Chapter 26 : The Clash

Camilla's POV,

The tension in the room was palpable. Fear was etched on my children's faces as the echo of gunshots filled the air. Mira trembled uncontrollably, her anxiety almost tangible.

“Mum, what's going on?” George asked, his voice quivering, the relentless gunfire outside making time seem to stretch indefinitely.

“Some bad people are outside, and the police are trying to save us,” I explained, trying to make sense of the chaos for them.

“Where is Daddy?” he pressed, worried about knitting his brow.

“I don’t know right now,” I replied, noting the curiosity mixed with fear in his expression.

“Are we going to make it out of here alive?” Mira's voice was barely a whisper, yet it carried the weight of her dread.

“Yes, of course. I'm here to protect you, and I won't let any harm come to either of you,” I reassured them, trying to infuse my words with conviction I didn't entirely feel.
