CHAPTER 34.

THIRD PERSON'S POV.

The ride back to the hotel was calm yet Amelia felt like it was so unsettling. Alessandro had this look on his face that scared boredom but at the same time, it didn't look like he was bored. Anger perhaps? Amelia was tense regardless. She would catch herself stealing a glance at this man once in a while to see if he had that same fixated expression, and yes, he did.

Alessandro would quickly change his head direction whenever he was about to steal a glance at her but from the corner of his eyes, he could see her turning his way. He was struggling so hard not laying his eyes on her.

They arrived at the hotel with Alessandro leading the way in huge strides while Amelia followed him timidly.

Alessandro ordered room service when they got inside the bedroom—a bottle of wine and dinner.

"Let's eat," Alessandro spoke out for the first time since they left the venue. He took off his shirt and rolled up the sleeves of his white shirt.

"Hmm," Amelia

CHAPTER 35AMELIA'S POVBy the time I woke up the next morning, Mr... Alessandro was nowhere to be found. The curtains were still closed making the room a bit darker even though it was already past seven in the morning. I picked up my phone and decided to reply to the messages that I could not since I arrived. Alessandro's message dropped in after turning on my wifi. "I had to leave this morning with Mike. It was urgent. It might take a while for me to get back so you might as well have fun today. I have surprises for you."Really? I muttered. Just then, the doorbell rang and I stood up to answer it. "Good morning, Miss Amelia. Mr Alessandro requested that we have this sent to you." "Oh, thank you." "You're welcome."I stood at the door to my hotel room, staring down at the envelope in my hands. It was simple, unassuming—cream-colored paper with my name written in neat, elegant handwriting. No sender, no company logo. Just my name.Sliding my finger under the s

CHAPTER 36THIRD PERSON'S POVAlessandro leaned back in his chair. He tapped the edge of his phone against the wood, his mind briefly wandering to Amelia. He hated that he had to leave her in the hotel earlier that morning because of a sudden emergency that he needed to take care of. Her smile had been etched in his thoughts all day, a distraction he couldn't afford, especially now. It'd been a few days and he was dying to see her. The emergency call had been inconvenient but necessary. He glanced at his watch, the ticking second hand reminding him that time was always against him.A sharp knock echoed through the room. "Enter," Alessandro said, his voice cold and commanding. One of his men stepped in, dragging a trembling figure behind him. The man—a middle-tier associate in Alessandro's network—was shoved forward and landed on his knees. Mike stood beside him with a gun pointed at the man's head. Just a simple pull of the trigger would send his brain flying out of his head. Seein

CHAPTER 37AMELIA'S POVThe city lights sparkled like a thousand tiny stars, casting a dreamy glow on the streets as I walked back toward the hotel. The night air was cool against my skin, carrying a faint scent of rain that hadn’t yet fallen. It was quiet and peaceful even until I heard a familiar voice calling my name. "Amelia?”I turned, startled, and found myself staring at Luca. He was leaning casually against his car, a small, knowing smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "What the hell?" I was at a loss for words as I eyed him from head to toe, unable to believe that he was standing right in front of me. "Luca? What are you doing here?” I asked, genuinely surprised. "I could ask you the same thing. What are you doing here? Moreover, you look like you’ve been wandering around aimlessly.”I chuckled nervously. “I guess I lost track of time. Just needed some air.” "Perfect. How about I buy you dinner then we can talk?” he offered, gesturing toward the pas

CHAPTER 38 AMELIA'S POVReturning to work after the trip was supposed to be a regular day, or so I thought. I pushed through the office doors, laptop bag in hand, and immediately felt the shift in the air. The glances. Intense, lingering, almost accusatory. It was as though everyone suddenly found me fascinating.I ignored it at first, heading towards the elevator with my confidence shaking like a bird inside the cold Pacific Ocean. Even the receptionist side at the top floor wasn't excluded from this weird behavior. Yet, the looks persisted. Whispers flitted just out of earshot. I finally settled down at my desk and dived into the morning’s tasks. My fingers hovered over my keyboard as I racked my brain for any clue as to what I might have done. Nothing came to mind.A little before ten, a receptionist from downstairs called. “Miss Amelia, there’s a delivery for you.”A delivery? Again? A mysterious delivery probably? Maybe this would be different. Confused but curious, I took the

I felt Alessandro's eyes on me, his brows furrowed in confusion. “Amelia, are you okay?” he asked, his voice calm but laced with concern.I forced myself to move, muttering a string of apologies. “I’m so sorry, sir. I— I didn’t mean to—” My words fumbled as I arranged the files once more, my fingers trembling as I gathered them. "Amelia.” His tone softened as he stood. “What’s wrong? Did something happen?” “Nothing!” I blurted, too quickly. I straightened up, clutching the files that he wanted me to have to my chest as if they could shield me from the truth that was unraveling in my mind. “I just... I wasn’t paying attention and I was being clumsy. I’m sorry.”I thought he had dropped the investigative questions earlier. His piercing gaze lingered on me, but he didn’t press further. “Alright,” he said after a beat. “The shipment you’ve been coordinating arrived this morning. I need you to finalize the meeting details with the team. You’ll be represen

CHAPTER 40 THIRD PERSON'S POV In the dead of night, the city’s quiet hum was broken by the rapid pounding of footsteps. A man, disheveled and breathless, sprinted through the darkened streets, a gun clutched tightly in his left hand. His heart hammered in his chest as the faint glow of streetlights blurred past him. He was running from something—or someone—and he knew he couldn’t afford to stop.Behind him, a group of men closed the distance, their shadows stretching across the pavement. He could hear their footsteps growing louder, the sound of boots slapping against the concrete, and his panic only increased. He had to keep moving, had to keep running. But he wasn’t fast enough.A hard shove from behind sent him crashing to the ground. His head hit the pavement with a sickening thud, and the gun slipped from his grasp, sliding away into the darkness. The world around him blurred, the faces of his pursuers becoming indistinct. CHAPTER 41THIRD PERSON'S POV Amelia sat up in bed, her eyes wide as she heard a knock at her door. It was late—too late for any visitors. Hesitantly, she stood and padded to the door, wondering who it could be. "Who is it?" "Luca."When she opened it, her breath caught in her throat.Luca stood in the doorway, blood dripping from his nose and mouth, his clothes torn and disheveled. His expression was one of exhaustion and fury, but there was something else there, too—a vulnerability that caught her off guard. “Luca?” Amelia asked, her voice laced with concern and surprise. “What happened? Are you okay?” “I’m fine,” he lied, though the blood smeared across his face contradicted him. He winced, his body swaying slightly as he stepped into her apartment. “I just need a place to crash for the night. I can't go home looking like this.”Amelia stepped aside, letting him enter. “Come on, sit down. I’ll clean you up,” she said gently.Luca sank onto her couch, his head dropping f

CHAPTER 42 THIRD PERSON'S POV Amelia adjusted her blazer, brushing off invisible dust. She glanced at her reflection in the hotel room mirror. The pencil skirt she chose hugged her curves just enough to be professional yet flattering, and the soft silk blouse tucked in gave her an elegant touch. Her light makeup was subtle but enough to enhance her natural beauty. She wasn’t trying to draw attention, but Alessandro’s gaze earlier at breakfast had already made her self-conscious. All of these weren't her idea. [FLASHBACK] "I have to seduce him?" Amelia sounded so shocked after listening to the wonderful idea that Mia said she had. "Yes, you need to know whether or not he is totally into you." "How can I seduce him? I don't...what are you even saying? That's not my aim." "Well, having your boss fall in love with you wasn't part of the aim either." "He isn't in love with me! We are just confusing things for ourselves." Amelia argued back nonstop. Mia nodded and proceeded

Alessandro had sent me to her, and that alone made me wary. The memory of our earlier conversation was still fresh in my mind.[FLASHBACK]Alessandro had walked into my room that morning with his domineering presence. He was dressed in all black, as usual, his shirt unbuttoned at the top, revealing a hint of the tattoo inked onto his skin. "What is it?" I calmly asked him. "I booked a session for you with a therapist,” he had said, his voice measured.I paused and then let out a cold laugh, shaking my head. “A therapist? I can't believe it. You must really think I’m mad.”His jaw tightened, but he didn’t snap at me. “That’s not what I think.” "Then why? Why would you do that if not because you think I appear foolish to you?” I folded my arms, leaning against the pillows. "Amelia, please don't twist my wor

CHAPTER 58.AMELIA'S POVThe sound of the piano playing softly from downstairs echoed through the quiet house. It was Alessandro’s idea to bring it into the room, even though I had refused to touch it for the past few days. Somehow, he figured out that I liked playing piano. It'd been a while since I played one and because I didn't personally have one, I neglected playing. He had arranged it carefully and placed it next to the large window in my bedroom, where the sunlight would filter in during the day.Yeah, I had my very own bedroom now, but it didn't feel private enough because I still had him intruding on my space. I could feel his presence even when he wasn’t in the room with me, his care almost suffocating me, making me more confused about my life. I was still trying to adjust. Adjust to the fact that I was trapped in his world. Trapped in his house and, perhaps more terrifyingly, in his life,e, I was going nowhere anytime soon. I didn’t want to acknowledge how much I noti

CHAPTER 57AMELIA'S POVI existed in silence.Days had passed, or maybe weeks—I couldn’t tell anymore. Time had lost meaning inside this gilded prison Alessandro called his mansion. The only certainty I had was the unbearable weight in my chest, the dull ache of hopelessness pressing against my ribs. I barely spoke. I barely moved.I was alive, but I wasn’t living. That was my situation actually. The first time I woke up in this place, I stared at the high, unfamiliar ceiling for hours, feeling a numbness settle deep within me. I remembered his words; he said he cared about me. I wasn't that sure if he understood what that meant because if he did, I wouldn't still be here. What mattered was that I wasn’t free. The first thing I did the day after was ask for my phone. No one answered me.The second thing I did was ask to leave. That request was denied.I had walked to the door in a daze, the world tilting slightly under my feet, but before I could even grasp the handle, Alessandro’s

CHAPTER 56Amelia’s consciousness stirred, her eyelids felt impossibly heavy for her to move, her body weak and sore as though she had been dragged through hell itself. Darkness blurred the edges of her memory, but sooner than she expected, fragments of the cruelty she had gone through in the hands of Zach started to resurface. She winced, her throat dry and raw, and as her senses slowly returned, she realized she wasn’t alone. The sound of deep, uneven breathing filled the room. She turned her head, her movements sluggish, and saw Alessandro sitting in a chair by the bed. His elbows rested on his knees, his head bowed, and his hands clasped tightly together. His face, etched with exhaustion, was unshaven, and the dark circles beneath his eyes spoke of sleepless nights.Amelia wasn't able to figure out things fully yet. "Where…” Amelia’s voice cracked, barely audible. She cleared her throat and tried again. “Where am I?”Alessandro’s head snapped up, his piercing eyes locking on

His shirt was soaked with her blood, and his breathing was uneven, panic etched on his face. "Help! She’s losing too much blood!" he shouted, his voice echoing through the silent night. Two nurses and a doctor rushed out with a stretcher, immediately taking Amelia from him. "What's her condition?" one of the nurses asked as they hurriedly wheeled her inside. "She was in an accident — a fire accident," Luca said, trying to keep his voice steady. "She got hit on her head, and she’s been unconscious since then."The doctor nodded and gestured for Luca to follow. They moved swiftly, disappearing into the surgery wing. Luca tried to keep up but was stopped by another nurse at the door. "You’ll have to wait here, sir. We’ll update you as soon as we can," she said, her voice firm but kind.Luca sank into a nearby chair, running

CHAPTER 54The fire roared like an unrelenting beast, consuming the building in its entirety. Thick smoke billowed into the night sky, and the acrid smell of burning wood and chemicals stung Alessandro’s nose. He stood outside the blazing structure, his fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white. His heart hammered in his chest, screaming at him to go inside, even as Mike’s strong grip on his shoulder held him back. "Don’t do it, Mr Alessandro,” Mike said firmly, his voice barely audible over the roaring flames. “You’ll die if you go in there!” "She’s in there, Mike!” Alessandro snapped, shrugging off his grip. “I can’t leave her!” "You don’t know that for sure!” Mike countered, his eyes wide with desperation. "The fire is wild, sir. If you go inside, you will die!"The fire was blazing furiously — if Amelia was indeed inside the room, there was no way that she was still going to be alive. She would have been burnt down already. Also, if they didn't leave im

CHAPTER 53Third Person’s POVThe night was oppressive, shrouded in stillness that mirrored Alessandro’s turmoil. He paced back and forth in the room, his fists clenching and unclenching as he replayed every detail they had uncovered so far. The pieces fit together too perfectly. Mike entered quietly, holding a tablet displaying a map of Zach’s property. “We’ve confirmed increased activity around his house. Guards moving in shifts, additional surveillance. If she’s anywhere, it’s there.”Alessandro stopped pacing, his sharp gaze locking on the screen. “Then we’re done waiting.” "Are you sure about this, Boss?” Mike hesitated. “Zach’s not an idiot. He’ll be prepared.” "If you ever ask that question again until we are done with this, Mike, you'll regret it." He threatened Mike and pushed him out of his way. "Ah, ah, ah,” Zach said, setting the tray down and striding toward her. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”Before she could make it through, he grabbed her ankle, yanking her back into the room. Amelia let out a cry, her fingernails clawing at the windowsill as she tried to hold on, but his grip was too strong. She landed hard on the floor, her breath knocked out of her. The rage simmering beneath his skin had grown unbearable these days. Days had passed, and there was still no sign of Amelia. Every avenue explored, every lead followed, had resulted in a dead end. He wanted to be patient, as he had been for a while,, to receive a call from Zac,h, but there was nothing. If he didn't act fast, the psycho could do something outrageous. He couldn’t sit idly anymore. His fingers drummed against his desk as an idea began to form in his mind. "Mike," Alessandro barked.
