Chapter 20: Emotions supersedes logic

Camilla's POV

"Can you trust me and tell me what is going on?" Lawrence asked, his voice tinged with concern. I wanted to confide in him, but I feared it might make things worse.

"I would never harm my kids. Raymond was adamant about keeping this from the police," I thought to myself, torn between the desire to share my burden and the need to protect my children.

“I'm fine, Lawrence. There's no need to worry about me," I said, raising my voice to mask the emotion threatening to spill over.

"Alright then," Lawrence replied, sensing my turmoil but choosing not to press further. "I called to discuss our son's future. We need to meet."

"I'll be very busy for the next few days, Lawrence. Come to my office at the hospital. It's the easiest place for us to meet," I suggested, trying to maintain some semblance of control.

"That will be fine, Cam. I'll be at your office tomorrow."

Britney, who had been sitting silently beside me, signalled that I should not reveal the kidnapping to Lawrence.
