Chad’s pov
I was determined to make things right. Alana was the perfect woman for me. She was beautiful, smart, and a fairly good warrior. Our chemistry was perfect, and I really thought that she would be my mate as she came from a prestigious family. Even if she wasn’t, my heart leaned towards her. For the past year she and I had become the couple everyone looked up to, so leaving her for Maya would be a stupid decision.
I just knew rejecting Maya was the right thing. Maybe that is why we had the choice to turn down our fated ones—perhaps fate was not always correct.
My thoughts got interrupted when I saw Vince Castel, one of the most powerful alphas of our region, approaching us. He led a pack and was the only Alpha without a mate. With haste, I wrapped Alana in my hand and drew her nearer. I wanted to assert that she belonged to me around all unmated wolves.
His expressionless face was fixated on mine as he reached for a handshake.
“Congratulations and happy birthday. I believe your father will soon hand the pack over to you,” he said.
I offered a smile as I accepted his handshake. From his demeanour, I could tell that he had zero interest in her. Good. I did not want a cause for conflict with him.
“I believe so too. I look forward to working with you, Alpha,” I said.
He offered a subtle nod of his head. With a young leader, I hope our packs can prosper. We cannot defeat the sporadic vampire attacks unless we unite as a team.”
I nodded my head. “You are right,” I said as I glanced at Alana. “With my luna beside me, I am sure we can achieve a lot of good things.”
Vince’s countenance remained the same. Perhaps he didn’t agree with me?
“Uh, this might be personal, but why haven’t you chosen a luna yet?” I asked him.
He smirked. “Finding a mate isn’t my priority. When the time is right, I will find her.”
I shrugged my shoulders. “An alpha, in my opinion, would perform best with his luna by his side. Perhaps you can choose one female from this pack. We have a lot of capable she-wolves in Moonshine.”
His smirk remained frozen on his lips as he stared into my eyes. “When the time is right, it will happen.”
We watched him walk away. He was still single and yet one of the most feared alphas. I really ought to try to pick up some tips from him.
“That guy is intimidating,” Alana whispered into my ear.
I leaned towards her. “That’s Alpha Vince of Silverstone. I hope to form a good alliance with them. I do not want to ruin the prestige Dad has worked so hard to build for our pack. We can not go wrong with Vince's support.”
She nodded her head. “Mating with a female from this pack will help. I heard that he is staying here tonight. Maybe he could take interest in one of the she-wolves.”
I smirked. “I like the way you think, but I don’t want him to think that we are trying to force him into a relationship. Mating is a personal preference. We have to be careful.”

The celebrations were going well when I suddenly smelt Maya's scent once more. I wanted to gag. I thought she was banned from the celebrations. In the hopes that she would not be foolish enough to approach the guests, I turned my head to the side and searched for the person I had rejected. My brow furrowed in confusion when I didn’t find her.
To my surprise, the scent intensified as I approached Nathan. With a big smile on his face, he drew me in for a fraternal embrace. I felt as though a bucket of cold water was poured on my chest. Her scent lingered heavily on him.
“Hey, bro! Congrats! Can’t wait for your Alpha ceremony!”
“Alpha ceremony?” I parroted him, partly stunned by what I just discovered.
He laughed. “Hasn’t he told you yet? Your dad is going to hand the pack over as soon as you return from your training for the new alphas. And that’s a matter of a few months, isn’t it? You have completed most of the training here in Moonshine.”
“Yeah… I have.”
I spoke, but my mind was muddled with another thought. He couldn’t have slept with her, could he? How else could he have her scent on him?“Hey, I have to go to the bathroom real quick. I’ll be right back.”
I watched his retreating back, judging him. If I ever found out that he cheated on my sister, I would make his life a living hell, and I was determined to find out the truth.
Exempting myself from the festivities, I strode towards the pantry. She was the daughter of the traitor, and I did not expect anything positive from her. But this was a new low, even for her. I noticed that the door wasn’t closed. I walked in, rolling my eyes, determined to discover evidence of Maya's promiscuity and Nathan's infidelity. If she could have sex with a married man only a few hours after I turned her down, she was nothing but a slut.
However, not a hint of Nathan’s scent, or of sex, lingered in the pantry. I walked outside, still agitated. Perhaps they did the deed in the woods? I mindlinked one of the guards on patrol, ordering them to arrest Maya if they found her roaming around in the woods. I wanted to question her myself.
Hours passed by, and the party ended. Even after the guests went to their rooms, my family and I awaited news from the guards. Yes, I had told my parents about Maya not being in the pantry like she was supposed to, and they weren’t happy about it. I deliberately didn’t tell them about Nathan, because I wanted him to be there when they brought her. The guards finally arrived at the packhouse, carrying her lifeless body in their arms. My jaw dropped. There were clear signs of struggle on her body. Struggle... there were cuts and dried blood on her face, bruises all over her body, and her clothes were torn.
“What happened? Did she resist when you arrested her?” Cheryl asked.
They shook their heads. “No, we found her like this. It seems like someone attacked her.
“Is she dead?”
“She is breathing. Her pulse is strong, but her healing process is rather slow.”
Her slow recovery could be because she was an unshifted wolf. My brows furrowed. Someone attacked her… Nathan?
I looked at him from the corner of my eye and noticed that he was fidgeting on his feet. The creases on my forehead deepened. Why did he look nervous?
I cleared my throat. “The scent of her attacker should still be on her,” I said, while still watching him from my peripheral vision. I was pretty sure he was involved in this when I saw him look at me while his lips trembled.
The guards sniffed her. One of them glanced at Nathan, but I saw that they quickly averted their gaze. They must have been reluctant to share what they had discovered. I approached her, taking a deep breath. Nathan's scent was undoubtedly mingled with hers.
“Your scent is mixed with hers, Nathan. When I spoke with you earlier, I noticed that you smelt a lot like her.”
Cheryl’s eyes widened. I knew that wasn’t what she was anticipating, but I wasn’t one who would hide the truth.
“At first I thought you must have cheated on my sister with her, but after seeing how badly she is beaten up, I feel you have assaulted her. What did you do, Nathan?”
I didn’t know why I said what I did, but the words just slipped from my tongue. In any case, his response said more than words could.
His eyes bulged as he fervently shook his head. “No! How could you say that! I didn’t even touch her! I swear!” He turned towards Cheryl, who had tears in her eyes. “You have to believe me, babe. Why would I cheat on you? She… she came onto me…”
My eyes narrowed. “Why is she barely alive if she came onto you? Do you even hear yourself?”
“Stop! Chad, what are you saying? My Nat will never lay a finger on that... thing!”
My eyes narrowed. Of course, I shouldn’t have expected anything else from my sister. She was blinded by her love for him.
My mother heaved a deep breath. “Take her to the pantry. We will question her when she awakes,” my mom said. Dad faced us when the guards took her away.
“We will not do anything drastic. Let us sleep on this tonight. Maya is a no one. Nathan is the father of my grandchild. Right now, I don’t want to hear a word about this incident. We are tired. Go to sleep.”
Vince’s povI woke up to an agitated wolf. I ignored it, assuming my wolf didn’t like spending the night in another pack. It was the first time I did that ever since I was declared as the Silverstone’s alpha. After freshening up, I went downstairs, assuming that breakfast would have been ready. When I went downstairs, the omegas were rushing around, obeying each of their luna’s stern orders. She was mumbling something about someone not waking up on time. Apparently something wasn’t right.I waited at the base of the staircase, studying the surroundings. Her lips formed a wide smile as soon as she realised I was there. “Alpha Vince! You are up already?” she said.“Yes,” I said, studying the surroundings. “Is everything alright?” “Of course. Everything’s fine. It’s just that breakfast is running a little later than we expected,” she said with a nervous laugh. “This is very embarrassing. I assure you that this isn’t a common occurrence in Moonshine.”“Oh,” I said, glancing at the omegas
Vince’s povI stared at the young Alpha for several minutes. He must have lost his mind to think that she was his. How could she be anyone else’s? Her scent, the tingles, and my wolf confirmed that she belonged to me. I had to summon every ounce of my strength to restrain my wolf from taking over my body and barging at him. Neither I nor my wolf liked him calling her his mate. She was mine and mine alone. We were alphas, and we didn’t share anything—not land, and especially not our soulmate. I narrowed my eyes at him, without giving a care about the others who were by now silent spectators. Even his father didn’t utter a word. Perhaps they were reluctant to say anything, but that wasn’t any of my concern. If he was claiming my mate as his, he would have to challenge me. I wouldn’t hold myself back from killing him if I had to, and believe me, I knew it wouldn’t be much of a fight. Maintaining eye contact with him, I lowered my head to sniff my mate, allowing her wonderful aroma to c
Vince’s povI stared at my father as though he had grown two heads. He couldn’t be serious, could he?“What?” I exclaimed, gawking at him. “No, this cannot be right. And what about her? Doesn’t she want to meet the one destined for her?”He scoffed. “Destined mates aren’t always the perfect choice. For instance, this girl,” his eyes shifted towards my mate. “How can she be a good Luna? You have worked hard for this pack, and now, this pack is one of the strongest in the forest. A strong pack needs a strong Luna. Heck, you deserve the best mate, and in my opinion, Gerret’s daughter is the best choice.”I shook my head. “I am sorry, dad. I cannot accept this offer. This girl is mated to me for a reason and I think our fated mates are the ones meant for us.”He sighed heavily. “Look, Vince. I have heard the bond is magical and all. I know that right now you feel that this girl is the best choice for you. But look at me and your mom. We aren’t mates, and we did just fine. Let me tell you
Vince’s povI couldn’t find peace in my heart without revisiting my mate, so I arrived at the hospital once again. To my dismay, I found out that she still hadn’t regained consciousness. Once she regained consciousness, I hoped she would tell me about the attacker so I could murder him myself. I was convinced that only a fully shifted male could cause such harm to her. “Alpha.” I wasn’t paying attention to the smells in the air when the doctor approached me. I glanced at her and asked. “How is she?” She sighed. “We see improvement, but she is still in a deep sleep. The anaesthetic must have worn off by now…” she trailed off.…but she still isn’t awake.I completed her sentence in my mind as I looked at my sleeping beauty. “What do you think caused all of this?” She smiled. “It is so sweet of you to care so much about her, Alpha. I mean, considering she is a girl you saved from the neighbouring pack.”“Well, she isn’t just some random girl I found. She is my mate,” I told her. Her
Vince’s PovMy lips parted as I brushed my knuckles on her soft cheeks. A sigh escaped my lips as the sparks erupted. She was so young and probably wouldn’t feel them until her eighteenth birthday. I would have to hold myself back until then. Immersed in my thoughts, I caressed her cheeks until the door to the hospital room opened. Anticipating his criticism, I closed my eyes as soon as my father's scent reached my nostrils. Given that Alpha Gerret had proposed his daughter marry me, my father was not pleased that I had found my mate. Yes, the union between Rachel and me will strengthen the alliance between the Silverstone and Golden Crescent packs, but that was a political marriage. Why would I reject my soulmate for a political alliance? Besides, I couldn’t reject her after knowing what she went through. I just couldn’t. “She isn’t awake, huh?” he said. I sucked in a deep breath and faced him, keeping my expression neutral. “She was beaten up really badly. I am glad I found her be
Maya’s povIt took a moment for me to realise that I wasn’t in the pantry. From the sights and smells, I could tell I was in some kind of medical facility. It shocked me. Never had the Willows taken me to the infirmary in the pack house. If I was lucky, one of the omegas would take pity on me and offer some medicine. But of course, they were mindful to do it discreetly. Dumbfounded, I looked around, until my gaze landed on a large man sleeping with his head resting on the mattress. I froze. Why was a strange man sleeping there? Why wasn’t I alone like I always was? Perhaps I breathed too hard, the man grunted before opening his eyes and looking right at me. I thought my soul left my body. Finding a rather masculine man with a man bun sleeping beside me scared me shitless, and it made it ten times worse when he woke up. His heavily tatted arms and buff frame appeared more dangerous when he stood up. I didn’t know what he intended to do, but when he called me pretty, I lost it. I want
Maya’s pov“What?” I asked in disbelief. How could I be his mate? It must be some kind of a mistake. Vince’s eyes returned to the normal piercing blue colour, and his muscles relaxed, indicating his wolf was no longer trying to take over. But I now wanted to know why he said that. Nancy, the beta’s mate, looked at Mark and then at Vince. My gaze was fixated on the big, tatted Alpha, who was now scratching his head. He cleared his throat. We were all waiting for his explanation. “You are my mate, and my wolf wanted to declare his claim on you,” he said. I grimaced and then shook my head. “I am sorry, Alpha Vince. I am pretty sure that is a mistake. I can’t be your mate.”“Why not?” Nancy asked. I sighed. Talking about my personal life wasn’t something I wanted to do, especially since it was such a massive flop. Nonetheless, I swallowed my pride and spoke up. “I was rejected that night. I don’t think fate would pair me with another Alpha within the same week. I mean, I haven’t even
Maya’s povEven after Vince told me that I was staying on the third floor of the pack house, I didn’t believe that they would let me stay in the alpha’s quarters. I kept thinking that perhaps the alpha’s quarters were located elsewhere in the Silverstone pack. When they led me to my new room in the pack house, I was shocked. When compared to the place I slept in Moonshine, the room was luxurious. Well, any place would be so many times better than that, but this was the kind of place I could have only imagined. The large, comfortable bed, a vanity table with several tubs and tubes resting on it, and a massive walk-in closet filled with clothes of various designs. What really caught my eye was the large balcony that allowed the sun’s rays to illuminate the spacious room. I hesitated at the entrance, unsure of what to do. What if it was a joke? I didn’t want to get excited over something that wasn’t meant for me. I mean, it could be Nancy’s room…“Aren’t you going to enter?” Nancy asked
Vince’s povHe didn’t concede, and I sent a mind link to my beta and all the generals that he was removed from power until further notice. Was it easy? Absolutely not. I hated having to send that mind link. But would I do it again for my mate’s sake? Abso-fuckin-lutely yes! It was the right thing to do. He shouldn’t have harmed my mate and the pack’s luna.He protested when he realised that he was no longer allowed in the office, but it had to be done. I could no longer trust him. He would thwart any attempts to find out where my mate was as long as he was able to collaborate closely with the warriors. Pay attention to him. Until we have concrete evidence, we cannot put him in jail. Until I discover evidence against him, he will continue to be treated and respected as the former alpha, but keep an eye on him. I want to see who he contacts, where he goes… everything,” I told my beta as we watched him leave the pack house. “I sure will, Alpha. Do you think he might do something to Jer
Maya’s povAs soon as I opened my eyes, I jerked up. Unfortunately, I was chained to a bed. The chains weren’t silver. That was a relief. I guess Eric didn’t want to torture me. Not yet, at least. It was a wonder why he kept me alive this whole time. Well, it was time to escape before he returned. While tugging at the chains that confined me, I surveyed the niche. There weren’t any windows, and the only door seemed to be locked from outside. I didn’t expect him to leave it unlocked even if I was chained up. He wasn’t reckless. My escape would mean the end for him. The absence of windows made escape difficult. It was one thing to break the chains, but I had to come up with a plan to get out of the confinement.Eleanor stirred in my mind. My heart fluttered with excitement. When I lost her after being shot in the woods, I was so worried. “Eleanor!” My excitement was evident as I called out for her. I was so glad that whatever he injected me with didn’t put my wolf to sleep forever. “G
Vince’s povI slowly opened my eyes. I had to wince a few times before I got used to the light as it filtered through my eyelashes. It did not take me long to realise that I was on a hospital bed with an IV. My forehead wrinkled. Oh, yeah… the arrow. It must have caused a lot of trouble. I looked around, hoping to catch a glimpse of my mate. She wasn’t there. What bothered me was that I wasn’t able to detect a whiff of her scent either. Although my wolf didn’t say a word, I could tell that he was disturbed about her absence. There wasn’t even a tiny hint of her aura in the blocked room. It was almost as though she never stepped inside it. I sighed. I wanted to believe that she was held back at the pack house because of the duties. With me in the hospital, all responsibilities would fall on her shoulders. The door of the hospital bed opened, and my beta walked in. His lips stretched into a broad smile as soon as he saw me. “Alpha! You are awake!” I smiled at him. “Hey, good to see
Chad’s povA white wolf... She was a white wolf. I couldn’t believe I rejected a white wolf. Who would have thought that her wolf, of all wolves, would be white? Ever since I found out that she was one, I regretted my rejection. Alana was fine. She lacked experience in the office but was spectacular in bed. I didn’t mind having her. But a white wolf? Being mated to one was a dream. White wolves were the most special since they were so rare. I heard that the royals were all white, but we only heard stories about them. By the time I started to walk, they were all killed. Few white wolves still lived in the north, but they didn’t have special powers like the royals. Either way, white wolves were considered special. Some elders claim that they are the descendants of the Royal family. And to think that I rejected one…My fingers clenched around the steering wheel as I sped down the deserted road. The headlight of my car illuminated the lonely woods. I was well outside my pack’s territory
Maya’s povI knew I couldn’t trust him. But I didn’t have a good reason to push him out of my life. Especially when my mate was happy about him making an effort. Unfortunately, my mate was too blinded by his respect and love for his father to see what I saw. The best I could do was keep my guard high. I didn’t expect him to find the one behind the arrow. Why would he do that? I bet he was the one who aimed that deadly spear at me. We continued with our daily routines. Early morning workouts, training, and then work in the office. Eric joined us every day. During every training session, he was there, helping my mate and his beta. It irked me at first. Being surrounded by his aura was unnerving, perhaps because I didn’t trust him. I hid my resentment for the sake of my mate. After all, his father’s advice seemed to help my beloved. Eric’s years of experience would benefit our pack. That was another reason I kept silent as long as he was helping out.As the days passed by, I started to
Maya’s povMy eyes widened and my heart picked up its pace. I didn’t realise what I was doing when I raised my hand. It was just a reflex. To my utter surprise, the arrow stopped and dropped at my feet. Shocked, I stared at it for a while. It took some time to register what had happened. “What? An arrow! Guards! Scour the area! Find out who did this!” Vince snarled, shielding me with his body. My gaze was still fixated on the fallen arrow, wondering what just happened. “Did we just stop it?” I asked my wolf. “We did, didn’t we?”My lips pursed together. I was glad that I was faster than Vince. Had I been late even a split second, he would have shielded me with his body, hurting himself. Vince turned towards me, grabbing my hand “Are you okay? You stopped it with your hand! Did it hurt?” he asked.I shook my head, still finding it hard to wrap my head around what just happened. Perhaps from their perspective it appeared as though I deflected the arrow with my bare hand, but the tru
Maya’s povI never thought I’d see a day that I look forward to kicking someone’s ass, but here I was, warming up for the duel against Rachel. I didn’t want to delay it any further. All I wanted was to get over with it. I knew that she wanted to fight to death, but that didn’t scare me. I was determined to make her regret her words. Although I knew she had a good chance at beating me, I wasn’t going to back down. If I lost to her, it would mean that I really didn’t deserve to be his luna. “Shut up. We will not lose,” Eleanor growled in my mind after a long silence. My thoughts must have bothered her.“Can you stop undermining us? I just know we can destroy this little bitch,” she said. I pursed my lips together. “Destroying her isn’t what I have in mind.”“You want to kick her ass and let her be? But she wants to kill you, girl.”A frown wrinkled my forehead. “Yeah, she said that. Will she really go through with that?” “Well, she sounded like she meant it. I am not ready to die yet
Maya’s povI thought life would be perfect after mating and marking Vince. Especially when the pack members accepted me as their luna without any hesitation, despite the old alpha’s disapproval of me. I learnt how to dismiss his judgemental gazes and unfriendly demeanour. I was determined to win his approval and eventually be loved by him. After all, he was my father-in-law, and his approval meant a lot to me. There were times Vince deflected the topic when I talked about doing things he liked, probably because he knew he disliked me. But wouldn’t he at least try to accept me as his son’s mate? Destiny had put us together, after all. I kept my hopes high, hoping to get some sign of approval before the official luna ceremony, but to my disappointment, I got none. The day of the luna ceremony came. Invitees from all around the werewolf community started to arrive at Silverstone pack. Mark and Nancy took charge of everything from preparing the open ground for the ceremony to escorting t
Maya’s povIt wasn’t the first time I walked down the dimly lit dungeon corridors, but this time, a sense of responsibility towards my pack filled my heart. Though not officially announced, the pack members seemed to have accepted me as their luna. The guards, prison workers and the omegas we encountered on our way to the cells bowed their head as a gesture of respect when they saw me. At first I thought they were showing respect to their alpha as Vince was with me the whole time, but even after he walked past them, they showed respect to me. It was overwhelming. However, when we reached where Nancy and Mark were interrogating a rogue they captured from the battle field, my focus turned towards him. He was chained with silver - probably to weaken his wolf so he wouldn’t shift and fight against the guards out of the blue. Regardless, the determination on his face didn’t waver. Our gazes met and his lips curled in a sneer. I raised a brow. He didn’t have a reason to sneer at me. Or per
