Evelyn chuckled wryly. "I had all sorts of fantasies about love back then. I'd considered it the most precious thing in life. I was willing to give anything for it.

"But I never thought that something I valued so much would be nothing but a bargaining chip to him. If that's the case, then there's no point in me being all high and mighty. Having the transaction once is no different from having it countless more times.

"All I want is for my father to be safe and sound."
