CHAPTER 36

THIRD PERSON'S POV

Alessandro leaned back in his chair. He tapped the edge of his phone against the wood, his mind briefly wandering to Amelia. He hated that he had to leave her in the hotel earlier that morning because of a sudden emergency that he needed to take care of.

Her smile had been etched in his thoughts all day, a distraction he couldn't afford, especially now. It'd been a few days and he was dying to see her.

The emergency call had been inconvenient but necessary. He glanced at his watch, the ticking second hand reminding him that time was always against him.

A sharp knock echoed through the room. "Enter," Alessandro said, his voice cold and commanding.

One of his men stepped in, dragging a trembling figure behind him. The man—a middle-tier associate in Alessandro's network—was shoved forward and landed on his knees. Mike stood beside him with a gun pointed at the man's head. Just a simple pull of the trigger would send his brain flying out of his head.

CHAPTER 37AMELIA'S POVThe city lights sparkled like a thousand tiny stars, casting a dreamy glow on the streets as I walked back toward the hotel. The night air was cool against my skin, carrying a faint scent of rain that hadn’t yet fallen. It was quiet and peaceful even until I heard a familiar voice calling my name. "Amelia?”I turned, startled, and found myself staring at Luca. He was leaning casually against his car, a small, knowing smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "What the hell?" I was at a loss for words as I eyed him from head to toe, unable to believe that he was standing right in front of me. "Luca? What are you doing here?” I asked, genuinely surprised. "I could ask you the same thing. What are you doing here? Moreover, you look like you’ve been wandering around aimlessly.”I chuckled nervously. “I guess I lost track of time. Just needed some air.” "Perfect. How about I buy you dinner then we can talk?” he offered, gesturing toward the pas

CHAPTER 38 AMELIA'S POVReturning to work after the trip was supposed to be a regular day, or so I thought. I pushed through the office doors, laptop bag in hand, and immediately felt the shift in the air. The glances. Intense, lingering, almost accusatory. It was as though everyone suddenly found me fascinating.I ignored it at first, heading towards the elevator with my confidence shaking like a bird inside the cold Pacific Ocean. Even the receptionist side at the top floor wasn't excluded from this weird behavior. Yet, the looks persisted. Whispers flitted just out of earshot. I finally settled down at my desk and dived into the morning’s tasks. My fingers hovered over my keyboard as I racked my brain for any clue as to what I might have done. Nothing came to mind.A little before ten, a receptionist from downstairs called. “Miss Amelia, there’s a delivery for you.”A delivery? Again? A mysterious delivery probably? Maybe this would be different. Confused but curious, I took the

I felt Alessandro's eyes on me, his brows furrowed in confusion. “Amelia, are you okay?” he asked, his voice calm but laced with concern.I forced myself to move, muttering a string of apologies. “I’m so sorry, sir. I— I didn’t mean to—” My words fumbled as I arranged the files once more, my fingers trembling as I gathered them. "Amelia.” His tone softened as he stood. “What’s wrong? Did something happen?” “Nothing!” I blurted, too quickly. I straightened up, clutching the files that he wanted me to have to my chest as if they could shield me from the truth that was unraveling in my mind. “I just... I wasn’t paying attention and I was being clumsy. I’m sorry.”I thought he had dropped the investigative questions earlier. His piercing gaze lingered on me, but he didn’t press further. “Alright,” he said after a beat. “The shipment you’ve been coordinating arrived this morning. I need you to finalize the meeting details with the team. You’ll be represen

CHAPTER 40 THIRD PERSON'S POV In the dead of night, the city’s quiet hum was broken by the rapid pounding of footsteps. A man, disheveled and breathless, sprinted through the darkened streets, a gun clutched tightly in his left hand. His heart hammered in his chest as the faint glow of streetlights blurred past him. He was running from something—or someone—and he knew he couldn’t afford to stop.Behind him, a group of men closed the distance, their shadows stretching across the pavement. He could hear their footsteps growing louder, the sound of boots slapping against the concrete, and his panic only increased. He had to keep moving, had to keep running. But he wasn’t fast enough.A hard shove from behind sent him crashing to the ground. His head hit the pavement with a sickening thud, and the gun slipped from his grasp, sliding away into the darkness. The world around him blurred, the faces of his pursuers becoming indistinct. Hesitantly, she stood and padded to the door, wondering who it could be. "Who is it?" "Luca."When she opened it, her breath caught in her throat.Luca stood in the doorway, blood dripping from his nose and mouth, his clothes torn and disheveled. His expression was one of exhaustion and fury, but there was something else there, too—a vulnerability that caught her off guard. “Luca?” Amelia asked, her voice laced with concern and surprise. “What happened? Are you okay?” “I’m fine,” he lied, though the blood smeared across his face contradicted him. He winced, his body swaying slightly as he stepped into her apartment. “I just need a place to crash for the night. I can't go home looking like this.”Amelia stepped aside, letting him enter. “Come on, sit down. I’ll clean you up,” she said gently.Luca sank onto her couch, his head dropping f

CHAPTER 42 THIRD PERSON'S POV Amelia adjusted her blazer, brushing off invisible dust. She glanced at her reflection in the hotel room mirror. The pencil skirt she chose hugged her curves just enough to be professional yet flattering, and the soft silk blouse tucked in gave her an elegant touch. Her light makeup was subtle but enough to enhance her natural beauty. She wasn’t trying to draw attention, but Alessandro’s gaze earlier at breakfast had already made her self-conscious. All of these weren't her idea. [FLASHBACK] "I have to seduce him?" Amelia sounded so shocked after listening to the wonderful idea that Mia said she had. "Yes, you need to know whether or not he is totally into you." "How can I seduce him? I don't...what are you even saying? That's not my aim." "Well, having your boss fall in love with you wasn't part of the aim either." "He isn't in love with me! We are just confusing things for ourselves." Amelia argued back nonstop. Mia nodded and proceeded

Two of his guards supported him, their expressions grim. “Oh my God,” Amelia whispered, rushing to his side. “What happened?”A man wearing a long coat came in from the side. He was holding a briefcase and his face looked serious. “I’m fine,” Alessandro muttered, though his voice was weak. "Fine? Are you for real? You’re bleeding!” she cried. “Just a scratch,” Alessandro said, waving her off, even though he was trying his possible best to stay conscious. “It’s more than a scratch,” Amelia snapped. The doctor interrupted them with his arms. "Ma'am, he is profusely bleeding now, and we can't afford to waste any more minutes. Scold him after he manages to survive," With that already said, Alessandro was pushed away from her. She watched them disappear as she tried to grasp what was happening. She decided to follow them and saw that he

CHAPTER 44. Amelia offered to help change his bandage immediately after getting into the bedroom. "Do you know how to do it?" Alessandro asked her and she frowned with displeasure. However, she decided not to bother much with it as he might not mean it in an insulting way. "My younger sister was quite troublesome when she was little so I was prepared for both her little and big injuries." She purposely removed the fact that she needed it more for herself because of the mistreatment she suffered at home. "Please, take your seat and let me do it." Amelia said as she sat on the edge of the bed, the first aid kit resting on the bedside table. Her hands trembled slightly as she prepared to replace Alessandro's bandage. Alessandro slowly took off his shirt while maintaining eye contact with her for a few seconds before she decided to look away. He then sat shirtless in front of her, his chiseled torso bearing faint scars from whatever secret battles he might have gotten hi

CHAPTER 71 ALESSANDRO'S POV The call had come unexpectedly that morning, and to be honest, I had not been prepared for it. My mind was still foggy from sleep when the phone rang. I had always prided myself on being composed, but the sudden news threw me off balance after answering the call in my sleepy state. The old man was coming to visit. I had not expected him, not today, not at this moment. The last time he had come, it had been a matter of business, a casual check-in, and everything had been civil. But this time, there was something different in the air—something I couldn’t quite place. The man didn’t show up unless he had something important on his mind, and it wasn’t often that he paid me a visit without bringing some sort of heavy conversation with him.For me, he just didn't need to visit my space. I groaned softly, pushing myself out of bed and rubbing my eyes. The day had already started off wrong, and I needed to gather myself quickly. I couldn’t let him see me thin

The atmosphere was warm and comforting but despite the cozy environment, my heart was uneasy.Mia's sigh broke the silence between us, "You’re really going to avoid him?" Mia asked, her brows raised in surprise.I sighed, stirring my drink absentmindedly. "I don’t know what else to do, Mia. Alessandro told me that Luca… might have feelings for me. I think that might be right. When he said that, I had to think more deeply and realized that my ignorance must have made his actions more of a friendly one even though it seems like it isn't. And if that’s true, I don’t want to lead him on or make things awkward."Mia tapped her nails against the table, clearly deep in thought. "Has Luca actually told you he likes you that way?" "No, but… what if Alessandro is right?"She leaned forward, her expression serious. "Then let him be th

CHAPTER 69AMELIA'S POVDays had passed since Luca got released. I was avoiding him because I thought Alessandro might be right. Luca was texting me almost every day, and he was seeking an opportunity for us to meet. I wasn't ready to change the nature of our friendship. The house was quiet when we returned from the company. It was a bit hectic but I managed to pull through. I tried to push the thoughts away as I changed into something more comfortable—an oversized T-shirt and a pair of soft shorts. Sleep seemed impossible, so I stepped out onto the balcony for some fresh air.The night breeze brushed against my skin, cooling my heated thoughts. Below, the city lights stretched endlessly, glowing softly in the darkness.I hugged myself and sighed. "You’re still awake," Alessandro’s deep voice rumbled behind me.I turned to find him standing in the doorway. He had removed his jacket, leaving him in a fitted black dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up. The top buttons were undon

CHAPTER 68AMELIA'S POV The call came early in the morning.I was still in bed, barely awake, when my phone buzzed. Fumbling for it, I answered groggily. "Am I onto Miss Amelia?" The deep voice on the other end was unfamiliar. "Uhm, yes. Who is this please?" I asked him. "I am calling from the station and I will like to inform you based on the request of Mr. Luca that he had been released." The words jolted me fully awake. Throwing the covers off, I sat up straight. "He has?" "Yes, ma'am. He’s at the station now. So you might want to come before he leaves."I didn't hesitate. After getting dressed quickly, I grabbed my purse and rushed out. Alessandro was nowhere to be seen, which was a relief. I wasn't ready to deal with him yet.The drive to the police station felt like it took forever. My heart pounded the whole way, my mind racing with thoughts of what Luca had endured over the past few weeks. More so, I was still yet to believe what Alessandro had told me about

CHAPTER 67 The moment they stepped into the house, Amelia could no longer hold back. The question burned inside her, clawing its way to the surface, and she didn't want to waste any more time as she feared that Alessandro might change his mind. "Now that we are at home. Can you please go ahead and tell me why you have Luca locked up?" she demanded, her voice firm but controlled.Alessandro didn't look surprised. If anything, he seemed to have been expecting the question. He pulled off his blazer, tossing it onto the couch, before walking toward the bar and pouring himself a drink. "Didn't Luca tell you why?" he asked casually, lifting the glass to his lips as he watched her carefully. Amelia crossed her arms. "Not really. He only said you were the one who had him locked up and that he was sure of that. So tell me, is it true?"Alessandro took a slow sip before placing the glass down. He exhaled, then turned to look at her, his expression unreadable. "You must trust him so mu

You had Luca locked up?"Her voice came out sharp, accusing.Alessandro took a slow sip of his drink before setting it down on the table beside him. Then, as if her words carried no weight at all, he leaned back in his chair, watching her. "Hmm." He answered. Something about his tone—casual, unapologetic—made her blood boil.
