Heather had never met Craig's mother, Evelyn Donovan. She had only ever heard him talk about her.

Craig's father had died when he was a boy, leaving Evelyn to raise two sons on her own. She had struggled and often worked herself sick trying to make ends meet.

Eventually, she had become chronically ill, and her condition had only worsened in the last few years.

Heather honestly didn't blame Craig for giving in to Evelyn's demands, but that was a choice he had made, and he should be the one to bear the consequences of it.
