~ MILA~

Immediately the door opened, I rushed and grabbed Cooper by his shirt.

He was now putting on a shirt while the girl wore a silk gown leaving nothing to the imagination. Her skin was flushed and she was smirking at me.

He loved her dress but I looked like a hippo in mine. The song playing in the background made it worse.

“You bastard, why?? You are cheating on me?? You fuck another woman in our matrimonial bed”, I screamed as I tightened my grip on his shirt, the neckline was tight around his neck and my body was wracked with sobs.

He grabbed my hands forcefully removing them from his shirt and pushed me to the floor. He grabbed his tie and one of his shirts.

He moved towards me swiftly, holding me in place as he tied my hands tightly with the tie. I struggled but I was no match for his strength.

“You’re a fucking rabid dog and you’re going to sit and listen”, he said coldly as he gagged me with his shirt.

I struggled but it was pointless.

“Look at me Mila, why do you think I’ll be tied down with a fat thing like you, Brittany is beautiful, sexy, rich, and can give me a better life”, he shouted coldly.

“She is so much of a woman that you can never be, she has given me a better job and she satisfies my needs, I’m done with you and this useless marriage. You’re going to sign the divorce papers and get the fuck out of this house now”.

I struggled against the bind and gag, my voice muffled and words unheard.

I hated him so much, after everything, tears fell freely from my eyes. It hurt, my heart felt like it had been stabbed again and again.

Divorce? He wanted to divorce me for Brittany. I had been a fool for so long. Cooper had been done for a long time, I was stupid for not seeing it. My mind had told me but my stupid heart denied it, clinging on to a marriage that brought me nothing but pain.

Brittany was grinning widely, “Looking like that is ewww, I wonder what Cooper saw in you, glad he chose better”, she said in a sickly sweet voice.

Fucking bitch, you can have him….

Cooper dragged me down the stairs to the living room. I struggled to keep up with Brittany tailing behind.

He pushed me to the couch and brought out documents from his briefcase.

The bell rang and Brittany opened the door like she was already expecting someone. Two huge muscular men came in, they were putting on security uniforms.

“I’m going to untie you and remove the gag, sign the divorce papers, and get the fuck out, either we do this the easy way or the hard way”, Cooper said coldly and I knew he would make good of the threat.

He removed the gag and I shakily picked up the pen and signed the documents.

I was also done with this sham of a marriage, I had endured so much pain.

“I give you 5 minutes to go up there and pack your things”, he ordered.

I moved quietly, I couldn’t even stop crying. I wiped my face furiously as I entered the defiled room.

I was packing my bags when the muscular men came in and dragged me out with my packed bags. I wasn’t even done.

I was carried down the stairs like I weighed nothing and thrown out. They threw my bags and the remaining things I couldn’t pack on the floor, some hitting my face.

“I’ll burn the rest of your filthy things”, Brittany said looking at me with disgust as she slammed the door and shut it.

I grabbed my sling bag and brought out my phone shakily. It was 11pm.

I ordered a taxi online, shoving my belongings on the ground into my bags as I waited. My eyes darted around to make sure I was safe.

The taxi had arrived fast and I had just been dropped off in front of the hotel.

Walking into the hotel, I headed to the counter.

The hotel lobby was almost deserted save for the couple that was heading to their rooms, too engrossed in eating each other's lips to care about anything.

I tore my eyes away as I felt a pang of jealousy and faced the receptionist.

“Good evening, welcome to Fantasy Hotel, how can I help you ma’am”, she said with a bright smile.

“I’d like a room for tonight, please”, I said clearing my throat, my throat was hoarse.

The door creaked as I opened the room with my key.

The room was sparsely furnished, the basics only. The décor was old but at least the sheets were white, the floor was clean and the place smelled good. The smell of roses was fresh in the air, an indicator that they had cleaned the room not too long ago and sprayed an air freshener.

I sat down on the bed and then the dam broke. I cried, rocking back and forth, my arms wrapped tightly around myself.

I couldn’t think about anything else, I kept seeing flashbacks from earlier. Cooper and Brittany in bed, the divorce, he had hit me, for the first time ever, Cooper laid his hand on me.

I didn’t even have enough money to sue him, I needed to survive first.

My head was aching badly, I felt raw, Cooper was cruel. Emotions flooded every inch of my being, my chest heaved with each sob and my breath caught in irregular sobs.

I didn’t even realize it when I slept off.

I woke up with a banging headache, my throat felt sore and tight.

I checked the hotel alarm clock, it was 6pm already.

I had cried for the most part at night, my mind a constant reminder of what had happened. Flashbacks played again and again making me unable to sleep.

I needed to take a shower. I stripped and went into the bathroom.

I was currently wrapping my short flowery dress around my body. I opened the middle part of my hair and then brushed it. I didn’t want to look like what I’ve been through.

Grabbing my phone beside me, I saw that there were two notifications, one was a missed call from my mom, and the other was a message from First Republic Bank.

I opened the message shocked to see a debit alert.

My heart beat faster, everything was gone, and only 2 dollars was left in the account.

He can’t do this, Cooper couldn’t do this, how would I survive?

When I was working, Cooper had said we should get a joint account, we should do everything together he had said. My salary had been way higher than his. I had agreed and put all my savings into that account and now it was gone.

He must have some sort of explanation.

I picked up my bag and left the hotel hurriedly. I hailed a taxi to the house I had been thrown out of yesterday, my heart was in my mouth as I stepped down from the cab and hurried up the front stairs.

I rang the bell twice and started banging the door furiously.

“Cooper”, I called out trying hard to control my pitch, I didn’t want to attract attention, especially Grace’s attention.

I failed horribly because I saw Grace walking up to me, “ Cooper left with his bags and the housekeeper this morning, I heard the house is up for sale, he’s moved, you weren’t aware? Did you guys fight or something?”

I ignored her last two questions and asked, “Do you know where”.

“No, I don’t, he didn’t even say anything when I said hello, that housekeeper is a total bitch”.

“Thanks”, I said leaving hurriedly ignoring her next words.

“What’s going on”, Grace called out as I left.

I hailed another taxi to Cooper’s office.

*******

Laughter and tears burst out of me as I sat in the taxi prompting the taxi driver to ask if I was okay. My answer was that I was perfectly fine.

I knew I looked mad. I looked just how I felt, I was going crazy.

Cooper had quit three days ago, I had heard from his colleague, Sam that worked late. No one knew his new job.

Sam said Cooper never worked late. All this time, he was with Brittany, it was never work.

A torrent of emotions flooded me, sadness mingled with pain, frustration, and helplessness.

“Where are you headed ma’am”, the taxi driver asked politely.

“Take me to Paradise Club”, I replied.

I had heard about it from Olivia.

I might as well get high, maybe… just maybe the pain might feel better.
