Chapter 30

When Evelyn hurried to the hospital, her father was undergoing resuscitation in the emergency room. She mustered up all the energy in her to walk over to the prison guard.

"How's my father?" she asked with a tremble in her voice.

"He's still being resuscitated, and we don't know how things are in there. He attempted suicide and lost quite a lot of blood. But as he's just been through a heart operation, things are quite complicated."

Evelyn stumbled backward and nearly fell to the ground when she heard that.

The prison guard was quick to steady her. "Ms. Jefferson, please don't be worried. A specialist just went in not a while ago. I believe Mr. Jefferson will be fine."

Evelyn tried her best to keep the tears at bay. "How did my father attempt suicide?"

The prison guard hesitated for a moment before he told her, "Mr. Jefferson seemed really down yesterday, and he looked pale too. We thought that perhaps his heart was giving him problems again, so we brought him to the hospital fo
