me through dinner for not calling her that and it’s nice, actually, to get approval from both of Evan’s mother.
“I will not accept you inside this house again if you don’t call me Mamaí…” her eyes squinting playfully, making me sigh and giggle.
Now I get where Evan’s playfulness came from.
~~
“Are you ready for today?” Evan asked me as we waited for morning to come.
I am damn excited for this day to arrive that I barely got a wink of sleep.
“Are you?” I laid on my side, propping on my elbows, gazing at his beautiful face. I can’t believe I’m getting married to the love of my life. Although a little late in my timeline, the saying better late than never is still better indeed.
“You still have time to change your mind,” he mimicked my lying position, fingers tracing the neckline of his sweatshirt that I slept on.
“Why? Are you afraid that I will dominate you again?” I crawled on top of him, pushing him to submit. He groaned as I ground my hips on the obviously excited part of his body.
“I don’t mind being under you, Princess,” he smirked, surprising me by flipping us over. “As long as I get to have you forever.”
I blushed under him. “Are we really getting married today?”
His lips crashed against mine, gently and lovingly. “Yes, and I get to have two weeks alone with you for our honeymoon.”
“Why don’t we move that honeymoon part a tad earlier than scheduled?” I was already tugging on the hem of his sweater.
Evan smirked, “anything for you, Princess.”
To say Ren and Shawn scolded me for having a lot of lovebites on my wedding day was an understatement. Well, their lectures fell on deaf ears. I was too happy and honored to be Mrs. Evan Carter, so scold away...

~Evan~ Dusk dawned, Harbour Lights Barbados comes to life. Everywhere I look, all sizes, age and shapes of people crowd the nightlife of this beautiful city, mingling together for one reason – to enjoy the fire – the excitement of seeing something different, something new. It was easy to get lost in a place where no one really knows who I am. And who I was or who I want to be. For these people around me, chattering, dancing, drinking and getting lost in conversations with their companions, I’m just another tourist lost in the magnificent city of Bridgetown. The frost feel of this beer bottle in my hands was the exact opposite of the warm breeze coming from Carlisle Bay. This bottle kept me company while I rejected every girl that came up to me with an invitation to their hotel room.
~Cali~There are a few things in life I have little tolerance for. My sister’s voice – which is a total lie – a hungover and a stinking smell.Feeling the soft sheets against my skin, I buried my face deeper into the feather soft pillow under my cheeks. It smells sweet and sour, like green apples on a hot summer's day.Apples.I don’t smell like apples. In my sleepy state, I tried to stand only to fall face flat on the floor with a loud thud. Groaning, I perceived I wasn’t on a bed. The black leather couch where I laid seconds ago came into view on my hazy sight. The world was spinning; the couch was spinning, although I don’t think the end of t
~Cali~Such pretty brown eyes staring at me. I never thought I’d seen such a shade of brown. Honey gold flakes highlighted by brown strands that made his eyes look like gems under those long lashes. His lips were so full and red as if someone had sucked the life out of him. His nose is whittle to perfection and the day old stubble on his sharp jaws didn’t take away any ounce of his appeal. His hair is a mesh gold, almost brown locks, a few strands fell on his face in a sexy way…I need to stop with the adjectives for a bit.“Thank you,” I politely accepted the drink from the glaring bartender. Since I saw her make the drink in front of me, I am willing to accept this drink from this gorgeous stranger.
~Cali~Glide and caress. My lips parted from my stunned stance, allowing this stranger to slip his tongue inside my mouth with ease. With eyes wide open, all I could do was watch his eyelids pressed tightly. He groans, sounding satisfied with what he was tasting. His hold on my arms was firm and gentle at the same time. The feel of his grip, the pressure of his fingers on my skin is enough to convince me he is enjoying what he is taking. My frozen hands instinctively advanced on their own, clinging onto the nape of his neck. Just like what I thought, his locks felt like silk sandwiched between my curious fingers.I can feel everything he was doing to me. Every caress of his tongue is wonderful and sweet, possessive and aggressive… and I like it.
~Cali~“Shut up,” groping on the side table, I groaned at the annoying vibration of the alarm. Why does it have to be so loud in announcing that it’s time to face reality again? I couldn’t even reach for the damn annoying thing. My limbs are too short even for just reaching this damn irritating alarm clock!Pushing the duvet from my body, chills ignited on my bare skin, the silk fabric rolled in my waist. I reached for the annoying garish thing. “sta 'zitto!”Who the hell sets an alarm on a freaking vacation?Only Cali Reed. Stupid me.Grumbling, I rubbed my temple in circles. How did I end up naked in bed?Seeing my clothes scattered on the flo

~Cali~ It took me a moment to calm down. These last few days have been so overwhelming, I can barely keep up with my emotions. Olivia, sitting beside me, is still clasping my hands in her delicate ones. There is something about a mother’s touch. It’s like magic hands that penetrate through my heart that magically squeeze away all my worries, as if the soothing sensation tells me that everything is going to be okay. Ren has that ability to calm me. Now I have another motherly warmth to take refuge into in Olivia’s form. I sipped the chamomile tea that she prepared for me. The warm liquid slipped down my esophagus, soothing my nerves. “H-how are you not mad at me?” I finally found my voice, and gazed into the eyes of the w
~Cali~ Tangled in each other’s arms, we have had no sleep yet, both spent and exhausted. My head rests on Evan’s chest, fingers tracing the patterns of his perfect pectorals while my ears pressed above his heart, its beating gentle and calm. “Why do you want to marry me, Princess?” He asked, fingers threading through my sweat-damp hair. I looked up at him, chin resting above my closed knuckles. He’s as beautiful as ever, even with those worry lines on the side of his eyes and forehead. “I need you.” Evan regarded me as if he’s waiting for another kind of explanation. “If this is about my company, I don’t want it, baby. I do want to be with you - forever, but if you’re doing this because of the case-” With my forefinger o
~Cali~It was three in the morning when Evan returned to bed, his usual routine. He smells of mint and eucalyptus, masking the scent of bourbon. He thought I was asleep, kissing my forehead before wrapping his arms around my waist.“Evan?” I spoke, my voice was hoarse from the emotions I’ve been holding in since I heard his talk with Sander.“Did I wake you?” he leaned on his hand, propping himself up with his elbows digging on our pillow. I turned to face him, his hands instantly coming up to brush my cheek, up and down, soft caress with the back of his hand. His wrist is healed now, he sprained it again when he punched Nate, but he’s nursing a wound that can’t be cured with any kind of over-the-counter medicines.
~Cali~ “Fuck,” Nate stood up, wiping his bleeding lip with the back of his hand, “you will pay for this.” Evan cupped my face, “get in the car, Cali.” He kissed my forehead and Nate continued to mumble threats after threats. “You shouldn’t be here, Evan,” I whispered. My brain is finally working. We broke the deal with Nate, with him being here. His company - everything we worked for will go to waste… because of me. “She’s right. You should’ve stayed away,” Nate butted in. “It’s okay, baby, get in the car, please?” Evan pleaded. I waved my head. “Evan… he will release those files.” Evan sighed, closing his eyes. “I don’t care ab
~Cali~It hurts everywhere, but the pain in my head is the dominant one. A continuous whopping pound kept ringing, hammering my brains out.I shifted in my lying position, hoping for an angle to relieve a little of the throbbing. The jasmine fragrance on the pillow tells me I am in my room even without needing sight. I buried my face deeper into the cushion, wishing the feather feel of the material would grace me with little ease - it didn’t.“Hey.” My eyes forced open in recognition of Evan’s voice. He’s here, sitting on the chair beside my bed, gazing at me with pale honey eyes. “Evan…” I breathe out, forgetting about the headache I was nursing seconds ago. He’s always been a good medicine of mine.
